Tons of features and great picture quality.

LG now has an Ultra HD player that is an affordable option for those who have a 4K TV. My first impression was that the build quality seemed a bit on the plastic side. The player doesn’t come with much in the way of instructions but really you just set it up like most modern AV devices, that is, plug in the HDMI cable to your AV receiver or TV. Going through the setup wizard was quick and easy if not a bit bland. That is about it as the only other thing in the box is the remote. Missing is the HDMI cable. I don’t agree with any manufacturer's decision to leave out the HDMI cables. It is always a plus when the manufacturer supplies the correct cable so that was a disappointment. If you are using a 4K TV you need an HDMI cable rated for 18 GBs. And keep in mind that this player will work with non 4K TVs just fine. Clearly that’s not what this player is for but if you are in the market for a disk player this one is very close to future proof. The only disks formats it doesn’t support is DVD Audio and SACD. These are music only audio formats and if you're using those disk types you probably already have a player for them. This is a feature rich player that supports HDR (High Dynamic Range), 4K streaming, DVD, Blu-Rays, USB and External HDD playback with both Ethernet and WiFi connections. For HDR and Dolby Vision you will need a newer 4K TV that supports these formats. Don’t worry though as the picture quality here is among the best you can get from any player on any TV. For me I just plugged in the HDMI 1 connection to my receiver. There is an HDMI 2 connection on the back but it's labeled as audio only. For streaming Netflix with Dolby Vision and HDR support is the star here, again if your TV supports these formats and finally 4K YouTube is here as well. I felt like the remote was well done. I don’t have an LG TV so I used it to control the player and it felt very good in my hands. I think this is a very competitive offering in the Ultra HD player space. It compares well with the competition and for those that are lucky enough to have a high end 4K TV this is a very nice addition. For those that don’t it is still a very nice player and as prices for the high end TVs with HDR and maybe Dolby Vision come down this is probably the most future proof player currently available.

I put this in my S8+ and using the USB-C port this copies files very fast. I have used many Micro-SD cards over the years but this one has been by far the fastest and it just works. My family at home is now only my wife and myself. We both work and have long drives home each day. Like many families you just want your dinner to be fast and easy. The evenings go by to fast before you are back at work again. We both love grilled foods but we haven’t used an outside grill because it is just too much of a hassell. Between the time to prepare the grill and actually cook a meal on it takes to much of our limited time. The Phillips grill has completely changed that for us. It is really fast at both getting started up and actual cooking times are greatly reduced. One complaint is the same for any countertop appliance which is the room it takes. We have a small kitchen and did have the space but it would be something to consider. The grill uses infrared heat and Phillips claims up to 80% reduction in smoke. This will depend on what you're actually cooking but some foods you don’t even see any smoke. Others you might have smoke but it's never anything even close to any outside grill. The grill is very easy to clean and the two main parts to clean are dishwasher safe. You probably can’t get any outside grill to even fit in a dishwasher. Of course that also is because the actual cooking surface isn’t that large but it can fit two good size steaks and maybe a third if there not to big. The fact is this grill does perform as claimed and cooks fast with a minimum of cleanup and you never get the burning you would over a flame. If you looking to grill a quick steak or any other number of choices this grill is a great addition. There is only one control that turns the grill on and it has two settings. The second is full on and the first is a keep warm setting. Thats a nice addition since you will need to learn to adjust your cooking times as you get used to using the grill. There is no actual temperature adjustment here. Within a minute or two the grill gets to 446 degrees and that’s it. The perfect cooking temperature without actually burning your meal. Grilling can really make a quick meal something special. The Philips grill is a great addition and has made it possible to expand our meal choices in a way I can’t think of any other countertop appliance that can. It comes highly recommended but you will want to leave in on a counter and not put it in a cabinet like so many other appliance end up.

Excellent gaming laptop that give nothing up

This is a hard review to write so let’s just get back to gaming everyone. That is exactly how I felt since I have been using the new HP OMEN Laptop. Ok I admit it I love PC gaming. And I was knocked over at the performance of this gaming laptop. Before I give my final impressions anyone interested in a gaming laptop is either focused on their budget or the system spec. Well in this case the cost is very competitive with the competition. You have the newest top of the line 7th Generation, Intel i7 processor so nothing to worry about there. 16GB of ram should be standard in any modern gaming computer and we have that here also. The other two critical part are the GPU and your connection options. Well I looked hard to find another laptop with the AMD Radeon RX 580 GPU. And I have yet to see another gaming laptop with that option so I didn’t know what to expect. I am happy to say that you don’t have to worry here. Like all mid level GPUs this goes head to head with the Green Team. Finally the connection options. Well I do have a few issues, on the left we have a DisplayPort with a mini connector. So if you're going to run a second DisplayPort monitor your going to need the right cable. There available but it would have been a nice addition in the box. There is a full size HDMI cable to the rescue but again it was in not the box. Finally there is wired lan, a power USB, seperate mike and headphone jack and a USB 3.1 Type-C that supports power. This is becoming a very important connection today and any modern computer should have this option. And if you're in the market for a Laptop it should be a must have connector. Phones, external HDD, DisplayPort monitors and any number of future devices will need this port. It is also a sign this is a new modern mainboard and I do like that this new technology is backed by HP and their support process. And then of course there is the keyboard and display. The display is nice and bright and works as well in gaming as in desktop work. The keyboard feels good is easy to reach and supports macros. The red backlighting could use more options but it doesn’t take away from the experience and looks good. The trackpad is done very well and maybe one of the best I have seen on any Laptop.The separate right and left buttons are a nice addition. The build quality here is top notch with little to no flex. It can get hot on long game plays but the heat is above the keyboard and it never gets so warm that I was even thinking about it.

This gaming Laptop comes with top of the line parts, a very good selection of connection options, a very fast CPU and GPU and the thermals work well. It is a 17” display and there are some 15’ options. Choose by what you would use it for. If your main thing is gaming the bigger display models will serve you well. The smaller screen options by HP would be easier to carry around. With this Laptop and a Geek Squad warranty and you are good to go for a long time. One final word, I played on the Laptop screen and also on my 34” widescreen 2K monitor. It has been a great experience on both and for what you get here this is a great gaming laptop option and shouldn’t be overlooked. If I had one complaint it is with the boot time. This model only has the 1TB HDD. There is an M.2 slot where I can add a fast SSD which is easy to do and something I plan to do. Simply create the HP USB recovery drive through an assistant software program. Take the back off to access the original HDD and take it out, put in the M.2 drive and restore the OS to there. Then put the HDD back in. Or better yet get the model that already has this M.2 SSD and HDD option already setup. No matter what once the Intel i7 processor and AMD RX580 get going you're in for a treat.

Gets better with use

JBL - Everest 310 Wireless On-Ear Headphones - Gunmetal
This JBL Everest 310 wireless headphone is a very nice device in its market. It has most everything you need in a lite and portable headphone. A claimed 20 hour battery life, it is lightweight, supports wired and Bluetooth connections and came with a very nice carrying case. The build quality is good and there is plenty of padding on the ear pads. The sound seems to have improved with use so break in time has been very helpful. I felt like the sound seems tuned more for the low and midrange so the highs don’t have that sparkle that I like. For me the fit was a little tight and that’s a problem with on-ear headphones more that it might be for the over the ear style. I hope they loosen in time but honestly you have to have them on for extended periods of time before it becomes noticeable. These are great traveling and office headphones and from the initial connection to the ear pad controls they are very well engineered. I am looking forward to the sound opening up a bit with use but I have little to complain about even now.

JLab - Epic2 Sport Wireless Earbud Headphones - Black
The JLab - Epic2 are a set of Bluetooth in-ear monitors that provide a lot of value. One thing that sets them apart is the 10 hour battery life. This is two or more hours than most of the headphones in their price range. You may not need that long of battery life but it is always a good thing to have on tap. In my first use I did yard work and this is the first pair of in-ear headphones I did not have to even think about. I never reseated them to get that isolation that is so important for all in-ear headphone. And it only took my second choice of gel-tips to find one that sealed my ears and was very comfortable. Your are provided a pretty good choice so there should be a gel-tip to fit most anyone. JLabs has a breakin application. Some headphone need several hours on them to break the drivers in. I haven’t seen this even mentioned on other brands at this price level and especially not a dedicated app to help. You have to create an account to use the app so if that’s not to your liking just give them sometime using them and you're doing the same thing. One standout feature is the inline control. They are very lite, easy to use and feel even with gloves on. They never pulled down on my ears the way some brands do. They wrap over behind your ears and you can let them hang in the front or use the provided clips to do an around the head fit. There is an included case that looks good and should provide adequate protection. Since I hope the sound improves overtime my first impression is they lack some of the lower and mid bass I like. They do get plenty loud enough. It hard to find fault with the Epic2’s. They do most everything right but I would recommend them more for an active user than an office user. In the office I like to pull my earphones to take off quickly if a co worker steps in to chat. The Epic2’s fit much more snug in your ears so they're not quite as flexible. Finally I did have some intermittent connection issues on my Galaxy S8+ while doing the yard work. It was not bad and maybe better than most Bluetooth headphones I have tried.

Big mouse with big features

Logitech - MX Master 2S Wireless Laser Mouse - Graphite
There no doubt Logitech has a great mouse here. As their flagship mouse it is big in a lot of ways. Starting with your hand. This is a very large mouse so be sure you have held it and it is comfortable to you. For me it was fine but it will take a bit more time to be completely comfortable using it. I used the mouse for my office work and at home mostly for PC gaming. It worked just fine and I will say in tracking it felt very good. As you expect for a top of the line product like this the buttons felt solid as did the scroll wheel. Just expect to take a little time learning to use the left side buttons as they're very close to each other. The Logitech Options software was very easy to install and use. I highly recommend you do use the software to get the full feature set this mouse supports. Other features that need to be mentioned is the 70 day battery life, and quick charge function. Logitech claims you can get all day use with just three minutes of charging. That might be why the micro USB cable it comes with is not long enough for much more than using it for charging. Another touted feature is the ability to use this single mouse to control up to three computers at the sametime. You can copy and paste and drag and drop files between computers. This might be useful in some cases but since this doesn’t also give you keyboard support I am not sure how often this would be needed. One feature I will be using is the Bluetooth support. That opens up being able to use the mouse with any Bluetooth devices like tablets and even your phone. Since it also comes with a separate receiver the Bluetooth support is a nice feature to have available. Overall I have mixed feelings about this mouse. It seems to do everything well but I don’t think it needed to be so big. This is probably not a mouse you want to travel with. And that's too bad because with this battery life, connection options and build quality it would make a perfect all purpose mouse. As just a mouse I would easy give it 5 stars. But the size makes me take a star away and I hate to do that because if you're not a traveler and the fit works for you this is a very nice addition to a professional or gaming workstation.

Nice gaming headset

I have been through a few gaming headsets over the last few years. I even bought the A50 wireless version of this same headset in the past and returned it due too technical issues. I am happy to say I have not had any problems with the A40. This is a solid headset with many fans. I do like this headset but I also have a few things I think could have been done better. I can't exactly say it's the best sounding headset but it's ok. I would have liked the alternate ear pads and stand to be included for the price. What I do like is the mini amp. That one piece that allows me too control the incoming mike volume just about makes up for the sound stage I think could be improved. And it did make setting up the headset very easy. But I am still waiting on the one headset that really does allow me too hear a true surround sound. But till that day these will do fine.

Samsung even gets the basics right

Samsung - POWERbot R7070 App-Controlled Self-Charging Robot Vacuum - Satin Titanium
The Samsung - POWERbot R7070 Robot Vacuum is a very interesting home appliance. On the one hand it has features that you will start to see more of as we move toward the IOT (Internet of Things). That includes Wi-Fi connectivity, Amazon Alexa compatibility and Samsung's own Smart Home App. And as typical of Samsung there is also full control on the actual front of the vacuum and they even includes a remote control. Take your pick on how to run, schedule and talk to this robot vacuum. It can be as simple as pushing a play button to checking on its status from almost anywhere you are. This type of control is going to be more common and Samsung is already a leader with there other connected appliances. And yes these features all work very well. The smartphone app supports both Android and IOS. Its full featured and will also control your other Samsung connected appliances if you have any.
It is easy to talk about the advanced connected features but what about the how well the vacuum works. In my experience there is mostly good things to say. First it’s very easy to care for. The dustbin pops out of the top with the push of a button and is easy to keep empty. It has an air filter that is easy to remove. Samsung also provides one replacement. I was especially happy that the cleaning brush can be removed. No belt drive on the cleaning brush to fight when your untangling all of the hair my main vacuum requires. So all good so far but now to how well it actually works. I have wood floors and some large rugs throughout my house. To test I cleaned my floors both with my main vacuum and also used our Swifter liquid cleaner mop. I wanted to have my floors as clean as possible to test what else it might pick up that I missed. So on the first run after a full charge it ran for around one and half hours. During that first run it got hung up on a rug in a small half bathroom. Can’t blame the vacuum for that as you do need to pick up the few items any vacuum would have trouble with. I fixed it and pushed the play button and it continued on ending back at its docking station just exactly how you would want it to. And it found a lot more debris than I expected it to. There are several options on the pattern it uses. I had it set to the most detailed pattern it supports. So now that I had very clean floors it was time to try the remote start. Before leaving the office I set it to go again. When I got home it was in the middle of a small room just sitting there and it wasn’t stuck on anything. It just ran out of battery and never made it back to the docking station to charge. That is a fail. The good news is I was again surprised on how much debri it picked up.
This is a fairly large vacuum. It clearly has the power to keep your floors clean. It can be as simple as pushing a button to start or you can setup the remote app and do the work anytime from almost anywhere you are. I don’t know why it ran out of battery in my initial testing since I didn’t watch it and it wasn't clear why it didn’t make it back to the docking station. In my later runs it has docked as expected. In other robot vacuums getting back to the docking station wasn’t always a sure thing. But feature rich and very capable it easily passes that test.

It's a darn shame to have to put a case on the Galaxy S8 line but both sides are glass. And no matter what other may think I expect to use this phone until its no longer gets security updates. Having said that I looked very hard for a case that wasn't to big but had a reputation for really giving about as good protection as one can expect without it being much bigger. I had a good case that almost fit the requirement but it fell short in two important ways. One is because of the curved glass it didn't offer any protection to the sides of the phone or at least not enough for me to feel good about it. Another was although everything said it had plenty of clearance to plug in USB cables I found that to be untrue. It wouldn't fit the USB Type C port adapter that Samsung shipped with the phone. How hard would that have been to test and get right. So I had to keep on looking. The Urban Armor Monarch series seems to hit all of the marks. The Samsung adapter fits, the sides don't interfere with the touch screen but offer some side protection and its not as big as I expected. So overall I am very happy with this case. I do have one complaint. I had heard the button on the Urban Armor cases were done very well. They are done OK but they are almost flush with the case and that makes them hard to find. If they were raised just a bit more they would be perfect. Although I don't typically drop my phone I feel this can take a beating. Its good looking, built very solid, has room for a screen protector if you want and shouldn't slip out of your hands.

did it char like an outdoor grill? Thinking about getting this since we can no longer have outdoor grills in our complex.
You could burn your food with this grill. But it less likely than an outdoor grill. Since it has one temperature you learn how not to to burn your food. There is no flame and since the grill is used inside its probably right next to you as your making the rest of the meal. That helps to keep track of the cooking unlike an outside grill.

I will be sending it to South Korea, should there be any issues?
It should work. It's just a streaming HDMI device with is a world standard. I don't know about the power supply but it probably works with right adapter for the plug format in that country.

Can I use tasker app on shild?
It is not available on the play store for Android TV but you maybe able to side load it. If you don't know what side loading is than using Tasker might be a bigger challenge. Anyway it can't hurt to try and a little research on the net should answer your question in more detail.

This looks a lot like a console, is it efficient with games like World of Warcraft, League of Legends, or Hearthstone?
You can stream these games directly from your PC if you have a good home network and your PC has a newer Nvidia video card.

Does this device play all android market games, or is it limited to certain types? Specifically Walking War Robots?
There are games in the Google play store that are just for the Android TV. On the Shield Nvidia also has a play store with many older and some new games. Finally you can stream PC games directly to your Shield if you also have an Nvidia video card. So there are many options but except for streaming from the PC don't expect to play the latest AAA titles.

Which is better for me, a surface 2 or 3 tablet, or a 2 in 1 Surface 3?
I have studied so many different options in the Microsoft surface and microsoft surface pro line and am still confused. My main objective is to effortlessly handle powerpoint presentations professionally without having to stand near a computer. I would also like to take family pictures or videos. Lastly, I would like to handle emails, do business research, store files for my small business, and work while I'm on the go on airplanes and in hotels.
I have a regular PC and an old laptop at home with Windows 7 operating system, and I have an IPhone. I own Microsoft Office 365, so I do not have to have a computer that has all the Office programs already installed. I am trying to save money, but I do not want to cut myself short for creating, storing and presenting all my PowerPoint presentations. I may even start making webinars. Please help.

The Surface Pro 3 is probably your better choice. You won't have any issues with it doing any office tasks. The Surface 3 would also work but for a business environment I think the Pro is a better choice. It also has Win 8 pro which can support encryption if you think that might be useful to you. It also has a bigger hard drive option then the Surface 3.

Can I watch Dish anywhere on a Surface 3 128GB
As long as you have a good enough connection and an active account with Dish it should work.

I want to use the surface 3 to work from home. Can I connect dual monitors? If so, how?
Since it has a micro display port I think you could daisy change other display port monitors. I know it does work with my 4K monitor at full resolution but at 30hz.

Can I use 4G on it?
Is it ready for 4G? If not can I do or buy anything so I can use 4G.
I think there will be a 4G version in the future. But you can always get a USB modem or use a separate hotspot device which is what I do. You connect to the hotspot with the wireless networking and it can work on any other device that supports a wireless connection.
