Clean your carpets more efficiently with this Rogue robot vacuum. The intelligent mapping helps the device navigate quickly through your home, and it has a tri-clean system that agitates, brushes and uses suction to ensure a thorough cleaning. This Rogue robot vacuum returns to its base for recharging when the job is done.

Above Average Robot Vacuum but Horrible App
on November 11, 2017

First, let me say that I was pretty impressed with the build quality and appearance of the Hoover Rogue. I was also impressed with its ability to navigate without ramming into every object in its path like another robot vacuum I have had the displeasure of using. The Hoover Rogue performed much butter and did a good job of getting dirt, dust, and hair on my hardwood floor and tile surfaces. This can all be done out of the box without downloading the app.
However, you need the app to take full advantage of the Rogue. Unfortunately, it took me quite a while to get the Rogue and app connected via my home WiFi. I've read that this has something to do with the SSID and whether or not you have a dual band (2.5GHz and 5GHz). I am pretty tech savvy and it was a struggle. No new product in this day should ever have that much problems connecting right out of the box. Additionally, the app is clunky. I realize this can be easily fixed via updates, but you shouldn't have to wait. This should've all been resolved prior to the release.
As far as cleaning, its much better suited for hardwood floors and/or tiles. It will clean carpets, but it's a very superficial clean--not like one you would get with an upright vac. That's what people need to understand. The Rogue will never replace an upright vac for carpet/rugs. It will, however, take care of light maintenance cleaning. I have two thin/light runner rugs that would sometimes fold up/crumple when the Rogue tried to go over it. It worked sometimes, but not every time. A heavier area rug I have didn't have this problem.
All in all, I would've given the Rogue 3-3.5 stars simply because it was much better than my previous robot vacuum in almost every way. Why so low then? Because I just think robot vacuums are mostly an interesting trinket to impress your friends and family rather than serving a real practical use that would justify the price. I deducted 1.5-2 stars because of the problems connecting. I think the Rogue has a lot of promise for those who find it useful and worthwhile, but as it stands, there are lots of kinks to work out. It would've been worthwhile for Hoover to withhold the release until they were fixed but I'm sure there was a rush to market for the holidays.
Pros:
-Optical sensors work well
-Doesn't ram furniture/walls
-Quiet
-Suction
Cons:
-Connectivity
-App
-Dust bin size
-Price for function

Nice Addition to Kitchen
on October 28, 2017

The Philips Viva Multi Chopper was very easy to assemble and operate. There are no switches or settings to fool with. You simply select which chopping option is appropriate (using the Chop Drop basket for most veggies and fruits) or the basin which is more like a traditional food processor to be used with vegetables, fruits, nuts, meats, and cheeses. Using the chop drop feature, you put what needs chopping into the basket and place the motor unit on top. Applying a light pressure to the motor will activate it. As the pieces are chopped, they fall through the Chop Drop basket once they are small enough to fit through the holes. This produces a very uniform fine dice. The one thing I wish is that there was a way to have a larger dice. The main chopping basin is just like a traditional food processor and works as expected dicing and mixing whatever you place into it. Cleanup was very easy as there are only a few pieces (the basin, the basket, and the blade). I just rinsed off under water and some soap and it was just like new.
In conclusion, I would recommend this if you hate dealing with chopping lots of veggies. It produces a very fine chop so would be good for many kitchen uses. I threw baby carrots, whole radishes, and large chunks of onions and had a very consistent product each time without anything turning to mush.

Excellent Experience
on October 25, 2017

For those considering a high-end over the ear headphone system, the Sony 1000X M2 headphones will not disappoint. Everything from the fit to the noise cancelling exceeded my expectations.
First, the sound quality is superb. Everything from the subtle highs to the rumbling lows comes through without any distortion. Bass is excellent, but not overwhelming.
Second, the noise cancelling is far superior to other noise cancelling headphones that I have tried within the same general price range. Sony even has an app that you can install and control the amount of ambient noise that you want to let in. You can also indicate that you want it to focus on letting voices in instead of other noises which is very helpful in an airport or while listening to some tunes at work.
The last over the ear headphones I tried weren't very comfortable--especially in the headband. The Sony's fit snugly without feeling tight or having the headband feel strapped to the top of your head. The ear cushions fit like a glove around my ears and formed a perfect seal for optimum sound. I had them on for approximately 6 hour without any issues.
As far as features go, the Sony 1000X MII is packed. Some of them are more useful than others, but downloading the app will allow you to fine-tune your set to your preference. I didn't really use the adaptive noise cancellation which can tell what you are doing (walking, sitting, etc.) and adjust the amount of ambient noise to allow through based on that activity. You can always turn this off and adjust it manually which is what I prefer. The feature that I enjoyed the most was the Quick Attention feature. Using predefined taps/touches to the outside of the right earpiece, you can pause/start audio, skip forward or backward, turn the volume up/down, or activate your phone's voice control. This is very useful if you want to put your phone away or just need to quickly pause the music to listen to something going on in the outside world.
In conclusion, I'm extremely satisfied with the Sony 1000X M2. Even with a price of $350, I think they are well worth it. The quality of the noise cancellation really makes a crowded airport, office, or noisy airplane a much more relaxing experience. Turn on your favorite track and you're transported to an audio euphoria. What could be better??? 30 playtime with noise cancelling ON and up to 38 with noise cancelling off. That's phenomenal. I highly recommend the Sony 1000X M2s to anyone looking for a quality set of headphones which are well worth the price tag.

The Hisense 65H9D is a beast of a television out of the box. The ship weight showed 84lbs and I think the TV (minus all of the packaging) weighed at least 70lbs alone. My 55" Samsung was much lighter. While I was able to get it unpacked and atop my stand, it took quite an effort and it really is a two person job.
First, the build quality and appearance. I really enjoyed that it had a brushed metal bezel. This gives it a very nice high end look and separates it from most of the solid black TVs. The two stands feel solid and look nice. So the entire package looks stylish and of high quality.
Second, and most importantly, the picture. The 65H9D has a nice picture, with excellent brights and pretty good contrast. However, even after adjusting all of the settings, I couldn't get the colors to pop like they do on my Samsung. The colors are quite nice and accurate, they just don't wow me. As far as clarity, I found the 65H9D was excellent. The adjustments allow you to fine tune and individualize to your liking.
Setup was almost non-existent and a breeze. I did find a lot of the advanced picture settings actually made a noticeable difference unlike on some other TVs. The 65H9D comes pre-loaded with a variety of different apps for streaming like Netflix and YouTube. Through the Opera TV platform, you can add some new apps but I found most to be pretty worthless. There were some noticeable apps missing (HBOGO, Hulu, Starz, etc). I was impressed with the web browsers speed in comparison with my other TVs. However, the cursor was very clunky and slow.
In conclusion, the TV is certainly respectable. For a 4K 65" priced at $1,499, it's a pretty good product and I think most will be really pleased with it. However, there are some not insignificant shortfalls to consider.
Pros:
-Brightness
-Accuracy of color
-Clarity
-Exterior design
Cons:
-Weight
-Picture lacked a vivid 'wow' factor
-No way to add certain popular apps
-Remote is clunky

Surprisingly Quiet and Close Shave
on October 19, 2017
Posted by: abl001
from Maryland
I have been a traditional in-line electric shaver guy since high school. I always knew the rotary electric razors existed, but I questioned how they could work as effectively as an in-line razor. I no longer question!
The Phillips 5750 provided a remarkably close and smooth shave. It really outperformed my current electric razor in the lower parts of my neck, around my adams apple, and the lower part of my chin. These are all areas that I just assumed a rotary razor would have difficulty. Each of the rotating razor heads flexes effortlessly and moves along every curve of your face/neck. I can only guess that the circular design helps gets some of those more troublesome hairs that I always struggle to get on the first or second pass with my current razor.
Additionally, the 5750 comes with a nice charging and cleaning base that keeps your electric razor blades as fresh and functional as possible automatically. The unit itself is very nicely constructed and has LCD displays to show charge level and other functional details. It just looks like a quality piece of grooming equipment that you'd be proud to have on your bathroom counter.
In conclusion, I'm very please with the Phillips 5750 Electric Razor. I think this experience might have converted me from the traditional in-line style electric razors. I would highly recommend this product for those men looking for a clean, fast, and comfortable shaving experience.

Nicely Built but Picture Lacks Brilliance
on October 13, 2017
Posted by: abl001
from Maryland
The Acer S271HL Gbidx 27" Monitor is extraordinarily easy to unpack, assemble, and requires almost no setup. I used the VGA cable to connect to my Dell laptop and it was pretty much plug and play. I'd never really considered purchasing a monitor to use with my laptops, but I can now see the benefit.
One thing that I didn't see was the brilliant color that I have on my laptop screen. This was disappointing but I'm fairly used to a lackluster display with my work monitors. But, if I'm purchasing something for my home, I want those brilliant and bold colors. I would love to use the monitor to add extra ambiance at my home work area and this monitor will do well for that. But as I said, it did leave me wanting for a little more and despite my attempts to adjust the settings, it didn't improve.
In conclusion, setup is a breeze, it is light as a feather for a 27" monitor, and comes at a reasonable price. Is it going to blow you away with the colors? No. But it's not a bad monitor and does the job a monitor is supposed to do.
Pros:
-Price
-Weight
-Setup
Cons:
-Color Brilliance

Excellent Home Theater Addition
on October 4, 2017
Posted by: abl001
from Maryland
The Epson Home Cinema 2150 is an excellent addition to any home theater setup or for anyone who just wants to enhance their living room. In addition, it's small size, light weight, and built in 10w speaker make it a great portable option to take with you on the road.
I actually have a much higher end Epson Home Cinema that is 2.5x the cost and while it does have more than double the contrast ratio, it's hardly noticeable. It's full HD projection delivers crystal clear details, vibrant colors, and stunningly bright picture even when the room is fully lit by a light or you have outside light sources creeping in. The picture quality for the price is excellent. Pair that with up to 300" projection and I say you've got a great projector that should meet almost anyone's needs.
Setup was a breeze and you can seriously be up and running watching your favorite show in less than 5 minutes. It's basically plug and play. Remove from box, plug in power, plug in video source, and push power. Bam! You're good to go.
Compared to my other projector, the heat output from the 2150 is much less. You could use my other one to heat the room on a cold winter day. After several hours of use, this projector was just slightly warm and the fan noise was barely noticeable.
The 10w built-in speaker isn't going to blow anyone away, but is definitely adequate if you wanted to take this out on a camping trip or to watch a big game with all of your friends. Granted, if you are spending the money to purchase this, I'm sure you've got a nice speaker setup that you will choose to use. Unfortunately, the 2150 only comes with a 3.5mm audio output jack. That may limit it's use for some soundbars. It would be very nice if they included bluetooth connectivity for speakers as there are a lot of great sound options these days and it would optimize the projector for portability.
As far as wireless capabilities, it will definitely connect to your home network and you can project your screen from your smart phone via the Epson iProjection app. This is ideal if you want to share pictures from a trip or demo a website. Doing this took a matter of seconds and could have some uses. To wirelessly project video, you'll need something like an Fire Stick, Chromecast, AppleTV, etc. I used a Chromecast and it was a simple as plugging it into the HDMI port just like your TV. The quick setup provides instructions on how to connect a mobile device to do true screen mirroring via an MHL cable which I do not have. I think it's easier to just use some screen mirroring options that some of the streaming devices come with rather than purchase a cable and stay wired.
In all, I would highly recommend this projector for anyone looking to enhance their home theater experience. It doesn't take any complicated setup. I have a very large clean white wall that I used and it suited my needs just fine. Obviously, a purpose installed projection screen would be ideal.
Pros:
-Picture quality (detail, color, brightness/contrast)
-Setup
-Portability (light weight and built-in speaker)
-Price
-Heat production/dissipation
Cons:
-Lack of optical/other audio out connection

Awesome Coverage and Speed / App Needs Work
on September 30, 2017
Posted by: abl001
from Maryland
First, I have had the pleasure of testing several whole home mesh systems over the past year. The D-Link meets or exceeds the performance of those systems. Setup was extremely easy and like most routers, can be done via your computer or app. I have to say, I found the app lacking and clunky. It crashed several times so I would say it needs some serious improvement--especially if you are one that likes to frequently tinker and adjust your network.
Out of the box, the packaging was good. I've been extremely impressed with the packaging of routers lately and the D-Link Covr AC3900 continues that trend although falls short of the Linksys which almost make it an art. The design of the D-Link also falls short of my aesthetic desires. Build quality is what you would expect, but it just doesn't have a high-end feel. It certainly doesn't look like it could be a heavyweight in the whole home wifi field. I've found the Linksys systems to look more substantial. But it's about performance right?
Performance wise, the D-Link had lower ping rates than my other whole home mesh systems. I maxed out all of my device and wasn't able to produce any noticeable delay or lags. However, as I've stated before, this has as much to do with your ISP and the plan you pay for. Your router can only give you speeds that you pay for. I didn't notice any problems with handoff between the extender node and the main router since they use the same SSID. One critique is that I would've preferred the ability to select which band my devices use (2.5GHz or 5GHz) but this isn't huge.
In conclusion, setup was a breeze and I am really impressed with the performance of the D-Link Covr despite its appearance. The fact this whole home system actually comes with a primary router as it's base is a plus as some only include nodes that you stitch together. At 6,000 sq ft coverage, this system should meet the needs of almost anyone!
Pros:
-Coverage
-Simplicity
-Performance
-Price
Cons:
-Design
-Lack of 2.5/5GHz customization
-App

Nice Router But Advantage for Gamers is Overstated
on September 27, 2017
Posted by: abl001
from Maryland
The Linksys WRT32X AC3200 Dual-Band gaming router is an excellent router by any standard. It is designed "exclusively" for gamers utilizing Killer enabled PCs utilizing its Killer Prioritization Engine. However, any wi-fi device will work perfectly fine with this router. The Killer Prioritization Engine simply takes the prioritization and automates it meaning anything operating with the Killer hardware will get top priority over all others. Now, if you're a big gamer that may be a big benefit to you. However, there are a lot of routers that allow you to customize the prioritization of devices so I'm not sure I find this as a huge benefit.
The overall packaging is beautifully done. Props to Linksys as all of their products I've received over the last couple of years have been really upscale. The same goes for the build quality and design. Linksys has routers that are more streamlined and modern looking in my opinion, but this one definitely has the gamer vibe with the displays on the front side and all black color.
As far as speed, bandwidth, and features, this router is likely all that you will need. Linksys does have higher performing routers (even cheaper!) with almost all of the same features. What you don't get are the 'bells and whistles' for specialized gaming. As I've mentioned, I'm not exactly sure how beneficial the bells and whistles are, but some may find them useful. The WRT32X does have an eSATA which most routers do not have.
My final recommendation is that there are other more powerful routers out there with most of the same features. However, this router is certainly a great router to have with all of the advanced features that one would expect from a high-end Linksys router.
Pros:
-Enhanced dashboard/configuration for gaming
-eSATA connection
-Killer Prioritization Engine
-Front display is flashy which gamers might light
Cons:
-Many of the same features as other routers, just marketed differently
-Price

Excellent for Businesses
on September 12, 2017
Posted by: abl001
from Maryland
First, I work in a large public university office that receives hundreds and sometimes thousands of pages of documents in a single day. To that end, we require high-end, fast, and reliable. The DS-860 does exactly that at a relatively reasonable price given the field of high-end document scanners. If you are a home user or even a home office user and don't process 100+ documents a day, this scanner will be more than you need. I would recommend a simple multi-function printer/scanner/fax for those situations. This scanner is definitely built for businesses.
Setup was fairly easy, but I am also a very tech and computer savy person. The DS-860 comes with a CD and recommends installing the manufacturer software this method. More and more computers these days are without a CD drive. Either way, the drivers are easily found on the Epson website and can be installed quickly. While using the manufacturer software isn't required, it does allow fine-tuning of the settings and creating easily searchable documents.
One thing I really like about the Epson DS-860 is the small footprint. I expected it to be quite bulky as some of these scanners can be. However, the DS-860 is quite small and will fit in a cube, on a desk, or neatly tucked away on a counter.
Scan speed is very fast and yet produces great quality. Obviously, the lower the quality, the faster the scan. For the needs of our office, scan speed could be 1-2 seconds per page if that. The scanner will accept 8.5" width and up to 17" length. Additionally, it can handle hard ID cards or business cards with ease. Image quality for text is superb! Images are satisfactory, but as I've mentioned, this scanner isn't meant for scanning pictures for reproduction--primarily documents for reference/review. My office does review documents that include photo IDs which we must use to verify identity. These come out clear enough for our use.
In conclusion, I would highly recommend the Epson DS-860 for any office that needs to quickly scan documents. Whether you save them all up and do them at once or use the DS-860 to scan them immediately as you receive them, the DS-860 can do it. This could completely change some workflows given the speed, size, and ease of use.
Pros:
-Size
-Speed
-Quality
-Price relative to others in the field and quality
Cons:
-No wider scan width options

Hi, Does this work in a regular carpet too?.?.

Yes. It can be used on area rugs and/or regular carpeted areas. I found it easier on carpet because you don't have to worry about it moving like an area rug.

Duplicative of Samsung Home Theater?

My current Samsung Home Theater (HT-BD1250) is old and dying, so I'm considering a new Samsung Series 6 Home Theater (HT-H6500WM). Although there is nothing wrong with it, I am also considering upgrading my Samsung TV (LN52B550K1FXZA) with this new Samsung TV (UN55H6350AFXZA). Would the Series 6 and the new TV be compatible? Would they be overly duplicative (same apps, internet capability, etc.)?

Lastly, to avoid paying for duplicative features, would it make more sense to get the Series 6 and a cheaper "less smart" TV with a similar picture (e.g., UN55H6203AFXZA, or keep my old TV), or get the more expensive TV and a cheaper "less smart" home theater system? Thanks!!
Go with the more expensive UN55H6350AFXZA model. I was trying to decide between the two and the cheaper model has far fewer ports for connections (particularly HDMI). In addition, the more expensive model which I know own (UN55H6350AFXZA) has a quad core processor which dramatically increases the speed at which the TV functions (navigation, loading apps, even switching menu options). Don't skimp on your TV, it should be the hub of your entertainment.
