-- Easy to hook up with one power cord and one hdmi cord going to the t.v. Plays just fine in Blu Ray. Only mild complaint is the buttons on the top are hard to find to push down. --
I would recommend this to a friend!

Why does it skip while playing a new disc

--

Probably try several discs to see if it's the disc is damaged or the player.

I have Geek Squad- will they come out to install DVD player?

--
I wouldn't bother unless you can't physically reach behind your t.v. and player. There are only two wires used--one is the power cord and the other is the hdmi cord going from the back of the player to the back of the t.v.

Since this dvd player has an HD upconversion feature, is the picture quality as good as blu ray?

--
While this has a 1080 resolution, the bit rate of a blu ray is higher and better reception. Plus, many non-blu ray players will not be able to read a blu ray disc.

Can this player play 4k dvds?

--

I believe this player only goes up to 1080, so no.

I want to buy a DVD player. But do you have one that doesn't need those sound wires.i don't have any more port connections. Those color wires are being used all ready.

--

If you have hdmi, then that's all you need to go from player to t.v. Also, you can get junction plugs that will let you split the signal to several outlets.

can this dvd player be positioned vertical

--

Never tried that, but there isn't anything holding the disc down on the player tray other than gravity. So the disc would probably fall off and screw up your player.

I bought this unit but watching a wide screen movie, it comes out compressed on the screen with borders only on both sides. Normally for a wide screen movie there are borders on all 4 sides. I don't see anything on the remote to fix this.

--
Not sure that you can make that adjustment on the player. You may need to go to the t.v. adjustments on the screen.

I just bought a Sony CD/DVD Player Model #DVP-SR510H. It came with the AV cable but no HDMI cable was included. I hooked it up with just the AV cable but there’s no sound. Do I have to also use the HDMI cable to get sound? If not, why no sound?

--

You will probably need to get an hdmi cable to get both video and audio to the t.v. Also, be sure your t.v. has the right input source displayed on the screen which might be called "satellite" on the t.v. rather than "hdmi 1 (or 2)" Note too that your t.v. female connections might just be component "out" and not "in".
