This is my first non-wall charger. Not all that impressed, since I seem to be charging the charger more than my phone (S6 Edge). I have yet to charge my phone completely with this, without the charger being drained. I got it so I don't have to carry a wall charger everywhere at work, though, so it works for that purpose. I wouldn't recommend if you're planning on only using this; use the wall charger. Plus it only comes with android compatible cable, so iphone users would have to use their current cable or purchase a seperate one.

I don't know much about speakers, but for my purposes, this is perfect. I have a nice sony clock/radio/play music from your "i" device device, but its only for "i" devices and i switched to android. So, I've been looking for something similar; can't seem to find it. This is the next best thing. You can take it anywhere, you're phone just has to have bluetooth and you're good.

does this need to be plugged in or battery powered

It's got a rechargeable battery and comes with a charging cable. Battery seems to last if you turn it off when not using it.
