I purchased Google Home after watching the Google roll out for it.
The Amazon Alexa is a little more advanced right now but expect that to change very fast.
Alexa is tied to Bing for its search engine which will limit its ability compared to Googles search engine.
I have automated my whole house using Google home, Lights, TV, Sound system all run by voice control.
Great choice!

Yes, the verizon phone is unlocked so you can use it with Sprint.
I have Sprint so this is what I did.
You have a choice when starting the phone to load the verizon bloatware, which is only like 3 programs. You can decline to install them.
Works great, no bloatware!
