I bought a 2 Port AV to HDMI Converter - RCA to HDMI for this TV.
We have 2 machines, a VCR and a DVD player. This LG TV has 3 HDMI ports … 2 regular HDMI ports and 1 HDMI ARC ( Audio Return Channel) port. I connected the RCA cables (out) from each machine to the converter. Then the HDMI cable from the converter to the TV HDMI ARC port. Our connections are: 1st HDMI cable to the Comcast box, 2nd HDMI cable to Apple TV and the HDMI ARC cable to the RCA to the HDMI converter. The HDMI ARC is designed to connect an HDMI sound bar or any other HDMI device.
TIP: I didn’t know what HDMI ARC was. I found out that on some TVs the option to use this port with a sound source can be turned off in the audio options within the TV. I haven’t searched out that option yet (we’ve only had the TV for 2 weeks). So with our converter we found pushing the aspect button on the converter allows the sound from the VCR and DVD player to come through.
Our converter alternately controls viewing on either the VCR or DVD player by pushing a button on the box. I found many styles of converters in my search. I bought mine from Amazon. They are similar to the various styles of splitter boxes.
Using the input selection on the TV remote, find whatever HDMI port you connected on your TV to the converter box. Then select which device you want to view. If you have a combined VCR/DVD player you’ll only need a single port RCA to HDMI converter.
The converter we purchased works for viewing our VHS tapes and DVDs. We are very satisfied with the results. Hope this helps.
