Plugged the USB in and it immediately started working. Keep in mind the USB is located/stored where the battery is also located. I initially thought it was missing from the package until I opened up that little compartment and found it. Easy to use. Highly recommend.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Does this work with Mac Air?

If it has a USB type A port, then it should.

It appears that, rather than bluetooth, this mouse uses a plug-in piece. My 9-year-old has an Apple MacBook Pro MR9R2LL/A. I am concerned that the plug in portion may not fit in the MacBook, which I believe is USB C.

The connection is through a USB type A port, not type C. I'd assume MacBooks have the capability to make the connection.

Does this mouse work with an Acer Chromebook?

If your chromebook has a USB type A connection, then yes. Majority of laptops come with one. It shouldn't matter what brand of laptop/monitor you are using as long it has the USB connection.

what is the difference between Bluetooth and Wireless?

Bluetooth does not require a physical component to connect the mouse to the computer. Rather, wireless requires a connection through a physical piece, such as a USB in this case.
