Set up and configuration - probably best to leave to someone who knows what they're doing, or at least has experience with them.
There are cameras with more infrared LEDs around the lenses with greater range in darkness, but if you have street lights nearby (or somewhat reflective surfaces for the rays to bounce off of, you'll get better night time vision.
I love that there is an app for your computer and for your smart phone, so you can check the view from the cameras at any time.
I don't know that this is particularly the best system out there, but it's affordable and it does the job well.

Weak to no night vision but otherwise great

The cameras only have 1 infrared diode on them, so you can't count on them in very dark conditions, but if you have an area with street lights (or night lights if used indoors) they work pretty well. The video quality in daylight is very good.
This is a good starter set, the DVR will accommodate twice the number of cameras it ships with so you can expand if you like, which is what I plan on doing.
The DVR takes some getting used to with the controls, but if you need to review a period of time from one or more of the cameras, it's not difficult and it works well. the recordings even mark the sections where motion was detected and can skip those sections without motion. Caution with this because a breeze blowing leaves or flying insects that come in camera range will register as motion, but you can fast forward if you need.
Get an installer who knows what they are doing, particularly for setting up the DVR. Once it's set up, you're set. Until you decide you want to install more cameras or upgrade to cams with better night vision.
I would recommend to a friend, the caveat being that they are not in a very dark area and want to monitor the place at night.

I'm using it that way to hold my iTunes library for my Mac. I have it connected to my Time Capsule. It should work on a PC as well, but I'm not good at telling one how to do it. You'll need to have it mounted across the wifi network onto your PC in order to use it though.

Yes, after a fashion. There are infrared LEDs around the camera lenses that say would give you visibility for 100' (or 150' depending on the camera). The cameras shipped with this unit are pretty good in pitch black conditions but you only have a small area that would be illuminated.
It's best if you have an infrared light outside or reflective surface about 10 feet from the camera to spread the light, or if there are street lights to add some lighting to the scene. There are cameras with double the IR LEDs around the lense, but they tend to be very expensive. It would be more cost effective to put an infrared bulb in an outdoor light fixture if you were going to go that route.

Is there a lag time in the feed when watching from the app?
Not really. Maybe a half second if that.
I swapped out one of my cameras for a different model (nothing wrong with the camera, just wanted to see what this new model was like), and the installer wanted to re aim one of the cameras. I bought up that camera's feed on my smart phone and he used that to check the aim. No noticeable delay.

Looking at this Night Owl to set up at my home. Need 3-4 cameras and the recorder unit. Does it come with everything I will need? (cables, etc) Also, how do you view what it records?
Yes, it has everything you need - cameras, cables, DVR. Even mounting hardware, I do believe.
I recommend getting an installer who has experience with these things, the DVR was a bit quirky to set up. The guy I had do the installs does it for a living.
You can connect the DVR to a second video input on your TV. Select that input and you're looking at the camera feeds. Or you can view the feeds on a tablet or smart device.

Cameras are cabled to a dedicated DVR which is connected to your cable modem. The DVR is connected to the TV (or to home theater amplifier/receiver then to the TV).
There are Android and iOS apps that will let you view the cameras and playback on your tablet or smart device.
You would need some way to stream the video from the tv the DVR is connected to to another one. Or some smart devices might be able to push their displays to the tv.
It MIGHT be possible, but as designed and built, the DVR is only connected to one tv. I tend to use the app on my tablet and smart phone when i want to view the feed rather than another tv.

Does this system require a "backup storage system" to replay timeframes or does it come included in the camera? How can I replay previous days?
The Night Owl system I plugged this camera into has a DVR, so yes you can go back I think 30 days and replay the recording from any of the cameras. I like that they flag the timeline when motion is detected and when playing back recorded video, you can get it to skip those portions where no movement was detected. Pretty nifty.
Only problem with motion detection, a slight breeze moving leaves or an insect flying close to the lense will flag it as motion, but you can still skip a lot of nothing.
