Affordable Echo Integration
on March 22, 2017

Prior to using the HS105, I was using the HS100 which I love. It is THE solution for Alexa integration. Now I have to add the HS105 to that recommendation as well. In fact, it is even better as the HS105 only takes up one wall outlet leaving the other open for use. The HS100 and HS110 both block the other outlet preventing its use.
The HS105 is directly integrated with Alexa and can be configured to work locally or remotely, if you want to operate it while away.
The setup process could not be easier. The TP-Link Kasa application walks you through the setup process. It will also allow you to configure a schedule for when to turn on/off. Additionally, there is an away mode which turns your devices on and off at different times to give the appearance that someone is home.
Comparing these to Wemo, they are more stable. I've not had any connection issues with these whereas I have had a couple with Wemo, especially when unplugging the device from the wall.

Turn electronics on or off remotely with this pair of TP-LINK smart plugs. A smartphone app lets you turn lights, appliances or a television on or off, and you can monitor the energy use of all connected devices. Control connected appliances with just your voice using these TP-LINK smart plugs when paired to Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant.

Hands-down best smart plug for Alexa integration

If you want to control a pluggable device via Alexa, look no further. The HS100 and HS110 are THE solution. They are directly integrated with Alexa and can be configured to work locally or remotely if you want to operate them while away. The HS110 adds the ability to monitor power usage. It is a neat feature and one that I find myself using more than I thought I would.

Share a high-speed network connection by using this TP-Link Powerline Ethernet adapter kit. It lets you connect up to two wired devices, such as a computer and IPTV, and its HomePlug AV2 technology transfers data at up to 1,000 Mbps. This plug-and-play TP-Link Powerline Ethernet adapter kit saves on energy consumption with power-saving mode.

Great way to extend your network.
on January 19, 2017

I have always loved the idea of networking over power lines. It's a great idea since all homes are pre-wired for electricity and when you need an Ethernet connection for a computer or other device, there is always an outlet nearby since the computer or device will need power itself. The TP-LINK TL-PA7020 is perfect for this job and has an excellent price to top it off.
Unlike a lot of the higher end Powerline networking devices this is a down-n-dirty, basic way to provide an Ethernet connection in an area of your house where you don't currently have network access. These are dead simple to get up and running. With other devices I've tried, you have to pair the devices beforehand and/or perform other steps before you can use them, these are ready to go out of the box. Both units are the same, simply plug one of the connect one of the units to a LAN port on your router/switch and plug it in to an outlet. Then, plug the other TL-PA7020 device into the outlet where you need access. Your device(s) needing network connections can then be plugged into it. That's all!
Since each device can either be the transmitter or the receiver, you can buy multiple kits and pair them all together. While 1 pack allows one remote connection, every additional pack you buy gives you two more since they can pair to the original device connected to the router.
Some caveats...Powerline network devices need to be on the same circuit in order to even come close to the advertised speeds. For me, the speed reduction when not on the same circuit was less than half of what it was when it was on the same circuit. One the same circuit I was seeing over 250 Mbps while on a different circuit it dropped below 100 Mbps. TP-LINK also has an app, tpPLC, that you can use to monitor the Powerline network and its speeds. So, it really depends on your houses wiring as to how beneficial these can be. My newer house has a huge circuit panel and many different circuits and it just didn't work out for me. I gave this device 5 stars anyway since this is not a flaw of this particular product, but that of Powerline networking in general.

Great tunable bulb
on December 12, 2016

TP-LINK's smart bulbs are quickly becoming popular due to their Amazon Echo/Alexa integration. Unlike other smart bulbs, these bulbs have the added bonus of not requiring a hub for control. The downside is there is no current integration with any of the smart hubs such as Wink or SmartThings.
Like all of the other bulbs in TP-LINK's lineup, setup is very easy using TP-LINK's Kasa app. The application is well made and easy to understand. Setting the bulbs up is a simple process. Once setup, you can set them up in groups to control singularly should you desire. The Kasa app also shows daily, weekly, and monthly usage statistics of the smart bulbs. Also, Integration with Alexa is awesome and works well.
The bulbs themselves are dimmable through the brightness control and allows you to set it with the 1-100% range. The light they put out is as good as my other LED bulbs which were highly rated by Consumer Reports. The bulb color range is controllable from warm yellow to bright white and can be any gradient between these points.

Remote Sensor for the win!
on July 23, 2016

My house has 2 thermostats and I was holding out for a good sale before I bought the Nest thermostats. While periodically checking for deals, I would read about the ecobee3 and it's remote sensors. These sounded like a great feature since my thermostat locations are in rooms that don't typically get much foot traffic when we're home. Additionally, we experienced inconsistent temperatures particularly on the second floor where one bedroom would be really cold while the others would be warmer. After reading about others' having these issues resolved with the remote sensors, I decided to give them a try. Installation was a breeze since I already had the correct wiring. Upon installation, I was prompted to setup which was fairly simple. Before purchasing the units, I thought I would mess with them quite a bit and I was happy that they had integration with HomeKit, Wink, and Amazon Echo. In reality, once I tweaked the settings after about a week or so, I really haven't touched them. Occasionally, I'll change the setting using the Echo, but they really are "set and forget".

T4U offers great speeds and good signal strength
on March 18, 2016
Posted by: Rockadile
This is a review of a free product received by TP-LINK as part of the review program. The TP-Link T4U offers impressive speeds and signal strength compared to the wireless N adapter it replaced. It is USB 3.0 for maximum speed and offers both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. The install was quick and painless in Windows 10. I simply plugged it in and the driver was installed by Windows. The signal strength with my old adapter was a bit sketchy at times but the T4U appears to operate at full strength all the time. Large file transfers are bearable now and I no longer feel like I should be plugging into my router. The adapter comes with a USB 3.0 extension cable, but I wish the cable had a built-in.
