Decent machine

I picked thius up to use as nothing more than Plex server. It's roughly the same specs as a Home Theater PC I was going to buiild, but for a lot less money. It performs ok, if not spectacular at this task. I went in and disabled everything I didn't need running in the background and it can stream most video to any of my devices. It has choked on some 1080p video, but for the most part has done well.
Keep in mind that transcoding is hard work. The average PC user who is just going to run web browsers and watch some movies will do great with this machine. You could play some games with the frame rate turned down, but nothing high end.

Strong WiFi, Weak Interface

I have a 2700 sq ft house and the WiFi signal is good everywhere. I haven't had any router that has had as good WiFi coverage through the whole house like this one. It loses one star because in it's simplicity, the interface is crippled. Parental controls require you to install the Netgear app, and won't let you set them via the web app, which makes no sense at all. Parental Controls also require an Open DNS account, which is an added step. Also, it takes extra configuration to apply parental controls to just selected devices, meaning by default they are set for every computer. Setting parental schedules to limit usage are also difficult. Just a poor, non-intuitive controls system.These are all things i have been able to do on other routers very easily.
In a nutshell, if WiFi coverage is most important and you don't need parental controls, I highly recommend this. If you want simple, easy to use parental controls, consider if you want to use OpenDNS as well...and even then it's not great.

The Nest works great. The obvious features of being to set temps remotely are easy to use. The learning features work, but you will likely need to go in and adjust them from time to time. Reason being, if you adjust the temperature for a one time setting, the learning will see that and auto set that temp at that time the next day. Over time, with a few adjustments the learning works quite well. It is also very easy to set up pre-defined schedules with as many temp changes as you might want.

Excellent laptop, Average tablet

The Yoga 2 Pro makes a great ultrabook. It is fast, and does everything you would need from an Ultrabook. That said, it is an average tablet. Not to say that it suffers from poor performance. The issue is, even at 13", it is simply too big to use comfortably as a tablet. The keyboard being on the back makes for an awkward hand-hold.
This laptop really stands out using the tent-mode and the stand mode. Tent mode is great for setting on a counter, while the stand mode works great for watching movies.
There may be some reliability issues with this machine. I returned the first one because the touch pad was sticking. The replacement ended up having a defective SSD. I returned that and went with the Surface Pro 3.

How is the reception in a two story home?
I have 2 floors and 2700 sq ft and it covers everywhere quite well.

We have 2 acres with a 2 story house and a man cave in the shop 75 feet from the house. Will this go that far for smart tv and other toys in the mancave? Jani
If you are talking about wood construction walls, 75' should be no problem. The more important question is how many feet between the router and your shop.Mine reaches every corner of a 2700 sq ft house and I can use smart TV's everywhere to stream video. I also still have wifi on my phone through my entire back yard, which isn't huge, but certainly farther than 75'.I located my router centrally in the house and have wood construction and it works great. Any type of metal or brick/concrete will reduce your coverage quite a bit.

Will I be able to hook this up to my record player?
I have a usb1 music hall turn table and would like to hook it up to this.
There is an aux audio out jack on the back, so you should be able to connect this to anything. If your record player uses RCA outs, you just need a headphone to RCA jack.

I'm 64 and never owned a laptop. Can I get new one ready to use?
I browse the internet, use AOL email, download and send pictures, use for information, want to hook up a printer/fax/xerox/scanner to it, need spyware and protection, download PDF documents, do NOT play games, save stuff I get off sites, do not watch TV, need wireless, can fix itself if I mess up, does not have to be super fast.
Would this be good laptop for me? Can someone put in all the stuff I said I needed before sending it to me so it's ready to use? Does it cost extra?

This computer might be more than you need based on your description. It has pretty high specs. It will definitely handle what you want it to do.
I think that getting them to add the anti-virus/spyware is covered if you buy their Geek Squad protection plan, but otherwise would cost extra.
Your best bet is go in and talk to one of the sales people in the computer department.

Just web browsing, probably around 6 hours. That will go down if you are watching a lot of video though.
