Precise scale with great multi-user support

I'm upgrading from a more basic 'smart scale' that syncs via Bluetooth.

I opted for the white scale as it blends better with the light gray tiles in the bathroom I'm using it on. It's all great looking white glass with the metal accent center, except for the black LCD screen. It looks nice.
It's powered by 4 AAA alkaline batteries that according to the manufacturer should last over a year. Batteries are included.

The scale supports both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi (2.4 Ghz only).
Initial pairing was very simple and without issues: Install the Withings app on the phone. Then remove the battery tab from the scale and upon registering it works. It uses Bluetooth for initial setup and the guided installation was clear and did not have any issues with it. Worked on the first try. For reference, we use iPhones.

Withings is a French company with a long history of producing health products, so it gives me more confidence that my account information will be handled properly.
The scale measures weight at 0.1 lb. precision. It also measures body composition data as muscle mass, fat mass and bone mass, which also breaks down as visceral fat index, lean mass and water mass. It also measures hear rate.
Standing on the scale takes a few seconds. It first measures weight, and with that it correlates to who is using it. Then it displays in sequence all the other measurements ending with heart rate. If connected over WiFi, it finishes up by displaying weather and air quality based on internet data.
The screen is full color and very easy to read. This is an improvement from older models that have a simpler LED screen.

No phone is needed while using the scale. When connected over Wi-Fi, it will sync to the Withings account directly. If WiFi is not available, it does use Bluetooth to connect directly to a phone.
It integrates with several other health apps. I'm using it with Apple Health, which is done via the phone and the Withings app.
I also use Fitbit and for that I had to search how, but it's simple, via fitbit.com/weight/withings . It can also connect to IFTTT and several other integrations. It seems that this company is ahead when it comes to integrations.

My older Bluetooth scale did a poor job of supporting multiple users. This is the best I've seen yet:
For adults, it gives the option of either add multiple people to the same Withings account, or each person have their own personal account, which are private from each other: Once the first user adds the scale to their account, they can invite other adults to share the scale.
For kids under 16, or for sharing the account, one can add up to 8 users per scale.

Subscription: Of course Withings offers different health coach subscription plans that works better if one has more than just the scale, but there is no requirement to actually pay for a subscription to get the raw data from the scale. They're not pushy so far on the app.
Overall it's a fantastic scale. Withings is a very reputable French company with a good track record. At some point they used to be part of Nokia but they've been independent again for some years now. The Wi-Fi + Bluetooth system makes a great difference and the multi-user setup actually works. Screen is very nice and it's superior to other scales.
Withings has other models of scales that cost two or three times more that provide more advanced data although this is model is the sweet spot for us.

Pleasant looks, large tank, tall

Going back to a trusted brand, this is well thought device.
It looks nice for a humidifier. Silky white with a mid-century pattern, wood looking legs and covered in clear plastic that gives it a pleasant look.
It's taller than most humidifiers, so I don't need to put it on top of a stool, with legs that makes it easier to clean around it.

Controls are tactile, and intuitive. There are lights on some of the buttons and a display that shows the target humidity level when idle. It has settings for on/off, timer up to 12 hours, 3 speeds, either target humidity or continuous, and the lights on the keys can be dimmed or turned off. It also has a white light that illuminates the floor as a night light and that can also be turned on or off.
Holds about 1 1/2 gallons and it's meant to be refilled from the top using a pitcher or bottle.
Since the tank detaches, it can also be filled with a faucet, although since it's a tall container I find it preferable to fill it with a pitcher.
It also comes with one demineralization cartridge to be left inside the tank.

The air intake is on the bottom and one can optionally add a pad moisten with essential oils. I'm using it as a humidifier, but it's an option and the tray is very easy to pull.

Then the whole water container with the ultrasonic mister comes off the base.
Once the container is emptied, the mister that makes the base of the container can be unscrewed and cleaned separately, so no need to reach deep inside the container too often.

This Chromebook is geared mostly towards students.
The CPU is an Intel 2-Core Celeron N4000 at 1.10 Ghz.
4 GB RAM and 64 GB Flash Storage
The screen is 1080P, 16:9 Aspect ratio and touchscreen.
There is a full keyboard with number keys. Letters are stamped on the keys (not etched).

Screen is clear for reading text and basic browsing. It doesn't have the deepest colors. It's a matte screen (cuts down on reflection) and the touchscreen is nice although the screen is quite basic.

This is a new design where the battery and controls are on the top. Cables on the shaft to the brushless engine on the bottom.
Some advantages of this setup is that there is less weight and better weight distribution. It should also be more quiet and more efficient as the motor is directly spinning the trimmer without any gears.
However this will not accept accessories.

The line feed is simple to use, like many others, press to feed, turn the wheel at the bottom to wheel in (there is a hole to lock the spin with a screwdriver while servicing) and the spool comes off easily by releasing a clip.

The rapid charger worked well, and it has a fan when charging.
The battery is 2.0Ah, which is the lowest capacity Greenworks sells for their 80V series. Currently their highest capacity in 80V is 5.0 Ah
Like with any battery tool from any brand, the tool will only work with brand-specific batteries.
Overall first impression is that this is a great tool.
Warranty is 4 years for the tool and 2 for the battery.

I didn't encounter any problems assembling it but it came in a lot of small pieces. Some of the metal pieces have razor sharp edges and the protective film on some of the metal takes several minutes to peel off.
The heater and other gas parts come fully pre-assembled.

Once assembled, it calls for filling the base with sand, dirt and/or water to make it more stable.
It also comes with three garden stakes and screw-in anchors for the base. I don't think the stakes would help much but it allows for larger stakes, if staying on dirt.

For storage (As it's almost 8 ft tall), removing the mast is simple enough. The mast is two pieces and there are four screws on each part.

There are several attachments including three size hair trimmers, nose and body.
There are several guards:
- Dark gray for head hair with 5 sizes and 2 in angle which are new to me). The angle guards are used to transition from thick to short hair around the ears. All of these fit on the wide trimmer.
- Light gray for facial hair to be used with the standard trimmer (3x). There are also two adjustable guards: One for precision, short cuts and one for longer cuts.

Charging is now via USB-A. I find it odd that it needs a proprietary cable which looks the same as any other Philips shaver or trimmer, except this has an USB-A on the other side. The older power adapters appears to be no longer supported but the plug is the same. Also it's USB-A not the newer USB-C that is now used on most new products. The wall brick is not provided. The odd choice in the power cable might be related to water proofing, as this can be used in the shower. It charges in two hours and has a long battery life.
It comes in a custom-fit storage pouch. The side for the trimmer and the main tools is very nice, but the side for the guards is a bit tight for the amount of tools. It's also harder to get one thing without having to remove a bunch of others due to the way it opens. The outside is semi-rigid. Well made.
Overall it's a great improvement over already good trimmers.

Great design with pen cradle

Reviewing this keyboard with a Surface Pro 9.
The Alcantara surface is my favorite part of the keyboard.

If setting the keyboard all the way flat, it feels very wobbly, but folded against the bottom lip as this is the intended use feels very solid.
The trackpad is fine, wide enough; not the widest trackpad but it's fine. Clicking requires a bit more force than other tablets but is fine.
Typing is comfortable with island keys with enough travel. They're backlit with three brightness levels.
Putting the keyboard flat reveals the thin pen. The cradle for the pen also charges it. This is leaps and bounds improvements over the older pens.
The pen's tip is removable, and there are sensors on the tip itself, so getting new tips won't be as simple as in older models. The tip itself feels more solid. The control button is right where one would hold the pen, and the top is an action button that is configurable for one click, two clicks and hold action, with vibration feedback from the pen. As mentioned, to recharge it just simply put it back on the cradle. No more sticking the pen to the top of the tablet.

Coming from a surface Pro 3, the hardware is much improved.
Most welcome improvement to me is that this has two USB4/Thunderbolt4 ports.
The magnetic charge plug remains the same across all Surface models. The power brick remains the same, with a 65W model that includes an USB-A port for charging, which I find convenient.
Then I noticed there are no other ports. No headphone plug, no MicroSD card reader like in previous releases.
Most welcome improvement to me is that this has two USB4/Thunderbolt4 ports.

My surface Pro 3 became unusable when the internal SSD stopped working reliably and since there is no way to do any repairs on these tablets, could no longer work.
This model has a great improvement which is a magnetic latch behind the hinge that exposes the SSD drive, so this is the only upgradeable component here. Everything else is sealed.

Windows setup is about the same as any other windows laptop. A tad simpler because one is only required to sign to a Microsoft account (and yes it seems to be a requirement). Other than that there is the usual amount of endless advertisements and bundle apps like Spotify, Disney, Instagram, TikTok (really), Amazon apps and so on.
Then there is the hours long required upgrades and multiple reboots. Some of the required upgrades appeared to get stuck and duplicate until they eventually went away after having to run a repair right after the initial setup. Typical windows issues.

The screen is very nice, I really like the form factor that is taller than the typical 16:9 in other laptops, I can do a lot more here.
Screen is HDR but only for movies. HDR is unavailable for any other mode including photos, even when plugged in. It's not something I need but I find it odd.

Overall it's an excellent convertible tablet / laptop. The screen format is excellent with the longer format a pleasure to use. It's not possible to service except for the SSD. That the SSD can be swapped is a major improvement.
Because the only ports are two USB4/TB4 ports means one would be wise to carry some adapters like a portable USB-C hub. Being a Microsoft product I'd expect it will have better support over time, although the initial setup did not feel any less convoluted than any other laptop.

Exceeded my expectations

Some background: This not my first drone, but nothing I used before is nearly as good as this.
My last drone (from a different brand that also makes professional drones) must've missed a GPS signal and flew sideways into a tree when it was about to auto-land.
The reason is I live in a heavily wooded area, and I was using my drone to inspect some ongoing major construction; so I have some previous experience with some scarring memories, as this was not the first drone I lost.

What distinguishes this 'Classic' version versus what I call the standard Mavic 3 is the camera and the controller. The Camera in the classic is an excellent Hasselblad camera, but the standard also adds a telephoto camera. Also the Classic benefits from the app-based controller, whereas the standard comes with an RF remote that connects to a mobile phone.
Although I owned it for a week, I've been taking small steps to build confidence since I don't need another drone in a tree.
DJI offers some very practical video courses at different levels. I took some of the basic ones to understand the equipment.
For the first flight I noticed that the rear propellers are only about two inches from the ground, which means a bit of grass will interfere with the propellers, so I started from a paved surface instead.
The controller is actually a customized android device. The first time I started the drone, the controller connected to Wi-Fi at the house and installed new firmware on both the drone and controller. Training materials and YouTube training videos are also available from the controller. This seems to be the same exact app 'DJI Fly' for iPhone or Android. It also interacts with FAA's B4UFLY database and DJI can even coordinate fly authorizations on restricted areas.
The flight screens are very intuitive, controls are very intuitive and the screen is on par with a cell phone.

One of the Mavic 3 features is longer range remote, with out to 30 KM for control and 15 KM for video. This in itself is impressive on specs, although I started getting interference warning not even 500 Ft away if direct line of sight was obstructed between the drone and remote. Also this remote does not have external antennas. It works best when pointed at the drone.
Hovering is very precise. I could take photos and videos with no jitter either at front-face or hovering 150 Ft above the subject.
There was an occasion where although I selected return to home, and had perfect video, the drone did not started its return path, but had no problem with a manual landing.
The pictures I took look amazing. Note that the drone has 8 GB internal memory although it has a MicroSDHC slot which I would be using (Note that it should be loaded with a high endurance card). Video is smooth with no jitter.
The remote also has a MicroSDHC slot. Images and videos can be loaded from the memory, transferred to the controller or directly from the drone to the phone via Wi-Fi, once it landed.
Charging: The drone comes with a 65W USB-C GaN charger that also has a second USB port to charge the controller at the same time, which is also USB-C. Battery has to be inserted in the drone, but can be charged separately if getting the optional Fly More bundle.
Metadata on the pictures taken indicates a Hasselblad L2D-20c camera and 20 MP resolution (5280 x 3956) with 4:3 Ratio.
The Mavic like always defines what a personal drone can do and this does is the latest, excellently executed.

Managed high end security with limited flexibility

It might not be clear from the description but this is not simply another Wi-Fi router.
While yes, this router performs excellent with Wi-Fi6 and Wi-Fi 6E radios, wireless/wired mesh networking, 2.5 Gb uplink port, the star is the managed security functionality.

This is a long review to explain exactly how this works. I'm a software engineer which worked on network and appliance designs for years, so take it as an informed review:
Background
The Motorola Networks brand is licensed by Minim, which is the company that actually produces this router.
I know this because it's a New England company (Where I live). It was started by one of the Dyn networks founders (Dynamic DNS provider) and the company also provides remote management of WiFi networks for ISPs (Internet providers) and for business that needs these solutions. Late in 2020, they merged with another Boston area company Zoom Telephonics, which has been making networking products since the late '70s (Modems, Cable Modems, Wi-Fi, etc.) So it seems like a good combination of a hardware company with a long history and a modern management system for a Mesh Wi-Fi. They've been licensing the Motorola name for several years now.
The routers have no local management: There is no web page to configure it, and all has to be done from a mobile app: Moto sync.
There is a very good onboarding that walks you through setting this up in mere minutes. It's very straightforward, except that I'm using Verizon Fios and I had to wait for the DHCP lease from my old router to expire so I could continue the set up. Regardless once the Wi-Fi router connects it's straightforward, and one can start using it. There is a QR code on the bottom of the router and a big sync button on the bottom of each router to connect right away.

Once connected, the routers use the MINIM service DNS servers that act as a filter for malicious sites. The level of filters and other restrictions can be set from the app. There is no way to change the DNS servers the router will use because many of the security features would stop working. There is no manual override of this.
The router will also detect each device connected to it, analyze its MAC address and profile the traffic determining exactly what type of device it is, including in my case the specific model of Apple laptop, the iOS version running on iPhones, the model of Alexa speakers, models of Bose and Sonos speakers, PC maker, Windows version, different Wi-Fi lights and so on.
It will also profile and record bandwidth utilization and each web site visited (or DNS address). It does this by inspecting DNS queries. It does not seem to snoop on URLs or context (and most is encrypted nowadays so it wouldn't be practically possible).
Every device is then assigned to a common pool, and through the app one can create profiles (ie, users in the house or office) and assign individual devices to each profile. So then the app allows to apply filters and blocks per profile. This is very neat.
The app can also push notifications on events like someone connecting a new device.

The app allows to rename the Wi-Fi network and change from the default password, and also create different networks on the router, but it does not allow to change the IP range from the default 192.168.1.0 and it also does not allow to reserve IP addresses.
It does allow UPnP and port forwarding although since it does not allow IP reservations, the app lets one set up forwarding based on the name of the device. For example if I want to expose the Plex Media server port I have to do it based on the computer running it, not its IP address. I find this is clever and user friendly, although not what I expected.

One device did not work, and it's a fairly new LIFX lightbulb, and figured out it does not work because the router only provides WPA3 security (which is the latest in Wi-Fi security and what everyone should be using), but this Wi-Fi light did not support it. So there's a caveat that if someone has some older devices or some appliances that happen to support Wi-Fi, they might not work. The workaround is to connect an older Wi-Fi router dedicated to these one-off devices, that just need connection but not the latest in Wi-Fi.
Also note that Wi-Fi 6E (the new 6Ghz band) has limited range. One new All-in-one desktop with Intel 12th gen CPU and Wi-Fi 6E radio was not able to reach the router in the 6Ghz frequency but it connected fine using the 5Ghz Wi-Fi 6.
Also as I had technical questions I contacted support via the chat feature on the app and the rep was very knowledgeable and provided straight answers and did not have to wait long at all. At this rate their support seems excellent.
Overall, I would heartily recommend this to someone that is not very involved and just want things to work, like 99% of us. For someone more technical that needs more flexibility, this might not be for them. Too bad because those are basic things that could be added to these routers but in fact it's currently not possible.
Also I have to say that all the included security features come included, there are no extra fees. There are no upsells on the app. It just works with all the security features enabled. It's a great deal in this regard.

It depends on your music tastes and budget :)
Keep in mind that these will act as surround speakers, so in this case you'll have surround speakers that are more powerful than the main speaker and that's not necessarily the best setup.
If I were contemplating such solution I'll stick with the Sonos Play for surround and use the Play:5 elsewhere as main speakers.

I have set up the beam and can turn off the tv with Alexa, but when I ask to have the tv turned on, it never turns on even though Alexa says it is done. What am I doing wrong? I have a TCL 49inc Roku tv. It is set up on both Sonos app and Alexa app.
It works for me, using a Hisense TV. "Alexa, Tun On TV", it turns on the TV connected to the Sonos Beam.
It could be an issue with the HDMI CEC configuration on your TV, or it could be that the phrase "Turn on TV" is configured on Alexa to do something else. Check on the Alexa app if there is a group, device or routine named either "TV" or "Turn on TV".
We have a Harmony hub remove already configured in another room and Alexa was turning that on instead when speaking to the Sonos. After renaming that activity via Harmony, then Alexa worked as intended on the soundbar.

Can an owner of the original non active 65t comment on the fit and stability difference with the active version? Curious if that and the extra IP rating is worth a look, or negligible.
I have both. (The second pair is for my wife). They are the same size, shape and weight. Besides slight color differences, the Active have a rubberized texture on the earbuds and on the charging case. The manufacturer's web site also indicates that it has a motion sensor, but I have not seen any difference when using the iOS app.
The silicon gel pieces look the same as the standard model. Battery life and other features are the same.
I've been using the standard model since it came out and the Actives for a few days, and didn't notice any difference in how they fit on my ears.

Yes, on phone calls, audio comes from both earbuds. Also each earbud has two mics, and uses the mic array to isolate ambient noise

Does the quick attention mode turn on when you rest your head against the the side of the airplane or headrest ? If so, can this feature be turned off ?
No, it doesn't activate when laying on a pillow, etc.

Let’s say the battery dies and I connect with a wire. Will noise cancelling work? I know Bose QC35 will provide a sound but no noise cancelling on that case. What about Sony?

Does the recently unveiled new version of MDR-1000x (WH-1000XM2) support multiple bluetooth connections as does Bose's QC 35 and all the other high-end wireless headphones? That was the only reason I haven't purchased the MDR-1000x.
It does remember multiple BT connections, and can connect to a music profile and audio(phone) profile simultaneously, but not to two music streams simultaneously.
