New Tech, Worse Result

I am fortunate enough to come from a time where I was able to experience life before and after the internet boom. I remember having a landline, turning your television to channel 3 so that you could play a video game, and of course...Polaroids.
Everyone loves Polaroids with their instant gratification of an image developing right before your eyes. These pictures are especially great for scrap booking, making a photo wall, or making your own "who done it" board for all of you murder mystery fans. So when I was offered the opportunity to try this camera, I was excited for the nostalgia.
Now this camera does not come with film, and let me tell you, the film is pricey. You will easily spend more in film than the cost of this camera. The other difficult part about the film is that Polaroid recommends using film that is within 1 year of its manufacture date as printed on the side of the box. After going to 4 stores, I finally found a 16 pack that was manufactured in January 2023, barely within the one year window. After acquiring the film, I charged the camera, downloaded the companion app, and put my photography skills to work.
The Polaroid App does link directly to the camera and allows you to try your hand at some advanced techniques such as double exposure. The app is minimal but simple, so anyone really can use it. However no matter what filter or setting I tried, the pictures just came out subpar. I had an opportunity to use this camera over the Halloween holiday and with my child dressing up as Wednesday Addams, this retro style picture taking device was PERFECT for giving that eerie old Halloween look. However when you try to use it for anything else, it just falls flat on its face. Pictures are not vibrant and seem...underdeveloped. I am not expecting digital quality by any means, however I have other Polaroid style cameras from over the last couple years and they blow this iteration away. Also, no matter the film. I always ended up with a defect in the upper left corner of all the photographs similar to a spider web. Is it possible that my camera is defective? Maybe. However, in my experience, this product was very underwhelming.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

A shift in the right direction
on October 22, 2023
Posted by: 1ShadowFox1
Earlier this summer I acquired the Thrustmaster T128 Force Feedback Racing Wheel and have really put it through its paces with BeamNG on PC. Even a 7 year old that would make Godzilla run for cover uses this steering wheel regularly and it takes every bit of the beating without breaking a sweat. The included paddle shifters with this steering wheel is great for DCT transmissions, but something was missing. Something just didn't feel quite right. I needed to row some gears!
Enter this TH8S Shifter Add-On. First, there are two different ways to hook this shifter up to your gaming platform. For console gaming, you connect the shifter to the steering wheel, which would essentially be a parent controller. If you are using this shifter with a PC, you will use the USB connection directly into your tower. Luckily, both cords are included with this shifter. Unfortunately, the USB cable is entirely too short unless your tower is directly below your shifter setup. However, this is where the shortfalls end.
The feel of this shifter is amazing. The shifts are positive and definitive. There is a spring loaded return to center (neutral). It honestly feels similar to any modern manual transmission vehicle I have driven. The mounting method is also very secure and I have never found myself moving the shifter even during very spirited gaming. Godzilla Jr also has put it to the test without faulter.
If I had to suggest any improvements for future generations, I would obviously ask for a longer USB cable. Secondly, and maybe I am getting picky here, I would like a couple assignable buttons on the shifter. Maybe a button on the top of the shifter, and maybe another on the base somewhere. As someone who has a lot of seat time in a real race car, I would like to be able to have a linelock, transbrake, or n2o arming button near by shifter. Lastly, illuminated gears would be great, or even a digital display on the shifter telling you what gear is active. This last idea may be a little ricey, however I think it would add a "wow" factor, especially to those teenage videogamers.
Overall, fire up the game and go row!

Always a bridesmaid...
on October 5, 2023
Posted by: 1ShadowFox1
Gaming and laptops used to be two words that would never go together. The form factor of a laptop was never indicative of the performance needed to have an enjoyable gaming experience. However over the last decade or so with the increase in technology, laptops have become a viable option if you needed to game on the go without being married to a desktop. SSDs and laptop specific dedicated GPUs really deserve the credit for the increased capabilities of these gaming laptops.
Speaking of SSDs and GPUs, this GIGABYTE Gaming Laptop is equipped with a 512gb SSD and NVIDIA RTX4060 GPU. The SSD is able to handle the speeds necessary to reduce program boot times, but may leave something to be desired as it will not be enough satisfy any serious gamer as game file sizes are ever increasing and after a few months of ownership you will be left to chose which games stay installed on your laptop and which ones need cut from the team. In a digital age, it is fairly easy to remove and reinstall games, but it may prove to be an inconvenience. Similar to the SSD situation, the 4060 Graphics Card is adequate for moderate gaming, but will fail to wow you. While playing most modern games on higher graphics settings, you will see 60-70fps, which isn't horrible. The 4060 has minor generational upgrades over its 3060 predecessor, however the performance difference is negligible. To be fair, the 3060 was a much improved GPU over previous generations, but the 3060/4060 GPUs are intended to be cost effective entry level GPUs and it shows.
Something GIGABYTE definitely nailed though is the amount of connections (2 USBs, 2 USB-Cs, a LAN port, SD Card Slot), and their locations. I have a couple other gaming laptops that have the power connection in the middle of the right side of the laptop and it is an absolute pain when working on wall power. This GIGABYTE power port is in the middle of the back of the computer. THIS IS WHERE EVERY POWER PORT SHOULD BE! I really hope other companies take note of this.
Overall, this GIGABYTE Gaming Laptop is a decent entry level laptop. It will get the job done. But it will leave you wanting more. There are other products out there in the same price range that will outperform this laptop. However I have yet to get my hands on a laptop who has a layout that makes more sense than the way this laptop is laid out. If you can get this laptop at a good deal, I would definitely snag it. But just understand that this laptop will always be the bridesmaid, never the bride.

Big Screen, Big Game
on October 3, 2023
Posted by: 1ShadowFox1
Let me start off by saying I need to buy a bigger desk. I love my current 2 - 24 inch monitor setup, but I love this ASUS 31.5" TUF more. Size does matter. There were times where a screen this size would have been considered a large screen TV. But performance also matters. This gaming monitor stands out in both aspects. With the 170hz refresh rate and a 1 ms response rate this monitor is smooth and fast. The 2560 x 1440 (2k) resolution is also more than sufficient to provide you with an amazing gaming experience. On top of the eye opening performance specs, the versatility of this monitor also stands out. With a DisplayPort and 2 HDMI ports, this monitor can be used for more than gaming. I could see this monitor being a very valuable asset for a dorm is it could double as a television.
Some gaming monitors do not come with speakers. Other gaming monitors come with less than adequate speakers. This monitor, however, was a pleasant surprise. The audio produced from this monitor it no replacement for a dedicated audio system. However if you only had a big enough of a budget to spend on a monitor, you could definitely get by for a while with the speakers included.
Like most things, this monitor is not perfect. Out of the box the color was off. Not just "hmm...something looks a little off". The color was really terrible. I had to spend a solid 20 minutes adjusting the hues and cues to get colors I was used to. Also, this monitor is equipped with physical buttons on the back right side of the monitor. This is great. I am all for physical buttons as it makes life easier. However, any time I attempt to adjust the angle of this monitor, the buttons are exactly where I place my fingers to move the monitor. Ultimately one I get this monitor in its forever home, I really wont need to adjust it so that should be a non-issue. And if I only need to invest 20 or so minutes into getting the settings to where I like, that is a small price to pay for a monitor of this caliber.
Overall, this is a great gaming monitor with the sized and specs. Although there is a bit of a hefty price tag attached, it is an investment that is well worth the money. If you want to up your game, up your monitor with this ASUS TUF LED monitor.

DirtDetect senses the hidden dirt that hides in your home, and automatically boosts power to pull it in. EdgeDetect senses edges and corners and doubles suction* power for more powerful cleaning* (vs. ECO mode). FloorDetect senses carpets and hard floors around your home, and optimizes your vacuum’s performance based on the floor type. Lastly, LightDetect automatically illuminates dark spaces, so you can easily track down hidden dirt. All four of these technologies combine in the Shark Detect Pro to give you up to 50% better* dirt pickup (*Based on ASTMF608, eco vs. boost). Plus, the QuadClean Multi-Surface brushroll tackles four cleaning targets: fine dust, pet hair, large debris, and dust along edges. Return it to its base, and it charges and empties automatically, sealing in up to 30 days worth of dust & debris, so you can forget about emptying for up to a month, and leave behind the trips to the trash can after every use. It's a race to a very satisfying finish
on September 28, 2023
Posted by: 1ShadowFox1
There are not a lot of chores that I enjoy doing. Vacuuming, however, is the one chore that always proves to be satisfying. It makes such a big impact on the feel of your home. The feeling of a freshly cleaned carpet beneath your feet. The smell of a fresh living space. The pride in knowing you completed your adult task for the day. The only downside...where do I plug the vacuum in and what side of the vacuum should I have it on to keep it out of the way? This Shark Detect Pro Cordless Vacuum takes care of that problem and only adds to the satisfaction.
First, this vacuum is very easy to assemble and has a small footprint with the auto empty system. Second, it is very light, nimble, and modular. I have another similarly priced stick vacuum and this Shark blows it out of the water. The auto sense system is also mind blowing! If the carpet is especially dirty, the vacuum senses this and ramps up the suction. If only a mild cleaning is needed, the vacuum enters eco mode to conserve battery.
This eco mode is a must. If I have one complaint about this vacuum, it is the battery life. You will not be able to vacuum your entire house on a single charge. Depending on the level of dirtiness, you are getting 20-30 minutes on a charge. However, due to the portable nature of this vacuum, you can accomplish a lot of cleaning in this time.
The auto empty feature is also AMAZING! I have become accustomed to this feature with robotic vacuums, but it is definitely a game changer with a stick vacuum. The HEPA filter also leaves your room just feeling cleaner.
If you want a vacuum to tackle small to moderate jobs and make you hate cleaning less, this Shark Vacuum is a great choice. Although its battery life is not fantastic, you can just look at it as a reminder that you have earned a little break between chores. Pick yourself up one, and enjoy the feeling of clean!

Simple, for better or worse
on September 8, 2023
Posted by: 1ShadowFox1
SimpliSafe is a security company geared towards the DIY'r and they know their audience. The setup process for this Whole Home Security System is simple. Very simple. And it will in fact leave you feeling safe...er.
The first step is to setup the base station. This is the white cylinder object that functions as the brain of the system. It has a battery backup but receives its power from a regular 120v wall outlet. After the base station is powered and setup, you can move along adding your door/window sensors, motion sensor, and cameras. Pairing any of the sensors is an absolute breeze. Remove the battery saving tab, press button, and boom...paired. Then remove the double sided tape that is essentially a command strip and stick them to the door/window/cabinet that you desire. The instructions state that the sensors need to be within 2 inches of each other, which allows very generous placement. The keypad is very simple to setup and mount as well, no different then the other sensors.
Now what is different is the cameras. These are wifi cameras. The first is a wall outlet powered indoor camera, and the second is a battery powered outdoor camera. The wifi range, according to the app, is terrible on both of these cameras. 30 feet from the router, and 10 feet from the base station, the app said the indoor camera had weak signal. The outdoor camera wasn't even able to pair! I ended up setting up both cameras in the same room as the main router in my home, then placing them at their desired locations. This worked well, but I was disappointed that I had to out maneuver the app. Something that I was also disappointed in was the camera video quality. No recording unless you pay the monthly subscription. An onboard SD card would be a great addition. Video quality is also subpar. With how inexpensive other camera options have become, I really think that SimpliSafe needs to step up its camera game.
Overall, SimpliSafe puts out a decent product to keep the big name alarm companies out of your home. A DIY home owner with limited to no tech skills will greatly appreciate how this product is setup and avoid contracts. However, with monthly subscription fees similar to the big name companies, its almost worth signing their contracts over this system as you will get more. A few additions to the SimpliSafe Whole Home Security System could really set it apart, however I do believe it would interfere with the company's fee structure.

A Sound Foundation to a Party!
on June 14, 2023
Posted by: 1ShadowFox1
First off, this speaker should come with a warning from the surgeon general: "Must Be Healthy Enough to Lift 50 lbs". Ok, it may not weigh 50 lbs, but this speaker is a TANK! Luckily, Sony had the forethought to put wheels on the bottom to make moving his heifer around much easier. But this brick house is heavy because it is loaded down with features!
The most important part of a speaker is sound quality. You can advertise flashing lights, battery life, color options, and more. However, if the speaker just doesn't sound good, then what is the point? The entire purpose of a speaker is sound. Let me assure you, Sony understood the assignment. The Sony XV800 sounds phenomenal! Low volume, high volume, highs, lows, country, hip hop...this speaker delivers! Even when connected to a television using the optical cable, this speaker does a good job pretending its a home theater system. I have used this speaker at low volume playing background music during a family dinner, mid levels while working outdoors, and I turned her up a bit when working in the garage and no matter what words I used to describe the quality of sound this speaker puts out will not do it justice. I really hope a Best Buy near you sets up a demo for you to hear for your self.
On to my second favorite feature...battery power. Did I mention this thing has a battery so you aren't married to a wall outlet? And the battery life is very generous. Having had this speaker for a little less than a week, I have not had to charge it since Day 1. I probably have 8-10 hours of listening in and haven't even touched the low battery zone. I have another tower speaker from a competing company that checks a lot of boxes and is in the same price range, however it requires plugged in non-stop.
As you dive deeper into the speaker, you will find that there are a LOT of customization features available. Download the Sony Music Center App as well as the Sony Fiestable App. In tandem, these two apps open up an entire new world of entertaining! From adjusting light settings, to allowing others at your party to contribute to the playlist, to what I am super excited to try...KARAOKE!! I am terrible at singing, but there is a place to plug in a microphone and an entire section of the App dedicated to Karaoke, and it appears the App will score you on your performance. I am terrible at singing, but I am great at entertaining and will thoroughly enjoy this feature.
Don't feel like getting behind the mic? No problem. Queue up your favorite tunes at a barbecue, have your friends join you on the Fiestable App, and watch the app sync your phones together and display synchronized colors for you to wave back and forth creating your own concert!
Sound? CHECK
Battery? CHECK
Features? CHECK
This Sony XV800 Speaker brings the noise...and then some!

Worthy Competition
on June 14, 2023
Posted by: 1ShadowFox1
Not to mention any names, but we all know who Razer is going after with this product. And although this may not be a dog eat cat market yet, this Razer Stream Controller is definitely making his presences known in the food chain.
First, for those of you that don't know, these products are essentially programmable macros that you use to tell your computer or smart equipment what to do. For streamers and content creators, this is especially helpful as while live on the internet you can quickly change scenes (or screens) with the single push of a button. It can also be used like a soundboard, load particular programs, etc. So using one of these allows you to focus more on your content and audience than the background work needed to make your stream go flawlessly.
When it comes to the hardware, Razer got this one right. Not just right, but we are talking 4.0 walking across the graduation stage with honors right. The box is solid, the perfect side, and the mounting stand/methods is definitely a feature that competitors need to take note of. The custom button images are amazing, especially since community content can be utilized to really set your buttons apart. However, I would wish that there was a consistent file format on the companion program for this Stream Controller. Also, I was not able to find a native discord integration for this deck.
If I had to pick one thing I would really like Razer to look into with this product would be auto-login for the programs that are pinned to the buttons on this controller. Although this controller works to open the program flawlessly, each and every program required a login upon opening. If opened manually, the auto-login feature works as intended. However going through the Razer Stream Controller, the OBS and other programs would require manual login.
Overall, great product, Razer! You have made life easier!

Simple...When it's Simple
on June 14, 2023
Posted by: 1ShadowFox1
Having a small business, getting paid is the most important, and sometimes the most difficult part of the job. The last couple years I have been a cash/check only business as I had been unhappy with a previous card/digital processing company I had tried previously. Long story short, they took too much money per transaction and if I had not used their services in a while, it would take over a month to have the funds available to me. This is unacceptable.
Having seen other small retail businesses around me using Square and hearing positive feedback from them when asked, I jumped at the opportunity to try out Square for my own business. First impression is that Square has made this product and process very simple. This square reader charges using a USB-C cable, which is nice not having a proprietary charger. Once charged, you download the Square App which walks you through the setup process, which is again, very simple.
Something I did not expect is that Square also allows you to prepare proposals, invoices, and even though I haven't tried it...payroll services. Square is so much more than a card scanner and that is amazing!
I made a few test transactions using both chip and tap to pay and both worked flawlessly. A card can also be entered manually, which could be helpful as well. The only problem I had was keeping the square reader connected to my phone, which I use as a hotspot. Each time I have needed it, I would make sure that the Square reader was connected via Bluetooth to my phone and when I opened the Square app, it would say device disconnected despite my phone showing a connection. The Square reader would act as if it was not charged, despite being at 100%. I do have a modern flagship phone that is more than capable of handling this process, so hardware is not the issue. I have been able to rectify this issue regularly by turning the Square reader off and on again and plugging it in to a charger, but this hokey pokey is definitely an inconvenience.
Overall, I like this square product and when it works, it works. I just need to find a more reliable means to rectify these connection issues.

Game Hard, with a VENGEANCE
on June 7, 2023
Posted by: 1ShadowFox1
Corsair, you are my hero. I had just finished filing an RMA claim with another gaming PC brand whose gaming desktop had failed on me during when Best Buy decided to introduce us. And boy am I glad they did. Knight in RGB Armor...Love at First Sight...or any other cliche with a tech twist you can fit here. Corsair is my hero, and if you step in to your local Best Buy, they can be your hero too!
First of all, spec wise, this PC is a monster. The Intel I5-13600KF, RTX3070 GPU, 32...yes THIRTY TWO...GB of DDR5 ram, and an SSD as the tech god intended. But as we all know, specs don't always equal performance. I have tested plenty of computers and other products that talk a big game on the packaging but fail to deliver outside in the free. I will be honest, I had some doubts about the i5 at first, but after putting her through her paces, I am convinced this is an All Star lineup.
Bringing this PC out of the box started my day off with a smile. A simple, yet elegant design. A case and contents that are assembled with care, and cable management that allows me to show off both the looks and brains of this PC. Initial setup was a breeze. Open the case, remove the impact absorbing packaging with care, close the case, add the wifi antennas, and power her up. Psst....this is where the fun begins!
Upon turning the key on this gaming desktop, she was quiet. We are talking electric car quiet. If the RGB fans didn't light up, I honestly don't think I would have been able to tell if the computer was running. After about 3 minutes making it though the typical windows setup, I was on my way. Something I really appreciate is that this desktop is not preinstalled with a million different bloatware programs. It has the basics plus a couple Corsair make pretty programs. That is it. Speaking of these programs, one of which allows you to really exercise full control over your fan RGB lights. Are these pretty lights the focus of my review? Of course not. But they sure are attractive and deserve to be mentioned. Especially as they can color match whatever is on our display in real time! I digress, however, and we will move on to what is really important: Performance!
This PC is a UFO. Ok, not literally. But if you run a User Benchmark on this PC, you will see what I am talking about! Gaming, Desktop Work, Workstation...this desktop scored well above its counterparts ranging between 160-170% on the performance spectrum, or UFO status as Benchmark calls it. These numbers are impressive for bragging, however they are even more impressive when you see them in action and allow you to run some very high FPS numbers on some of the most demanding games! Although I didn't dive into any custom tuning yet on this PC, I wouldn't afraid to push this PC. At this time, however, it handles everything I throw at it with ease so I don't have a reason to try and improve its performance.
With everything, however, there is always something that likes to act like a proverbial speed bump. When setting up this PC and until present, I have not been able to get my wireless keyboard to work with this PC. It works with all of my other computers perfectly, however no matter which USB port the dongle is connected to, this PC will not recognize it. I am sure this is a small isolated issue that I will be able to rectify with time, however in the event it is more prevalent, I felt it should be mentioned here.
Ultimately, this Corsair Gaming Desktop is here, and will continue to be your best weapon against your enemies as you strikeback...WITH A VENGEANCE!
I would recommend this to a friend!

Is this system wireless??

No sir, it is not. It is a wired POE system as is stated in the title. However, it does have the ability to add up to two compatible Lorex Fusion wireless products to this recorder.

Rethink eyewear with the Razer Anzu—cutting-edge audio glasses that protect your eyes and immerse your ears. With built-in speakers hidden in its frame, taking in the sights and sounds now has a whole new meaning. Available in two types of frames and two sizes.

Aren’t these just the Bose ones just rebranded

No, they are definitely different. I own both Bose and Razer and the differences are very obvious when you compare them side by side

Isn't these just the Bose ones just rebranded?

No. These are a different product for sure. I have both the Bose and the Razer. The finish, feel, and sound are all different. The Bose have a physical button, while these are soft touch.

See who's at the door even when you are away, play pre-recorded messages when someone rings, talk to those on the other side, and greet guests with the nightlight all with Lorex's new 2K wired video doorbell. With impressive 2k resolution recording, an ultra-wide-angel lens, HDR imaging and highly detailed video both day and night, this doorbell offers both performance and convenience. Be aware of activity around your doorstep with Person Detection, which notifies you when motion from a person is detected. The Two-Way Talk feature using the Lorex Home™ app lets you talk through the doorbell, greet visitors using 1 of 3 quick responses or record your own custom message. Local storage with the included WD purple microSD card means you have no monthly fees and ample storage to keep your recordings safe and secure.

Lorex - 2K QHD Wired Video Doorbell Model:B451AJD-ESKU:6448717 My neighbors have ring doorbells that only record 30 seconds. I am looking for a doorbell cam with continuous record. Tell me about this unit. I own a new lorex 4 camera system

This doorbell also only records clips if you use it as a stand alone device. But if you have a Lorex NVR that is in their "Fusion" line, this doorbell can be added as a channel to the NVR and record 24/7. That is how I have mine set up and it is NIFTY

G915 is a new class of wireless mechanical gaming keyboard with 3 selections of low-profile GL switches and pro-grade 1 ms LIGHTSPEED wireless. Capable of delivering 30 hours of non-stop gaming on a full charge. Fully customizable per-key, LIGHTSYNC RGB technology also reacts to in-game action, audio and screen color as you choose. With a sleek, impossibly thin yet durable and sturdy design, G915 brings gamers to a higher dimension of play. Programmable G-keys let you create and execute complex actions simply and intuitively and the volume wheel and media keys give you fast, easy control over video, audio, and streaming.

How on earth do you game with a keyboard that wide? I think it would be painful after awhile to have your arms spread that wide for one hand to be on the keyboard and your other arm way out to the right to be using the mouse. Am I missing something?

I personally prefer the keyboard with the 10 digit number pad on the side. I have had the opportunity to review both compact gaming keyboards and the full size boards and the only time I use the smaller keyboard is when I am traveling and think I may want to game while in the hotel. I have experienced no discomfort in even lengthy gaming sessions with this keyboard.

Catch suspicious activity around your home with this Defender 2K Wireless video security system. Its four-channel network video recorder provides 1TB of storage, and the two 4-megapixel Wi-Fi cameras have 127-degree wide-angle lenses that capture a large area. View live footage through your smartphone via the companion app of this Defender 2K Wireless video security system.

Does this also have a 2-way voice feature where you can be heard and hear others on the other end? Also, can you zoom in.

There is not a voice feature with this kit. But you can Pinch and Zoom anywhere on the screen.

Upgrade your home office with this Dell Inspiron desktop. Its Intel Core i7 processor and 12GB of RAM let you multitask seamlessly, and the 1TB hard drive offers plenty of storage for photos and games. This Dell Inspiron desktop has a 27-inch FHD wide-angle touch screen display for watching your favorite videos.

Has anyone played any games on this unit ? I know it’s not a gaming system , however just wondering if anyone has tried any games.

Yes I have tried, but if you have played on a PC meant for gaming and then try this, you will not be impressed. I uninstalled all my gaming software from this computer minus Discord. I would keep this computer to the more studious tasks.

Easily control your compatible Samsung smart TV, mobile phone or tablet with this Samsung VG-KBD2000/ZA smart keyboard that features hot keys and a touchpad for simple operation. Bluetooth 2.1 technology enables easy wireless connectivity.

Why won't the keyboard work with apps like NetFlix

When I use this keyboard on my Samsung UN46 7500 HD Smart TV with Apps like Netflix the onscreen keyboard pops up and the keyboard doesn't allow data entry.
I believe that those apps are not programmed by Samsung, so they do not recognize the keyboard. I think it would be something simple to integrate, they just havent dont it. I have a Samsung 6400 series TV, and it doesnt work for those apps either, which is the main reason I bought the keyboard.
