I've had other brands and oddly they seem to be faster than this one when it comes to writing data to the drive. There our pauses as it empties cache that I did not see with the other models.
But, a long warranty and performance is decent for normal usage.

This was an upgrade on a gaming machine from a GTX 1050 2 GB. Noticeable improvement in level of detail supported by some games on 1440p gaming monitor. CPU is a Ryzen 5 2nd Gen.
Note this card requires additional power I think it is a 100 watt TDP, which means it requires you have a spare 6 pin connector from the Power Supply Unit (PSU). This forced an upgrade of the PSU.

Bought for my son. This monitor is bright and responsive, works very well with his Nvidia video card. Very clear.
Only negative is he noted it is not as functional with the brightness turned down. It looses some of the shades and details on anything less than bright.

Is the computer a good use for a college student?
You would be better off to buy a machine with 8 GB of RAM (this has 4 GB), so I would recommend spending another $150 if you can afford to, you may want to also look at an Intel Core i3 or i5, or AMD A9 or Ryzen processor.
This comes with Windows 10, this means that the common university supplied Office 365 can run on it. Office will be slow to start, but then fine afterwards. Because of the limited RAM, you will be restricted to one or two tabs open on your browser. Any more and the machine will slow down. Being the father of college/high school students I can say that most likely the browser will be open at all times streaming music/videos along with applications for homework. That will be a pretty big strain on this limited memory, dual core (minimal processing power) device.
ASUS is a good brand, but this is a minimum spec machine (I'm typing from the machine right now). It'll make due, but just minimally.
