My Yamaha receiver had a channel die on it and as it was almost 10 years old I opted to buy a new unit. I would have replaced it with another Yamaha unit but I have a Pioneer Elite Kuros flat screen TV which I love and have had ZERO problems with, I decided to try the Pioneer Elite receiver. The price and overall unit functions between the Yamaha and Pioneer recievers were almost identical. I think the major difference between this Pioneer unit and my old Yamaha unit if the new Pioneer unit is HD so the sound and video is much improved! I also like the built in wifi. I have updated the firmware and can stream directly through this unit. The Pioneer SC LX701 is not cheap, but I believe you get what you pay for. My only complaint right now is Pioneer says it was simplifying the remote. Yes, there are not as many function buttons on the remote. In fact, there doesn't seem to be enough! You will have to have a video display to navigate through the functions. In time, I may like this feature, but I am not accustomed to this.

Good speakers for the money

Returned the Bose Companion 5 speakers because I needed longer wires for the speakers and Bose does not have accessory speaker extensions for their proprietary connections. My good fortune was buying these Logitech Z533 speakers, spending less than a third of what the Bose Companion speakers cost and I am happy with the sound! My only complaint is the volume puck is hard wired directly to the subwoofer which limits it's wiring convenience. If it were detachable it would be much easier to fish it through furniture. I had to cut a 4 inch hole in the back of my desk to get the puck on my desktop. The puck cable is rather short too, maybe 6 feet long.
