Better than I was expecting

I read a lot of reviews of the Yoga 720 13 inch in which people complained mostly about fan noise, followed by battery life. I actually bought the HP Spectre x360 first due to those reviews, but returned it due to unhappiness with its trackpad. I then took a chance on the Yoga 720, and am very happy with my purchase.
I did initially have the same fan noise complaints - those fans were painfully loud - but after advice from other users online I made two tweaks. First, update to the latest bios (at this time that is 1.05). That update appears to reduce the fan noise when the laptop is under peak load. Second, download the free application "Notebook Fan Control" and choose the "Yoga 2 13" as the profile. That application prevents the fans from kicking in as frequently as they do by default. The net result of these two changes is I have a laptop which stays plenty cool with limited and very acceptable fan noise. I also think my battery life has improved, as I'm getting real world 8 hours of usage with screen near full brightness.
As for the laptop itself - it's great. Very good build quality. I was concerned that constantly grabbing the screen to fold it back in tablet mode would result in issues with the screen, but this unit appears very solid. The keyboard is pleasant to type on, the trackpad is wonderfully smooth and responsive, and the display looks good to me (although it is a bit dimmer than the Spectre x360). I am finding myself using this laptop more on the go than I have with previous ones (which just sat in a docking station) due to its flexible use as a tablet or laptop. While most of these flip screen ones are too heavy for actual tablet use, this one feels ok.
Overall two thumbs up for the Yoga 720 13 inch model. The Spectre x360 gets all the accolades, but as someone who owned both I honestly prefer the 720. The Spectre x360 does have better battery life, speakers, and display brightness. But the 720 has a better trackpad, and Lenovo's track record for build quality exceeds HP. I think this is the 13" convertible laptop to get.
