Solid Shaver with Mixed Upgrades

The Philips Norelco Shaver 3600 is a solid shaver solution with some mixed upgrades.
I’ve been using Norelco shavers for decades and have yet to find one that does not produce a good, clean electric shave. They’ve simply dialed in what’s currently the best electric solution to a daily shave at an affordable price. They do offer some higher-priced solutions which are exceptional, but those in the range of the 3600 are just plain good. As far as a great daily shave, the 3600 is another solid product.
However, I do have one gripe regarding the 3600 and that is the charging solution. Being a long-time user of Norelco shavers I’m familiar with the unique connector all of my units have used. For some reason, the 3600 brings a change that is only halfway towards being useful - so it’s a nuisance for me instead. Although it retains nearly the same unique configuration for plugging into the unit as prior units have used, it introduces a notch so that I cannot use my previous charger interchangeably, as I’m used to doing. Not only that, but it does not come with a charging unit, only a cord that goes from a standard USB to the Norelco connector (in this case only fitting into the 3600). Why? This creates the need to keep a USB charger block and the new, proprietary cord with me. This is a blunder on Norelco’s part which I hope they will correct soon. The best solution would be to change their unique configuration and replace it with something standard like a USB-C connection - or leave it as it has been.
The thing is, Norelco shavers are great and long-lasting. So I assume there’s a need to create some kind of upgrades in order to induce fresh sales. With the 3600, I like the enhanced feel of the grip, the improved release-switch for cleaning, and the subtle style accents and custom shave-head cover. If only they hadn’t tried to ‘upgrade’ the charging solution - or had gone all the way.
I heartily recommend Norelco shavers, but have mixed feelings about the 3600.

Great Introduction to Personal Commuting

The GoTrax XR ADVANCE Commuting Electric Scooter is a great introduction to the world of personal commuting solutions at an affordable price.
The scooter came in a single box, well packaged, mostly assembled and easy to unpack. The only assembly required is attaching the control unit (with handle-bars) on top of the steering stand. Although it was easy and simple (and comes with an Allen wrench - the only tool you need), I did feel unsure about the assembly when only referencing the included instructions. However, a quick search on YouTube provided a number of short videos giving me the clarity and assurance I needed. It was assembled in just a few moments and then plugged into charge overnight - all ready to go in the morning.
This is my first time with an electric scooter as an adult. I weigh around 145 with a heavy backpack and the scooter is able to reach its max speed of 15 MPH just fine. It's 6 miles round trip from work and home, mostly flat ground, and there's plenty of battery to spare. I'm going 10-15 MPH for most of that trip. It goes from 0 to max speed in about 7 or 8 seconds.
Hitting small bumps is fine, though it causes the scooter to wobble a bit so I do my best to avoid them. I'm sure this is normal. Bumpy roads are not fun to ride on and I try to avoid them but the scooter does decent enough with them. I don't plan on going off-road; the manual suggests that I shouldn't anyway. Going up an incline, it still managed to reach 8-9 MPH. It can go pretty fast going downhill but the brakes feel smooth and effective. Maneuvering also felt good; I can make sharp turns pretty easily.
It has a headlight and a back reflector which is really nice but I don't plan on using this at night for safety reasons! But I'm glad it's there. It's also great that it folds and unfolds fairly easily and is easy to carry when folded.
Overall: I love it even more than I thought I would. Fun and easy to ride, perfect for getting around town. Looking forward to using it more.

A Solid, Practical, and Useful Solution

The Logitech Zone 300 Wireless Bluetooth Headset is just right as a practical, day-to-day earphone solution - especially when combining your personal computer with your phone. The solid and seamless ability to simultaneously connect to two devices via bluetooth at the same time is huge.
Phone calls are clear and the noise-cancelling mic brings the sound of the caller's voice in close. For me, being able to be paired with my laptop (or AppleTV) at the same time is what makes this headphone stand out. Once paired with both devices, it automatically re-paired immediately each time I turned it on. When I changed one of the paired devices, it was equally easy to put it into pairing mode and get set.
I like the small size factor of the ear-pads and the light weight. It just feels easy to carry around and quick to use. The pads were comfortable to keep on for an extended time and the controls are very easy to work with. The microphone swings up and out-of-the-way with such ease it's hardly noticeable. A nice touch is the fact that it automatically mutes when you do lift the mic up.
The sound is good. These are not for audiophiles, but they do a good job of bringing the sound in when you're watching video clips on your laptop - and even when watching videos on a streaming device - like with my AppleTV. I actually felt like the bass was a bit too strong when I first used them, but there's a great fix for that. You can download the Logitech app 'Tune', pair it with the headset and go in and tweak the EQ settings to your taste. Once doing so, it will keep your new settings whether or not you're connected to the app.
As a quick and easy solution for handling phone calls along with hearing what's on your computer, this is a solid product.

Good Starter Kit for Flying Drones

The Snaptain - E10 1080P Drone with Remote Controller is an impressive product for an entry-level drone experience. I was impressed with the packaging and how well it fits into the nice case that comes with it. Setting it up was fairly straightforward, though the start-up instructions could have been a bit clearer. The batteries and controller take awhile to charge so it’s best to charge them overnight. For some reason, I could only charge them when using the very short cord supplied. They did not charge when using them on other USB-C charging cables, even though I tried them with a variety of chargers. This limited getting everything charged as there are 2 batteries and 1 controller and they takes awhile to charge.
The drone is small when folded and unfolds to @ 1 foot square. Very nice to fold it and tuck it away in such a compact case. It came with 4 propeller protectors. On my first flight I knocked them all off, which was totally my fault because I had not put them in right (I actually put them in upside down). Once that was taken care of, they were very secure. Nice. But you do need to take them off again when you pack everything up (or simply elect to not use them).
Once it was all charged and the app downloaded - and synced with the E10’s wifi - it was ready to go. At this point it was fairly simple to get started thanks to the easy start and land button. As an entry-level drone, it does not have crash avoidance, a sophisticated ‘return to home’ feature, or offer image stabilization. That means you need to be careful if you’re a novice. I found it very responsive to my input and the image was excellent. I like that you can adjust the camera’s view up and down and keep it directed in one direction while moving the drone.
I did have a problem the first time I sent it up 2 stories high. The controller battery was weak (probably not fully charged as I had thought) and it lost connection. The controller was flashing at me, but there were no alert sounds, so I was thrown off. The main lesson from this is to be sure that the controller is fully charged as well as the batteries.
I do like the fact that it comes with 2 batteries.

Pro and Serious Gamers Should Check This Out

The Nacon - Revolution 5 Pro Wireless Controller with Hall Effect Technology and Remappable Buttons for PS5, PS4 and PC is a full-featured pro controller.
Note: Please keep in mind that this review is based on using it on a Playstation 4 only.
Set up was simple but the lack of an in-depth instruction booklet made it take a little longer than it should have. The controller has several swappable attachments for analog sticks, D-pad, and internal weights to adjust the weight and feel of the controller, and a carrying case. The weight of the controller without internal weights feels nearly as heavy as an official PS controller. It doesn't feel light weight or cheap.
Connected well with my PS4, no connection issues, and the battery life was impressive. Triggers can be customized, which is great. Default D-Pad is an 8-way circle pad but I swapped it for the 4-way D-pad and it felt much better. 8-way didn’t feel as responsive. Buttons feel responsive, clicky, and even better than an official PS controller. The grips feel great. I have small hands, and the controller felt bulkier than a standard PS controller. I got used to the size quickly but it would be even better suited for someone with bigger hands, I would think.
The USB-C Charging cord is thick and heavy so it didn’t feel comfortable to use while playing, almost making the controller feel too heavy. This cord can be used to play with the controller wired to the console. Because the USB-C port is so deep in the controller, it did not fit my own USB-C cable. I had to use the heavy long cable the controller came with.
It can connect to bluetooth headphones - which is really cool. Also, the Hall effect Technology appears to eliminate any concerns over eventual drifting problems.
The controller cannot power on the PS4 or PS5, unlike a standard/original controller from Sony, and it will not ‘rumble’ when used with the PS5.
All-in-all it’s a great, full-featured, pro controller, best suited for competitive play and esports. Pro and serious gamers should definitely consider the Nacon Revolution 5 Pro.

Great B/W Printing - Additional Features are Mixed

I have slightly mixed feelings about the Brother - HL-L2480DW Wireless Black-and-White 3-in-1 Laser Printer. I’ve used and loved B/W laser printers for over a decade and have a great appreciation for their ability to print black and white documents quickly, cleanly, and crisply. The Brother - HL-L2480DW does that very well. An added plus is it’s large, 250 sheet, capacity paper tray. As a basic, B/W laser printer, it is excellent.
I begin to experience mixed feelings when it comes to the multi-function features and the initial setup.
The initial setup was mostly straight-forward.
However, for some reason, I had more trouble than expected getting the printer connected to my computer and app. It felt like the instructions were missing some information and the app feels a bit old - as if ported from Android to Apple, rather than written with Apple in mind. The app has had an update since my initial install and appears to be improved.

* For some reason, the quality of my scans are not as good as the quality of the copies I’ve made. Even after increasing the resolution. Scans are in color, though, and I was able to easily set up the printer to scan to my Dropbox account.
* Once again, the lack of a document-feeder means this feature (as with making copies) is best for casual use.
* The small LCD screen is very helpful and was key to getting the initial setup to work and for adjusting various settings.
* Although it cannot feed documents in duplex mode, it prints duplex pages (front and back) very well.

The Brother HL-L2480DW excels at printing crisp black-and-white pages quickly. With its large-capacity paper tray, it’s ideal as a document printer. As for its added features, I recommend considering those as a minor addition when evaluating this printer. If you need to scan or copy multi-page documents on a regular basis, you should look for another model.

Great Concept • Useful Text Alerts • Weak Siren

An unfortunate fact of modern living is that the need for a personal safety alarm is becoming increasingly common. As this is still a relatively new market, there’s a lot of variety in what’s being offered and just which approach is going to be the most helpful. Ultimately the goal is to offer a tangible degree of protection which, in turn, will offer some peace of mind to those using these devices.
The Swann - ActiveResponse Personal Safety Alarm Keychain with 110dB Emergency Siren is one of these offerings.
Overall, I have mixed feelings about this product.
The size is right in the sweet spot between being too large or too small. It was easy to pair it with my smartphone via bluetooth. It has 2-3 key features: 1) Being able to silently trigger an alert sent via SMS text to the emergency contact(s) of your choice (along with an approximate location based on the last trackable hit), 2) The ability to set off a sonic alarm to frighten perps and alert others nearby, and 3) for a $5 monthly subscription, you can also have 911 services notified.
The combination of these features represent an excellent solution - in theory. Unfortunately, the Swann - ActiveResponse Personal Safety Alarm Keychain with 110dB Emergency Siren needs some improvements before it’s truly ready for prime time. The silent text alert is its strongest feature. My contact received an alert immediately, along with indication of my last known location. This feature alone might make it worth the purchase. However, the Swann also emphasizes the protective effects of the local emergency siren triggered by pulling the ring on top of the unit. This is where the implementation falls short in two ways: 1) It is way too hard to pull the ring and set off the siren. I had 2 other people try it (my adult daughter and adult son). They both found it almost impossible to do unless the key ring was attached, and even then, found it hard to pull. 2) The emergency siren does not seem loud enough (or ’shrill’ enough?) to have full confidence in it’s effect on a perp, or that it would be heard by those nearby over other sounds - especially if in a noisy crowd.
I like the concept of the Swann - ActiveResponse Personal Safety Alarm Keychain with 110dB Emergency Siren and, as mentioned, the text-alert feature is well implemented (and may be worth the price alone). However, in order to recommend it, I would want to see the 2 issues with the emergency siren addressed. Hopefully, Swann will correct these soon. If they do, they’ll have a great product that will be just what many are looking for.

Full-Featured, Easy-to-Use, and Solidly Built

Video doorbells have become a much-needed, if not essential, part of living in the world of Amazon purchases (our go-to store), meal deliveries (one of these days), heightened security concerns, and the need to juggle welcoming guests when away from home.
Although I’ve had a number of security cams set up in different locations, including the front porch area, this is my first video doorbell. The Arlo - Smart Wi-Fi Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) has been a great step up.
The Arlo - Smart Wi-Fi Video Doorbell has full-features and is solidly built. I was surprised at its weight, which added to the sense of a well-built product. Installation and set-up were both wonderfully easy. First thing is to unpack the unit, charge it, and get the ‘Arlo Secure’ app for your smartphone. Once charged, use the included tool to push the pairing button, pair with your bluetooth and then use the app to complete the set-up process. All easy to understand and follow. It was up and running right away. Note that this model can work with batteries or can be set up for direct power.
The Arlo video doorbell comes with a 3-month free trial subscription to their monitoring service. It includes 30 days of cloud recording. I am still in the trial period, however it’s my understanding that, if you do not renew the subscription, you still have up to 7 days to save recordings on your phone or computer.
The Arlo gives me almost immediate notice when someone comes to the door (motion detection). When they push the doorbell it rings on my phone no matter where I am. I can look and see who is there (live) and have a conversation if needed. Videos initiated by motion or ringing the doorbell are saved on my phone for review. Helpful for seeing activity. Currently I have it ‘armed’, so I get a notice of anyone leaving, as well as coming into, the home.
I recommend the Arlo - Smart Wi-Fi Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) - Wired/Battery Operated with 2K Resolution.

An Impressive Product

TVs have come a long way with incredible large, bright, high-resolution screens offering streaming apps and casting capabilities. Very impressive. Except for one thing: As much as modern TVs have improved in so many ways, they simply cannot offer a quality of sound to match their image. This is not hard to understand since we want thin screens and big, w-i-d-e sound - and they just don’g go together.
Enter the exploding market for soundbars and surround-sound systems. Like TVs, sound systems created to compliment modern TVs have also come a long ways. A full system with a powerful subwoofer will give you a sound that rivals the cinemas. But it will typically cost $1,500+. The value of that purchase will likely depend on just how big your screen setup and room is.
For those who have a smaller setup, or who want multiple TV locations with solid sound, there’s a vastly-improved alternative offering truly exceptional sound: the mini-soundbar. These are usually single, self-contained soundbars that are capable of offering solid bass without relying on a separate subwoofer. The Sennheiser - AMBEO Soundbar Mini Compact Device with Adaptive Features and Multiple Connectivity is an excellent example.
The AMBEO mini offers strong, solid, high-quality sound with a bass tone that rounds out the tonal landscape very well. The bass won’t rattle the windows, but neither will it leave you feeling like you’re missing the low end. Basically, for half the price of a normal system, you get a fullness of sound that rivals the larger offerings. The only caveat is that it will lose its impact if used in a large room.
I found the AMBEO mini easy to set up. Just plug it in, connect it, and you’re immediately enjoying rich sound. But that’s just the beginning. You’ll want to get the app so you can customize the sound, or simply choose from a large selection of EQ settings. I found it definitely enhanced dialog when watching movies and television shows, and the music settings made a variety of musical styles really pop. It easily connects to sound sources via bluetooth and offers a variety of digital assistants (Alexa, Siri, etc).
One thing to consider, the ‘multiple connectivity’ in the name is not referring to standard connections. The AMBEO mini only offers 1 USB and 1 HDMI port. Although bluetooth is making this issue less important, it is worth noting for your own intended application.
All-in-all, the Sennheiser - AMBEO Soundbar Mini Compact Device with Adaptive Features and Multiple Connectivity is a great value and impressive product.

Genuine Slice of Nostalgia & Instant Gratification

How much does a genuinely nostalgic experience cost? The Polaroid - Now Instant Film Camera (Gen 2) gives us an answer. It accurately replicates the look and size of the original, iconic Polaroid cameras - along with much of the experience. And yet, it does that while including some helpful modern features. Along with the two-lens system, it includes a rechargeable battery using a USB-C port. Very convenient. The packaging was simple and easy to open. It includes a paper insert with quick set up instructions which was nice. Overall very easy to use, I inserted the film I purchased and then took a photo.
Note: The Polaroid - Now Instant Film Camera (Gen 2) is NOT a camera for any kind of serious photography. It’s strength is the experience it offers:
* The (almost) Instant Gratification of holding a printed image in your hand to easily show others and pass around.

Why 4 stars instead of 5?
It does not include film - an unexpected disappointment.
It does not mention how long it takes for the film to develop after being ejected from the camera. That's important because you might expose the film too soon. I had to look up that information online. I also thought it wasn't very clear about being careful not to expose the film to any light while developing. With the first photo, when it ejected, I took it out in order to place it face down on a table (which uncovered it from the black protective cover attached to the camera ). That photo didn't seem to fully develop properly, I could see it but it was washed out. For the second photo, I left it attached to the camera so the protective cover stayed on and then put the camera in a dark room. That photo came out better.
A genuine slice of nostalgia and instant gratification.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Apartment use. Currently have a TimeWarner modem router and an extender in living room. parts of living room are slow and gaps. will these replace the modem router and will range be better?
I had a similar set-up as you describe. You will still need the modem function of your modem router to supply the internet signal from TimeWarner, but if you connect via ethernet from your existing modem router to the ORBI system, you should get a stronger system and better speed. I'm not with TimeWarner, but I had purchased and was using a modem router. After installing ORBI as described above, the strength and speed of my signal increased measurably. Remember that the wifi cannot make the speed greater than what arrives via your provider, but a better system, such as the ORBI, can bring the wireless signal closer to the actual ethernet speed. That's what it did for me.

So if it comes with two, I'm assuming you have one that internet is linked to by cable and the other is used as a extender? Or do you have to have both units hooked to cable?
You are correct. There is the Router unit, which must be connected by ethernet to your cable or dsl provider, and there is the Satellite unit which connects wirelessly with the main Router unit and extends the same signal with the same wifi name.

Will this product cover a 2000 sq. ft., one level house with only one (1) WiFi Name? The reason for this question is I'm currently using an extension to my router which has given the front of the house a different wifi name from the back of the house.
Yes. That's one of the advantages of this system versus a basic range extender, with the ORBI it's all the same wifi name. Plus, if you desire, you can pick up the satellite unit and move it according to you needs. It only takes 1-2 minutes for it to reconnect with the main router.
