I had my basic Cuisinart for 30 years. The cover finally quit latching and I searched the reviews, knowing Cuisinart was no longer the primo processor of old. The Kitchenaid seemed to fit the bill.
Pros: The variable slice thickness and reversible grate disc are nice features. The Empire Red matches or coordinates with my other. countertop appliances. Processing is quiet and fast. It's easy to lock the bowl and cover in place.
Cons: The push buttons are hard to operate. They don't depress easily, and require more hand strength than seems reasonable. It is difficult to remove the cover when processing is done, and I'm always afraid it will break..The plastic is fragile. I dropped the food pusher right out of the box, and a piece broke off. It still is useable, but it's kind of a bummer. I looked into replacing it, but the part is discontinued. I did buy Geek squad protection, but the way I read it, dropping a part and breaking it is not covered. The pusher on my old processor was virtually indestructible-- hard, opaque, almost rubber-like plastic. I miss it. Worse yet, I managed to insert the pusher backwards once, and it was seriously stuck. I thought all was lost at that point, but my husband managed to dislodge it without breaking the pusher or the cover. The front of the object is slightly curved. The back is straight. It's not all that obvious, at least to me, because it's clear plastic. Since that close call, I've marked the front of the pusher with permanent marker.
In a nutshell, it's attractive and does a variety of food proceeds jobs well. If only it didn't feel destined to break, I'd be a satisfied purchaser.
