Having seven programmable buttons is a huge benefit for both regular computing tasks and gaming. It has a solid feel and excellent battery life. Absolutely no complaints.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Can the middle scroll button also be pushed downward (to select an programmable option)? I know it can be moved left or right (to be programmed to select an option.)

Yes it can. I use it to close programs.
