I did some research, watched the video reviews, many said it was good, not great, and behind the times. I just purchased a Canon 80D from BB and love it. However, I wanted something I could leave on the table for fast spontaneous pictures or videos of my 2 year old son. I thought this would be an upgrade from my GoPro Hero5 but it wasn't.
The camera was slow to capture pictures, yet the video was okay. Here's what I liked. I enjoyed the lighter weight, the ability to use DSLR lenses, the adjustable screen to get better angles shooting video, the image quality, the build quality, the lens, a dedicated charger (unlike Sony's USB) everything but the slow processing and capture speed. While I enjoy shooting through a view finder, it wasn't a deal breaker.
I returned a Sony a6000 for this camera because the Sony felt cheap, like holding a tin Altoids container. The M3 felt strong, sturdy, comfortable, with a good weight to it. If not for the slow speed, I'd keep this camera. I ended up returning this camera and buying the new top of the line M5 from BB.
Would / should you buy this over a traditional DSLR? I wouldn't.

Read and watched lots of reviews on the Canon 80D. You wont be disappointed. I'm new to DSLR shooting and yes, any lower end DSLR would've worked fine. But if you want to learn the functions and get the most out of the package, this is what you need to get. Yes, its pricey but the build quality and capabilities are amazing. Do I want to start a vlog like Casey Neistat, probably not. Do I want the option to? Yes. I want to video my 2 year old, capture moments and memories, and yes, any camera will do. Except, this does it better. I see this camera as a Semi-Pro rig, feels great, shoots great, looks great. The lens was designed for this camera. Sure you can buy a kit that has two lenses but why? This lens captures the full range. Did I mention "weather resistance" its just built better than a Rebel.
Is it heavy? Sort of. Will it be a pain to carry? Maybe. I also bought the mirrorless version, the new Canon M5, its nice to carry, but doesn't "feel" as nice to shoot, not as easy to compose a shot (because its much smaller)
