The NETGEAR - Universal Wi-Fi Range Extender was everything I needed to get Wi-Fi out to my shop in the garage. Good performance, easy setup for the WPS method I used.
What I DID NOT NEED was the blatant up sell attempt from the Best Buy salesperson. Seems an automatic response now at Best Buy - you pick out the item that you have researched and decide to buy. Then the salesperson immediately tries to up sell to a much more expensive item, without regard to your needs.

is this a different wifi network or does it just increase the signal strength?
Will you be able to hook up your devises to the current wifi network or will you have to select the wifi booster as the wifi network? Will this create another wifi network?

My wifi is in my 1/2 basement will it work to get signal to my detached garage about 50' away
Exactly the same reason I bought my NETGEAR - Universal Wi-Fi Range Extender. I have a workshop in my garage, which is about 75' from my router in the basement. After the initial setup, I located the extender about mid way between the router and my shop. Works fine.
