Loaded Featureset, Good Print Quality
on April 27, 2021
Posted by: GrizzlyD

The 9025e is a pretty good middle level office inkjet printer. It was incredibly easy to setup out of the box. Plug it in, and install the HP Smart software. Let the rest just kinda happen. Once it's on the network you can print from just about anywhere.
While the printer does make a fair amount of noise, it produces good quality prints and doesn't leave a lot of ink on the page to bleed. Solid color reproduction, and the edges to text is nice and clean.
Print speed is a plus...It tends to churn out pages pretty quickly.
Installing ink was definitely different than printers of the past. It has a chamber that is spring-loaded to hold the carts. I had to reseat them multiple times thinking I hadn't loaded them correctly as they didn't always line up the same way each time.
The instant ink service is a plus in my opinion. I've been using it in my business for several years now and I've not had many complaints. The pricing is decent, and the delivery speed is good. There's only been a couple issues where I've had to reach out to them to get new carts for one random reason or another. But they were always quick to deliver.
This model is particularly nice with the ADF feature on the scanner. It's a massive time saver not to have to switch pages doing scans.
In all, I would say I am pleased with this printer and would recommend it to others.

An elegant, all-weather streaming sound system that blends in with the natural landscape of outdoor spaces. Six satellite speakers and one in-ground subwoofer provide precision performance and even, balanced coverage, allowing for optimal music enjoyment that seemingly emanates from the surrounding landscape.

Pricey, Complicated Outdoor Speakers
on March 15, 2021
Posted by: GrizzlyD
from Clayton, NC
This speaker system produces an excellent sound and can really fill a yard with sound. However, the install is not to be gone into with any sort of reckless abandon. It will require preparation and a bit of knowhow.
The first thing I want to speak to is that the system does not come with speaker cable. So you're going to need to find some really good cable that can safely be buried and withstand the elements. I would also be prepared to keep some sort of mapping as to where you put said cabling so if you have to dig in the future, you know where they are.
The box is huge and packaged pretty well. Nothing was damaged in shipping and everything looks great coming out of the box. The sonos amp is quite nice, but not weatherproof. So you'll need some sort of plan for installing this outdoors. Either you run the wiring outside from inside, or you put the amp outside and have some sort of protective location to store it.
The speakers themselves are not tiny, but not large. They produce a great sound and hide really well amongst the landscaping. Again though, take care not to plant anything with a large root system near the cabling. The sub is powered and will require not only burying the sub, but it's power cords as well. The box comes with weatherproof wire nuts for making solid connections to whatever speaker cable you choose to go with.
In all, it's a great sounding system, that requires quite a bit of planning and technical skill to install correctly. It should not be undertaken by someone who has no technical skills. If you want it done right, hire someone to be on the safe side.
Personally, if I had a mulligan I might have gone with a smaller setup as 6 speakers was a bit of overkill. Especially since the system recommends you install them 8-10ft apart. I would recommend this for a family with a large yard and for those who like to spend a great deal of time outdoors.

Bulky but quiet
on March 7, 2021
Posted by: GrizzlyD
from Clayton, NC
This device is massive!! I suppose maybe it takes a device of great size to properly move enough air to clean multiple rooms worth of air, but the size makes it a real problem finding a place to put it without it looking like a giant white eyesore.
there's a blueair app you can download to control the device. but its pretty basic. you can put it on a schedule and that's about it. it shows you the outdoor air quality which is about useless. in order to get indoor air quality or automation in the device you have to purchase an addon device that is not cheap. and this particular model doesn't work with google home, but it does with amazon alexa.
it's one major saving grace is that it is whisper quiet on level 1 (to the point that you can barely tell it's running). there are 3 total levels. level 3 sounds like a jet engine, level 2 is reasonable, but still enough of a noise that you wouldn't want it in your tv rooom, and level 1 makes no sound at all.
i can't really tell if it's having much of an effect. my spouse has asthma and breathing issues all the time. she's not mentioned any noticeable difference in the couple weeks we've had it. and i've not noticed any trapped particles or dust in the filters. i've been running it on level 3 from 2a-5a everyday, and then on level 1 all day long the rest of the day.
this company makes far smaller units with newer features like google home support, and that come with a more aesthetically pleasing look. i would probably consider one of those prior to getting one of these. as far as efficacy goes...i can't really speak to it at this time. i'm seeing no evidence that it is helping with dust and allergy symptoms.

A great portable gaming PC
on January 1, 2021
Posted by: GrizzlyD
from Clayton, NC
Just...WOW! That display is absolutely beautiful!! This laptop is lightweight, well made, and reasonably powerful for a PC that isn't designated as a gaming laptop.
While the 1650TI is a little dated as far as GPUs go, it does an excellent job of providing raw power when combined with the 11th Gen i7 Intel CPU and 16GB of RAM. We're seeing framerates in the 100s for games like Fortnite.
The OLED display is just gorgeous!! And the resolution is quite something. It's unusual to find a display this good at this price point. And to top it all off...it's a touch screen.
Things I feel are missing...A mini-DP port for external monitor. IT has HDMI, but DP is the way to go these days. And I think they could have afforded to stick in at least 1 more, maybe 2, USB-A slots on the rear of the chassis. It comes with 1 USB-A, and 2 USB-C w/thunderbolt 4.
It did come loaded with some bloatware, but that was easy enough to uninstall. One thing I really have to give Asus credit for this time around though is there system mgmt software. It's definitely an improved experience and does a good job of providing an AIO solution for software/driver updates and adjusting settings like power, display, and audio.
All in all I'm quite pleased with this device at this price point and would highly recommend it for someone who's looking to do some graphic design, general PC work, and light-mid range AAA gaming.

OK outdoor plug w/smart features
on December 6, 2020
Posted by: GrizzlyD
from Clayton, NC
I've not been overly pleased with the WeMo suite of products to date. If you get them setup and working they aren't too bad, but getting them setup is quite a challenge at times.
First, it's a very well constructed outdoor plug with a dual plug connection. Heavy gauge wiring and insulation.
The WeMo software though is a bit troublesome in a few ways. I already have a WeMo dimmer in my office and it's been working well for about 2 years. I've got my WeMo account integrated into my Google Home so I can voice control it. I do recall it taking a little time the first time getting the dimmer up. But once I got it it's been fine ever since.
Fast Fwd to this plug. I went into the app and set it up and believed I had it set, but then had to wipe it and start over a few times. In total I believe I had to go through the setup about 3 times before I got it working correctly on the network so I could turn it on/off using the app.
Now to integrate it into Google Home. I setup a new zone outside and gave it a name and tried to add it, but it wasn't available for some reason. WeMo was only reporting the original dimmer. I had to completely remove the WeMo integration in Google Home to "refresh" the list so that Home would see the new light/zone.
Once it was in the Home system I was able to control it with verbal commands through Google Home. So that was a Win!
Since it's plugged into xmas lights I tried to go back into the WeMo software and set a rule to turn them off at 1am and on at 5pm. What I've found is that it never turns them off at night. But it does seem to be turning them on no problem.
And now here a few days after getting everything working fine, It's no longer showing up in Google Home again. Seems to me that WeMo has some bugs to work out with their automation capabilities.
Otherwise it's a decent plug.

The ROCCAT® Burst Pro Extreme Lightweight Optical Gaming Mouse was aggressively benchmarked against market-leading symmetrically shaped mice. We wanted a design and shape that instantly felt better from the very first touch. Our aim was to have a shape that made it feel like you had nothing in your hand both in terms of a neutral shape and low weight. We wanted to do this without putting holes in the surface to cut down on mass as many competitors have done. We call it extreme lightweight engineering, and with a weight of only 68g we think the name checks out. The pride and glory of the Burst Pro is the Titan Switch Optical. The first generation of ROCCAT mice to feature the technology, the Titan Switch Optical brings game-changing benefits. Tuned for speed and durability, gamers get a familiar click feel – no learning curve – that functions at the speed of light, and with no more double-click issues. The ROCCAT® Burst Pro Extreme Lightweight Optical Pro Gaming Mouse features a striking translucent honeycomb shell that gives a smoky, hazy showcase to the AIMO lighting engine while protecting against dirt and dust. Weighing only 68g, the shell also keeps weight to an absolute minimum. As well as the Titan Switch Optical, the Burst Pro features a PhantomFlexTM cable that virtually disappears, for a near-wireless experience, and a 16K dpi Owl-Eye optical sensor. In yet another industry first, the Burst Pro features heat-treated glides that are a step above PTFE mouse feet. They are pre-tuned for incredibly smooth glide right out of the box.

Great Mouse, Great Price
on November 7, 2020

In a landscape where most high quality gaming mice are tipping the scales around $100+, this mouse comes in just above half that. It's lightweight, feels good in the hand, glides smoothly, and has great responsiveness.
This one has built in RGB and actually looks kinda cool all lit up. It's simple, effective, and has a great design. I would highly recommend if you're looking to get into PC gaming and in the market for a new mouse.

Nice Vacuum w/lots of accessories
on October 31, 2020
Posted by: GrizzlyD
from Clayton, NC
It's a very nice vacuum with a lot of attachments for helping you get various jobs done. It's reasonably lightweight and charges quickly. I was able to get through the whole house with a single charge. The charging station allows for an extra battery to be charging at the same time as the one attached to the vac.
The suction is real good, and it tends to adjust as you move across rugs that are thicker so that it glides easier. One added bonus was the pre-filter suction tool. I've not seen one of these with a vacuum like this before, but it makes sense it should exist. It's a small tube that allows you to clean the filter, with suction, for reuse.
I've had Dyson stick vacs like this, and this performed just as good as those. I don't really understand the need for the wifi feature. Unless it's a robot vac that's going to move about the house cleaning on a schedule, I see no need for wifi.
I would recommend this to others.

The ROCCAT Vulcan TKL is a tenkeyless variant of the award-winning Vulcan family. This smaller form factor means gamers have room for a larger pad and can use a bigger range of a mouse movements, ultimately giving them greater accuracy. Stellar sound & Comfortable fit
on October 19, 2020
Posted by: GrizzlyD
from Clayton, NC
These headphones have a great sound and a very comfortable fit. Super easy to setup...just plug in the usb dongle and you're off.
I tinkered with the EQ settings, which were a bit confusing because nothing really tells you what the various beeps mean. But all in all they have a great sound regardless of the setting. The bass is good and the depth of sound even better. I used the dolby atmos plugin and got some really good audio in Overwatch.
The mic is nice how the boom up or down controls the mute. So just pull the boom down and the mic activates.
Overall I would highly recommend these. They aren't too expensive, they fit great, and they sound great too!

Nothing puts a vacuum to the test quite like a home with pets. That's why the BISSELL® Pet Hair Eraser® was developed from the ground up by pet parents for pet parents. Whether it's shedding season for your dog or your cat tracks kitty litter all over the house, this revolutionary vacuum is designed to make cleaning up after pets and the people who love them a breeze—from beginning to end. Say goodbye to hair wrap with its Tangle-Free Brush Roll, remove embedded hair everywhere with specialized pet tools, help capture allergens and eliminate odors with the SmartSeal™ Allergen System, and when you're finished cleaning, enjoy a hands-free tank empty with our patented Cyclonic Spooling System™.BR>

How load is it? I've used an Oreck XL upright and a Eureka Mighty Mite and would hope it's no louder as those. I prefer bagged vacuums but want to try the BISSELL Pet Hair Eraser because of its claims of not getting hair tangled on the roller.

It's louder than my Dyson DC28. I wouldn't say its outrageously loud, but it's got a bit of a high pitch whine to it.

What is the refresh rate?

there is no refresh rate/response time on an OLED. the pixels are instant on/off. however, there is input lag on the hdmi ports with post processing turned on. i've seen no problems with gaming on the cinema preset. if it's something that concerns you, you can simply turn on game more which disables a lot of post processing lag. but again, my assessment is that it's a moot point.

will this TV benefit from Geek Squad Calibration?

Got this TV several months ago. Think the picture is good, but not significantly better than my 2 yr. old Samsung. Got differing opinions from sales mgr. & geek tech when I asked this Q, then read calibration review from a customer on another LG TV saying the LG he had actually got worse with the Geek Squad Calibration. I don't want to waste my $, but want to make sure I'm getting the best picture I can now that I've invested the $ I did buying it. Any info out there re: 65" LG OLED 4K flat screen calibration?
make certain you're running the latest firmware from the website. the auto updater in the us isn't working properly. it's up to 4.20.75 as of today. i performed a calibration on it, and ultimately decided to go back to the preset Cinema settings. I for one prefer the brightness that comes with this preset. The colors out of the box are pretty spot on, and I actually like the Soap Opera Effect.

Try these calibration settings before blowing several hundred dollars on one: http://www.cnet.com/forums/discussions/lg-65ef9500-picture-settings/

but know that those settings will drastically reduce brightness.
