Meet the YubiKey by Yubico: the ultimate hardware security key for phishing-resistant multi-factor authentication (MFA). The YubiKey requires a physical touch to authenticate, eliminating the risk of remote attacks. The YubiKey functions by combining something you know (your password) with something you have (the physical YubiKey) to add an extra layer of security. Security is "Key"
on July 30, 2024
Posted by: Ebonovic
In our ever growing online world, your access to Social Media, Banking, Secure Systems, Work, are all under attack, and critical to keep safe.
2FA: 2 Factor Authentication, has been around for a long while, but now what is great, is that systems have added the ability to add multiple 2FA's, so you can continue to keep access to your systems, even if something is compromised, or you want to lock it down even more.
This simple USB and NFC device, provides that security key... in a physical form. Something you can keep in your possession, at home, in a safe, however you want to keep it and use it.
Out of the gate, I tested this with my Facebook account.
The website for the key, walks you through a video to tell you exactly how to add it to Facebook, and about 100 other services. If your service isn't on the list, that is okay. this all falls under a pretty consistent standard, so if your site/service supports Key 2FA, then you will be good to go to add it.
So back to adding to Facebook, I just went under security, and add a key..
I put the key in my USB port, tapped the button to activate it, and Facebook did the rest.
it was then simple to test by logging out, and logging back in... it prompted to use "another form of 2FA", since I have more then one. Key worked perfectly.
I have then added this to a couple other accounts really quickly.
As I go through my password rotations (changing the key ones), I will add the key.
It is also recommend that you have 2 keys (2 physical ones), because if you lose one, you could be permanently locked out of your accounts if you only setup 1 (in fact Apple will not let you set it up, unless you have two), so have that planned.
Other pro's, this is really small and really light.. which is good, but also a con... as it could be easy to lose. Add it to a lanyard, so you don't forget it, or lose it.
comes in USB-A and USB-C styles, get the right one for your computer.
Also the NFC is required if you want to use this with your mobile device.
I do wish they had color options available, so I can set one color as my primary key, and another as my backup key... but that is minor, nothing I can't fix with a paint pen or marker.
Spend the small amount of money to have this backup.
As someone that got hacked 18 months ago, and locked out of my Facebook... I wish I had this then so I could have easily gotten back in...
I would recommend this to a friend!

Get Charged....
on July 30, 2024
Posted by: Ebonovic
We all have devices, we all have charging needs.
We are finding more and more solutions, so we have a charge near by. This is a great LITTLE charger, that can really help while traveling, or just to have something compact.
First, out of the box, this is all USB-C. So if you are on some older Apple Tech, and still need a Lightening plug, or older Android devices on Micro-USB... out fo the box this will NOT work for you.
You can however, use the adapter part, if you purchase a USB-C -> Connector you need cable, from another vendor. So that is the first positive for this small charger, is that the cable is NOT attached to the brick part, so you have options.
Now for the cable provided, this is a NICE dense, and long cord. the ends of the cable are re-enforced, so they should be able to last a long while, with even some abuse and not so friendly usage.
The graded cable is really nice, as it avoids getting out twisted up, and actually damaging the inner wires. Comes with a nice Velcro organizing strap, so you can keep it bound.
The plug it self. Very small, will not take up your entire outlet, and the prongs, fold in, so it gets even more compact when putting in your backpack, or purse.
Charge wise... it provides the higher levels, to rapid charge most modern mobile devices. it isn't enough to rapidly charge a Mac-book, but it will slow-charge it (over night, or charge while not being used). Plenty of juice though for your phone, tablet, and other devices.
Good price option, with the quality of some of more of the expensive ones

Automation, Digital keys, what else can you want?
on July 29, 2024
Posted by: Ebonovic
I am not new to Digital Locks like this... I have used the August products for almost 5 years now. So adding this to my garage door, was just a perfect extension of our digital home.
So first... I was a bit confused when I first started the installation process, as I downloaded the YALE app, and it opened up... BUT!!! there was already a lock in it, and I was very familiar with the screen, so I had to go back and forth a couple times... to come to realize, that August and Yale must be the same company, or they at a minimum use the same app code. So, if you already have an August lock or possible another companies, don't get confused like me for a minute.
Installation: Will take give or take an hour depending on your comfort level with taking out a lock, checking the new spacing. MOST doors with in the last 30 years will probably be compatible right out of the gate, with nothing for you to do, then just install. But do take the time to double check everything. Yale gave a very handy measuring page, and step by step on what to check, and what to adjust based on how your door was setup. Mine was "standard", and I didn't have to make any adjustments, other then extend the deadbolt size with the simple twist (instructions walk you through it).
Taking my time, the most difficult part was actually putting the back side of the lock on, took me a few minutes to get everything lined up, and the lock stopped into place, and I had to go to the "next" page of the instructions to know where the screw was to hold it all together. But none the less, took me about 30 minutes to do the physical installation.
Digital setup: Very easy to walk through, step by step.. but you need to stay close to your lock.
Pro Tip: If you have multiple wifi networks in your house (like I do). Set your phone to the wifi network you want the lock attached to. The app won't ask what network you want to use. I have a dedicated IoT network in my house, so I had to switch my phone over to it.
Pro Tip #2: While the app will remind you when batteries are running low. Set a calendar entry for about 6 months from now, to change the batteries. That is the life I get on my August, and have to think that will be the same here. This way you won't get caught locked out.
First, the app will walk through physical calibration, this is the lock testing how far it has to go to unlock and lock the door. Easy simple.
Then it is going to walk you through setting up the Apple Wallet key... this is what I got the lock for, and it took a minute of frustration. 1) You can't scan the code they give you, since there is no QR on it. you will need to manually enter the code. 2) I had to do it three times, because I have so many devices in my house, I didn't see "Lock" was the new Yale lock. Wish it said Yale Lock.
Once setup, it added the digital lock to my wallet... so easy to tap and use now. Super cool.
Simple, just tap the phone and it opens.
Now the digit code... right in the app you set it up. This is going to be so useful when doing yard work, when I may not have my phone with me (I set this lock on my Garage). or if Lock myself out of the house, and my phone is inside.
So now I am setup....
Pro Tip #3: Consider changing your KNOB to one that doesn't have a lock on it.
I have learned the hard way that people may lock that bottom knob, and that then defeats the entire purpose of having a digital lock.
Pros: It is a digital lock, and all ready to rock and role. Simple Battery replacement, 4 AA batteries, nothing crazy, nothing recharging. Digital Wallet is a killer feature. WiFi options for remote opening when not at home.
Cons: The digital key pad for me is a little big. I wish it was maybe just a plane looking lock without the keys, and then the option for an emergency physical key use. with the keypad installable somewhere else... just an idea.
It is a bit bulky on the inside of the door. That may not be an issue for some, but if you are going for a super elegant look, this may not be the best option for you. PERFECT for me and the garage.
Some followup Tips:
Learn the features of the app, especially how to add family/friends to it. GREAT and easy way to "share a key" digitally, and can be full time, or just temporarily.
Able to remote open and close, (especially for a garage), allows me to let friends in, to grab a tool, and lock it again remotely. (I already do that on the garage door as well, but now have a second option).
And... when someone tells you that you are opening yourself up to hacking and people getting into your house. simply, remind them... it will take a LONG time of someone standing next to your door with a laptop and equipment to hack in... takes them just a few seconds to smash the window.
Enjoy your new lock

This is a Adult level scooter Minor fixable flaws
on June 15, 2024
Posted by: Ebonovic
So this is our second electric scooter, and this one is a BIG upgrade from the previous one.
Let's start with unpacking and setup. I HIGHLY recommend you have a 2nd person help unpack and setup. I did this as one person, and it was just a pain. There is some weight to the scooter, and the packing material is not minor. So things can go a lot smoother if you have a 2nd person.
Setup. Okay, after getting all the protective wrap off (becarefull not to scratch). Setting up the handle bar, may take a few minutes... 6 tiny screws. And you have to lineup the handle bar. They give you the proper Allen wrench, and the screws. Really simple and easy (don't forget to connect the wire before dropping the bar in place.
Next the charger.. BIG charging block. Make sure you have the space for the block, and that you can reach an outlet, and the scooter out of the way. I don't really care for the fact that it is up front in the kick plate, little awkward. I also don't like that it isn't a USB or some sort of more common connector. You could easily use a USB-C on a newer high Amp charging block, to be more universal (and so you can replace the adapter easy if lost). but not the end of the world, just something to make note off.
So let's get to the scooter a bit more... This is ROAD ready, with bright lights, break lights, turn signals... So you CAN go on the road, if your municipality allows it. Be Safe, wear a helmet and know the rules of the road if you do.
Once you look at the scooter, you see the HIGH end breaks that are on this thing. They are not tiny, and there is a reason for it. out of the gate, the scooter is limited in its speed, about 10mph. Get used to the weight and handling of this scooter, before you go put it in sport mode.
When you put it in sport mode, you are going to be able to move 25mph or more, depending not he size of the rider.. .at that speed, you can QUICKLY get hurt, if you are not safe and know what you are doing with he physics of this heavy scooter. Practice a lot on the slower speeds, and increase. But once you do... SOO much fun.
We have yet been able to kill the battery, as we just can't take it too far yet.. most it has gone in one session is about 10 mi (back and forth). And the battery isn't even 50% discharged after that. This scooter, is going to college in the fall...
It is a bit heavy, so make sure the rider knows how to fold and carry safely.
So now lets get to where there are something that NEED to be fixed. And that is with the companion app. So default, it is in KM. It will take you a while to find where to change the Scooter AND the app to show it all in MPH (the APP display, is hidden deep in the User settings, not the scooter). That was SOO frustrating for the first 2-3 days.
next, it has a great map to show you where you are, and where the scooter is.... BUT ONLY works if the scooter is in bluetooth range. Looking at the app, I was really thinking the scooter had beacon, like and AirTag, so we could keep track of it. No.
I do like that I an LOCK the scooter ,from the app. Not sure if I trust that entirely to keep it from being stolen, will be investing in a good lock for it before it is off to College this summer.
Last thing.. the "bell" cool addition, but it took a few tries to figure out how to work it properly.
I like the analog of it.. .but also would have liked to see a digital/electric horn/bell as well.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Really Great Sound... but just a tad off a perfect
on June 15, 2024
Posted by: Ebonovic
So if there was a way to go 4.5 stars, that is what I would give it.
There is just enough little things, that I can't do 5 starts. But let's get into it.
First up, in my setup, this Theater Bar is replacing a previous JVC Soundbar, with Subwoofer.
It was time to upgrade, because this is the room with the big 87" TV, and we are watching more and more there, then our theater space (which has the Dolby Atmos already)... so was super excited to put this one in.
So to use this the best you need a TV with ARC output on the HDMI, which I already had and knew about... so was ready to rock and role there.
So here is the first issue. Setup took WAY WAY too long, for what should have just been a swap of the old bar, with the new one. Why did it take long? Well you have to use an App, to configure and set it up. and to do that you need to setup an account. Sony's account setup was a major drag/pain. Too many prompts, too many questions. I am very adapt to seting up accounts, and mobile apps (I create them for a living), but this one was WAY WAY too clunky, and was really frustrating me.
Then after setting up the app, the app then has to connect to the bar, and basically register the BAR. Then the BAR, starts to run a communication test with the TV.. . and that was failing. I ended up having to disconnect the HDMI from both he BAR and the TV, and even then unplug and reboot my TV. then it would FINALLY pass that TV test. This was almost 30 minutes from start to finish. Yes, it is a one time thing, but super annoying and frustrating.
After getting that, then there is a series of setup and sound tests (about another 5ish minutes). So from unboxing to ready to watch TV.
Once going... Very enjoyable to hear the Dolby Atmos. Did several sample videos, then got into some of my favorite content (like current Disney+ shows), and so much fun to hear the immersive sound. Clear, quality, and just fun to be immersed.
The BAR will turn on and off with the TV, so you don't have to fumble with the remote or the app to turn the bar on and off, so that works great.
The next nit pick: With my previous bar, volume up on the TV remote, and it would increment the audio on the bar 5% approx. With this bar, it is approx 1% each click, and takes a LONG time to increase or decrease any amount of significants. This is frustrating when shows change volume, not enough to be a deal breaker and could be how it communicates with my LG TV, but just frustrating enough.
Lastly, I thought that this 13 speaker bar, would have SOME Base in the bar itself ( I knew it didnt' come with a separate one, and that is what I was hoping for), but the Base quality in the bar itself, is very low. So I will have to eventually add one of the wireless sub-woofers. to get the full sound that I want.
So overal, very good quality... some nitpicks, not perfect. But absolutely love the Dolby Atmos and the improved overall sound over my previous JVC... and certainly better then the built in speaker in the TV.

Multi Function, Multi Results
on May 28, 2024
Posted by: Ebonovic
So our household has a lot of printers... Laster Color, Laser B&W, a sublimation, and a couple ink jets... so why another... Well, we only have one with a scanner... and we have found ourself more often needing the ability to scan, away from the main office of the house. So time for a new printer.
So let's get right into setup, easy. Standard stuff. Remove all the packaging, get it plugged in, and then walk through he straight forward steps of adding to WiFi. No one should have any issues getting it up and on the network.
Once on the network, finishing up printer setup on various computers, easy. We have both Macs and PCs and both were able to connect and get going, we did scanning first on the Macs, and that was just smooth and simple, and able to save as Image files as well as PDFs.
The Automatic feeding tray is great if you have more then 1 or 2 pages, it is just like a copy machine feeder.
Per the documents, it can print on CDs/DVDs, but that is a feature I will never use again, long left that platform and style. The SD slot is okay for those with digital cameras using physical media. But it was easy to print from our iPhones. There is a companion app available ,that helps you with more features, but found it straight forward just to use the built in print features.
100 page tray, smaller then some... I miss the days of a larger printer that could take the entire reem of paper, but 100 isn't bad.
Clear colors, good detail, and relatively quick. not the fastest, but certainly not slow by any means.
Simple duplex printing, to save paper, or make it booklet style.
The docs say it will support 11x17 printing, but I don't have any of that paper handy anymore (sold that printer), but looking forward to testing it. 12x12 is also listed for the traditional size of memory books.
Good printer for the price point... But partially holding out verdict to see how far the OEM and the replacement print cartridges take me. However, it does use a relatively common ink cart, not a new one, so there are a lot of options available.

Get your game on, and improved
on April 24, 2024
Posted by: Ebonovic
For most of us hack-a-golfers, we are looking for ways to get better and enjoy more.
Many of the options out there are either gimmick or hacks, that just don't work.
This is NOT one of them, this can lead to more fun and improving your game.
No more need to just get a bucket, and wack away at the driving range.
Using this, you can get REAL data, to help you with what you want to work with. You can get more accurate picture of your hit, especially if you are at a facility with short nets or inside a dome.
Setup was relatively easy. Took some time to adjust, and get aligned but after you get it... easier the next time as well. Cordless, with as best I can tell, a very long life battery, haven't been able to nix it yet.
Shows the distance, Direction, Speed, Spin and some other key stats... that you can compare swing after swing, to see how you are doing, or what that 1 adjustment did compared to the previous swings.
Simple remote to help control options and modes... that snaps right back into the unit so it won't get lost.
Blend in your personal phone or tablet, and you can setup a tripod, and collect not only the data from the unit, but also the actual capture of your swing... so you can look at everything... or take it to a pro (or someone you trust) and look at your practice session and get advice on what to do next time.
Big plus: it is relatively small, easy to put in your bag and carry with you when you ar headed out to the range.
Downside... for the price, it should have came with at least a soft/slip cover protection on it. There is an external carry case you can purchase.
So far I have used this primarily for my practice sessions on the range, only have a few sessions in so far, as the weather is still in flux.
Now starting to make plans to build an indoor practice space for my garage, so I can practice when I quickly have some time, now that I can get stats like this. And of course then I can play the virtual golf round, by connecting a laptop and a TV to that laptop.
The possibilities are going to be great, with out breaking the bank.
This would make a GREAT Mother's and Father's Day gift, for the golfer in your family.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Fantastic
on April 24, 2024
Posted by: Ebonovic
Okay... out with the skullcandy, and onto these... Absolutely fantastic.
Very light weight for an over the ear headphone. The noise reduction on these (aka before you even turn them on), is really good. I was trying these out on a Southwest Airlines flight, and just putting them on knocked out a LOT of the cabin noise, engine noise, and passengers noise.
Powering on... and it was almost all gone, very very good in a noisy environment.
Now for the sound. I primarily used these to listen to video content via my iPad. Super easy to connect, showed up right away on the blue-tooth list, tap and connected.
it is smart enough to trigger and prompt for the companion app to be installed (surprised though that the app was over 100mb). Got that up and was able to make some minor tweaks and adjustments, as well as check status.
Charging super easy with the USB-C plug, and wire provided.
Case is sleek and just big enough, not a lot of fluff... so gave me some room back in my backpack.
Very very good set of headphones for the work traveler

Great in many ways, just missed the mark in a few
on April 22, 2024
Posted by: Ebonovic
So was excited at the possibilities for this frame. And in many ways it was really good, but it just missed a few things, that I think would have made this a must have for any music lover.
First with the Good:
AMAZING.. just AMAZING sound out of this unit. It surpasses several really good bluetooth speaker systems I have. Deep sounding base. Clear and crisp. And has really good volume for some this "relatively" small. If you don't have an audio system in a room, this speaker will make for a really good source of audio. From Bon Jovi, to Greatest Showman, to some great soundtracks on other movies... just amazing.
I used mine with the stand, as I wanted it on a table. Super easy to just snap in the stand, no screws, just slide and snap and is solid.
Loved that added care was put to make the power cord a silver color, helps it look better and blend in then a flat black cord. Very long.. should easily be able hide and blend on tables. On a wall installation, if you don't want to hid the wire in the wall (it is long enough too, but you will have to picture holes and fish it (so use caution). you will be able to flush mount, since they did put the connector in a way that it doesn't stick out.
Relatively easy to add to my existing SmartThings app, I had to refresh a couple times, but was able to get it added.
now swinging towards the downs on the unit.
Alexa integration.. I am still not sure what is actually integrated. I set it up, but in my Alexa app, doesn't show the normal settings. Especially the keyword change, as I have several in the room.
Heavy... this is a lot heavier than I expected it to be. So while the helps on the table, won't get knocked over easily, but on the wall I fear that this is really going to be a risk of it coming down, if you are not very diligent in your mounting and use what is provided, use care/caution when you are mounting.
Uses a special adapter and plug. While I gave praise to the silver cable, I am still surprised this wasn't a usb-c cable connection, so you can have an endless amount of options.
So those added up to about a .5 deduction.
A full .5 deduction: When I first saw this, I thought it would be PERFECT to display an album and record itself, as the "framed" item. Such as some of the awesome collectable records from Mondo and other places. Or if you had a special album that you wanted to highlight in your collection. While you can play the music, I can't find a way to mount an album in the frame easily without possibly gluing to the album itself, and that would damage it. I hope someone can come out with an easy kit to do it, or maybe a 3D print. For me that was a big miss.
Lastly a full 1 star deduction.
You have to play audio from another device and control it via another device.
It is just a bluetooth speaker (or connect to Optical or other source). With WiFi connectivity and smart device integration, I really thought that this unit could get playback from other source, and play with a push of a button. Again going with my above "feature album" thought, would be awesome for it to just be able to play, without having to keep a phone, tablet ,or other device close enough for the song source.
Even maybe an SD card slot, so I can load up a playlist... Unless the instructions are not clear, or there is a way, I can't find it.
So to recap:
ABSOLUTELY Amazing Sound quality
Easy to setup, and multiple options
Could use better smart device integration.
Just missed the mark to use as a show piece for your favorite and prized albums.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

A Great/Thin powerhouse
on April 6, 2024

Okay, here is the deal... I am old enough to remember when you need a powerhouse of a laptop, you didn't need to go to the gym to workout, just carry your laptop around. That is no longer the case.
This laptop has a massive sized screen for a portable system, clear... crystal clear, beautiful colors and plenty of space for gaming, development, or work... what ever.
Edge to edge, fast repose screen, shows everything you need..
Powered by Windows 11, you get the common interface right out of the box that we are accustomed too, and all the abilities to install your games, productivity software. Office is already loaded, so if you have it on your Windows Account already (Office 365 subscription) it immediately identifies that and you are good to go.
Fast... I was able to get blazing fast WiFi speeds on my home network (that supports WiFi6, so ws getting 500+mbs, so my game downloads were great. So far only tried some of our tried and true STEAM based games, and they all played without a hiccup. Easy to add our bluetooth controllers.
This is super thin for a laptop, probably thiner than my MacBook Pro. The power supply isn't outrageously big, but the batter last for a good long while. So you may be able to go a good amount of time without a charge, depending on your usage. I don't like that it is still a pin style charger port, but you do have the USB-C's that can all be used to charge the laptop.
This is going to be great as we head into the summer months, so I can take this to my extended camping trips, and still stay connected to do some work, entertainment, and other things... without taking a bunch of space.
ASUS has been a great manufacturer for a long time, and this one certainly seems to keep their standards high, and will give us multiple years of usage.
The only downside, which is common nowadays... don't plan on upgrading this. No obvious means to quickly do any type of updating. So make sure you are getting the memory and storage space you want. Storage space can always be done via USB-C, but that is still external.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Incorrect info. No 3D
By Leroythedog
I was already to buy this TV- seems to be GREAT price!
BUT - IT DOES NOT HAVE 3D. Luckily, this was pointed out by the salesman. He told me that he had even called Samsung to check, and there is a misprint in the specifications,
If you don't want 3D, this would be great, but it doesn't work for me.

3D Ready

Per Samsung's site, it states as 3D Ready.
Which means you just need the other equipment (separate), glasses, Blu-ray player, and material source
Glasses are about $20 each.
But the TV is a 3D compatible TV

Is it worth the Ninja Coffee Bar Thermal Carafe System, Stainless Carafe (CF 097) over the CF091? The CF091 has a glass carafe than can stay heated in the warming plate vs the CF097 that has a thermal carafe. Trying to decide if it's worth the extra $$

That really depends on what you are going to use the Thermal carafe for... if you are going to take it with you, or travel... or take it and put it out on a table... then yah... it would e worth it. But if you are really never going to move the Carafe from the heating pad, except to pour... then no need.

Does it have dual cooling fans?

There are multiple vents, that would make it seem like there is more than one fan... but short of taking it apart, I can't confirm that

Does anyone know the direct tv remote code?

It uses the standard Samsung remote code... What DIRECTV remote are you using? The newer remotes (rounded, smaller)... will auto setup through the STB.

Else you can try going to: http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/content/remote_codes2 to find the codes
