If you only use the camera on a laptop, it's fine. But if it's used on a desktop or some other configuration the cable is too short.
I would recommend this to a friend!

My HP computer has no speaker systme or camera. Does this webcam double as both or do I need to purchase separately?

Both. I have an HP as well. Just plug in to USB and you have both.
