While this is half the size (in TB) as the excellent 8TB units, if the price is right then it's a good buy. While there are 4TB true portable units that get power through the USB3 cable, I'd steer clear of them; better to have power from a wall wart (which can be replaced if necessary without a problem). The 2.5" 4TB units aren't quite a mature enough technology yet. This 3.5", however, certainly is.
As I was using this on a Mac, it was a simple matter to use Disk Utility to erase the drive as HFS+/GUID (in place of the NTFS format it shipped with for Windows). That's right; you don't need a specific unit for Mac use. Just format it properly and you're good to go.

This SSD used to cost a bunch more but, lately, SSD prices are quite reasonable so there's really no excuse for not upgrading your computer with one of these (or other quality brands).
I've never seen a failure on this brand/model of SSD. The only place where it should not be used is on an old Mac with the Nvidia chipset as that controller (SATA2) sees this SATA3 SSD as SATA1 so, even though it's faster than a spinning hard drive, it's a waste of money. Samsung SATA3 SSDs work as expected (at SATA2 speed) in such Macs.

PNY introduced the CS900 as a lower cost version of this CS1311. It's very difficult to find the CS1311 now (at a reasonable price). Unfortunately, the CS900 isn't the same quality as the CS1311; I've seen some random failures whereas I've never seen a CS1311 fail.
Of course, you should back up your stuff regardless of your main drive's quality. Not backing up is just plain stupid. As Gump says: Stupid is as stupid does.

The CS900 is the "replacement" for this CS1311 but, frankly, the CS900 is not the same quality and I've seen some failures of the CS900 while never seeing a failure of the CS1311. If you can even find it, the price is 40% more then the CS900. Too bad.

There's really nothing to distinguish this SSD from the pack; it's not the fastest but it's certainly fast enough if you're not installing it into a 4GHz Core i7 with 16GB of RAM; I'd probably use a Samsung 860 EVO there (or an M2 nVME if such a slot was available).
Regardless, if your Mac or PC is using a spinning hard drive and you can open up the computer to get at it and if it normally uses a 2.5" drive, then this WD Blue will speed up the machine dramatically. Worked great and no glitches at all.

Decent speed and quality even with cheap paper; use inkjet paper or photo paper for best results. Do understand that color inkjet printers need to be used fairly often (every couple of days) in order not to become clogged. You don't need to to print many pages; one page with enough color (a few sq. inches per color) to keep the jets from clogging. Note that this advice doesn't just apply to Epsons; Brother, HP, you name it.

Once you remove the USB power (from a Mac, let's say), the drive will power down even if left connected to the wall-wart. That works nicely but if you have this connected through a powered USB3 hub, you'll have to pull either the data or power cable in order to let it power down. I can't really take off a star for this as, in all other respects, it's working fine.

Swapping out the two 2GB RAM modules for these two 8GB modules was a five minute job and makes my Mac run much faster with multiple apps running. Best upgrade you can do. (Then do the SSD upgrade!).

Nice machine. No reliability issues that I've experienced. The 2TB HD might be a nice come-on, but you'll get much better performance if you swap it out for an SSD (and put the 2TB into a USB3 external case for other data). Otherwise, it's fine and svelte.

Can this device be used between a pc and a mac at the same time?
If all you wish to do is have a drive that both the Mac and the PC may both read from and write to, then format the drive as FAT32 (if your file sizes will be smaller than 4GB). Some restrictions in file naming may also happen - don't remember exactly what they are at this moment). Otherwise use ExFAT and 4GB+ and long filenames are supported. Do not use HFS+ or APFS (Apple file systems) nor should you use NTFS as Macs can read but can't write to it.

SanDisk (and all the drive mfr's) periodically update their products. Whatever changes are made are designed to improve performance and/or reliability. To delve into the specifics of the changes is to get lost in the weeds. Just make sure you backup everything and register your warranty.

Purchased this unit a year ago. Seems to work fine, but greatly limits the speed to devices connected to it. I understand that this is normal for extenders, but are they all created equal? Are there other extenders that will pass a higher speed through?

Can I plug this out in the garage and still get reception from the house
Generally speaking, yes. Remember that the extender will only provide as good a signal as -it- receives so check with your laptop at various distances from the router (wifi access point) toward the garage. If the laptop loses signal, that's too far away to plug in the extender. You might try the half-way point (between the router and the garage) and, if you get a good signal there, plug in the extender there. That will replicate essentially the same strength signal from that point.

No; not directly from the camera. You may download photos from eMails you receive or sharing sites (Google Drive, etc.) but the storage on this device is limited so you're better off using an online photo site (Google Photos, Shutterfly) and the appropriate app for that site to view your photos as you will fill this quite quickly.

No; this is only for connecting a newer Mac with a MagSafe2 port to an older power brick (with a MagSafe tip). Do note that the latest MacBooks/Pros use a USBC power port so this adapter will not work for you in this case. The MacBook Air is still (as I write this) using a MagSafe2 power port.
