Sleek, Slim, powerful

This has become the PERFECT blender for our small appliance heavy counter.
We are not overly crammed for space, but the counter is getting filled: Air Fryer, Pressure Cooker, Coffee Pot, and full sized BLENDER.
This Portable Blender is great for multiple reasons, first the important ones.
It makes pre-made smoothies and even custom smoothies easily, quick simple push button, right into a usable cup. Easy. Small nock on the placement of the latch, but overall not an issue. There are times I wish there was more than one cup for it, so we can blend and drink... and then blend another for someone else. (instead of blending, pouring into another cup, washing, then the next one).
We have used it multiple times, while not plugged in, and well the battery life is good, but we haven't pushed it, and it still retains all it's power, as compared to when it is plugged in.
The fact that the adapter fits IN the cup, makes this really easy to store and put away, and travel with when necessary. The slim design also is GREAT on the counter, as I mentioned earlier. it is 1/3rd the size of a traditional Ninja blender, and takes up little space (it even tucks behind the curves of the pressure pot, taking up even less space.

What is Old is New Again
on October 10, 2024

End of day... its a Vinyl record player... If you are of a certain age, you know what that means. Vinyls have made a comeback over the last 5 years or so, and growing every day. Having purchased a re-print of Prince's Purple Rain album, just to have it... It was about time to have a player to play it.
Out of the box, this took about 5 minutes to setup. Turntable onto the unit, a little stretch of one belt onto the motor, and you are ready to go.
I used the bluetooth connection, and this is where it lost .25 star.
I found the blind bluetooth binding challenging, maybe it was my speaker as well, but it took several attempts for the player and the speaker to pair up. And I seem to have to do it every time we turn it on. But once it is connected, it is great. As an alternative, you can use "classic" analog Red/White RCA plugs to connect to a speaker or amplifier.
Usage is super simple, set your speed (supports both common speeds), and the size of record (both common sizes supported). Place your record on the turn table, and hit play. The armature will go to the start of the album, and will start to play, and sound AMAZING.
You can easily lift and place the needle (Stylus) if you want to jump to a specific track.
The sound is clear... the sound is rich and deep. Love it.
It brings a little bit of the magic back of playing an album from start to finish.
So here is where we lose just another .5 star.
It is not AT ALL vibration tolerant. Yes, any record player is going to skip or not play smooth if there is too much vibration. But this one is so sensitive that even walking on the floor, or closing a drawer (not hard), caused it to skip.
The last .25 lost, the unit has a very plastic and lightweight feel to it. There is not much to it. For some that may be a good thing, but for us, it just gave it a feeling of it is just another device. Not the central focus of a sound system that record players used to be. It is a nit pick, but it is how we felt about it.
Since getting the player, we have pulled out the few records that my wife had at her parents home (1980's classics and soundtracks), I have been buying many re-print collector albums that are beautiful to look at. and then some newer movie soundtrack albums.
As the market continues to grow, looking forward to buying more albums. And what is nice, is several vendors are then also offering instant digital versions as well, so we can use some of the modern music devices as well.

Good, Simple, Basic, Inkjet Printer
on October 2, 2024
Posted by: Ebonovic
Even in our more and more digital world, we still need to print things out.
A simple document to sign, or a nice copy of the latest picture we took. So as much as we try, still can't get rid of having a printer in the house.
This is a small, low costing printer, that even for the tightest of budgets or space, should fit the bill.
Setup is very straight forward.
While it has support for a direct USB Cable, I opted for the WiFi option, so I can just store this printer not he shelf, and not worry about connecting my laptop to print, plus going WiFi allows me to print from my phone.
Easy to walk through and add to your WiFi. You can also download the HP Smart app to your mobile phone, to access some of the more advanced settings, features, get printer status, etc. It is a nice app, that if you have more then one modern HP printer on your network, you can see them all segmented.
So this is where I get to my full 1 star off. HP is doing their darnedest to lock you into their Ink. That is where they are making their money not his one. The printer is low cost, but the ink cost depending on how much you use, can start to add up. hey have the HP+ subscription service, where the printer will talk to the network and send you ink, when it thinks it is running low.
Not overly costly, but it can add up, so be sure you are aware.
The picture quality which is always my test for an inkjet is on par with today's printer. Good crisp, not overly dark, and it didn't saturate the paper too much on a large print. photo's on photo paper were very nice, and frame able.
Relatively quiet print, not a lot of moving pieces or the printer winding up to start printing, so for those late night reports you shouldn't wake up the entire family.
So this printer would be good for a college student, someone tight on space, or maybe as just that one that sits up near the living area, instead of the bigger one that is off in an office or somewhere else in the house.

Slick, Sleek, Lightweight, and Powerful

Almost razor thin laptop, one of the thinnest I have seen. Super light, and ready to go not he move. Able to take the power of Windows 11 (won't be reviewing Windows 11, too many other articles on that).
24gb of memory is an abundance for most users. Average games play well, office suite works fast and quick. Responsive. While not upgradable, the vast majority of users should never find the need too.
16" screen is MASSIVE for a laptop, on average 1" bigger then most other screens in this classy hat is a lot of extra space for those that are working on designs, spreadsheets, and even games. Deep resolution on it, allows for very clear presentation. Bright colors, deep contrasts.
Above average Battery life for a windows based system... have been able to run for 10+ hours, without having to find the adapter.
Keyboard. Lacking a number pad, is fine for some... problematic for others... If you use it regularly, you will miss it... but, there are third party options for those that need.
Camera is good for most meetings and basic usage, but if you are a pod-caster, consider a dedicated external camera so you can get the better lighting and angle.
And yes.. my pet feature on all laptops. It uses a standard USB-C style charger, so that you can readily get cords, and replacement adapters, and can use soo many options out there, and travel easy with it.
No built in network port (fine for its size), and you have the option to add a hardline via USB-C adapter. Great WiFi 6 connectivity and getting the full speed on that connection.

Click-Click, well maybe not

So overall this is a solid keyboard, and a good option for those looking of a mechanical keyboard for the game play and overall usage.
The lighting options, and replaceable keys, so you can really configure this to your liking is a key option that is just a lot of fun.
For a mechanical keyboard, found that the feedback was not high... there was some, but not at a high level, which then led to a more softer sound. So good for some, but I am an old school person, and really like the click and the feedback... But it is totally subjective.
Standard connectivity options to your system, and as best I can tell... near instant response by the system, which is what you like about a hard wire connection. And as you can imagine, not much to setup here to get it going and connected.. connect and you have the initial connection so you can use it.
Size is good, fits on my keyboard trey, with no issues..
Software is very easy to install and use.
Also having the full keyboard... I tried in the past, to get rid of the numeric... just don't like it. so glad this one has the numeric keys as well.

Sleek, Light, Large Screen, Near Great Laptop
on August 20, 2024
Posted by: Ebonovic
My out of the box impression: OOHHH A Windows powered laptop, that is going to give MacBook a run for it's money physically... (yes, I am aware of the massive difference between the two OS).
This laptop right out of the box, is sleek. Very thin, super light, but still ha a very very big screen. Just a couple mm short of being totally edge to edge, you are not going to get much more closer.
Full touch screen, and was very responsive. I use it almost exclusively in laptop mode.
Comes with a full keyboard (aka, includes the number pad... one thing that is often pulled when trying to shrink a laptop size. Large responsive touch pad for mouse functionality.
And YES!!! YES!!... it is a USB-C driven power supply. No custom power supply. A tiny (approx 3"x3"x1" power adapter, with a standard run-of-the-mill USB-C to USB-C wire. Super portable. and if you need a second or third for your travel backpack, or destination usage... 100's of quality options to choose from, at reasonable prices.
Standard HDMI port, and 2 USB-C ports, and one USB style port. The one nitpick I have, is that there isn't a USB-C on the right side... So depending on where your power supply position is, could need just a tiny bit longer cord.
Bright screen, having no issues seeing or reading from it.
I haven't physically opened the laptop, not going to. But there is no indication that this is upgradeable later on. so what you buy is what you are going to get. I could be wrong, but I am not going exploring as this is very thin, I suspect that it is a custom part layout. So that is +/- in my book. Love the thin and light weight, but also don't like that I can't fix or upgrade components.
Windows 11 is pre-built, and isn't a custom version. So one go much into that aspect, as you should know what you are getting.. Windows 11.
Response time is great, super quick. The hardware doesn't fill over power.
Very quick Wireless network response. I would like a wired network port, but I understand the size. So a simple USB-C dongle will work when I need the wired connection.
This is a great option for a new college student, should have plenty of power to last the full 4 years of college. or a travel worker... needing to do work on the go, or in multiple locations, won't weigh down the bag, and going to give you want you need.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Just off the mark, Software Issues
on August 5, 2024
Posted by: Ebonovic
It's been a long while since I had a Radar/Laser detector... I remember how big these were int he 80's and 90's... And with a lot of travel coming up, it was a good opportunity to try it out. We had 4 long highway trips over the last two weeks, logged over 1,000 miles
First and foremost, this gets 1 full star deduction for the supported software,
.5 Star deduction because nothing I tried... I could not get the Drive Smarter app, to create an account, and thus let us in to use the Apple Car Play features (which is one of the big key reasons I was excited for this device). Continued to fail for several days. Will update review, if we do get into the app.
.5 Star deduction because the Escort software, was just... non-helpful. Yes, you were able to get in and configure the device, colors, the units, and several other settings, for those that really are adapt, can tweak this to exactly what they want. but after that, it really didn't do anything that the unit itself didn't do. The Escort app is not Car Play compatible, so did nothing for my navigation on the screen of the car.
Since these are outside the hardware, these can get updated and do better over time, I hope.
Now for the unit... The picture, is mis leading... this is bigger then the picture makes it seem. Longer. Which isn't "bad" unless you have a smaller windshield. My SUV, has a big windshield, so while it was in the view, didn't dominate, but on my smaller car, this may be an issue (but wasn't able to use it in that car, more later).
The suction cup mount that comes with the kit, worked very well.. once you get the orientation correct. The unit didn't move after hours of usage, and heat beating down on the windshield.
Easy power on and off, (with the provided 12v cord), with an easy to reach mute button on the power cord, with lights. nice touch.
can be a loud unit, or as soft as you want, so that is adjustable to your preference.
Now, as for detecting. I don't know... If the police where not out much on our trips, but the unit did do a VERY good job of picking up from almost 1/2 mile away, construction zone radar sensors... so I would presume it would also do as well on police.
During our drives we only encountered 2 or 3 confirmed police radar checks (because we saw them as we drove by). However, only concern I have, is that we drove directly by a Hwy patrol car, in the middle median (twice, once there and once back). but no warning on the detector. But obviously no way to confirm, if this was just a decoy car and had no laser/tracking, or was something else.
Now for my other 1 star deduction.
My 2023 Outback, has no 12v plug. So went to go and use the USB power supply on this. Nothing I tried would get it to work, would continue to say low-voltage and power down.
My outback has a 2.1a USB-C port right on it, and it would not power this unit. I tried several different plugs I have, that can power iPad Pro's with no problem, still no work.
I didn't try the plug for my MacBook, because that would be beyond impractical in my car, as I would have to run a long car to my backseat.
So that was a disappointment, that a modern piece of tech, was having difficulty with the USB-C power options, in a modern car.
So overall... not terrible, just not the experience I was hoping for with this premium product.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Security is "Key"
on July 30, 2024
Posted by: Ebonovic
In our ever growing online world, your access to Social Media, Banking, Secure Systems, Work, are all under attack, and critical to keep safe.
2FA: 2 Factor Authentication, has been around for a long while, but now what is great, is that systems have added the ability to add multiple 2FA's, so you can continue to keep access to your systems, even if something is compromised, or you want to lock it down even more.
This simple USB and NFC device, provides that security key... in a physical form. Something you can keep in your possession, at home, in a safe, however you want to keep it and use it.
Out of the gate, I tested this with my Facebook account.
The website for the key, walks you through a video to tell you exactly how to add it to Facebook, and about 100 other services. If your service isn't on the list, that is okay. this all falls under a pretty consistent standard, so if your site/service supports Key 2FA, then you will be good to go to add it.
So back to adding to Facebook, I just went under security, and add a key..
I put the key in my USB port, tapped the button to activate it, and Facebook did the rest.
it was then simple to test by logging out, and logging back in... it prompted to use "another form of 2FA", since I have more then one. Key worked perfectly.
I have then added this to a couple other accounts really quickly.
As I go through my password rotations (changing the key ones), I will add the key.
It is also recommend that you have 2 keys (2 physical ones), because if you lose one, you could be permanently locked out of your accounts if you only setup 1 (in fact Apple will not let you set it up, unless you have two), so have that planned.
Other pro's, this is really small and really light.. which is good, but also a con... as it could be easy to lose. Add it to a lanyard, so you don't forget it, or lose it.
comes in USB-A and USB-C styles, get the right one for your computer.
Also the NFC is required if you want to use this with your mobile device.
I do wish they had color options available, so I can set one color as my primary key, and another as my backup key... but that is minor, nothing I can't fix with a paint pen or marker.
Spend the small amount of money to have this backup.
As someone that got hacked 18 months ago, and locked out of my Facebook... I wish I had this then so I could have easily gotten back in...
I would recommend this to a friend!

Get Charged....
on July 30, 2024
Posted by: Ebonovic
We all have devices, we all have charging needs.
We are finding more and more solutions, so we have a charge near by. This is a great LITTLE charger, that can really help while traveling, or just to have something compact.
First, out of the box, this is all USB-C. So if you are on some older Apple Tech, and still need a Lightening plug, or older Android devices on Micro-USB... out fo the box this will NOT work for you.
You can however, use the adapter part, if you purchase a USB-C -> Connector you need cable, from another vendor. So that is the first positive for this small charger, is that the cable is NOT attached to the brick part, so you have options.
Now for the cable provided, this is a NICE dense, and long cord. the ends of the cable are re-enforced, so they should be able to last a long while, with even some abuse and not so friendly usage.
The graded cable is really nice, as it avoids getting out twisted up, and actually damaging the inner wires. Comes with a nice Velcro organizing strap, so you can keep it bound.
The plug it self. Very small, will not take up your entire outlet, and the prongs, fold in, so it gets even more compact when putting in your backpack, or purse.
Charge wise... it provides the higher levels, to rapid charge most modern mobile devices. it isn't enough to rapidly charge a Mac-book, but it will slow-charge it (over night, or charge while not being used). Plenty of juice though for your phone, tablet, and other devices.
Good price option, with the quality of some of more of the expensive ones
I would recommend this to a friend!

Automation, Digital keys, what else can you want?
on July 29, 2024
Posted by: Ebonovic
I am not new to Digital Locks like this... I have used the August products for almost 5 years now. So adding this to my garage door, was just a perfect extension of our digital home.
So first... I was a bit confused when I first started the installation process, as I downloaded the YALE app, and it opened up... BUT!!! there was already a lock in it, and I was very familiar with the screen, so I had to go back and forth a couple times... to come to realize, that August and Yale must be the same company, or they at a minimum use the same app code. So, if you already have an August lock or possible another companies, don't get confused like me for a minute.
Installation: Will take give or take an hour depending on your comfort level with taking out a lock, checking the new spacing. MOST doors with in the last 30 years will probably be compatible right out of the gate, with nothing for you to do, then just install. But do take the time to double check everything. Yale gave a very handy measuring page, and step by step on what to check, and what to adjust based on how your door was setup. Mine was "standard", and I didn't have to make any adjustments, other then extend the deadbolt size with the simple twist (instructions walk you through it).
Taking my time, the most difficult part was actually putting the back side of the lock on, took me a few minutes to get everything lined up, and the lock stopped into place, and I had to go to the "next" page of the instructions to know where the screw was to hold it all together. But none the less, took me about 30 minutes to do the physical installation.
Digital setup: Very easy to walk through, step by step.. but you need to stay close to your lock.
Pro Tip: If you have multiple wifi networks in your house (like I do). Set your phone to the wifi network you want the lock attached to. The app won't ask what network you want to use. I have a dedicated IoT network in my house, so I had to switch my phone over to it.
Pro Tip #2: While the app will remind you when batteries are running low. Set a calendar entry for about 6 months from now, to change the batteries. That is the life I get on my August, and have to think that will be the same here. This way you won't get caught locked out.
First, the app will walk through physical calibration, this is the lock testing how far it has to go to unlock and lock the door. Easy simple.
Then it is going to walk you through setting up the Apple Wallet key... this is what I got the lock for, and it took a minute of frustration. 1) You can't scan the code they give you, since there is no QR on it. you will need to manually enter the code. 2) I had to do it three times, because I have so many devices in my house, I didn't see "Lock" was the new Yale lock. Wish it said Yale Lock.
Once setup, it added the digital lock to my wallet... so easy to tap and use now. Super cool.
Simple, just tap the phone and it opens.
Now the digit code... right in the app you set it up. This is going to be so useful when doing yard work, when I may not have my phone with me (I set this lock on my Garage). or if Lock myself out of the house, and my phone is inside.
So now I am setup....
Pro Tip #3: Consider changing your KNOB to one that doesn't have a lock on it.
I have learned the hard way that people may lock that bottom knob, and that then defeats the entire purpose of having a digital lock.
Pros: It is a digital lock, and all ready to rock and role. Simple Battery replacement, 4 AA batteries, nothing crazy, nothing recharging. Digital Wallet is a killer feature. WiFi options for remote opening when not at home.
Cons: The digital key pad for me is a little big. I wish it was maybe just a plane looking lock without the keys, and then the option for an emergency physical key use. with the keypad installable somewhere else... just an idea.
It is a bit bulky on the inside of the door. That may not be an issue for some, but if you are going for a super elegant look, this may not be the best option for you. PERFECT for me and the garage.
Some followup Tips:
Learn the features of the app, especially how to add family/friends to it. GREAT and easy way to "share a key" digitally, and can be full time, or just temporarily.
Able to remote open and close, (especially for a garage), allows me to let friends in, to grab a tool, and lock it again remotely. (I already do that on the garage door as well, but now have a second option).
And... when someone tells you that you are opening yourself up to hacking and people getting into your house. simply, remind them... it will take a LONG time of someone standing next to your door with a laptop and equipment to hack in... takes them just a few seconds to smash the window.
Enjoy your new lock
I would recommend this to a friend!

Incorrect info. No 3D

I was already to buy this TV- seems to be GREAT price!
BUT - IT DOES NOT HAVE 3D. Luckily, this was pointed out by the salesman. He told me that he had even called Samsung to check, and there is a misprint in the specifications,
If you don't want 3D, this would be great, but it doesn't work for me.

Per Samsung's site, it states as 3D Ready.
Which means you just need the other equipment (separate), glasses, Blu-ray player, and material source
Glasses are about $20 each.
But the TV is a 3D compatible TV
