This replaced the superdrive for me on my new IMAC since apple decided to go completely to the cloud, which I won't. So I have an extensive cd collection which I can play... also I can transfer the rest of my older video collections and home movies to dvds

Replaced my 2009 macbook pro with this- I love the huge screeen and the 1tb of storage since I hate the cloud. New but not the newest- so it's a great value---- minor complaint about the wireless mouse; you can't use it while it recharges

I have DVDs that have been burned on my computer They wlil not play on any standard player. I want a unit that will play discs burned from a computer.
I would suggest that you check and adjust the format of the discs- then double check against what any machine will do. Also I'm not sure anymore but if you are trying to burn copyright material in a "work-around" you might find that a little hard from even a top line machine- also you might find it easier to send the signal to your a/v system since you have discs that will play on your computer-

no to blu-ray according to info I got, but I don't have any blu-ray so I can't try a disc for you I bought it as a inexpensive cd player for a subsystem I use
yes but it depends on your tv inputs you can do it by standard phono plugs (yellow video and r/l audio)- by co-ax cable - or video component cables and audio as above==== but no hdmi outpputs

Can I use this in my car?
I presume you want to play cd's in your car stereo. If you have an aux input- yes. That will be through a usb input (see your car manual if you're not sure.... then plug it any and use the aux input setting. Mind you this is not a car rated unit that I can tell, so bumps or vibrations will be an issue... I'm sure your bet buy rep can guide you to a unit that will be better suited if that matters, but it will cost more. But place it on a pillow or something padded and it might work for you. (and if it doesn't it makes a good "hard" back-up for your computers.

can I transfer my CDs to my playlist on my computer
If they are not commercially blocked, yes----I often dupe cds to use in my car so I don't lose the initial investment with a scratch from mishandling it (honest, only when I'm parked) So a maybe... keep it in mind that it is illegal to make copies of copyright material for other than personal use as listed above. As a former musician, I am sensitive to work being pirated.

Can you record from stereo receiver or smart phone?
I would say not... but if you are trying to record your albums to cd/dvd format, you can go through your computer.... it comes with a management disc for pc's but I use a mac so I don't know what you are doing or need... if you are recording lps DAK has a software bundle that will work will on your computer (that are other downloads for macs) and allow you to record and then burn a disc... which is what I did for my collection of vinyl (and a few vhs format tapes- not worth the trouble if the tape is available on dvd or blu-ray)

Can you burn CDs and DVDs with this? Also will it work with a chrome book
I can answer part of your questions. It is designed to read and write most cd and dvd formats.... I'm a mac user so I don't know if it will work with your crome book... You would need a usb port and if it has that there is a good chance it will work for you.. I bought mine precisely for the reason that I like "hard" back-ups and macs don't come with built-in disc drives anymore. The unit comes with a disc of software for pc style unit management.....I find that this unit is a great value for the money, so if you have a usb input- go for it!

Can you hook up a HP printer to this computer?
Ours is hooked up via blue tooth and is easy to do- I am sure that you could hardwire it, but is easier to do wireless. Go to sys pref and select printers- you should be guided from there- make sure the printer is on and connected to your router by any method you wish.
