I use it in...:Small office
Verified Purchase:Yes
You can get off-brands for half the price, and hopefully these will drop, as more vendors get into the market, but I prefer Netgear to anyone else, because of their product reliability.
Absolutely no setup. 1-connect to the router, 2-plug the 1st one in a dedicated AC outlet, 3-do the same wherever you want in the same building, then connect your device, the same way. 4-get online!
I've set up several of these, and had only one kit not work well, and the configuration was somewhat different than "normal", but all else have been remarkably simple, set-and-forget, wonderful technology.
The only setup to be careful about, is using the adapter with a switch, and multiple connections. A single connection is guaranteed success.

What's great about it: Super-simple, reliable, fast throughput
What's not so great: Price
I would recommend this to a friend!

Sony USB Wi-Fi Adapter

I have a 2011 Sony Blu-Ray Disc player, model BDP-S380, that I want to connect to my LAN. According to the manual, this player connected wirelessly with a special Sony adapter, model UWA-BR100. But this item has been discontinued. Are there any suitable replacements? Does Best Buy carry them?
Assuming it also has an ethernet port, use a set of "AC Home Plug" adapters. Marvelous devices, and very stable, fast, and secure. (My humble opinion after almost 30 years experience, is to use only Netgear.)

do all routers have to be wired to a modem

i have to hard wire my swann cameras/dvr to a router . does the router have to to be wired to a modem? are there wireless modems .. i do not want the dvr next to the office equipment
Yes! Modems only hand out 1 address, and only with a wired connection (as of 2014!), so your router takes the single address, and hands several to (wired or wirelessly) connected devices. Maybe use wireless extenders, or "Home Plug adapters"?
Maybe next year...

This adapter seems to be causing windows 7 to blue screen occasionally. Any idea why and is there a fix?

Try getting the latest updated driver from Netgear, ensuring 32- or 64-bit compatibility. Otherwise, I'd look at your adapter or os. I've used it in Win7 with no issues.
