Budget Gaming Laptop with some issues

The Acer Nitro 5 AN515-53-55G9 gaming laptop packs some good features inside it at a very good price, but also has some issues that hold it back. I fall on the side of recommending this laptop, barely. I will start with the features I liked. The Intel 8th generation CPU is very powerful and handled everything I threw at it very well. I expected nothing less. The GPU is also quality, and it is nice to see a nVIDIA 10 series dedicated graphics card at this price in a gaming laptop. Games, including VR games, worked very well with this unit. I also liked the look and feel of this laptop. Usually, gaming laptops have bright colors and shiny logos that mark them out as gaming rigs. This laptop has a matte black lid with a metallic black logo, and has a deep burgandy accent color. The lid felt very sturdy. The rest of the body felt like typical laptop plastic, but seemed durable enough. It booted up very quickly with a minimum of bloatware. I was impressed that it came with fan control software from Acer right out of the box. The keyboard was very typical, if maybe a little tight for larger hands, and the letters are backlit in red. The plate does come off of this unit very easily, which would allow for easy access to upgrade the laptop if desired. Now for some features that I did not like about this unit. It became very hot in a quick amount of time under normal conditions, and I am not certain why. It has 2 cooling fans, which were operating quite loudly, but they didn't seem to make an impact. This can be mitigated with a cooling pad to some degree, but it is something for which to be aware. I used a cooling pad after a little bit of usage, but the unit still became hot enough that I had to set it aside after about an hour. Another issue with the loud fans was that the speaker location toward the bottom of the unit became drowned out by the loud fan usage. Again, this could be mitigated with noise-cancelling headphones but is quite irritating if you don't use headphones often. The display looked very nice but was a bit dim even on high brightness settings. This would be OK in a dim environment but it was hard to see the screen when used outside. Finally, the battery lasted an unusually short time. Gaming laptops rarely have great battery usage due to the power-hungry components, so I took that into consideration. But even doing mundane tasks and internet surfing drained the batter in about 5 hours. Obviously, when gaming the battery drains even faster, about 90 minutes. In summary, this laptop has some great components inside and has an excellent price but as an experienced laptop gamer there were some serious issues to contend with, too. If you often game while using a cooling pad, headphones, and while plugged in, these issues might not be a big deal.

The Sony SRS-XB41 is a high-quality portable speaker that is extremely versatile. It is suitable for just about everywhere: bookshelf, house party, open room, outdoors, pool/beach. Mine was black and covered with a fabric that was easy to dust off and clean. It has a similar profile to other portable speakers and is unobtrusive in most locations. I used it mainly to stream music from my Android phone, and the music sounded very nice. There was a nice combination of high-range, mid-range, and bass. The unit has a Live Sound button that produced the most balanced sound for my taste. It felt I could hear music clearly no matter where I was in relation to the speaker, which is nice in outdoor settings. If more bass is desired, there is an Extra Bass feature that is similar to other Sony products. I found that the Extra Bass was handy at higher volumes. To me, the most important feature of this speaker is that it is waterproof (IP67 rating) and dustproof. It hasn’t gotten particularly dusty, but I did test the waterproofing by giving the unit a quick dunk in a sink and it continued to function flawlessly. The unit does have lighting that can be turned off, or even changed. I didn’t care for the light as it will drain the battery but it looks cool in a dark setting. I was able to get 20 hours out of the unit once it was fully charged and without using the lighting feature. It comes with an AC adapter for charging, and will also charge via USB but does not include that cord. The unit does have tap functionality which allows the user to touch the speaker to make DJ-style sounds (scratch, snare, drum, cowbell), and control the volume and lightning. I am not a DJ but my kids did enjoy the DJ noises. You can also use voice commands via Siri/Google to control the speaker. I would recommend downloading the Sony Music Center app to get the most functionality of the speaker; it was easy to use. One last feature is that you can connect up to 100 of these units via the Sony app to create a massive amount of sound. With all of the light controls, DJ tools, and great quality music, it could be amazing to hook up several of these speakers for small party venues. This isn’t something you can do with many portable speakers. In summary, this speaker produces great sound and seems very durable. It lasts a long time between charges, is waterproof/dustproof, and is appropriate for any location for any use. If I were a DJ or had a small party venue, I would even consider this product for business use.

Very good product

I am a long time Photoshop user and have been pleased with this new version. I enjoy being able to rely on a familiar interface with new features seamlessly worked in. I suspect the new haze removal and improved auto-fix features will get plenty of use. I'm new to Premier, but found the interface user friendly and very intuitive. I will be finding a manual since, as with any Adobe product, this product is very feature dense. From what I have learned and experimented with so far, Premier seems very useful.
Overall I'm very pleased with this Photoshop/Premier combo. The cost is a much better price than a monthly subscription and I like that the software will never go away. Installation was a breeze, and is available both by disc and by download, for both PC and Mac.

Great portable speaker for anywhere

I have been completely blown away by the performance of this new Megablast portable speaker by Ultimate Ears. I currently own a Boom speaker, which is a previous generation of portable speaker from Ultimate Ears, and this Megablast speaker is a vast improvement in every way. The Megablast looks fairly similar in style to the Boom, with the same cylindrical shape and rubbery feel to the buttons. It is much larger than the Boom. It is advertised as waterproof and this held true when it was tested in a bathtub. This makes it great for outdoor situations, especially for the pool, boat, or camping. The Megablast has far-field voice recognition, reacting to my voice commands from very far away, inside and outside. It can connect either via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. It is compatible with Alexa Voice which allows it respond to all of the typical Alexa questions and commands. The speaker currently works with Amazon Music, iHeartRadio, TuneIn (through the Alexa App). Via Bluetooth, you can connect to your phone and play music from the various music services that are out there. There is a free Ultimate Ears app that will need to be downloaded to your phone which walks the user through connecting the speaker and logging in to Amazon and other music services. The speaker does come with a D-ring, Micro USB cord, and power adapter. I also obtained the Ultimate Ears Power Up charging dock which works nicely with the speaker. The Power Up charging dock works with both Megablast and Blast speakers, but not the previous generation of speakers like the Boom. For me, a single charge lasted about fifteen hours. Now about the sound: it is amazing and comes out in all directions. Compared to my old Boom, music sounds more full and rich, even at loud volume levels. The improvement in the bass is the most noticeable. Music has real weight to it that you just don't hear with other portable speakers thanks to the improved bass drivers. The highs, the mid-range, and the lows just sound so good. I have really enjoyed using the Megablast. It is easy to use, has quality sound, and allows me to use Alexa. If you are looking for a quality portable speaker, I highly recommend the Ultimate Ears Megablast.

Excellent Sony Headphones

These headphones are fantastic. My experience with noise-cancelling headphones is mainly with another set of Sony 'can' headphones. This set provides almost the same level of sound quality and noise-cancelling without any bulkiness and more flexibility. This unit comes with the headset, micro USB cable, carrying pouch (nice for travel, looks nice), dedicated headphone cable, plug adaptor for in-flight use, hybrid silicone rubber earbuds of various sizes, and 'triple-comfort' earbuds of various sizes. The unit does work when plugged directly into a computer even when out of power. A charge seems to last about 10 hours. I recommend downloading the Sony Headphones Connect app for Apple or Android when using this unit. The app can be used to analyze how you are using the unit and will adjust setting to provide the best quality while conserving battery. Also, as is common, this unit can be used to answer your phone when they are connected. Connection can be made either via Bluetooth or NFC. I was able to use voice control on my phone to control this headphone unit, too. One note: this unit is great for travel and use on the move, but not for working out. Even mild jogging caused the earbuds to fall out of my ear, and they dangled from the neck piece. The noise cancelling ability of this unit is impressive. I thought noise-cancelling would be difficult because the earbuds don't surround the ear like my can-style headphones, but I was wrong. I used these while mowing my yard, and the unit blocked almost all of the noise. The cool thing is that this unit has a 'Smart Listening' feature which detects the noise level around the unit and balances the noise-cancelling level. You can also use the app to select Ambient Mode which quiets the noise-cancelling so that you can hear announcements, etc, making this unit very convenient at the airport or train station. The quality is very nice. I'm not an audiophile but I can tell a big improvement in the drivers; everything sounds nice. Music is very rich, and call quality was very crisp. When I was playing music, the unit would vibrate to alert me of an incoming call. I only had 2 concerns with this unit. First, I could not find a earbud size that felt precisely comfortable in my ear. This should not be an issue for most people. I settled for a set of the comfort earbuds. Second, when the noise-cancelling is on but the surrounding environment is quiet, it made my head feel a little weird. I used the app to turn down the NC level a bit, and that seemed to help. Other than those two issues, I can't recommend this unit enough. They are high-end, but if you are thinking about buying a nice set of headphones then this is a great unit to purchase. They are high-quality, provide excellent features, pack away nicely, look good, and keep a charge for a decent amount of time.

This is a pretty good robotic vacuum that has some limitations. It ran very quietly, more so than a standard vacuum but average for a robotic one. It picked up dog hair and dirt very well on both my hardwood and carpeted areas. I ran an upright vacuum in the same area just after this unit had swept it, and there wasn't much that it missed. It has a handy remote that can be used to schedule a cleaning time, start cleaning right away, spot clean or return it to the charging station. It weighs about 5 pounds. It included a virtual barrier that worked well. It has the typical side brushes so that it cleans up close to walls and furniture. An extra set of side brushes is included. It charged in under 3 hours. The size of the dirt cup is average for a robotic vacuum. I did find some drawbacks. I found that it seemed to have some pathfinding/obstacle issues. In a room with no obstacles, it swept in a strange pattern that left some small parts of the room unswept. In another room with obstacles, it didn't seem to find the best way around some bench legs, again leaving some of the floor unswept. It didn't do well with a light area rug but that is fairly typical. Overall, this is a pretty good robotic vacuum that I would recommend for homes with fairly open floorplans. Due to the remote, this vacuum would be nice for a person that has difficulties with the weight of uprights or with pulling canister vaccums.

Very nice laptop

Overall this is a decent little computer. The size is good if you're looking for something small to carry with you or hold comfortably while you work. The screen folds smoothly and rotates automatically when you change positions. It seems stable when positioned in an inverted V as well. However, when you pick it up in the traditional position the screen is prone to folding back which makes me worry about how well the screen will retain the ability to stand up straight over time.
The fan is quiet and unobtrusive. The keyboard will light up, but isn't excessively bright, which is helpful when I'm working in the dark with someone trying to sleep. I miss having a number pad, but there isn't room and to include it the keys would have to be uncomfortably small. As it is, the keys are a good size. The mouse pad has a good feel and is responsive, but has no buttons which makes scrolling difficult without using the touch screen. I find it awkward to go between the two. Having directional arrows helps.
The touch screen is a nice feature for when you are using it in an inverted V, or as a tablet. It's very reflective (as you would expect of a tablet), so there's a glare on it at all times.
I like the metallic feel. It gives it the impression that you are holding something of substantial quality despite its comfortable size and weight.
The software is very familiar to me as I have another computer with Windows 10. It does include some bloatware; mostly games.
The sound isn't great. It is workable, but has a tinny quality, even with the bass turned all the way up. I would recommend headphones for anyone doing a lot of listening, or anyone who needs good quality sound.

Great Router for Large House and Many Devices

I have enjoyed using this router, which is optimized for situations in which your home has many devices connected to WiFi and/or if you have a larger home. It uses the latest technology to produce 3 WiFi bands: a 2.4 GHz band and two 5 GHz bands. Many of my older devices would connect to the 2.4 GHz band, which was fine. That band provides up to 750 Mbps. My newer phones and computers connected to one of the 5 GHz bands, each of which provides up to 1625 Mbps. This router can handle as many devices as you can throw at it. I experimented with having multiple streaming devices going at the same time as online gaming and a video conference call, and the connections were great regardless of the bandwidth I was using with all those devices. One interesting feature is that I was able to use voice commands through my Echo to access some of the WiFi features of the router. I was also able to use the Linksys App on my Android phone to control most of the router features. One note, the 2 USB ports on the back are 3.0 which is nice. The range on this router was amazing. I don't have the largest house but I was able to roam very far away from it in my yard and still had impressive signal. I feel like this router would be a great purchase for the family with a lot of tech, especially with multiple devices using WiFi at high bandwidth at the same time. You will get optimal signal and excellent WiFi.

Good for wide open floors, not great in corners

This is an electrically powered mop meant for hard floor surfaces. In my home, that means laminate and vinyl flooring in the hallways and kitchen. The unit came with one set of pads attached (soft) and another set (scrubbing) separately. It also comes with 2 small bottles of Spring Fresh-scented cleaning solution for the spray nozzle on the unit. In the middle of my floors, I felt it did a good job of cleaning. It wasn't particularly loud, which is a plus. In some tough areas, I did go spray and go over messes twice: once with scrub and then once with soft. While the handle does allow the unit to swivel, I had a hard time using it in corners. That said, given the speed and ease in which I did the central areas I didn't really mind taking a moment to touch up corners. The corner issue is my only negative.

Excellent headset

This an excellent headset for just about any purpose. They fit nicely over the head and sit comfortably without being too heavy. While the outer housing of the earpieces are round, the inner cushion does contour to the ear and fits snugly. The audio quality with music playback was nearly the best that I have experienced. The music playback was rich and balanced. The headset has a Bass Effect feature, which I found extraneous because the bass was already fine for me. The headset does have active Noice Canceling which I found to work better the louder the ambient noise around me. For example, I could hear speech noise in a quiet part of my house but outside noise completely disappeared. The headset can be used to answer and talk on a cell phone. When I used the headset to answer my phone, I could hear the caller just fine but the caller did have a little difficulty understanding me as the microphone is on the upper side of the ear housing. I did use the Sony Headphones Connect App, as recommended, with my Android phone. I do want to confirm that this headset works with Android devices because the box only lists compatibility with Apple products. It comes with an audio jack, mini USB charging cord, and a convenient storage pouch. Overall, I have enjoyed this headset very much, and it has replaced my old headset.

To fill the tank, you remove the tank from the base and turn the tank upside-down as the opening is on the bottom underneath a screw cap. I have had humidifiers where that is a pain because of the weight when the tank is filled and because fitting it back on the base was clumsy. With this tank only holding about 1.1 gallons, the weight was fine. No problems flipping it when full and then situating it on the base.

Does this not have a chat mixer on it?
In the iCue software that controls the ARGB and includes an equalizer with presets, there is a mode that prioritizes chat. However, there is no chat mix button or toggle on the headset itself.

Can sleep buds 2 connect blue tooth to different apps on my phone?
No. Bose made the decision that the Sleepbuds will only connect via bluetooth to the Bose Sleep app which will only play from a selection of sounds. These are not for listening to music, answering calls, or for audiobooks. The sole intent is to help people fall asleep.

I have the original Bose - Sleepbuds....are these the same thing or improved in some way?
I think they are improved. The shape fit better in my ear and there was less noise from the sleepbuds sliding on the pillowcase or turning my head. I also think the sound technology has improved with the sounds available on the Bose Sleep app. I saw improved sleep results in both the time it took me to fall asleep and the quality of my sleep.

If I use these and they truly block out all sounds, does it come with an alarm built in the app? I don't wanna have my alarm clock set and not hear it due to me wearing these through the night
Yes, there is an alarm feature as part of the Bose Sleep app that connects with the sleepbuds. The interesting part is that because the sleepbuds have their own memory, and the alarm you would set would be uploaded to the sleepbuds, the alarm will actually work even if your mobile device runs out of battery.

Are these noise canceling on the "Microphone" side as well? I'm often in Coffee shops, with a lot of ambient noise, and I'd like to find something that reduces background noise for the listeners on the other side.
Yes, it blocks out all noise but your voice. I felt like they did a very good job with that.

Are you able to run with the QuietComfort Earbuds? Do they stay in your ear while you go on runs?
Yes, they'll stay in your ear. I think this version will stay in a runner's ear better than previous version thanks to their new design. They aren't as small as workout-specific earbuds, but they felt nice. And they are meant for all day wear.
