can you hook this up to a cable box
Yes. It supports HDMI cable attachmet from the cable box into the projector.

I would like to stream youtube video from my laptop to a screen. Would I be able to do this through this unit? Or, is there some other type of device you would recommend?
Yes. I bought an HDMI to HDMI cable cord to connect to my laptop.
