It's good with surprising video quality
on March 18, 2024

This is definitely a webcam worthy to invest in. It starts from a quick setup to instant gratification as you see how clear your captured video looks. Their software cuts out on a lot of noise, and even in lower light your image will look amazingly crisp.
Starting with the hardware itself, it is a nice design that incorporates a lot of features. Preferably, they want you to use the provided tape to hard mount it to your monitor. That way, you are able to easily detach it from the magnetic base to do any sort of camera movement you'd like. For example, if you need to show stuff around your desk, or just get a closer look at something you are able to do so easily. There is also a physical lid on the camera to give you peace of mind, but during operation there are also indicator lights when either the camera or mic is recording. Overall, no complaints on the hardware other than maybe the cord that it comes with is a little stiff.
Moving on to the software and camera, this is where things get extremely configurable. To begin, the field of view is incredible. Because of this, you are able to use the software to really crop and zoom to exactly where you want. There is also exposure levels to and color temperature to adjust to get the perfect image. It is kind of amazing the dynamic range that is displayed in the videos. I am able to differentiate between shades of black objects on a black table, something I was never able to do with my previous webcam. I would have also liked to see an AI setting to configure how much is being done. Currently there are no ways to even turn off the AI assisted image. The included mic is not the best, but I would still rate it higher than most PC laptop mics. It does not beat a MacBook mic by any means.
At the end of the day, I am completely satisfied with this webcam. I can confidently say that during conference calls, I seemingly have the best video quality. It does make me feel more conscience of minor details that used to get lost in the pixels, so that is something to keep in mind.
I would recommend this to a friend!

It's good, but know what you are getting in to
on March 11, 2024

This is an incredible machine and Asus has done an excellent job bringing this product to market. Initial impressions right after unboxing are that this will be a quality laptop, on par with MacBooks. The feel of the case, the responsiveness of the keys, and the sharpness of the display all satisfy the reason to buy this. However, it is the lasting effect that defines a product, and there are a few considerations to be made before pulling the trigger.
Before we jump into the hardware, let's talk about the laptop itself. It is incredible how slim it is and yet still be able to house such powerful hardware. The design is essentially like a MacBook, and it's all aluminum chassis makes it super lightweight and rigid at the same time. There is no flex when typing nor will your arms get sore since the edges have been rounded off. Once again, the keys feel very responsive and bounces back with a lot of force. As far as I am concerned, this is the best laptop keyboard I have used. FN key choices are, well, not the best in my opinion. Why do we need a snipping key when there is already a windows default hotkey for it? At least you have four customizable buttons at the top so not a real big loss. I/O ports are fantastic, they give you everything you need. I am tired of having only usb-c ports and carrying dongles everywhere. Another nice to have is you can still charge through the usb-c, just don't expect to have full charging as with the adapter. The screen gets extremely bright and is especially useful for editing photos. Speakers have full sound and can be fine tuned through the Dolby Atmos app. Overall, there is not really anything bad to say, it's a joy to use when either gaming or working.
That being said, the hardware seems to be a mismatch for this laptop. There are many complaints about fan noise and it holds true. Even on silent mode, the fan still kicks in a little. If you are bothered by fan noise in the slightest, this is not the laptop for you. The 4090, an incredible GPU, even after having it's voltage cut to fit this laptop it can still perform. The 185H processor, on paper looks like it can do it all. What is noticeable is this laptop will thermal throttle all the time. Any application that uses CPU and GPU together, you can basically say goodbye to your CPU. It seems all the power is given priority to the GPU and the CPU will dip below 40 watts. That being said, sometimes it feels as if the CPU just hasn't been configured correctly. I have tested trying to give the GPU little power and CPU more power, and yet it still drops below 40 watts when gaming. On the silent profile, it is wildly inconsistent where the speed will drop to 300 Mhz, making it impossible to game. Now that does not mean this laptop cannot game; it will still hand down beat the 4080 variant every time. But you may notice your frames dip every now and then because of the CPU.
To wrap this up, I have mixed feelings about the laptop. If bought specifically for gaming on the go, this is a disappointment when the 4080 variant is a much better value. However for specific use cases where the 4090 is utilized more effectively, it is very nicely packaged in a slim profile. You can argue that this is the best you can get for the form it's in, and the form is nearly flawless.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Well made portable fan
on February 20, 2024
Posted by: Leonardo
There are many different types of fans on the market, to the point that you can find one that will fit your niche needs. This may be the exact fan you are looking for, if you are someone looking for a portable fan, or a near silent one, or one with a more focused breeze than spread out. While this fan may not be for everyone, it does a good job in many categories.
To start, the closest stationary alternative is a pedestal fan. It can be extremely quiet while still moving air and almost 10 feet away in a room. This is perfect for those that need the silence but need a breeze. Where this excels over a pedestal fan is its ability to carry the breeze at one direction. Because of it's shape and housing, the area of effect is smaller. This is both a good and bad. You get more air movement when in it's path and it feels great. However if you move a lot like say working around a table then it is much less effective. More than anything, I found the portability to be its best perk. being able to carry this out into the garage to do some work, and then bring it back inside to the exercise room, and then back outside to relax in the garden is extremely convenient. While not the most portable for road trips since it does have an awkward shape when out, it can still work if you want to take this camping for example. The unit comes with a wireless remote control, which sticks to the back with a magnet. It is pretty strong so you do not have to worry about it falling off during transport. The mist attachment is very niche though. It does lower the temperature by quite a bit, but you also get more wet. For the price it is at, it is a little disappointing it does not have a sleep function. That is something I find extremely useful before going to bed and nearly every fan I've owned has this function.
Overall, I am quite satisfied with this product and can see many uses for it in the future and upcoming summer months. As with all things, there are always weak points for reliability and for this product I am most worried about the battery. The fan does not use a lot of power so it's not a huge concern, but one does wonder how smart the program is to maintain a state of charge that does not drain the battery for being plugged in all the time.

Excellent Product, One of a Kind
on December 29, 2023

For those that want to smoke their meats indoors, with results similar to an outdoor smoker, this is a very unique product on the market at the moment. In fact, there is nothing like this elsewhere. What started as a kick starter product from First Build, it went through multiple iterations and as a result we have something that shows off all the hard work.
To begin, this was built from barbeque enthusiasts and it shows. For an appliance to be useful indoors, it should be easy to clean. All the interior parts are removable and the inside can be cleaned easily with soap and water. Most of the mess from cooking is contained in the drip tray, so you may not have to do a full clean as often as you think. As for the cooking process, it is extremely easy. As with any new grill, it will take a few tries to figure out how to best smoke your food. Operating the machine itself is simple - just set your target temperature or time, smoke levels, add your pellets and water, and you are good to go. After trying this on some ribs and salmon, you can really taste the smokey flavor in the meats. However, keep in mind that it takes about 20 minutes for the smoke to prepare before you can see any smoke inside, so quicker foods will need to take that into account. The biggest downside so far is that once the smoke starts, you shouldn't open the door until you clear the smoke, which takes 10 minutes. This makes it a little harder to gauge your meats early on as you get used to the smoker. During cooking, there really is no smoke leaking to the outside. At most, you will smell a little burning from the pellets and of course, the food itself. It is a little loud though, If you own an air fryer it would be about as loud as those. I would not be able to watch television in the same room as the smoker.
While the product itself is amazing, the mobile app could use some more work. I expected to be able to control more since this has a smart app, but at best it is a real time monitor for temp/time and notifying you when it's ready/preheated/etc. It would have been nice to have more information like a timeline of the meat temperature. Also, there is no way to time when to turn the smoke off, you will have to do that manually or gauge how many pellets to use and have it run out. Since this is all software, it's possible it can be added in a future update, but currently it is holding back a lot of unlocked potential. Aside from that, the only unknown is how the smoker is being filtered, and whether that will last or not. There is nothing to replace as far as I can tell.
Overall, this is a successful product and you will find many videos from First Build showcasing this smoker on their channel. This bodes well for the future of the product, and only time will tell if it can continue to work well into the future. If you want to smoke meats indoors, this is the best alternative to an outdoor smoker. Whether you are a beginner or a pro, you won't be disappointed in giving this a try.

The Ridge is a minimalist, RFID blocking wallet. The main cardholder uses elastic to expand to hold up to 12 IDs and credit cards. The typical leather bifold gets packed with faded receipts and unnecessary cards, resembling something more like a suitcase than a wallet. The Ridge is minimalist without being limiting. It’s about carrying less but always having what you need.

Go Minimalist With This Wallet
on November 29, 2023
Posted by: Leonardo
If you are tired of carrying around a bulky wallet, this Ridge Wallet can by the lifestyle change you need. At half the thickness of a traditional wallet, it puts less strain on your back pocket and eventually granting you more comfort in everyday movement and sitting.
Starting off with the build quality, it is only metal on the outer cover plates. The inner plates feel like acrylic, but hard enough to not be scratched by fingernails or credit cards. The outer metal plates are held in with 7 torx screws, and you can open it with an included screwdriver. It seems the only functional purpose of this is to replace the elastic strap if needed in the future. As for the functionality of the wallet, all of your items (cash, credit cards, etc.) are relying on the elastic strap to keep it in place. I cannot speak to the longevity of the strap, as with all things under tension it will have wear and tear the more you use it. The biggest concern is the strap losing strength and you accidentally lose items because of it, but hopefully you will notice long before that can start happening. Brand new, however, it holds the cards and cash very securely and takes quite a bit of force to expand the gap between the plates.
The wallet itself can hold quite a few cards - I was able to fit 9 cards in with a problem. However, know that the more you put in, the harder it is to find the card you need. Personally, I find the sweet spot to be around 5 cards, which gives you enough space for the everyday essentials. Getting used to this wallet was very easy after you let go of needing to carry unnecessary items in your wallet all the time. Removing cards to use can be done without much hassle. Even if not for everyday use, I see this as a huge convenience for travel where you only need the essentials.

While I was able to make this work for me, it is not for everyone. If you need to bring anything that does not fit the size of a credit card, this will not work for you. If you have multiple credit cards (for different rewards/stores), this will be more inconvenient. There are still uses for a traditional wallet, but if you don't carry that much anyways then this is a great product to try out.

Worth it for a beginner or lightweight drone
on October 14, 2023
Posted by: Leonardo
For those looking to get into the drone scene without breaking the bank, but also not have a frustrating time, then this may be the package to get. The DJI Mini 2 SE is a great entry point with its ease of use and lower price point. The ability to carry the drone with controller in a small compact bag gives it a lot of potential for hikers going long distances.
Starting off with the drone itself, it is extremely compact. When folded up, it is smaller than my hand and weighs less than a pound. The way it folds up allows you to safely carry it around without any worries about breaking any of the components. This package comes with 6 pairs of spare blades, and swapping them is easy enough with the included screwdriver. Overall, it's a good package and no complaints here. Moving on to the controller, it is a decent size and feels good in the hands to operate. Like the drone, it stores nicely with the joysticks stowed away as part of the controller itself. The phone holder doubles as an antennae, and holds any smartphone very securely. If there is a complaint here, it's that it barely fits an iPhone Max model, so you will need to take the case off to use it if you have a larger phone. The buttons on the controller have purpose and are all useful. I did not find that I needed any more buttons outside of the ones provided in the app itself. Lastly, the app itself from the iOS perspective is extremely friendly. If you are coming in at this as a beginner, you'll find many useful information right off the bat from flying zones to tutorial videos. It can be overwhelming at first, but the app does a great job simplifying the controls in the flying screen. Having said that, there are many videos on youtube that will give you a great explanation as well.
For operating the drone, the specs are impressive given the price point. A 30 minute battery, but it will drain faster than you realize usually due to wind. This will be something you'll have to be conscious of, if you take 15 minutes to fly out you may not have enough juice to come back especially if going against the wind. With that said, you will find you can still go pretty far in 15 minutes, way within the 10km range of the receiver. The camera does a good job at staying level giving you the best shots. Very rarely though, it is a little crooked but I find it does sort itself out eventually or you can always fix it with software later. Camera controls are easily to use, allow you to either fully let the app control all the settings, or yourself down to the iso and shutter speeds. The included video modes let you have some creative shots, but you do have to be careful as the drone does not have any backwards sensors and will run into things. I find that these kind of shots are a little hit or miss and sometimes you have to reshoot so the drone has a second chance to capture your target in the sensor. Overall, it is a satisfying experience given the price point.
In conclusion, this is a great package to get and play around with as your first drone experience. If you're looking for something with more features but still lightweight, you'll have to move up in models. But for what this is, this is a great drone for anyone.

Still One of the Best on the Market
on September 28, 2023
Posted by: Leonardo
This is Bose's newest iteration of their active noise cancelling headphones. Moving away from the naming scheme of QCnn, these are now just called QuietComfort, so it can be a little confusing when searching for these headphones. Overall, initial impressions are great. If coming into this without any prior knowledge of previous models, these win in several categories ranging from its active noise cancellation to the overall comfort and sound of the unit.
As with their previous models, these are one of the most comfortable headphones I have ever worn. The padding is soft, but not too soft that it will feel loose when wearing them. The headphones are light enough that you will not feel any fatigue from long hours of wearing them. Functionality of this headphone is simple, yet not lacking. While it does not have touch gestures like the ones from Sony, you have the buttons to control volume and play/pause. Double click to go to next, and triple to go to previous. Answer and decline phone calls with the same button using single tap or long hold. The active button allows you to disable the noise cancelling and hear outside noise in addition to activate voice assistant. This can be a little overwhelming and you will definitely forget some of the controls if you don't use these features often, but they do allow for a phone free experience. If you are coming in from previous models, then this will feel right at home. In terms of active noise cancellation, it is one of the best in class. This will essentially block all noise regarding conversation/background noise. What is most impressive is how it can make the power tools I have running at 90+ decibels sound whisper quiet. All of this was observed without music, once you add in even a little music you become completely separated from the outside world. In terms of sound, it is acceptable. Out of the box, it is a little bass heavy but not overwhelming. The trebles still come through as needed, but not as clear if listening to stuff like classical piano music. This can be compensated through their equalizer app, so not all is lost. Bluetooth connection is also seamless. You can simultaneously connect to multiple devices, and the headphones will also switch between which ever device is playing music.
To conclude, these are still one of the best active noise cancelling headphones on the market. While not a significant upgrade from its previous models, it is still a great recommendation if coming in fresh. You will be hard pressed to find disappointment from these headphones.

Amazing little vacuum
on September 24, 2023
Posted by: Leonardo
If you're ever in need of a lightweight, portable shop vacuum for indoors, then this might be the product for you. The MessMaster from Shark has many great things going for it outside of it's portability, and you would be surprised at how well it performs compared to a shop vacuum. With it's many included accessories, you'll find that having one of these handy around the corner is more convenient than you think.
Of the many features, in my opinion, the best is it's ability to use any bag as dust collection. This is optional as you can just use it bagless, but it does provide an easy solution to empty the dustbin without much hassle. The filters are all accessible and easy to remove for cleaning, and thanks to that you may not need to buy anything else in the future to continue getting the same performance as day one. Speaking of performance, this thing really sucks (in a good way). Compared to the 5HP shopvacs I have around, I'm feeling nearly identical suction. That is pretty amazing seeing as how small and portable the unit is. The coord is about 14 feet long, giving you enough movement to use it in an entire room. Overall, this is definitely nice to have compared to dragging around a shop vac to clean around the house.
Moving on to the negatives, there aren't really any that are glaring and would prevent me from buying this product again. All of these are quality of life things that would essentially make this the perfect vacuum around the house. To begin, the hose size is 1 3/8 inches which for me meant that none of the 1 1/4 hose attachments I already have would not fit. Moving on to the dust collection, the lid is attached with a hinge and latch which kind of limits it's usage in a way. Because the mesh filter takes up a lot of the space, you'll find it would have been easier if there was no hinge and the lid came off completely. However, because there is a hinge, you can't fully utilize the full capacity of the bin as you need room for the filter to move out of the way. This is not really a problem if you empty it before getting too full though. On the topic of dust, I would not use this for anything too fine like sawdust. In a traditional shop vac, you go through two layers of filter: the bag and then the actual filter. This provides extreme filtration depending on your bag and filter you use. Here, there is a mesh filter, and two cloth filters. These do not provide nearly the same filtration and you won't get the results you're looking for. In addition to that, there is minimal cyclone effect in the bin meaning not a lot of separation of dust in the bin before it hits the filters. As a result, most of the dust gets attached to the mesh filter inside, decreasing its lifespan before needing to be cleaned.
To conclude, as long as you can see the limitations of this vacuum, it is actually a great product. Cleaning things around the house has not been easier and in my book, this product is a win.

Excellent SSD, Perfect for the Ally
on September 15, 2023
Posted by: Leonardo
Western Digital has released another successful M.2 NVMe SSD, this time designed in the 2230 form factor. It boasts gen4 speeds and the benchmarks do seem to back that data up. Using this with the ASUS Ally gives it the much needed drive space for essentially all your gaming needs. The performance of this versus the original SSD in the Ally are very similar, benchmarks show read in 5.1k MB/s and write in 4.8k MB/s. As for temperatures, the card does get pretty hot as expected in such a small enclosure. During stress testing, expect to see spikes of up to to 80 degrees Celsius, however during normal operation it seems to stay around 60 degrees with is acceptable. With how easy it is to upgrade storage on the Ally, this is an excellent option without any compromises. Although this is a smaller form factor, you can of course use this in any supported gen4 M.2 slots, giving you more options if say a sale comes along. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking, and in my past experience Western Digital has been reliable as far as SSD's go.

Not that great as a sunglass or audio device
on September 6, 2023
Posted by: Leonardo
Audio sunglasses are an interesting concept and definitely have their uses for the correct person. However, for it to be good it cannot compromise on the wearability of a normal sunglass and the audio should feel isolated to the wearer. This audio sunglass from Lucyd fails in both departments and forces the user to make multiple compromises when using the product.
There's really no good things to say about this product other than it looks like a normal sunglass without anything special. If you want to ride incognito, then this might just do the trick. However, you'll find that anyone next to you will also hear your audio as long as you have it at a volume you can comfortably hear at. If that wasn't bad enough, the speakers are not that great either. Good for phone calls and bad for music, almost makes you wonder why you didn't just use earphones instead. But ok, maybe that's acceptable for you so lets discuss the design of it. For starters, this is not comfortable to wear. Their site advertises these for men with medium to large heads, but that could not be farther from the truth. They squeeze very tightly and I use medium sized race helmets. The frame section that rests on your ears are also too thick and forces your ears out in an uncomfortable way. Compared to a normal sunglass, these are twice as thick if not more! Again, compromises had to be made for a slim looking design, but one thing they didn't have to cheap out on are the actual lenses. It is almost unusable with how much glare comes through the back and obstructs your vision. Moving on to the next problem, the electronics are also designed badly. The left and right sections are separated and this is such a bad decision. Because of this, you have separate batteries that need to be charged, leading to having a proprietary charging cable instead of just a standard usb-c port. You have buttons on both sides, but they both do the same thing meaning you better get ready to remember all the different tap, double tap, triple tap, long holds just to use the thing.
Overall, I do not recommend this without at least trying it out in person. There are many options on the market and sometimes function is way better than form.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

This Insignia™ NS-BK1TSS6 kegerator/beverage cooler holds either a 1/2 keg or a 1/4 slim keg and features an adjustable thermostat, so you can easily keep your favorite drinks cold. Two wire shelves help you maintain organization.

Is it true Miller Lite kegs do not fit into this Kegerator?

All that matters is what size the keg is. Shouldn't matter if it is Coors, Pabst, Miller, etc. This kegerator fits up to a 1/2 barrel keg (15.5gal).

If you get a 1/2 barrel keg and fill it with Miller Lite, it will fit into the Kegerator, but the Kegerator will disapprove of your beer choice, as will anybody with any self-respect.

How do I include my cable receiver in my wireless network?

What type of router do I need to create a wireless connection between my wireless router and my DVR receiver?
Any router, really. If your receiver has the capability to connect to the internet, then you should be able to connect to your home network.

What do I need?

Hi- I just want to get a wireless router for my home that will allow me to connect with a Droid, iPhone, and laptop for internet and email downloads. I also need LAN cord output to connect directly to my DVD player for Netflix. I use Comcast. I have NO idea what specs or type of modem I need. Can someone help?
You should be able to find the list of compatible Comcast modems on their website. For the most part, an entry level modem such as the ARRIS SURFboard SB6121 should do the trick. This modem supports up to 174Mbps download, which is more than what most people have anyways. You can usually find these cheap-ish when on sale, since it's very popular.

Easily recharge your smartphone with this PNY PowerPack T5200 rechargeable battery that features a USB output for reliable connection to a variety of devices. The added 16GB microSDHC card lets you store your favorite media.

How do you charge the powerpack? Do you plug it into your computer?

Yes, you can plug it into a computer's USB or into a much faster USB wall adapter. Computer USB's output at a max of 0.9A which means it could take a while to fully charge it. Your standard wall USB adapter for your mobile devices will likely work much better. Anything with a 1.0A to 2.1A range should charge this battery pack relatively quickly.
