Was a little on the fence with this since I had a very bad experience with Samsung 6 years ago.. that being said, this phone is by far the best I've ever owned.
I think the finger print sensor location issue is way over blown, It's easy to locate, plus if you are like most people, you'll have it in a case and the cutout in the case will act as a natural guide for your finger without smudging the camera lense. Think about all the reviews you read/watched, did you ever see a single one of them put the phone in a case?
I read a few articles stating that iris detection is slow (upto 8 seconds), not for me. With or without glasses it's instant.
I have always been an android "purist" and never liked phone vendor re-skinning on the user interface, but I must say that in the S8 it provides a far better experience than native android. I was not expecting this and am pleasantly surprised.
Performance is through the roof! I am not talking about empirical measurements with bar graphs and comparisons to other phones, just what it feels like. "Browser Jitter" is gone, and interestingly, WiFi download speed is much faster than my last 2 phones, and they were high end phones.....
Can't comment on battery life, too soon to tell, but preliminary indications look good.

I have a single line 5GB plan ($80/month) with Verizon. If I purchase a Galaxy S8+ from Best Buy, will I be able to keep this plan with Verizon? Also, once I get the new cell, should I activate it with Verizon, with monthly payments made to BestBuy?

You can keep your plan.
Activation is as simple as turning off your old phone, then turning on the new phone and going through the simple setup.
You don't even have to switch the SIM card. Took me about 2 minutes.
Best buy collects the sales tax, Verizon does the monthly billing.
