Nice unit with HIGH Joules Rating

That's about it, except for the nice little light that tells you it is still "unmolested" by a voltage spike... It is nicely compact and has the best Joules per dollar ratio of any other unit I looked at. (Joules are how much power it can shunt away from your equipment before failing...)

Perfect for Me & much better than first Onkyo...

Let me list up front the worst things about this Yamaha, compared to the similar Onkyo TX-SR353 that I had paid about $60 less for:
- While they both have stupid gray-on-black labels, the Onkyo was not as insulting to my eyesight as the Yamaha... I COULD read the face of the main unit on the former, but with the smaller, duller Yamaha labels I HAVE to use the remote.
- Speaking of the remote, the Yamaha lacks both the dedicated Treble & Base rocker buttons, and even a Display or Info button to mimic the Info button on the front display of the unit.
Now for the more IMPORTANT aspects: The Onkyo would not work properly with my simple Comcast X1-to-Receiver-to-Sony XBR TV... The HDMI/ARC/CEC functions are listed in the Onkyo's advertising and little "Quick Start" guide, but in the full manual downloaded from their site, and in USE, there are several provisos about the unit not being guaranteed to work with the back & forth data. In my case, turning off the (2016) Sony TV did NOT turn off the amp, but instead switched it to another Input... Worse, turning the TV back on did not return the amp to the appropriate input. These were deal-breakers for both inconvenience as well as power & heat when not in use, installed behind a closed cabinet door.
The Yamaha has similar audio properties - and neither one is entirely intuitive when it comes to inputs & outputs - but it does exactly what it is SUPPOSED to do: Turn off the TV & the amp turns off; Turn the TV back on and the amp turns back on to the same input.
In summary, acoustically similar for sound power & features, about 700 Watts which is plenty for a non-audiophile, but the CEC controls thru the HDMI cables work as advertised.

Build your home cinema system around this Onkyo 5.1-channel A/V receiver. It includes audio decoders that translate 5.1 sound for the perfect listening experience, and discrete amps ensure completely accurate audio control. Upconvert your video using HDMI, or use the integrated Bluetooth to stream to this Onkyo 5.1-channel A/V receiver directly from your smartphone.

Great Sound, but lousy interconnection...

Spent a day installing & adjusting this thing with my VERY simple Sony TV & Comcast X1 Box.... Everything eventually worked beautifully - until I turned it OFF!
It turns out, unlike the main advertising and the tiny manual included with the unit, when you download the complete manual from their website that this unit is NOT guaranteed to work with HDMI ARC & CEC... What this means, in my case, is that turning off the TV does NOT turn off the Onkyo, but rather the unit switched to another INPUT! (Check the Web about this...) If it would switch BACK when you turn the TV back on, it wouldn't be a big deal - but it doesn't. It keeps running & generating heat, but doesn't 'click' back to the Cable Box input when you turn the TV back on... This is a complete deal-breaker when the Onkyo is in a cabinet where the infrared can't get to it...
I replaced it with a Yamaha that works perfectly with the HDMI/ARC/CEC system, but I will admit that the Onkyo has a much better Remote Control.

Excellent Salesman, Excellent Deal...

This is my first Sony, and I'm very happy with a 55-inch, 4K, UHD, HDR10, LCD/LED set for a sale price of $700 (plus a hefty full-service Geek Squad 5-year service contract.)
I'm sure that I can't use full names, but 'Robert' at the Salem Oregon Best Buy was reeeeeally helpful in bringing me up to speed (yes, this is my FIRST flat-panel TV...) I'm not a hyper-cinema guy, but I did need a set with good brightness in a large great-room, loudness until I get a Dolby system going, and a WIDE viewing capability across that large room. I can't imagine how much better the 2 higher-level models get, but this 700d series Sony is just great! 50% volume will blow you out of the room despite what others have said, and the picture, resolution & color do NOT change across the full stated 178 degrees of view...
The web's reviews always seemed to concentrate on how deep the colors & contrast are with (limited) HDR content, or how well it upscales HD content to near-UHD... Well, what I was concerned with is actually what is proudly proclaimed on the side of the box (and even the box on the 55" is well engineered for unpacking!): "Upscale Everything You Watch!".
I and my Christmas guests were amazed at how much better regular SD programming looks on a screen that is over twice the size of the conventional SD television that it replaced! It used to be that stretching limited resolution to a larger screen gave you a worse picture. Not so with the computer 'engines' in this set. Once you get all the (MANY) settings the way you want, you never worry whether a given channel has an HD version - though I was surprised how many 'basic' channels DO now have HD versions up in the 700's on Comcast...
Unlike the higher models, this set has LEDs arrayed evenly across the back of the set instead of using edge lighting on two sides and light-pipes... Originally I liked the fact that this created less concentrated heat on the store model, even though it makes the TV a bit thicker. But really, just how thin does it need to be? More importantly, even without the added contrast benefit of 'local dimming' that they did NOT program into it, I have to say that the brightness is absolutely dead even from corner to corner.
All of the Smart TV features are great, from Youtube to Crackle (a Sony/Columbia TV & movie internet channel) to Chromecast-ability... There is another function for cellophones, but with Chrome & "Videostream" on your regular computers you can flash anything on your drive or on the web onto your nice, big hi-def television. However, to be fair, I've yet to find an app for true web-surfing, and I'm not sure if the TV will take a Bluetooth keyboard/mouse... It does work with BT headphones.
Well, I think that is it for now. Despite spending $160 on the 5-year Service Plan, I'm hoping & expecting to get many years of pleasure from this television - or should I say this "small computer with a great big monitor"?

Does this unit receive FM HD signals?

Nope, just regular FM. (FM works well, AM not so much.)

Is this receiver considered to be a CAT 2 receiver ?

You have me curious... The only "CAT 2" I know are trailer-hitch ratings and OLD Ethernet cable.

Does it have video upscaling capability like the Pioneer?

It doesn't DO the upscaling, like my new UHD Sony TV, but it "supports" 4K UHD & HDCP 2.2...

If I have 4 ceiling speakers hooked up(2 in living room, 2 in kitchen), can I turn the 2 in the kitchen off when not needed by changing settings on the receiver?

Technically yes. There is a NON-surround option (that can be programmed to the colored buttons on the remote) that switches to 2-channel or 5-channel Stereo.
So, if you're not using a surround setup in the living room, just 2 speakers in one room and 2 more in the other, you could connect the living room to the 'front' speaker terminals & the kitchen to the 'rear' terminals, and they'd all run on the 5CH setting but only the living room would run on the 2CH setting.

How can I hook up my yamaha 700w 5.1 to my 2.1 sub woofer and speakers

You can manually program - and the unit can also auto-sense - 2.1 or 3.1 setups.

Does the rear surround speakers handles the same watts as the front speakers???? Is the Watts the same on all 4 speakers?? Not talking about the Sub-Woofer.

Per my owner's manual, all channels are rated within 10 watts of each other.

Will the bluetooth pair up with my samsung #UN65JU6700 ULTRA 4K TV? I would like to stream youtube from the TV to a stereo. I bought a samsung gigasound stereo with bluetooth but i am beginning to think my TV is just a receiver and not a transmitter.

I think you are correct... My 4K UHD Sony only takes Bluetooth input in general, and Sony-only wireless speakers for output.
