Good idea, but not so great in reality

I need two monitors for work. I looked at a couple of solutions, but with a Macbook Pro, there seem to be only three.
1. Buy thunderbolt compatible monitors and daisy chain them. I found this cost-prohibitive as my two AOC monitors cost less that one Thunderbolt monitor
2. Use a device that creates an extended Display over two monitors via Thunderbolt, effectively splitting the Thunderbolt or Mini Display port signal. The only one I found was from Monoprice. It was horribly reviewed and it only did DVI, not HDMI.
3. This device. Several offerings, I got the J5 from Best Buy because I enjoy shopping at the store. The reality is that the device is HDMI over USB 3.0. I really had my reservations about this technology, but it does work. It just doesn't work _well_. It hits a known bug in OS X that causes the screen to jump during refreshes, momentarily scrambling everything. I have used it enough that I now, mostly, ignore it. I am checking in with the folks at J5 every month to see if there's a fix. Until then, it more or less suits my need and I resisted the temptation to return it.

What's great about it: Easy to set up, reasonable price
What's not so great: Flicker on screen refresh, taps known bug in OS X
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
