Great Camera is Nearly Perfect
on March 20, 2024
Posted by: BADog
Logitech has released their new MX Brio Ultra HD 4K PC webcam. The box includes the webcam, USB-C cable, magnetic mounting bracket, and quick user guide/paperwork. The monitor comes with a manufacturer's 1-year warranty.
PROS:
-----------
* The quality of the camera casing and lens area is exceptional. It's quite heavy (and heavy-duty) for a webcam. The flat black color is classy too.
* The video is what you're paying for, and it is also exceptional. The PC you use will need to be able to handle the processing power to use 2K & 4K modes. If it can't, you still have normal HD/FHD modes that can be used in the LogiTune app.
* The dual microphones on this thing are - Exceptional. Hard to believe a mic on a webcam can sound the same as a high-quality headset. That was the reaction I got from my team on my Microsoft Teams call today. I had used a very nice headset with boom mic before switching to the webcam... when I swapped over to this webcam with mic, they said the audio was identical to the high-quality headset. That's impressive. The mics also have the ability to focus on the user and filter out other noise not in the conversation with the use of beamforming.
* The shutter cover is easy to open/close with a twist motion.
* The light on the front of the camera gives a clear indicator that it's being used (amber - audio only, white - video/audio, magenta - updating firmware, or OFF - not in use or mic is muted)
* You can use 2 Logitech software programs to control the webcam - LogiOptions+ or LogiTune. I already have an MX keyboard and mouse, so this MX Brio was simply added to the mix in LogiOptions+ with no issues. The webcam did take an immediate firmware update out of the box then reconnected flawlessly. The options in LogiOptions+ allow a ton of changes to be done with regard to motion, zoom, focus, low-light compensation, HDR, and a type of "follow-me" function where the camera will keep you in the center of the frame. Many of these options can be done automatically or manual, so you can get that perfect shot. The LogiTune app has many of the same features as LogiOptions+ but also has some preset color filters that can be used in addition to being able to set your resolution to 720p, 1080p, 2K, or 4K. There is also a grid that can be toggled on/off if you need your picture centered. So it will be good to download both of those apps.
* The webcam can be mounted on a basic tripod with the bolt attachment area on the bottom, in the center of the magnetized area. This is a necessary option for those not wanting to place on a monitor.
* Works with a ton of programs; however I use MS Teams with my company. Other include Webex, Skype, Google Meet, Zoom, and a handful of others.
CONS:
-----------
* The 5-foot USB-C cable provided does the job quite well; however, sometimes a PC is a bit further away from the monitor than this cable can reach in "wire feet", meaning sometimes the wire has to be routed under a desk, through a hole, etc before it reaches the PC. Having 2-3 more feet would be helpful especially given the lack of cable management of this webcam...
* Cable management. There is none, and most webcams simply don't need it because of the cables are typically very lightweight. But this webcam is heavy along with high-quality/thick USB-C nylon cable with significant weight and nothing to hold it up or route it somewhere other than 90-degrees out the back of the webcam. There needs to be 2 L-adapters provided with this camera - one that L's up/down, and one that L's to either side. And on top of that, perhaps some kind of clip mechanism to hold the cable in place if it uses a "side" L-bracket for weight distribution reasons. With the cable coming straight out the back, there is a bit of pressure on the USB-C port itself. The cable could get damaged or the port itself could get damaged from the weight of the cable causing stress in that area. Though the cable is of high quality, some cable management is needed along with some L-brackets because of weight distribution...
* Weight distribution. It's heavy for a webcam. The cable comes out of the back and causes the user to have to balance the cable and camera so it doesn't fall forward in front of the monitor and possible damage the monitor screen. Now, it DOES come with a "sticky" back-side which Logitech obviously thought would be enough; however, sometimes I like to move my webcam from one PC to the next - OR I may take it with me to work and use on those monitors. It's probably not normal to take them on-the-go, but even with the sticky side, the back of my monitor is slightly rounded, so the flat sticky surface will only make contact to a point - and that doesn't help a lot. A camera this heavy may need a bigger and different designed perch to combat weight distribution issues. In most cases it may work fine, but it is an issue that could likely be corrected.
OTHER OBSERVATIONS:
-----------
* The perch has a portion cut out so the camera can be twisted to look down at your keyboard area or directly in front of your monitor. I personally have no need for this feature, but some people might. The camera is connected to the perch via what appears to be rare earth magnets that are insanely strong (which they may have to be due to the weight of the camera itself). If the perch is not stuck to the back of the monitor, it may easily clunk into your monitor screen if you're not careful with it.
* Resolution gives 4K at 30fps or 1080p at 60fps - these are pretty basic and should work great for most applications.
* The zoom is digital and goes up to 4x.
CONCLUSION:
=====================
Overall, I'm highly impressed with the build of the product itself along with the video/mic quality and the Logitech software provided. My biggest issue is with the weight distribution and cable management on the backside of the webcam. There are issues there that should be worked out to make sure this thing doesn't fall off my monitor. The sticky base only does so much, and the cable itself, though high-quality, needs some support to keep the cable from pulling back on the webcam. If these minor issues are fixed, I think Logitech will have a complete winner here. It definitely beats the Logitech CS920 FHD webcam I have been using for the last decade or more.

Simple Case Does the Job
on February 18, 2024
Posted by: BADog
Casetify cases are now available for the Samsung Galaxy S24 series. This review is for the Galaxy S24 Ultra and has the kingsnake design on the back. The package comes with the cell phone case, and that's all. The case comes with a 6-month manufacturer's warranty.
PROS:
-----------
* It offers good protection to the phone.
* It is snug on all corners and the sides after installed.
* It has a rubber-like feel which improves grip and more importantly the ability to prop it up against something at an angle without it falling down since it has enough grip to stick to what it's standing on, even when that surface has little friction (ie. counter top, glass top, etc - it angles fine without falling).
* All holes line up perfectly with the ports and buttons on the phone.
* The buttons are easy to press when the case is on.
* There is enough lip on the screen side to protect the screen, but it would still be wise to add a screen cover of some sort for more protection against breakage and scratches.
* There is an extra 1-2mm of thickness on the backside lens rectangle to protect the camera lens.
CONS:
-----------
* Price is high, considering what you get. Many other cases offer more features for less, and more protection
* It would be nice for Casetify to take in consideration the location of the Samsung logo on the back of the phone and not have part of the snake design cover up the logo. I would suggest to either move the snake around the logo OR make that section see-through (see picture).
OTHER OBSERVATIONS:
-----------
* There was no paperwork with the case; however, installation is self-explanatory. Keep in mind that you should always insert the side of the phone with buttons first into the case, then the side without buttons. Otherwise, you could clip the buttons and maybe even damage the buttons when putting it on. When removing, do the opposite - remove the side without buttons first.
* The case is not super slim and does offer a thicker-than-normal border on the outside. This added thickness should help with the protection of the phone but will make it look less low-profile.
CONCLUSION:
=====================
The case works fine and offers ultimate protection on most parts except the screen and lens area. For normal drops, it should do its job in most cases. Showing the Samsung logo would be huge plus as well... the price is a sticking point as there are a ton of other options out there that offer more for less. But it's not a bad case for what it's supposed to do. The snake design isn't bad and is semi-low-key on my gray S24 Ultra.

Good Sound for Small Form Factor
on November 6, 2023
Posted by: BADog
Sennheiser has released their AMBEO Soundbar "Mini". It's a smaller version of their Soundbar "Plus" and does not include a subwoofer. The box includes the soundbar, power cable, HDMI cable, remote control, and quick user guide/paperwork. The soundbar comes with a manufacturer's 2-year warranty.
PROS:
-----------
* For a smaller sound bar, this one packs a nice punch featurewise and soundwise for smaller areas.
* The app provides some sample Dolby Atmos audio files (video included on the device). They sound very cool and also demonstrate the way this soundbar can distribute sound throughout a room. When watching action movies like Top Gun Maverick and Avengers, the sound is spaced out very well, even with the lack of bass. This is even more enhanced with the AMBEO function set to ON.
* The speaker is a very solidly built unit and looks super fine in front of a TV. The big rubber feet on the bottom keep it in place. The lighting on top (LED colors, motion, and length represent a ton of different things) and with the AMBEO logo on the front add a nice touch.
* The remote is incredibly well-built and solid as well. It even has rubber feet on the bottom so it won't scratch furniture tops.
* There is no ON/OFF switch. The soundbar simply is working when there's a connection, and goes into auto-standby when not in use.
* There are bolt holes on the bottom that can be used to mount the soundbar (see pic)
* This mini soundbar CAN be paired with a Sennheiser sub if needed.
CONS:
-----------
* Bass is lacking due to small form factor and no sub
* Bluetooth (BT) volume is lacking, even when device's connected volume is at MAX.
* Initial setup was a bit more wonky than other audio devices I have connected to. I use the latest and greatest Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra and S22+, and I wasn't able to connect easily. It showed in my bluetooth (BT) list but wouldn't connect. I downloaded the Sennheiser app, and tried to continue setup/connection, and it still failed. After about 10 minutes, randomly, it "just connected" while in the app. Very strange. I immediately performed the recommended firmware update which then took another ~20 minutes, give or take.
* Even with the mini form factor, I was hoping for more than just an HDMI/ARC connection. A digital fiber audio input would have been a great and simple addition to an already-great soundbar.
* As well-built as the remote is, it's a bit busy on the lower half with all the sound type buttons. This isn't a huge negative since the only other way to change this might be in the app itself. I don't tend to change modes very often, so this is just personal preference.
* The app seems to function well, but on the main page, there's a lot of wasted real estate (see pic).
OTHER OBSERVATIONS:
-----------
* The AMBEO function works great in most instances if you're trying to spacialize your sound; however, I found that listening to regular music actually sounded better with this function OFF. If ON, it seems to emulate more of a "concert" feel which is really the listener's preference.
* Actual paperwork included for operation include a quick user guide printed in multiple languages. If you want the full user guide, you can get it on the Sennheiser website. I highly recommend getting it because it explains all the light sequences/colors of the status light on top of the unit in addition to its full functionality.
* I found that when I went from Spotify (using BT) to Spotify Connect mode (playing the same song), that Spotify Connect actually provided more sound/power overall. I'd have to say maybe 30% louder.
CONCLUSION:
=====================
I have never been one to own a soundbar without a sub - this was my first one. I really thought it would be better, but I guess I'm just used to a complete soundbar system. I think the only place this soundbar might be useful would be in a kitchen, a small apartment (where bass could annoy your neighbors), back porch (if climate controlled), or other small area where bass isn't really useful or needed. Anytime I watch a movie, the subwoofer makes it for me. When I listen to music, the subwoofer makes it for me. I simply enjoy the low frequencies that "complete" an audio experience. Though this soundbar does a good job for the size, it's typically not enough for me. So in more compact areas, it would definitely work better OR if you are someone that simply doesn't like a lot of bass, this would be the perfect soundbar for you. Audio is crystal clear, and the different audio functions are spot-on for what you are listening to (news vs sports vs music, etc). I give this bar a good rating, but still think something is missing that would take it even further - maybe a front display of some sort even so the user doesn't need to know the color codes and motions of the LED on top of the soundbar. Not having an optical input is also a negative. But overall, still a very nice product and would still recommend.

Adobe Continues to Evolve Elements in a Good Way
on October 31, 2023
Posted by: BADog
Adobe has released a new revision of Elements - the 2024 version. I used a download link in order to get the product. It came with a PRODUCT KEY so I could have a registered and fully active version.
DISCLAIMER: I have used the 2020 and 2022 version of this software. I have years of extensive use of "regular" Photoshop and Premiere as well for comparison. I have included some examples of some simple creations to this review in addition to 1 extensive overlay project I created.
PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS PROS:
----------------------------
* Setup for both was easy; however, you will want a fast internet connection as the downloads are quite big.
* 2024 introduced a dark and light layout for the workspace.
* Options available in PREFERENCES are plentiful. As this program advances each year, it seems to get closer and closer to a full-scale Photoshop.
* It has the ability to show your original photo and edited photo side-by-side so you can see how the new version looks compared to the original.
* When using the CROP function, you can maintain the original photo length ratios or change to 16:9, or even basic predetermined photo sizes.
* Facial blemishes can be a thing of the past should it be needed. I was able to do this in regular Photoshop, but with Elements, it was easier.
* A nice feature is the "B&W Color Pop" function where you can pick which color you want to see while everything else is black and white. You can pick from red/yellow/blue/green or your own custom color. It is nice functionality with more editing within this feature.
* Double-exposure function works well with creating some interesting superimposed pictures on top of others. This feature may take a bit more imagination but I did one for my son's homecoming group/dates and it turned out great. Those may require a bit more planning to get the right double-exposure you're looking for.
PREMIERE ELEMENTS PROS:
---------------------------
* Easy to use, and not intimidating.
* Video editing isn't very complicated - typically, you want to trim video, have audio or video overlay, edit brightness, or add transitions between scenes. Premiere Elements 2024 can do those things.
* You have the option to add animated graphics to your video and even have the option to make still photos move in different ways in your video.
* Like Photoshop Elements, some of those same options exist in Premiere Elements but in video form, like creating a mask effect, changing backgrounds, having video inside the letters of a title. And as most video programs go, you can also slow things down for slo-mo effect. I used this function for my son at the plate when hitting baseball so he could see his form in slo-mo in multiple angles. Some cell phones already have this function, but many times, you just want to take the video and deal with post-production later.
PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS CONS:
-------------------------
* I did have an issue with trying to remove shadows on photos. When I select the shadow (like on a wall behind the subject), I was unable to get the shadow to go away. Instead, the picture gets really distorted where the shadow was supposed to be removed. It's possible I'm not doing something right; however, to do something as simple as this shouldn't be complicated if it's possible. I was using the "remove object" GUIDED tab.
* In a similar situation, when using the function to remove something in the picture you don't want, I found that if that image is touching part of the picture that you want to keep, this function doesn't work well since there is a bit of "what is behind this person" algorithming going on. Sometimes, I would try and remove another person off to the side of the main subject, but that other person is behind the target slightly, so the merging of colors didn't work well for the new background to be created.
OTHER OBSERVATIONS:
----------------------
* The interface/layout of these 2 programs are a bit different this year. It looks like they are streamlining the look of everything to look like the latest interface of Apple and to some extent, Android. It has taken a little getting used to, but a change for the good.
* If you are a novice at either photo or video editing, this is the program for you to get started. Both programs come with QUICK, GUIDED, and ADVANCED tabs of functions to work with. For the very basics and simple things, QUICK is great. For a bit more advanced function, but with the programs helping you, GUIDED works incredibly great. I spend more time in the guided section than the other two. If you go to ADVANCED, then you're getting more into the details of the picture and get a bit closer to how "regular" Photoshop and Premiere function.
CONCLUSION:
===================
Photoshop Elements is really more about special effects than real photo editing though it does have that capability to a lesser extent vs other more advanced programs. It has continued to evolve over the years in a good way. I found the ability to fix facial skin a huge plus as we have a teenager. Random days of a breakout can happen and this can help make the picture better. I can see where this would be good for creating a scrapbook or involved picture storybook for presentation purposes or for personal product creations (mugs, phone cases, etc.). Premiere Elements does a great job at the simple things and is easy to use. I'd continue to recommend both of these products if you don't need advanced editing capabilities. Will definitely recommend.

Perfect Thunderbolt 4 Cable
on October 25, 2023
Posted by: BADog
Insignia has released a new product for everyday use - a durable, high-speed Thunderbolt 4 cable. The box includes the cable and quick user guide. The cable comes with a manufacturer's 1-year warranty.
PROS:
-----------
* Very durable feel with the nylon-braided material on the outside.
* Speed is through the roof with the latest Thunderbolt 4 specs - 40Gpbs which can not only handle high data speeds for external hard drives, but also with monitor connections at high data rates. It can handle up to 8K Ultra HD monitors at 60Hz, but even better with 4K monitors at 240Hz if your monitor is capable of that. The cable can still handle 2 4K monitors at 60Hz... for gamers, the 1-monitor setup may be preferred due to the high refresh rate.
* I have a mini projector that can connect to Android cell phones, and this cable is rated to handle this data connection. I have a number of USBC cables that simply can't handle it due to cable limitations, but this one is rock-solid and has good length so the phone doesn't have to be super close to the projector.
* Cable is shielded to help prevent RF interference which can be prevalent in some situations. This is important especially if connected to monitors that demand high data rates.
* The standard for Thunderbolt 4 power capabilities is 100W; however, this cable can handle up to 240W, a big upgrade compared to the basic Thunderbolt 4 standards.
CONS:
-----------
* The cable does not come with a built-in velcro tie attached. That would be a nice feature to have since these cables don't stay wound up easily when not in use.
OTHER OBSERVATIONS:
-----------
* Each end of the USB-C cable is marked with a 4 which designates Thunderbolt 4 technology. Be sure to check the new standards for USB-C cabling so you'll know what each USB-C cable is capable of. Currently, TB4 is the latest and greatest USB-C cable available, and it will handle Thunderbolt levels prior to 4 as well.
CONCLUSION:
=====================
I use the cable for video transmission to a 4K monitor and also my Android device to mini projector. I am quite happy with the results. I have had NO issues with video transmission. Refresh rate is crazy good, and the good physical quality of the cable can clearly be felt when handling. It's a simple product, but one that is needed when quality and performance are demanded by the hardware used. I would definitely recommend and get another one in the future.

DJI Air 3 Drone w/RC2 Controller is Top Notch
on October 15, 2023
Posted by: BADog
The DJI Air 3 is a top quality drone offered for great visual photography and video. The FLY MORE COMBO comes with the Air 3 drone, RC2 remote (with screen built-in), 3 smart batteries, battery charger for all 3 batteries, USB-C charging cable, 12 pairs of propellers, carrying case with shoulder strap, quick user guide/paperwork. The drone comes with a manufacturer's 1-year warranty.
DISCLAIMER: This is my 3rd drone. My first was with a different manufacturer, and my 2nd drone was the Mavic 3. I have been flying for about 3-4 years. The previous 2 drones required a phone be used in order to fly, so this new Air 3 with RC2 is exactly what I have been wanting.
PROS:
-----------
* Great 4K pictures, of which none of the ones we post on this website will do the pictures justice. The pictures really are phenomenal.
* Operation is like most other drones with the 2-joystick system and index fingers controlling video/photographs.
* It gets UP in a hurry, moves quickly.
* NO PHONE NEEDED. The screen is built-in to the RC2 remote. No more cables.
* The display is easy to see. If used in the sun, you may need some shade.
* I tested in some semi-windy conditions at a minimal altitude, and the drone held it's lat/long pretty well even when winds were hitting it at all angles. I'd still recommend to fly in little-to-no wind conditions. The last thing you want is a crash without "drone insurance"... which leads me into.....
* Get the drone insurance (protection package) from DJI. If anything happens, don't let your $1000+ investment go to waste.
* BATTERY LIFE in these Air 3 batteries is about 10-15 minutes better than my DJI Mavic 3. That's a huge difference when you need to be in the air longer. This is one of the biggest perks of the FLY MORE package is the battery life.
* Charging cable is USB-C, not microUSB. This is a necessity these days.
* Controller sticks can be stored on the rear of the controller when not in use.
CONS:
-----------
* In a non-authorized area, I was unable to UNLOCK using the controller due to NO NETWORK on a site not at my home. I'm unsure if the remote would connect to a hot spot after already connecting to my home wifi for updates. However, I did take my drone home and was able to UNLOCK using my phone number - I'm assuming because the controller could connect to my home WiFi. This was a bit of a nuisance for 1st-time use and not being able to fly it.
* Unlike the Mavic 3, this drone does not have a complete drone holder strap that contains the legs and propellers when folded up so it can be stored in its bag without easily damaging the propellers. Because of the cramped position in the bag, I'm unsure if the propellers should be removed before putting in the bag.
* Perhaps include a spare pair of controller sticks in case the set it comes with break off or get damaged. My previous DJI drone came with an extra set.
* It seems like everyone may have a USB-C charger these days; however, most of mine are already in use. It would have been nice to have a USB-C wall charger in addition to the USB-C cable DJI provided.
OTHER OBSERVATIONS:
-----------
* There are 2 customizable buttons on the back side of the controller. The right one switches from 0-degrees to -90-degrees each time you press it (out of the box). But these can be changed in the SETTINGS menu.
* There is an SD card slot on both the drone and the controller. Each one records what you are seeing on each device. Obviously, the SD card in the drone is the most important as that's where your 4K video is recording.
* If you don't want to charge your batteries in the 3-port charger, you can also charge your battery in the drone itself. There is a small covered area on the rear/bottom of the drone where there is an microSD card slot and a USB-C port. Use the USB-C port for charging your battery.
* The drone comes with 8GB of internal memory; however, if you do any real amount of 4K video, you'll want to get a microSD card. Be sure to get the correct CLASS of microSD card as all SD cards are not created equal. I typically lean towards the V30 and above for 4K recording. If you get anything less, your results may not be as good due to write speeds.
CONCLUSION:
=====================
There are a ton of reviews already out there regarding this drone's technical abilities. I wanted to address more of the physical attributes of the drone and fly more package. It would be impossible to state everything this drone can do in the limited number of characters our reviews are capped to. Just know that this is a high-quality drone, and DJI backs up their products based on my past experience. I definitely recommend, especially given the quality and battery life. Happy droning.

The 800 cfm – 12-amp Electric Turbine Blower is, quite simply, the most powerful electric blower in the marketplace. Other 800 cfm (Cubic Feet per Minute) blowers don’t put out wind power at 135 mph. Physics shouldn’t allow it, but our engineers found a workaround. And even though you’re going to want to blow at that speed all the time, you can use the variable speed control to dial it down. When you need even more power than the 800 cfm/135 mph can provide, there’s the Hyper-Stream nozzle that focuses all the airflow right where you need it. Believe it or not, all that power can be controlled with one hand. The whole unit is only 6.6 lbs., and that amazing Turbine tech creates a wind tunnel that is easy to point. The cord retainer keeps extension cords from pulling apart, even on snags. And you don’t need any tools to put it together. Time to go clear that lawn.

WORX 800CFM Blower is Top Notch
on October 11, 2023
Posted by: BADog
WORX has a number of great tools available. This tool is their strongest blower, the WORX WG521 800CFM corded blower. The box includes the main blower body, tube attachment, and some paperwork. The blower comes with a manufacturer's 3-year warranty
PROS:
-----------
* Extremely lightweight at ~6.6 lbs.
* There is a ton of force coming out of this machine. WORX states 800CFM which, for this tube, equates to air speeds of up to 135MPH.
* The ON/OFF switch is NOT really a switch, but a dial that's easily rotatable with your thumb. It clicks in the OFF position, but once you roll it up one notch, you're on LOW power (around 70MPH) and you can change the blowing force variably up to it's highest point. There are no LOW/MED/HI levels... it's a smooth control where you can select speeds anywhere in between.
* Cord management is easy to deal with. The mechanism on the plug end allows for an extension cord to run through it so the unit doesn't come unplugged while in use.
* This blower is plugged in, so you'll never run out of juice like a battery unit.
* The airflow comes out BIG, so blowing leaves and debris from your driveway/yard is a cinch.
CONS:
-----------
* I'm unsure of THE best place for the plug outlet, but if it wasn't on the very bottom, this unit could be stored vertically sitting upright on its bottom. I have shown in the picture of it sitting on my counter with the plug protruding out. The only normal way it can be stored is via keyhole hole on the back side or flat on its bottom, long side down. It would be great to be able to be able to stand it upright on its bottom in a tight storage area.
OTHER OBSERVATIONS:
-----------
* For comparison's sake, I have owned WORX's 600CFM model (WG520) for 2 years and have thoroughly enjoyed it. These 2 blowers are similar in feel but do have a different look. The 600CFM model has a different air intake shape on the back and also includes an added length to the main tube. (See picture for comparison). I have used both, and both are equally easy to maneuver.
* There is some "air kickback" when the airflow is at full speed, but it's not so bad that it's hard to manage the blower.
* The blower comes in 2 pieces in the box. The tube simply clicks into place onto the motor unit and can also be removed if needed via latch on the side.
CONCLUSION:
=====================
The WG521 blower is perfect for blowing leaves, and even straw if on concrete. It will blow straw ok if on grass, but obviously not as well if on a flat surface. With the ease of changing the variable speed control with your thumb, it's easy to find that perfect blow speed for the job you need done. Having said that, I typically use the highest speed setting most of the time. I love this machine and will be using it a ton like I did my other WORX machine. Now it will be a bit easier than before. Nice product, WORX!

Don’t just raise the standard. Reshape it. The versatile HP Spectre Fold crushes the status quo thanks to its innovative design capable of multiple forms, functions, and uses that go beyond anything you’ve ever seen from a laptop. It's the world’s first 17-inch foldable PC with a wireless charging keyboard and pen. Give your powerful 12.3" diagonal laptop more screen space instantly just by quickly sliding the magnetic, auto-pair keyboard out. Detach the keyboard completely and flatten the screen to change it to an ultra-thin desktop with built-in kickstand one minute, to a 17" diagonal tablet.

Expensive Gimmick But It Mostly Works
on September 28, 2023
Posted by: BADog
HP has released a brand new FOLDABLE laptop, the Spectre 3-in-1 with Intel EVO platform and Intel i7 processor. You can use as a 13" or 17" monitor configuration. The very sturdy box includes the main foldable unit/PC, mini magnetic keyboard/touchpad, USB-C hub, HP Stylus, extra stylus tips, USBC-to-keyboard proprietary wired/magnetic cable connector, power brick & cord set, and quick user guide/paperwork. The computer comes with a manufacturer's 1-year warranty.
DISCLAIMER 1: This review will mainly focus on the PC's functionality and features more-so than Win11 itself since Win11 is mostly the same on any computer.
DISCLAIMER 2: HP claims 5 different modes, but I will primarily be addressing the functionality of "laptop" mode (13") and "desktop" mode (17").
1. Tablet (fully open, no keyboard)
2. Laptop (keyboard fully connected to bottom half of tablet creating a 13" laptop screen)
3. Desktop (keyboard fully detached, screen on its side, creating a 17" screen propped on a support leg on the back of the screen)
4. Extended Screen (keyboard detached, screen in "laptop" position creating a bent full vertical screen with 1/2 flat and 1/2 the normal 13" screen at an angle.
5. Expanded Screen (keyboard slid down 1/2-way down the bottom half of the screen, mouse pad hanging off the end at a slight angle, creating a "bonus" flat area in front of the keyboard but below the main 13" screen area)
PROS:
-----------
* As far as the "coolness" factor, this product hits the mark. It will give you some good looks your way.
* PC performance is top notch with the Intel i7 processor provided. It's incredibly fast, video is super smooth, and after playing a few games online, they keep up as well.
* The BT keyboard charges when it's connected in 13" mode magnetically. If the keyboard is moved down 1/2-way down the screen so the optional bonus area of the screen is visible OR if the keyboard is completely removed to go to 17" mode, the keyboard will have to be connected via cable provided (USB-C cable connects magnetically to the keyboard and the lower-left tablet USB-C port -- See picture). When charging, the light will illuminate orange.
* The stylus charges magnetically to the front/bottom of the folded tablet. When charging, the light will illuminate orange.
* The 2.5K LED picture is great. If you have used any foldable phone devices, this one is no different with the picture. You don't really see the fold in the screen unless you look at it from an angle.
* The webcam has a physical ON/OFF switch. When OFF, there are some white/black slanted lines that show where the camera is located to indicate it's blocked.
* When not in use, the keyboard should be placed in the center of the screens (13" mode) and closed. It fits perfectly in the middle (see picture).
* Though compact, the keyboard does have a solid feel to it. The mouse pad works well too.
* The PC can be used as a giant tablet with stylus. If you are having to draw or create graphics using the stylus, this might be a great option. There is a ton of real estate to work with.
* The 1TB SSD and 16GB of LPDDR5 will be ample for most people. The Wi-Fi 6E available will allow for Gig speeds which is a big plus if networking and moving a ton of data. The processor is top notch, being an Intel 12th gen Core i7 EVO.
* The quad speaker B&O systems actually is very good for laptop standards. Ideally, you'll want to use headphones or a BT speaker system, but if you only have your laptop available, it's not bad.
CONS:
-----------
* Even though it feels mostly solid-built, I still feel like I'm going to break it due to the thinness of it combined with the size/weight. It's hard to explain. It's solid, but due to the build structure, I feel like I have to be extra careful with it when the full screen is used, either as a tablet or with the stand. When in 13" (folded) mode, it feels much more solid. I think there should be more "stop" support on the sides of the hinge when fully opened as a "tablet" so it doesn't cause stress on the screen when at 180-degrees. This would limit damage to the screen when someone opens with more force that normal that might try and make the screen go further than 180-degrees.
* A 13" screen isn't much to work with. I guess it might come in handy on an airplane or compact usage areas. The 17" full tablet on its stand is the preferred way to use since there is more real estate provided. I would almost prefer a 15.6" monitor doubled into a ~20" monitor unfolded since 15.6" is the "normal" medium-size laptop already.
* The $5k price point, to me is pretty steep considering you're still getting 1 laptop/tablet. I believe a lot of the price is built-in to a "wow" factor of the foldable screen. To me, the wow-ness doesn't calculate to that steep of a price - not even close. The best gaming PCs don't even reach close to this price unless on the "extreme" built-out kind.
* This laptop only comes with 2 USB-C ports: When folded, one of the bottom-right of the 13" screen, and one on the upper-left 13" screen. Ports are NOT on the LEFT side of the folded screen since that is the bottom of the tablet when fully opened in 17" mode. It is designated by the 4 rubber feet to hold it in place (see picture). The problem is IF your keyboard battery is low AND you want to use in 17" mode, if you plug in the USB-C hub, and also have to use the keyboard charging cable, then the ONLY place to charge the laptop would then be on the TOP-CENTER where the spare USB-C port is then located. This means pressure is then put on the whole PC/stand due to the upright nylon power cable. If the cable was angled off the top at a 90-degree angle, that would be a semi-better solution. An even better solution would be to have another USB-C port on the LEFT side of the 17" tablet setup near the other USB-C port. Then power can be provided at the same time the hub and keyboard cable are being used. I was able to purchase a 90-degree Female-to-Male USB-C adapter to help with the cable management issue when power is plugged onto the top of the tablet when in 17" mode. This is a pretty big flaw, in my opinion, and HP should have accounted for that. Another super-easy fix for this would have been to simply add another USB-C port on the hub HP provided. Then power AND the keyboard adapter cable could both be used there on the lower-left bottom USB-C port.
* The rear stand (in 17" mode) can be slightly difficult to pull out depending on how big your fingers are. Smaller fingers will have an easier time pulling out the rear stand. It is also not centered since it can't be on the actual hinge point. It clicks into place, but does appear it can be pushed in slightly to make the screen not be so far tilted back. Keep in mind that the more that leg is pushed inward (causing the screen to stand up straighter), the more unstable it will become. It's also possible to simply lean the 17" screen up against something behind it that's as tall as it is. This would allow more of a near-90-degree viewing surface. There has to be a better and more sturdy way to allow the full tablet to be more upright instead of leaning back so far when the rear leg is snapped-in. A better mechanism/prop would be something similar to another manufacturer that has a full-length flat pullout bracket that reaches from both sides of the screen. Having this one semi-wobbly leg that's not even centered, can make for an awkward viewing experience both in stability and viewable angle (which includes a glared screen).
* I personally don't see a real use for "expanded screen" mode or "extended screen" mode (see disclaimer above for definitions). It just seems weird to me to have part of the screen bent OR some of it not even in use. I have tried to find ways to utilize this feature but haven't found a real functional way that benefits me to this point.
OTHER OBSERVATIONS:
-----------
* The accessories are great, but you'll need to keep them in your computer bag or a drawer somewhere.
* The power button is located on the top of the screen, on the right end while the volume buttons are on the same upper-right corner, but on the side of the screen.
* When in 17" mode, the webcam is on the LEFT side of the screen. It appears to compensate for the tilting of the screen. It uses vertical camera mode in this case (like a cell phone). When the camera is in 13" mode, it creates a horizontal video feed.
* The keyboard is NOT backlit. The camera is 5MP and has a built-in mic.
* HP claims up to 13.5 hours of battery; however, that will depend on your personal usage of the PC.
CONCLUSION:
================
Overall, I really like the concept that HP created. I do wish there were at least 1-2 more USB-C ports on the side panel and possible have the extra USB-A/HDMI ports built-in to the side of the screen as well so a hub isn't even needed. Having the short keyboard charging cable seems necessary at times if the full screen 17" mode is used. With the price of this unit, I would almost expect for a small carrying case (whether hard or soft) be provided so that the power and accessories can be contained in one small-profile storage area. That would really make this product a bit more complete. I would also say to fix the semi-flimsy stand issue and offer up a better way to prop up closer to 90-degrees if that's even possible. Though I really like the concept of this PC, I'm not so sure the price is completely justified. I feel like I need to either pay less OR get more as a user (like the mentioned case). The whole thing is a bit gimmicky but it will "wow" your friends at the same time. I'm in the middle on rating this product, but I still like it more than I don't like it. There are still some tweaks that need to be made to take it to the next level. Hopefully HP can do that. I would recommend, but only if some of the fixes I mentioned were implemented.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Nice, Solid, Basic Webcam
on September 28, 2023
Posted by: BADog
JLab has released their new 1080p webcam with swappable face plates. The box includes the webcam, white plastic/fabric face plate, dark gray plastic/fabric face plate (already installed), and quick user guide/paperwork. The webcam comes with a manufacturer's 2-year warranty.
PROS:
-----------
* Super easy plug-and-play setup. No special drivers or software needed.
* 1080p picture is adequate enough for most webcam applications (ie. basic Zoom/Team/Skype calls). If you need 2K/4K or higher, you'll need to find another webcam.
* Illuminated light to the left of the lens lights up when the webcam is operating. It's OFF when not transmitting video. The light shines through the fabric of the face plate.
* I like the optional face plate JLab provides. If a user wants a lighter color face plate, they can snap ON/OFF the main unit with no issue.
* The user is unable to see the microphones built-in to the unit, but there are 2 - one on each side of the lens, so your voice will be in stereo. You can see the holes in the back of the face plate which allow the light and mics to function (see pic of the back side of the face plate) as the light and mics are on the main unit itself.
* There are no manual controls. Focus is automatic.
* The webcam arm hooks onto every type of monitor I have, so it's pretty versatile. If you'd rather put it on a tripod, it does have a female bolt connection point on the bottom of the leg of the webcam (see picture) where it can be connected. The webcam itself can rotate 360-degrees left/right and also has the ability for manageable tilt up and down to get that correct angle.
CONS:
-----------
* The microphone audio is adequate, however, it does not equate to the high quality of most boom microphones that are attached to a headset. The audio is still good enough, just not "super" great in the event you need high clarity audio.
* There is no switch or mechanism to completely close/block the camera lens when OFF.
OTHER OBSERVATIONS:
-----------
* Frame rate is up to 30fps (basic levels) at 2.1 megapixels
CONCLUSION:
=====================
For the average webcam user, this webcam works great. Just plug-and-play, and you're in business. It's a simple product with little user knowledge needed in order to get it to work. It simply plugs into a USB-A port, and the rest is automatic. I recommend and would get another one if needed.

Great Fan with Small Form Factor
on August 19, 2023
Posted by: BADog
Dyson has a basic cooling fan, model AM07, available for those that need air circulation in small areas. The box includes the motor unit, the air outlet (elongated piece), plastic base, remote control, and quick user guide. The fan comes with a manufacturer's 2-year warranty.
PROS:
-----------
* The fan comes packed in the box in 3 pieces which are easy to click together.
* The fan has a very small form factor, meaning it takes up little space but packs a nice punch. The unit itself is only 7.25 inches in diameter with the wider base snap-on being 9 inches in diameter.
* As stated, it packs a nice punch with air flow ranging from power settings 1-10 (10 being the highest). As the unit puts out more power, the motor dB/sound level does increase somewhat. At night, if you have the fan set to 10, it actually creates a type of "white noise" while you sleep.
* The fan is moderately tall at 40" which would be tall enough to effect people sleeping at normal bed heights. To put that in perspective, it's a couple inches taller than a standard door knob.
* Easy to clean with a damp cloth. Cleanable areas are mostly plastic.
* If you place the remote control FACE DOWN on top of the fan, there is a magnet which will hold it in place. If you ever need the remote, it will be in plain sight and not have to put it in a drawer or in a place where animals could grab it use as a chew toy.
* There is an easy-to-read lit display on the bottom of the fan that shows the fan level (1-10). When the unit is turned off, the display is also off.
* The available sleep function times are 15m/30m/45m/1hr/2hr/3hr/4hr/5hr/6hr/7hr/8hr/9hr. This is actually a useful function as you can have it set to turn OFF just before you get out of the bed in the morning (so you don't freeze when you get out of the bed).
* If you lose the remote control or if the remote battery dies, you are able to turn ON/OFF the power, and by holding down the power button, the fan speed will change up 1 thru 10, then back down to 1 until you find your sweet spot.
CONS:
-----------
* If you lose the remote control or if the remote battery dies, the rotation function and sleep timer cannot be used. Perhaps those basic functions could have been added to the base next to the existing power button in the event the remote is not longer usable. Then another remote would not have to be purchased OR the user could still use those functions while a new remote is being purchased.
* The 2nd night I used it, there started to be a low-to-high buzzing/fluttering sound coming out of the motor. There was nothing in the fan area (when the top was removed) like a card in a bicycle wheel type scenario. I turned it back on (after checking the motor), and the sound started again, and the volume went up and down enough that I decided to turn it off for the night. I have used it 3 nights in-a-row since then, and it hasn't made that sound. If it continues in the future, I'll have to contact Dyson regarding a resolution.
OTHER OBSERVATIONS:
---------------------------------
* The power cord is approximately 6-ft long, and has a 2-pronged polarized plug.
* To operate the fan via remote, there needs to be line-of-sight between the remote and the BASE of the unit. That is where the IR sensor is located on the fan.
* If used a lot, the air intake vents on the base might need to be cleaned from time to time so the motor does not overheat. The vents are in an easy place to wipe off or vacuum.
* This is not an air purifier. It also does not have a "cool/heat" function. It simply has an air intake that blows existing air in the fan's facing direction.
* The remote replacement battery is a CR2032.
CONCLUSION:
=====================
Our family didn't need a super-fancy air purifier, so this fan worked out great for our needs. The extended timer (up to 9 hours) is a great feature for the purpose stated above. I do wish Dyson had implemented the timer and rotating function buttons onto the base in the event the remote becomes usable. To me, that's a pretty big "miss", given the limited functionality of the fan. Everything else about the fan is great including the ease to put it together. Overall, a solid product as one would expect from Dyson.

how does it sound with music on a computer?

Sound is good for gaming mainly. If you have bass sounds in a game, they sound very good. But if you're looking for bass sounds in music using this speaker, you'll probably want to go with a speaker system with a dedicated sub.

Keep your patios and entryways looking great with this Hoover ONEPWR cordless hard-surface sweeper kit. The lightweight construction makes cleaning tasks easier, while the long-lasting battery lets you get through extensive jobs before having to recharge. This Hoover ONEPWR cordless hard-surface sweeper kit blows up to 85 mph to get solid results fast.

How long does this run after a charge?

I got around 14 minutes on a full charge. Hoover claims 16 minutes but I was unable to get that multiple times. If you get the 3Ah battery, time will be more, but I'm not sure how much more since that battery was not included in the box.

Drive safely with this Cobra super HD dash cam. Its 1296p recording resolution captures high-quality video footage in any lighting condition, while the extreme temperature protection is tested to withstand sudden fluctuations. This Cobra super HD dash cam provides iRadar route tracking and live police alerts when connected to the iRadar app, so you never miss a thing.

How long does the cobra dash cam hold the footage does it erase it over how can you look back a week to see the footage

it keeps the footage until it starts looping and writes over it. That is, unless the file is protected by manually hitting the blue button on the back of the unit OR if a video is triggered due to GPS event (car is hit). It will also depend on how big of a microSD card you use and how much time is used driving. Many factors.

What is iRadar? How does it work

iRadar is just an app you put on your phone that works with this Cobra dashcam. Without the iRadar app running on your smartphone and bluetoothed to your unit, you won't get GPS data. So you have to turn on the app each time you drive if you want GPS data embedded on your videos. And even then, your MPH won't be on the video itself - it's only seen with the HD Dash Cam program you download from the Cobra website. I have a couple of screenshots on my review with GPS data and without GPS data.

Enjoy a theater-like experience in the comfort of your home with this 370W Samsung soundbar system. Wi-Fi functionality offers hands-free voice control with select devices for an easy intuitive user experience, while dual HDMI ports connect multimedia equipment. This Samsung soundbar system includes a wireless subwoofer that adds rich bass for immersive audio.

Will the new hw q80r shut off like the hw n850 after 5 min of paused movie.

Q80 should do everything the N850 did. Based on specs and my experience with the two, the changes from last year to this year are a name change and a couple of cosmetic changes (dark gray to black chasis, smaller Harmon Kardon label on top of bar, circular fabric over the subwoofer driver instead of cloth covering the entire side). Oh, and they now offer 1 more wifi audio service in addition to Tune-in. They offer Deezer too. Still no Pandora or Spotify via the Smartthings app unfortunately.

Will the lid hinge rest/scratch upon the surface when opening it?

It just opens/closes with no latch mechanism. It rests flat against the base but I don't see how it would scratch it.
