Great trimmer with lots of uses

I've used quite a few different beard trimmers over the years, but never one with as many attachments/uses as this.
The trimmer itself is waterproof which means you can use it in the shower. This is key for me, as I simply don't have time in the morning to do a separate shaving pass outside the shower.
The motor is very powerful and makes short work of my various hairs.
I've never actually owned a nose/ear hair trimmer before so I don't know how this one compares to others out there. But, overall, it's a fantastic addition to an already capable set of tools.
The only real issues I have with this product are fairly small.
First, you can't use it while it's plugged in. I suppose this makes sense as it's intended to be used in the shower. But, I can also foresee a case where you NEED to shave outside the shower, and you've let the battery die. The quick charge time of an hour is nice, but it won't help in that case.
Second, the combs that attach to the motor to keep the blades at a distance require some practice to get proficient with them. The first time I tried to use the beard comb, I actually took off a good chunk of my beard and had to trim down to a goatee to salvage things.
Finally, the shaver head simply isn't a match for a good old-fashioned razor. So, be prepared to keep your old razor at hand for the finishing touches. (I've never gotten a satisfactory shave from a motorized razor, so, maybe that's just me.)
Recommended, especially if you are looking to replace an older trimmer.

Handy little thing

My Improv Troupe puts on shows where we need pre-show music, and I'm the one that usually has to run it. Depending on the venue, I may or may not have easy access to the sound system. And, it's almost always difficult to actually be on stage and shut off the music after the show starts.
So, I got this little guy to allow me to pipe our pre-show music to a venue's sound system from my iPod touch. This not only lets me roam around the venue pre-show and change the music on the fly, it also lets me turn the music OFF when I'm finally on stage and the show is starting.
The only reason I'm giving it 4 Stars rather than 5 is that it can be difficult to connect to the iPod touch. Usually, I have to "disconnect" it completely in the iPod's settings and then reconnect it as if it was for the first time. Annoying, but not a deal-breaker.

Why didn't I do this sooner?

So, I recently upgraded my Airport Extreme router to the beastly (and fabulous) Linksys EA9500. This new router gave me better coverage over my entire house, and let me use the internet in places that I hadn't been able to before.
But, the speed in some of those places was a little lacking. For example, I could now stream video to the old iMac at the far end of the house, but it was still a little choppy.
So, I decided to finally install a Range Extender to see if it could help things some.
Boy howdy! Not only could I finally correctly stream video to that old iMac, EVERYTHING on the top floor of my house became faster.
In most spots, my speeds actually DOUBLED from what they were with just the Router. (I live in a place where we have 100mb service available on the cheap. So, I literally went from 35mb to 70mb over WiFi all over the top floor of my house. Not too shabby!)
The only real drawback to this device is that it has no "User Interface" to speak of, so connecting it to your router can be a bit of trial and error. But once you've got it connected, it's well worth the effort!
Recommended.

Your household is busy streaming media, working online, and playing games every day. This Linksys Wi-Fi Router will expand your network coverage, send signals directly to your devices, and deliver a lag-free connection, even when you’re all online at the same time.

A BEAST of a Router
on May 19, 2016

My house has always been a bit "iffy" when it comes to WiFi coverage. "The Internet" comes in via a cable in the basement, and is only accessible via a small closet that's full of signal-blocking metal ductwork.
So, for years, I've used a combination of multiple WiFi access points to cover the house, some upstairs, some downstairs. But, I've always wanted a single router that I could just plug in at the closet and use to cover the house.
For the most part, this bad boy does the trick. With it's 8(!) antennas and beam-forming tech, it definitely has the ability to cover my entire house and service all the devices I've got. There is still some video playback lag on the old iMac at the far end of the house, but the fact that it's reaching it at all is impressive. With my previous router (an Airport Extreme) the internet was basically unusable on that computer.
I would imagine that, if I spend some time actually fiddling with the antennas, I should be able to fix that particular issue and get the speed I need out of the old iMac, but, for now, just being able to use it at all is a big win.
It's also nice that you can control it from your smartphone, though I haven't actually tried that yet. Once I got it set up, I really haven't needed to touch it at all.
So, why only 4 stars? Well, it's a little pricey. And, compared to the Airport Extreme, it's a bit of a chore to configure. On the other hand, it's got a ton more configuration options than the Airport Extreme, and you can fine tune the thing to fit your particular household. For example, if you have an Apple TV, or other streaming device, you can set that to get priority treatment when it comes to the traffic on your network.
Oh, and this thing is HUGE. One thing I really like about the Airport Extreme is it's very small footprint. (Handy if you have to put it in a closet.) The footprint on this is easily 3x as big as the Airport Extreme and finding a spot for it in the closet was a bit of a chore. It's also very, very heavy. But, there's a lot of hardware packed into this thing, so I guess that's to be expected.
Honestly, at the price Linksys is asking for this, it might be better suited for a Small Business with a lot of floor space to cover. But, if your house is like mine and you need something to really punch through the walls, this could well be worth the money to you.

I had to repurpose a Mac Mini into a Test Server a couple of weeks ago, but I didn't want to lose the contents of the old Mini drive. So, the old drive comes out of the Mini and into this great little enclosure. The speed is sufficient for what my needs (occasionally pulling old files as I need them) and the price is great.

Smart phones are annoying. On the one hand, manufacturers go all out to design great looking devices. On the other, they are super-expensive and more fragile than any of us would like.
So, I'm always on the lookout for a case that both shows off the design of the device, AND provides an adequate amount of protection.
In the past, I've had great success with simple "bumpers," that just wrap the edge of the device. But, I wasn't able to find a simple bumper for my new 6S Plus.
So, I was very happy to find this Ballistic brand case. It's basically a bumper with a backplate and thick, raised corners. The thickness of the corners protect agains the worst-case, "dropped on a corner" event and the raised corners help protect against the less-likely "dropped flat on the ground onto a small rock" event.
The backplate itself also provides an extra layer of protection and the color sort of matches the underlying color of my phone ("space gray"), so it's a win-win.
Best of all the whole thing is very thin and is very "grip-able". So it still fits in my tripod mount and I never worry about it slipping out of my hand.
Lots of colors to choose from with this brand. Definitely worth your consideration.

Another solid Insignia Product

When I bought my new Acer S200HQL monitor to go with my new MacBook Air, there was one thing I wasn't sure of: Did it come with a VGA cable? The monitor box said nothing about it so I wasn't sure. (Turns out it DOES come with a VGA cable.)
So, on my way out of the store, I tried to come up with the best/cheapest connection scheme I could. I prefer using DVI over VGA whenever possible, and it just so happened that there was an "open box" DVI connector on sale for about $15. At that price, the connector and a new DVI cable (this one) were about the same price as just a VGA connector all by itself!
So, I got the connector and this cable, and they've been working flawlessly since the first time I plugged them in.

I needed a way to hook my new Acer S200HQL monitor to my new MacBook Air, and this adaptor just happened to be available in the "open box" section of Best Buy for about $15.
That's the thing about adaptors like this: They either work, or they don't. The only reasons to return them are:
* It's straight-up broken when you get it home (in which case it won't end up on the "open box" shelf), so you have to return it.
* You bought the wrong one. (i.e. You needed a VGA adaptor, and you got DVI instead.)
Knowing this, I figured that there couldn't be anything wrong with the adaptor, even at the open box price.
And, as expected, it worked (and continues to work) flawlessly from the moment I hooked it up. Even at full price, this would be a great purchase. At the open box price it was a steal!

Great little monitor

I recently moved my office out of my home and back into a "real" space in town, but, I still needed the ability to work from home in the case of an emergency. So, along with a new laptop (MacBook Air), I needed an external monitor that wouldn't take up too much space. This model happened to be on sale for around $90, so I picked one up and brought it home.
For the price, it's an excellent monitor. No speakers or fancy things like and HDMI input, but the VGA and DVI inputs should cover the needs of 90% of users.
I'm not a gamer, I use this only for coding, so I can't speak to response times or frame-rates, but, for coding and the occasional web browsing, this is a fantastic monitor at a great price.

I bought this for a very specific reason: To set up a subnet that only my daughter would use. Why? So when she needed to concentrate on homework or chores, I could simply unplug it, thus removing her internet access until the necessary tasks are completed.
I wish there was a mobile app for more fine-grained control of the device, but, in this case, simply unplugging it from the wall does the trick for me.

Can I put an SSD in this unit.

Can I put an ssd in this unit or does it only take hard drives only?
You should be able to put any 2.5" Serial ATA device into this. But, if you do put an SSD into it, you are restricting the speed at which the drive can get data to the computer. USB 3 is fast, but not as fast as an SSD plugged directly into the Serial ATA bus of your computer.
