Totally impressive bass, especially for its size!
on April 16, 2024
Posted by: Cupra
This Sony ULT Field 7 wireless speaker has really impressed me with the depth of the bass on the MAX ULT setting!
Opening up the box you can see Sony's commitment to sustainability with it's eco friendly, recyclable packaging. Pulling out the bluetooth speaker from the box, it is not particularly heavy or cumbersome to move around. You can power it up right away out of the box as well, with about 60% battery life available.
The unit contains two bass woofers and two tweeters in a cylindrical form, with rubberized and illuminated rubber membranes on each end. There is a control panel on the top for your volume, power on/off, bluetooth connection, play/pause and the magical ULT button.
Pressing the ULT button (ULT Off), out of the box, takes it to the lowest level of bass. This is where the speakers is nice and competent, but is definitely lacking in punch. This mode would be for easy listening, for more of a background feel to the speaker, not the life of the party.
Press the ULT button again (ULT1), a snare drum sound is heard, and the bass kicks in. It's more authoritative, and punchy. This is an all round sound mode that's great to amplify whatever you are listening to while adding some good bass.
Press the ULT button again (ULT2), a snare drum and symbol crash sound, and the MAX bass is added. Holy cow, that adds so much power to the music, it really is incredibly punchy and sounds so much deeper and louder than the speaker size suggests. I was really really impressed with that. It totally helps to fill the room with sound in this ULT2 mode.
You can stand the speaker on either end, there is a rubber ring on each end, so you won't worry about beating it up whether you are inside or outside. You can also lay it down horizontally, with the SONY logo facing you. There are flat rubber feet to stop it from rolling around. And talking of being outside, you can go anywhere without worrying as it's IP67 rated for dust and water protection. It is waterproof, as long as you have the rubber accessory cover on the back fully seated. In this case, it can sit submerged in 1meter of water for up to 30 mins without damage. Very impressive, so taking it to the pool or the beach, you don't have to worry about anything. Take it out in the rain? No issues at all there either. The party is with you all the time.
It has integrated carry handles so it's incredibly portable, and as I mentioned, it's not that heavy either so you can move it around with ease. It has a really long battery life as well at 30 hours continuous play. That's awesome. And with the included mains power cord you can add a 10 min charge to the unit and play for another 3 hours with it's fast charging capability! A very versatile unit at all. Things have come a long way! I used to have a SONY MegaBass Subwoofer cassette deck back in the day, and that thing would eat batteries like they were going out of fashion! Long gone are those days with quick charge technology like this!
If you choose to download the Music Center app, you can control more elements of the speaker, set up your own equalizer, turn on and off the lights, customize their display, and also add more speakers to a group if you own more than one of these, or other SONY bluetooth speakers. That expands the sound scape and gives you full control over your speaker. A total of 100 speakers can be added, should you choose to have that many! Incredible!
And as if that wasn't enough - in the back, under the waterproof flap, where you charge the speaker, you can adjust the lights there, but there's a port to connect a guitar or microphone directly to the speaker as well, so you can use it like a PA or Amp for either. There are even tone and flange controls and gain as well. So much versatility from this bluetooth speaker.
But going back to connectivity and bass, the bass really is incredible. So impressive for the size of the speaker. And it maintains its bass up to about 75% volume. Anything after that starts to get a lot more tinny, as the bass fades away. But even at full volume, it doesn't distort to break up, it just loses some bass integrity.
And connection, as soon as I opened the bluetooth settings on my phone as I got the speaker out of the box, I was able to see it and connect to it right away.
I am using this speaker out in my garage space and it fills the whole area with sound. Absolutely love it!
I would recommend this to a friend!

Absolutely love the cold brew function, so smooth!
on April 10, 2024

We've been a fan of De'Longhi coffee machines for several years now, and adding this cold brew version to our coffee bar has been a great decision.
This machine is beautiful to look at, finished in stainless steel and black with a centralized pressure dial looking almost like a speedometer! Gives it that steampunk vibe for sure! On top is the coffee bean grinder/container, and that encompasses 8 grind levels. Once you pour some beans in there, it confidently grinds the beans to your setting, without hesitation.
The instructions were well laid out, and there are several online videos you can watch if this is your first foray into this type of machine.
My wife is the avid coffee lover in the house and every morning has an espresso or a latte. So she is very familiar with the operation, alongside her other coffee machines, as mentioned, also De'Longhi. They key thing that draws us to this one is the cold brew option. This allows you to create a nice, smooth, ice cold coffee in under 5 minutes. She commented, not only does it look great in the glass, but it is oh so smooth. Adding some creamer to it and it was like an icy treat on a hot summer day. Absolutely delicious and so smooth.
In order to get her glass in there to make the cold brew, she did have to remove the drip tray so that her glass would fit in there.
When not making cold brew, the steamer has an accompanying vessel which is neatly engraved with 'De'Longhi'. We did notice that this machine was a little louder overall, compared to our other machines, with regards to the heat cycle. It sounded a little more 'mechanical' when heating up, and slightly higher pitched than our current machine.
Foam was made quickly and with a great heat, and the whole thing cleans up nicely - as long as you clean it right after you've used it. Once that milk gets dried on the rubber portion of the nozzle, it is a little harder to clean off and not leave white residue.
If you want to save time, there are 4 presets for your coffee/water options, including espresso, Americano, the cold brew function and as hot water. Yes, this machine will also heat up just water, if you are wanting to make a cup of tea with it as well, making it very versatile indeed. There is also a dosing and tamping guide along with a tamper and tamping mat.
The drip tray has a red indicator on it that pops up if there is too much liquid in the drip tray indicating that it needs to be emptied.
Overall, as mentioned, the most interesting factor on this machine, was the cold brew, that is what drew us to it, and that part of the machine is absolutely superb. Love it!
Creating espressos, lattes, etc is very simple, and this machine does a great job of making you feel like a professional barista. Thoroughly enjoy using this machine! Highly recommend it, De'Longhi make great products and we love our coffee 'suite' now!

Awesome concept but not without its challenges.
on December 4, 2023

The Nextbase iQ 2K Smart Dash Camera is a really smart idea! I have been a Nextbase fan for years now, with several iterations of the GW series of cameras in our vehicles.
The iQ takes what we know and love from the 'ring' style cameras on our front door and puts it into a dash cam. What that means is you can check on your vehicle at any time, from the comfort of your office, your party, your vacation miles away, literally from anywhere. That is the plan anyways.
Setting up the dash cam is fairly easy. Once you open the packaging, you plug the camera into your OBDII port on your vehicle. You download the Nextbase iQ app and it will walk you through set up with a tutorial. I did find that there were some steps that I had to repeat a couple of times, and trying to scan the QR code on the small screen on the iQ dash cam was challenging. It wouldn't read it, and even pressing on the screen to enable the flashlight on the phone to turn on, caused some reflections. I had to move it around a lot for it to trigger.
Once triggered, the dash cam will download a firmware update and install it on the camera. Then you are able to set up the camera and adjust it to your liking. One challenge I had here was that the camera wasn't 'live' when setting it up, there was an absolute delay when using the live view to set the position. Also, the camera doesn't take into account the curvature of the windshield when mounting. If you can't mount the camera as centrally as possible, you don't have any control left or right on the camera, only up or down. So if you don't hit it centrally right out of the gate, you may not have the view you want. There doesn't appear to be any adjustment of the camera pan or tilt in the app in a digital way either.
The camera is supposed to be able to connect via bluetooth as well as wi-fi, I had a prompt show up asking to enable bluetooth, it covered up something that I was already working on in the app, dismissed it, and now I cannot find a way to get the camera to connect via bluetooth again, which is frustrating. I also cannot rename the camera, so it is named as a Nextbase serial number, and I find that several of the options are either 'coming soon' or not available, even when testing out the 3 month trial of the service. After that there are two subscription plans to choose from, one for $9.99 and one for $19.99 with various feature unlocks. Customer service have been incredibly helpful when I had to reach out to them, which is a great thing in this day and age.
However, if you were able to set it up in a suitable position, then the image quality is fantastic, and gives a nice clean view both out the front of the vehicle and in the cabin as well. When driving with the camera on and recording, there is nothing really distracting you, a red circle shows on the screen, and that's about it. However, I did find that it was incredibly temperamental when going over expansion joints, uneven roads or bumps. It would chime and record an impact. Now I do drive a convertible sports car, so it's a very rigid vehicle and will have an amount flexibility over a hard top vehicle, but I was surprised at how twitchy the camera was in recording impact states.
When the vehicle is parked, I've had hit or miss luck with connecting to the camera. If I drive the vehicle somewhere, and park up, I see that the camera is in 'security mode' and I am able to wake it using the app and see what is going on, both inside and outside (the front) of my vehicle. I was also able to do that this weekend, 400 miles away from my house. I was able to check the status of my vehicle and see that it was all safe and sound.
However, when I returned home and went to show the same functionality to my neighbor about how cool this camera was, it would not wake the camera. I got an error and was told that it was offline. I started my vehicle and the camera came to life. It's almost as if after a certain about of time, the camera turns completely off and won't turn on again until the vehicle is started up. My vehicle is a 2023 Camaro SS Convertible, so the battery is new, as is the OBDII port etc, so not sure why it's doing this.
The camera is actually quite large, it's almost like sticking a smart hub to your windshield with a camera dangling down off of it, so in the confines of a smaller sports car, it does take up a lot of real estate.
When it is working in security mode, there is a red ring that lights up when motion is detected in the local vicinity of the vehicle and records the event. That is a nice and reassuring event that happens, when it works.
Overall, this is a great concept, and with my experience with Nextbase in the past, I think it WILL be a great product, with future updates, firmware and software enhancements. But at the moment, there are too many slightly glitchy elements to it that cause me to wonder whether it will work when I really need it to. If I need it to record something happening to my vehicle when it's parked but it has turned itself off, then what is the point. I'm still talking with customer service to see if there are any reasons why it would be working fine for a day or so, even from 400 miles away and then the following day, right next to it, it is powered down.

Convenient size, but nowhere near as loud as I was
on November 26, 2023
Posted by: Cupra
This is a decent little personal alarm, but I was surprised to find out that the tone to let you know that the new battery was installed was actually louder than the alarm itself! Definitely seems odd to me.
In the box, you get the alarm, a battery (make sure that you remove the plastic protection on the battery otherwise it won't work), a carabiner and a tether strap. The alarm has a push/pull button on the top that provides the functionality. It has a locked and unlocked state. Lock it when not needed, just twist the anchor on the top to the LOCK position. When you go out for a walk, unlock the device by twisting to the UNLK position. In that state, you can press the button to have an emergency SMS sent to a trusted contact, silently and discretely. If you pull on the button, then an audible alarm will sound. As I mentioned at the beginning, the alarm, while annoying, wasn't as loud as the audible noise letting me know that the batteries were installed.
To get the benefit out of this, download the Swann Security app, you can then set up an account and register the device. This is how you can trigger SMS messages (for free) using the most basic of features. It sends a location of the device and an SMS that the button has been triggered. The delivery of the message was very timely, about 3 seconds after pressing the button.
If you so choose, you can pay to use the app and that will unlock more features for you such as increasing the number of notified contacts (with the free version you get one), you can get professional 24/7 monitoring and also be able to use it to find your keys, if they are attached to it.
Overall this is going to be a useful addition for my wife when she is out walking in the early morning for that extra piece of mind. As for the alarm, I don't know if it will scare anyone away, but it may buy a few more moments of time to make a get away.

Really impressed, a powerhouse of a projector!
on November 13, 2023
Posted by: Cupra
Never having had a projector in this format before, I didn't know what to expect. I've had gaming and home theater projectors that mount to the ceiling for quite a few years now and everything associated with setting them up.
With the Samsung Freestyle second generation, you don't have to worry about 'setting it up' at all. I was blown away with how versatile and easy the set up for this projector is! Essentially you point the projector at a surface and it will do the rest for you, automatically. It works out the distance between it and the surface, it adjusts the focus, the brightness and the keystone to give you as true and square (even tho it's a rectangular image, it's square with the surface) an image as possible! Incredibly impressive!
For example, in the photos I've shared, I have fired the projector on a curved wall on the outer surface of a spiral staircase to give an approximate 50" TV screen. I've then shot the image straight up, over 25ft to the ceiling of my house (yes, you can see spot lights and AC grills in the image). And also another, about 85" on a flat wall.
This projector really has changed how I think about the ease of setting up projectors. This one was a breeze. And talking of set up, the main Samsung hub for media, streaming and gaming is very familiar. I tried all 3, using it connected to my phone for both streaming shows on Netflix, and using the Gaming Hub to play the free games that were on there. I did not a small amount of lag when playing something like the classic 80's Marble Madness, which in that type of game is frustrating. It wasn't a lot of lag at all, but enough to keep me losing my marbles! You can subscribe to the game hub for a whole host of gaming opportunities.
The included Samsung TV Plus app gave me Top Gear to watch instantly, so pretty much any time I turn it on, I can have that show playing as long as I have a good signal. The speaker on the projector is also pretty decent as well, giving a good 360º sound that isn't as tinny as you might expect from a product like this. It has a nice amount of bass in it, nice and warm and has a good depth to it. Sure, it's no surround sound beast, but I am impressed with the sound from such a small unit.
The image is 1080p, not 4K, but honestly, you will not be disappointed at all. It's crisp and very vibrant even in a dimly lit room (table lamps on for example). It starts to lose clarity in a bright room, but that is to be expected.
I like this projector so much, that I've purchased an additional hard case for it to protect it, being as it is a very portable projector, it does not come with any kind of case at all. Definitely worth the investment. The projector also has some other skills, you can use the perspex dome on top as a light source as well, providing different colors to your room. There are also preprogrammed messages that you can put on the wall for a party, or different graphics as well.
The full function remote control also has a little trick up its sleeve. If you turn it over, it has a solar charger on it to keep it charged up when not using it. That is a feature that I haven't seen before and a nice little touch!
Overall, an incredible piece of kit that I am really excited to take away to a cabin, or use outside in the yard or in the wilderness. I also purchased an outdoor screen that you can hang between trees, so as long as you have a cell phone signal, you will have entertainment! I have no hesitation in recommending this product at all!

So promising, but falls short in a few areas.
on November 8, 2023
Posted by: Cupra
I was really excited to set up the Ecovacs Deebot T20 when it arrived. I've owned a few robot vacuums over the years, from simple 'bump n go' ones to ones that have mapped my house.
With the Deebot T20, not only does it map the house, but it mops the house too - or so I thought.
Unpacking and setting up wasn't a problem at all. It's a large unit and takes up a decent amount of space. I ended up setting it up in my dining room.
First things first, after downloading the Ecovacs app, I mapped my house. I followed the vacuum around the house, making sure to close doors if need be, and blockaded areas that I didn't want the vacuum to map. This is where I hit my first issues. My house is not rectangular and broken up in to 'blocks' for each room. My entryway has a large spiral staircase in the middle of it. The rooms come off of that spiral staircase at some 45º angles, meaning that they too are not rectangular in shape. The vacuum mapped the ground floor the best it could, and at first I was pretty impressed. A nice 3D map showed up, but it had labeled lots of different nooks and crannies as separate rooms.
No problem I thought, being as in the app, you can edit, divide and combine rooms. So I started combining the 3 rooms that the vacuum had decided my master bedroom was, and joined them into one room. That worked fine. I was able to select one of the default names for the room as well, which was 'bedroom', but automatically showed as bedroom1 on the map. The app didn't allow me to change that name. I wanted to change it to Master Bedroom, or Main Bedroom, but I didn't see a way to be able to do that, so bedroom1 it remained. At least it was there.
I was also able to define furniture in there, I placed a bed and a sofa on my map, and was able to view it in 3D, that was pretty neat. But then I went to work on the rest of the ground floor.
The app would not allow me to divide up my kitchen from my living room. I wasn't able to split them up - I kept getting a 'Dividing failed, please try again' error, and no matter how many times I tried, it wouldn't split up my living room from my kitchen. There are two different floor types (wood and tile) and I only wanted to mop the tile. So now my house wasn't divided up how I wanted it to.
I erased everything from the map, and then remapped my house again. I got another good map of the house, but still, I couldn't split my kitchen from my living room. Maybe it's because I have 3 doorways into my kitchen. For some reason the app just wouldn't split my rooms. I googled it and on Reddit there were several comments about the dividing of rooms glitching out if they weren't perfectly lined up with walls and boundaries. Well one of my entrances to my kitchen isn't a doorway, the map actually put up a wall that isn't there.
In my living room, the map put up a wall where my sofa is. And as for laying 'furniture' in the app, on the map, you can only place it at right angles to a wall. Well my living room has a fireplace on a 45º angle to the room, and my sofa is an L shape that mirrors the 45º angle of the fireplace, so there was no way to associate the sofa with the room, as the angles offered were all 90º angles for the furniture on the map.
Anyways, mapping issues aside, I was able to get my dining room mapped, where the T20 was going to live. I set it to vacuum first (it's a carpeted area) and it set off and did a decent job. It mapped the area well when vacuuming and you could see the lines that it made in the carpet and did a thorough job of getting the dining room vacuumed. With my dividing issues, the entranceway was still part of my dining room, and as such, the vacuum transitioned from carpet to hand scraped wood floors. It did well there, but when it got to my rug, it sat there and chewed the corner. The instructions tell you to fold any loose edges of rugs underneath and that makes total sense. This is a dense rug with a hemmed edge. No tassels, nothing loose. Just a rug that has a non slip runner underneath. All 3 times I vacuumed the area, the vacuum went and chewed the edge of the rug and then asked to be moved. Once freed, it carried on and completed the task.
Well, I then decided to test out the mopping. I renamed the large combined area that is my now kitchen and living room together as 'Kitchen1'. I set the mop heads in place, filled the bucket and lo and behold the instructions recommend a specific Ecovacs cleaning solution. So in the price of this new vacuum, you would expect there to be a sample at least of this solution, but no, nothing to be found. So I had to go online and order the Ecovacs cleaning solution which was another $25. It arrived and I looked over the instructions. It tells you to fill up the water container to the line and then 'ADD THE RIGHT AMOUNT OF LIQUID'!!!! It literally didn't tell me in the instructions what the right amount of liquid was, not clearly etc. I ended up having to get out a magnifying glass, and saw that the diagram next to the instructions, it looks kind of like you have to put two capfuls of the liquid in the water bucket. But surely they could have just said that with WORDS in the instructions. So infuriating!
So I added two caps of liquid (assuming that was right) and set the bucket in the housing. I said 'OK YIKO' (the wake words) - Clean the Kitchen1. Yiko agreed and set to work. It started sucking up water, wetting the moping pads, warming water, hissing etc and then came out of the dock and stopped about a foot away from it. It sat there for a moment, visibly dropping water on the carpet in front of the dock and then simply said 'I can't find the Kitchen1' and returned to the dock. The carpet was nice and wet now, it never made it to the kitchen and didn't do any mopping of any sort.
So at this time, after having the vacuum for about 2 weeks, I am about to have to remap my home again and see if I can get the rooms all split up any better than they already are.
I really wanted to love this vacuum/mop, I was excited to use it and test it out, but at this time, it's left me underwhelmed and somewhat disappointed.
It did map the house fairly well from the get go. I could see where the layout was well defined, I could see areas that were lacking. I could see representations of my furniture. I was able to divide some rooms, and then some just wouldn't allow me to divide them. What that left me with was some pieces of my kitchen in my dining room, and a corridor area with wood floors joined as part of my carpeted dining room. I wanted them separate, but the app wouldn't let me.
And then to have the mop try and clean the carpeted area, I thought it would be 'smart enough' to know that it was on carpet and not on a mappable surface, but apparently not, being as it soaked my dining room carpet.
Overall, a great concept, I think it 'should' work, but it has some challenges with the layout of my house, and then the issues with the app not allowing me to divide up the rooms, almost makes it not useable. I will keep trying to map the house better, but it appears it can only do so much.

Tiny form that packs a punch!
on November 5, 2023
Posted by: Cupra
I've been a fan of JLab products for many years now. In fact my go-to ear buds for all my work meetings, Teams calls etc that are shared between my phone and my MacBook are with a set of JLab ear buds.
These JLab Mini True Wireless Earbuds take that previous form, and shrink it drastically. They are absolutely tiny! Almost to the point that the first time I put them in my ear, I was concerned I wasn't going to get them out again! Of course, that wasn't the case, they aren't 'that' small, but after 'regular' sized JLab earbuds, these really were tiny! And they offer the same functionality, the ability to connect to both a computer and a phone at the same time. This is useful when you are in a meeting with work for an example and you choose to answer a phone call, they automatically switch from your computer to your phone. And when you are done, they switch back to your computer. Very handy indeed.
Setting up is a breeze, and I recommend that you download the JLab app beforehand as well as that is where you get the full control of the earbuds. Within the app, once you've paired your headphones, you'll get to adjust the settings to your liking.
Be Aware: This gives you the ability to adjust the level of what you hear around you, or totally turn it off. There is a slider to adjust the levels to create a nice balance for you.
Equalizer: Here you have some preset levels you can select, or you can go totally custom with a 10-channel equalizer. You can save your presets and refer to them later, depending on if you are using the earbuds for music or if you are in meetings, or taking calls for example.
Touch Controls: Here you can set up your tap control preferences, e.g. one tap left for volume up, two taps right to skip to the next track etc. You have quite a few options to choose from - you just need to remember what they are! That will be the biggest challenge to start with, but once you've remembered what number of taps does what, you'll be fine!
Music Mode/Movie Mode: As the labels suggest this gives you the option to change between different sounds, based upon your listening preferences.
Safe Hearing: Here you can set the max limit for the volume. I have it set to 'default' and they sound great. You can set it a lot lower, 85dB to start with, 95dB in the middle and then 'default'.
Update Firmware: You will need to update the firmware as soon as you pair the headphones with your phone or computer. That is the nature of products these days, they are constantly enhanced and updated.
The app also shows you the charge level for the earbuds. They give around 5 hours of playback (in my experience) per outing, with a total of 20 claimed hours in the case, so they will definitely last you for the day in the office. The earbuds charge back up pretty quickly from the case, although the included instructions do mention how quick to get to x amount of charge.
They come with 2 other sets of earbud tips and a USB C charging cable. When using the largest earbud tips in my ears, I got the absolute best bass response from them! It felt like they really sealed around my ears and resonated the bass a lot better. Now, they won't win any SPL bass contests, but it's a nice full deep bass, especially for their size.
My test was with the latest Machine Head album, which has a variety of soft sounding, melodic songs, and intense, deep and heavy metal songs, so a good balanced test.
Overall, I am impressed once again with JLab and their ability to get great quality at an affordable price which is oh-so-rate these days. Would absolutely recommend them!

3D Motion Detection is Awesome!
on October 25, 2023
Posted by: Cupra
I have had Ring cameras as part of my security ecosystem for several years now, including the ring doorbell cam, multiple exterior cameras powered by solar panels, and an interior camera as well.
This new Stick Up Cam Pro ads a new dimension to that ring of security by offering 3D detection, meaning that you can see what the Ring camera sees, but it only detects motion a predetermined distance away from the camera. So for example, if you live on a busy street, you can set up the camera at the front of your house, and put a perimeter to the edge of your yard using the birds eye view from MapBox. This then sets the top down view limit at the edge of your property, so that vehicles going past beyond that point don't trigger the camera detection, only anything closer than that.
This in turn mitigates a lot of the false reports that you get during the day, if you live in a busy area. This is a superb addition to the camera. As you can see on my interior shots, there is a 'birds eye' window shown, that lets you see how far into the field of view someone is, so you can also prove that someone was on your property, by their proximity to the camera and that they are inside your predefined zone. This is a superb addition and will make a lot of people a lot happier about decreasing false alerts from busy traffic etc.
Aside from that, you can set up different motion zones to concentrate on (colored boxes), zones to ignore (black box) which also helps you get another layer of motion detection accuracy.
Talking of accuracy, the camera records in 1080p, with HDR and also has color night vision as well, so there shouldn't be any excuses for missing that critical shot. I did notice however, that when reviewing a recording, the first 3 or 4 seconds of playback tends to be a little bit pixelated and then it transitions to nice smooth, clear video. Just something to be aware of. All Ring cameras that I own, have done that.
The battery version allows you to mount it pretty much anywhere. Indoors or outdoors, it is waterproof. You can also power it with a cord (not included) or a solar panel (also not included), but in my experience, the solar panels are a great addition for worry free power, especially here in Texas. Set it and forget it as they say.
Ring cameras also integrate well with Alexa, so if you have any of the Alexa devices with screens, then you can simply call up the view of the camera on screen. 'Alexa, show me the Front Door' for example, and a view of that camera will be displayed on the screen. Really handy for instant visualization. You also have two way communication through the camera, you can speak to whoever is on screen as well. If you want to save your recordings, or capture a longer time frame than 7 days, you will need to subscribe to a Ring service plan. I have been subscribed for years and really appreciate the benefits that offers me.
Overall, this new added layer of protection, and decreased false notification justifies the existence of this Stick Up Cam Pro. I like the insight it offers to the field of view, the distance, trajectory, and motion of the subject, along with the ability to select specific areas of the field of view. Great addition to the Ring ecosystem.

Immersive First Person View (FPV) Drone Experience
on October 16, 2023
Posted by: Cupra
What an experience!
This is my second DJI drone - the first being a DJI Mini 3 Pro with a DJI RC screen-based controller. Unboxing the DJI Avata was a really nice experience in itself. The packaging is great quality and so are the look and feel of the drone, goggles and controller that you open up inside.
Unpacking everything, there is a little charge in the batteries, but in order to experience everything you have to charge them all up to full capacity, as there is quite a set up the first time you turn on the units. One thing to note is that this drone is required to be registered with the FAA, it is over the 250g weight limit, and also has to have Remote ID active (which I'll come to later).
Setting up the DJI Avata is a little more complicated than the Mini 3 Pro, as you have an extra piece of equipment to set up - the Goggles 2. Open up the DJI Fly app and it intuitively walks you through everything you need to get it all set up. This is crucial, as there are several steps.
I was having some challenges with the Goggles 2, I was able to power them on, I could hear the fans blowing to cool them down, I could use the touch pad, and when I did, what was supposed to be viewed on the Goggles, was displayed on my iPhone, and not the Goggles. I went back and forth trying to set them up, went through two battery cycles on the Goggles in fact trying to get them to work, but unfortunately, they were DOA (dead on arrival).
Reached out to DJI customer support and they were incredible. Sent me a return label the same day, I shipped it back same day, they received it the following day and confirmed the following day that the Goggles were in fact DOA. However, in my haste to return the Avata Pro-View Combo, I forgot to take out the 2x 128GB memory cards that I had put in them while setting them up.
2 days later, my brand new DJI Avata Pro-View Combo arrived and as I opened the brown box, neatly and securely on top of the brand new and sealed package, were my 2x 128GB memory cards in a clear envelope. I got chills. Customer service like this is unheard of, and was incredibly impressed!
I opened up the new set, charged all the batteries and set it all up in the DJI Fly app. This time, everything worked as it should, Goggles powered up and I could configure them. Everything was ready to go. Now, I mentioned Remote ID earlier on - the FAA has now mandated that the Remote ID signal must be active when flying, and to do that, you have to have your phone tethered to your Goggles 2 as well. So now you have not one cable hanging down to your pocket in the form of the battery, but you have to have another cord attached to your phone, with the DJI Fly app running on your phone while you fly. This is pretty cumbersome. DJI provides a connector adapter cable from USB C to USB A to then plug your iPhone cable (in my case) into. I chose to purchase an additional USB C to lightning coiled cable, to make it as unobtrusive as possible. You technically cannot fly without the Remote ID active - you will see a Remote ID error on screen in your Goggles otherwise.
Also - remember to take off the gimbal cover when you fly, otherwise you'll get a overload warning on the motor for your gimbal. On my Mini 3 Pro, I purchased a separate gimbal cover that covers the whole front end, so you HAVE to take it off to get the propellers out. I will have to look for a similar type of cover, as the Avata cover is quite small.
On to flying - what an incredible experience! With this being an expensive drone, I was wanting to be careful with it right out of the gate. Well, that nervousness went away in about 3 mins of flying. This is such a different flying experience to using the DJI RC screen controller. Using the joystick (Motion Controller 2) and the Goggles 2 really makes you feel like you are a tiny person inside the drone! You feel part of the drone, and the controller is incredibly intuitive. And it stops on a dime! I was initially just doing slow, low level flights in my back yard, but got faster and faster, and boy does this drone have some pace! Then I got to maneuvering in tighter and tighter spaces. It really is a fun experience, pretty exhilarating too!
Flying higher and higher above the house, I found some limitations compared to the Mini 3 Pro. The gimbal on the camera doesn't move side to side, just forward and back. So as I got higher, not only did the drone move side to side without stabilization, the camera also moved side to side with the drone, so all footage had that motion to it and I also got a 'high winds' warning in the Goggles display. Unfortunately we've had a lot of high winds recently, hence me being confined to my back yard, and low level flights!
The flight time on the Avata is about 15-18 mins. I saw 16 mins before I had to land it after some spirited speed runs. As you can see in the pictures, I had previously purchased a landing pad, which makes it easier to take off and land on grass without gumming up the blades with grass and debris. The Goggles battery and the Motion controller battery don't need to be charged up each time, their battery lasts a lot longer, but it doesn't hurt to keep them charged up. I will be purchasing the fly more kit for the Avata, as it really is a fun experience!
Now, my overall thought of the DJI Avata Pro-View is this: This drone has been designed for fast paced, exciting footage in tight spaces, with a fully immersive control system that makes you feel part of the action. It doesn't have all round collision avoidance (but thankfully I haven't crashed it) it has sensors on the bottom and warns you of low level flying, but that's it, outside of that, you are on your own.
Something like the DJI Mini 3 Pro is geared more for cinematic footage, a slower paced style of motion capture. They both have their place.
But the place that the Avata is, is truly exciting, I have thoroughly enjoyed the experience of flying the Avata, and that's what it is, an experience! You are part of the action. You feel like you are there inside the drone. Absolutely love it! And coupled with that exceptionally outstanding customer service, way to go DJI! Couldn't ask for better!
And to that end, I have also purchased the DJI Flyaway Insurance that they offer on both of my drones for that extra peace of mind.
Overall, an incredible experience and I am so glad to have options of how I want to fly now. Being part of the experience is so exhilarating!

Exactly what I needed to charge my drones faster!
on October 10, 2023
Posted by: Cupra
This Insignia 30W foldable USB C wall charger is exactly what I needed to really boost the charging speed for the batteries in my drones, and their controllers. Using this USB C charger has considerably increased the speed at which they charge and reduced the charging time immensely.
It is nice and ergonomically designed, it has a clear shell over a white base and then a silver looking plate on the front with the USB C port. On the back side, you have a two pin connection that folds away. That makes it really portable, I am able to put it inside the case for my drones and not worry about it scratching them up at all.
This is not dedicated to drones in any way, you can charge phones, tablets, laptops etc with it, but my primary goal was portability for when I am out and about, and a fast charging speed, which this compact wall charger meets and exceeds. It also has constant temperature monitoring built in, and adjusts accordingly to protect your device from overheating while charging. A definite plus there.
Overall, I am extremely happy with this charger and will more than likely be purchasing another couple as back up, as we all know how these like to grow legs and go missing, especially with kids around!

Philips 3200 Series Fully Automatic Espresso Machine w/ LatteGo, Black

Can it do cold drinks as well as hot? And what is the maximum volume it can brew? Can it brew a whole pot of coffee?

No, this machine does not do cold drinks. It has 5 pre-set coffee settings, and a hot water setting. It brews single cups at a time, so won't brew a whole pot at one time.
