In just about every category of TV rating--brightness, contrast, color,motion, etc.--this set is an above average performer among LCDs. And that versatility becomes a quality all its own--there's no real weak spot to this set, except for the slightly sluggish Android TV interface. HDR, whether Dolby Vision or HDR10, looks amazing with the right material. Video games in HDR in particular are stunning via PS4 Pro.

Great, "future-proof" receiver

There's probably no such thing as future proof with home theater products, but this receiver ticks off most of the boxes for the time being. Dual HDMI outputs, 8 inputs, all HDMI 2.0a for 4K/HDR support. Dolby Atmos and DTS: X support (although limited to just two speakers).
I had an Onkyo receiver before but was wary of them with their recent HDMI troubles. I miss some of their audio presets and feel it was a little punchier for home theatre vs. music, but this Denon is a competent, all-around receiver. Denon app works decently as a remote when it works, which is a bit spotty at times.

What are the major differences between this and the 850f?
850f is an IPS panel (except for maybe the 85" version--that size often uses a VA panel while the others are IPS). IPS sacrifices contrast for viewing angle, so in a dark room, blacks appear grayish, but the picture doesn't wash out as much when viewed from the side. All 900f are VA panels, which have superior contrast in a dark room, but sacrifice viewing angles.
Additionally, the 900F has local dimming, which further enhances its ability to display deep blacks. It also has a bit of an upgraded video processor, which also allows it to do Dolby Vision in addition to HDR10 (which the 850F supports), and the 900F has a slightly wider color gamut (although both have wide color gamuts). The 850F is bright enough for HDR to look good, but the 900F is one of the brighter 2018 LCD models.
The 850F, except for maybe the 85", which might be a VA panel, is best suited for a relatively bright room with wide seating arrangements. The 900F is a step up TV and is superior, although the 85", if VA, would close the gap somewhat.

Yes. It will accept 1080, 1440, and 2160 signals without difficulty at 60Hz. 1080p 120 Hz is supported but must be manually added in Windows. Lag is decent in 1080, but very good at 4k. Make sure you're in game mode for the low input lag. It does not have the features that the 2018 Samsungs have with variable refresh rates/FreeSync, but it's overall very satisfactory as gaming TV. I haven't done much HDR gaming via PC as HDR gaming doesn't seem to be as fine-tuned on PC as on consoles, but SDR gaming on PC is great looking and HDR gaming on PS4 Pro is spectacular.
