Great TV, but found a minor audio issue

Internet Connectable?Yes
Purchased this TV to mount on my wall above my fireplace mantle. Loved that I can turn off the built in speakers so I can use my Sonos Playbar with Wireless Subwoofer, however after messing around with the wires I discovered that this TV takes the HDMI 5.1 audio signal and downgrades that to simple PCM 2.0 stereo sound out of the Optical output on the TV. This caused my Sonos Playbar to try to estimate bass for the sub. In the end I found something called a "ViewHD Premium HDMI to HDMI + Audio (sPDIF + RAC L/R) Audio Extractor | Converter (New 2013 Model)" that I had to buy from Amazon for around $36.00. I put this just before the HDMI input on the TV and then run another HDMI cable from this box to my TV. Then from the Extrator box I run the Optical cable to my Sonos Playbar. Sound difference was immediately better and richer. So just a heads up for you folks it appears there is some kind of HDMI copyright protection garbage on the Optical audio output on all current HDTVs. If you really want to hear all of the sounds from your added soundbar systems make sure you don't use the Optical out from your TV. You've been fed.

What's great about it: Picture, Apps, lots of inputs.
What's not so great: Audio from HDMI input is downgraded...

Mulitple audio issues lead to a return.

The short and sweet version. I purchased this TV based on reviews and the exceptional image I viewed in store. Got the TV home and was surprised to find you cannot turn off the built in speakers when using a speaker bar or home theater setup. Anyone who buys this set would never use the built in speakers, so to me that is a massive oversight. They have had that audio setting available on all their TVs for years, but decided to pass this round.
2nd issue which was a deal breaker. I knew I wouldn't like the onboard sound so I also bought the Sonos Playbar and wireless subwoofer system. After fiddling around with the built in speaker issues I finally got around to calibrating the Playbar, and to my surprise I discovered they actually downgrade the digital audio coming out of the optical port from the TV that I had planned on using on the Playbar. Lucky for me I had pre-wired an extra 20' optical cable in my wall above my fireplace where this TV and speaker bar were going, so I then disconnected the optical cable from the TV and used a direct connection from the Comcast X1 DVR to the Sonos Playbar and noticed right away support for the wireless subwoofer and a fuller, richer sound coming from the Playbar. So I decided in the end that if I cannot use one remote #tried two different Harmony remotes, 2nd was the Harmony Ultimate# to control the audio on the Playbar without it changing the volume on the TV built in speakers, and on top of that I had to deal with PCM 2.0 stereo output from the optical output that was too much screwing around for me. I did spend 4 days trying to get this to work and in the end took this TV back to the store where they were very helpful in getting me into a different TV that will allow me to turn off/disable the built in speakers.
Just an FYI for you guys it looks like all TVs have to downgrade the optical output to stereo now due to HDMI copyright issues. The TVs will say they output Digital Dolby, or say they support DTS and Digital Dolby, but that only happens on over-the-air inputs and not HDMI inputs. So if you are wiring for your ultimate home theater pull a couple extra HDMI cable, an Ethernet cable, and an optical one before you buy anything to make sure you are covered. Whew, my hands are tired, so consider yourself up to speed!!

Bluetooth issue compounded by poor cust service
on October 9, 2013

We purchased this unit from Best Buy, and it worked very well using the optical connection, but once we tried Bluetooth we had the same experience as others. Called Pioneer several times and we were even willing to buy a new (fixed) speaker bar system, have them ship it with a return label and then box up the old one and return for a credit, but after being hung up on twice, left on hold forever two more times, and no response from customer support email we just decided it was too much work for us to bother. This is going back and we will be buying someone else's speaker system. If you only plan to use optical you will enjoy the system. If you ever think you may use Bluetooth wait for the discounted "refurbs" to come as I think there are going to be a lot of them soon. We also posted this review on Amazon so others are in the know.

All's Good!
By JTinDuluth from Duluth, MN
Received this and noticed the part that fitted into the stand was crooked. Make me think this is the reason it was returned and why it is not a refurbished model. Easy fix.
TV seems great! Very thin. My only issue is that the ports and right on the edge and you can see all the cables sticking out at the sides of the TV. They could have been in a better place.

Bad port placement...
November 29, 2012
I had a similar issue and I found some adapters online that are at 90 degree angles for the connections I needed. That seemed to do the trick. Shouldn't have to do that, but there is a fix for ya.

Amazing Laptop, Especially For The Price Point
By erdelyt
This laptop is amazing! Super fast, looks great, solid build. I have been using 17" HD laptops for years and this is the best I have ever used. I bought an miniPCI-E SSD card and used Acronis to move the system image over to it and now it boots SUPER-FAST! The only issues I originally had were figuring out how to scroll with the touch pad. It's like a Macbook, you use two fingers and drag in the reverse direction you want to scroll. Took me forever to figure it out, but it works great. I also couldn't figure out how to force the video card to be the Geforce versus the Intel HD one, so the Windows Experience Index was pretty low (comparatively) until I went in to the Nvidia control panel and changed the 3D default settings. Then, it was zooming (though, no real need for it to always use discrete graphics, so I switched it back).
In the end, everything is great. I love the separate button for the illuminated keyboard and another for the "cooling down mode" which amps up the fans and lowers the laptop temp by 10 or so degrees.
The keyboard feels great. The touchpad is huge and works well (after getting used to it) and there is VERY little bloatware. The MSI utility for creating boot discs also works great (I created a USB key and 4xDVDs).
If you're in the market for a 1200.00-1300.00 performance laptop this is the one.
The screen is beautiful as is the chassis. All around, the best laptop I've ever had.

Just saw this identical review on Amazon....Everything sounds as I would expect from MSI, and I probably will be getting one, just not sure where this guy bought the laptop from.

ooopsss....One more thing.
October 9, 2013
It wasn't Best Buy's customer service, it was Pioneer's customer service that handled this so poorly. We did buy the extended warranty just in case, but if all the devices have this Bluetooth issue (and it sounds like they do) then it wouldn't do us any good to get another one yet until all the bad ones are gone.
