Not a workhorse of a laptop!
The battery barely holds a charge, and the screen is not at all up to what we would consider to be "modern."
Nonetheless, it serves my need well, but it is very light duty.

While new computer cases do not routinely include a slot for CD/DVD player, an external machine sometimes is needed. For some reason my two old ones died, necessitating this purchase. It is more compact than my prior Sony unit with a similar model#, but this one does not have any external display. Works fine and does what I need it to do.

Will this DVD player work with my MacBook Pro?
You could probably plug it into an HDMI adapter and then to your MacBook.
It is not designed for that - it is designed to plug into an old fashioned HDTV with an HDMI or video input.

Does this have Netflix capabilities
No . It only plays physical DVDs - no streaming. It will play the Netflix DVDs that come in the red envelopes, but do they even offer that service any more?

Do I need to buy a sound card for this product?
No - plenty of audio and video on the MB
