Good Replacement for Our Old DC14

This new ball configuration is much easier to move. The suction is at least twice that of our old Dyson. Those are the really good points for this vacuum.
Now for the could be better --
The vacuum head sets so close to our hardwood and title floors that it can not pick up small rocks that the dogs bring in. The size of the container that collects the dirt is smaller than our old one. This requires a lot of stops to empty and seems to make the job run longer than it use too. The action to lock the handle/canister in the upright position only works about 30% of the time. So it takes multiple attempts to get it to function.

HOW DIFFICULT IS IT TO PUSH/PULL VAC OVER MEDIUM PILE CARPET
IS IT APPROPRIATE FOR HARDWOOD FLOORS??
The two bedrooms that have carpet (the rest of the house is hardwood & tile) are both medium pile and this vacuum is easier to move across than our old Dyson.

Will the dyson DC65 scratch my hardwood floors?
I have hardwood/cork/porcelain tile in my home. I am very afraid that the dyson will scratch my hardwood floors.
The vacuum it self has not scratch any of our hardwood or tile. However, because the head sets so close to the floor/tile it is possible for small rocks to not be sucked up and those could scratch your floor.
