Experience great gaming with this OMEN Obelisk desktop computer. Its NVIDIA GeForce graphics and Intel Core i7 processor are suitable for virtual reality games, and the 1TB hard drive and 256GB solid-state drive provide extensive storage and fast boot times. This OMEN Obelisk desktop computer's case opens without tools for easy expansion.

Fast boot up and decent at gaming.

Speed!! If you love speed, then this might be the computer for you. Boot up takes a quick 6-10 seconds and that is due to the 256 GB SSD that Windows 10 is installed on. Not the biggest drive, but it is fast, and you also get a 1 TB SATA HD that you can store all your data on. 16 GB of SDRAM, running at 1331MHz, with room for another 16 GB stick as well. You also get an Intel Core i7-8700 (8th gen) processor. Video is provided by a Nvidia GTX 1060 dedicated card with 3 GB of RAM. This card takes up a lot of space inside with the onboard fan to keep it cool. There are no additional slots to add any other cards though, so you are stuck with just one PCI-E slot. The outside of the case makes you believe that you could add additional peripherals, but I don’t believe you can. The side of the case is glass that provides a nice view of the internals. There are lighting options that you can play around with as well. You can change the light inside using the OMEN command center software and you can also change the OMEN logo color as well. Visually, this computer is very nice and clean looking. Now, there is no DVD drive so if you want to use optical media, you will have to get an external USB device. Not a big deal to me since nearly everything now you can download easily. There is a total of 7 USB ports (2 being on the top front). I found it strange that an SD card slot was not included with this either. The power button is a little recessed and you must use your finger nail to toggle it. I find that helpful and it keeps my little ones from pushing the power button when I am in the middle of a gaming session. You are given a wired USB keyboard and mouse and they are cheap and are not comfortable to use so you would probably want to get a higher end set up for gaming, but it’s nice that they included those, nevertheless.
I was very impressed with the graphics while playing Overwatch and Fortnite. I was able to play at their highest settings and the framerate was smooth and looked great. I ran a geekbench and got an OpenCL score of 119666.
Overall, this system is a great starter system for the money (when on sale). It can handle most anything you throw at it and unless you are the most hard-core gamer, you can’t go wrong with this. Most people don’t mod their systems or even upgrade them and just want something to work right out of the box. I can say that you would be happy with this one…except for the mouse, keyboard, and maybe the optical and SD card slot options that are missing.

Use the Google Smart Light Starter Kit to control the lights using just your voice. Set up in a snap: just plug in Google Home Mini, screw in the GE C-Life smart light bulb, and download the Google Home app to get started. Then just say "Hey Google" to dim, brighten, turn on and turn off the lights."

Great google device, decent smart bulb
on December 5, 2018

The Google Home Mini is great and works perfectly. The speaker is decent for it’s size and you won’t have any issues hearing it in under most conditions. The mini is responsive to your voice and you can just talk normally to interact with it. The GE C-Life smart bulb that comes packaged with it connects to the google mini via Bluetooth. I was able to connect it to my Google Home (not mini) that I had already and set up was easy and straight forward. It is recommended that the bulb be close to the google mini for the pairing to take hold. I had them about 25 feet apart and I didn’t have any issues. The GE bulb is a warm color and that is the only color that it projects. Their other bulbs, the C-Sleep will go from Warm to Cool, but again, this one will not. I find that to be a minor annoyance, but I am sure there is a marketing reason for that. This set up will allow you to dim the light and turn it off and on. I haven’t found a way to set up a schedule in the google assistant app, but if you use the C by GE app then you have more control over that, but Google home mini is the recommended way to use this since they are paired together in this package. I have not had any issues with connectivity at all, and the light has always responded to my commands. This is a good way to get started out if you don’t already have a Google device. The distance limitations though of 50 feet, you might want to think about other smart light solutions if you are planning on doing a whole house.

love the look of smoothies now
on December 2, 2018

The Ninja Smart Screen Kitchen System with FreshVac has 1400-watts of power and it looks very modern with the nice responsive touch screen. There are a lot of features and accessories that come with this package. You get two 20 oz. single-serve cups that you can take to go, two lids for those cups, a 72 oz. FreshVac pitcher, a 40 oz. processor (for chopping, pureeing, mixing or making dough), and a slicking/shredding disc, along with the FreshVac pump that attaches to either the single serve cups or the 72 oz. pitcher. What this does is suck out all of the air in the container, similar to what a food saver vac does. When you remove the air, say when you make a smoothie, the color is richer, and it does taste smoother than when I made one without taking the air out. Both tasted great but the color of the freshvac one was superior. All the components are well built and feel sturdy and the blades are sharp and work well. Washing them in the dish washer is ok to do and I just put them on the top shelf with no problems. There are 9 pre-programmed settings that the blender has are a very welcome addition and take a lot of the guess work out of blending…at least for me. This blender replaces my old trusty 1100-watt ninja blender that has served us well, but this is leaps and bounds better and more advanced.

Great cleaning and voice control
on November 30, 2018

The Shark ION S87 Robot has a few quirks about it that I find a bit worrisome, but overall, I am impressed with the system and how it works. Cleaning power is great, and I have had no issues with how well it cleans. The amount of dust in the dust bin is always a surprise to me after a cleaning. The suction power manages to pull dirt and pet hair from the carpets on a daily basis. The addition of the cord-free handheld vacuum is a very welcome addition. However, I used to keep my old ION robot parked under a table in my dining room, but this model will not fit with the charging bay for the hand-held. A minor inconvenience I admit, but the previous spot I was able to minimize the amount of times my toddlers would “play” with the robot. The dust bin itself holds plenty of dust and debris and I have been able to run it three times without having to empty it. Run time has been a consistent hour each time. Even in max mode I get an hour but advertised run time is 2 hours in normal mode and less in Max mode. I have tested the noise level between quiet, normal, and max mode and my readings showed about a 5dB between each mode. Max mode wasn’t that loud, but it would be annoying if you are trying to watch a TV show perhaps. There is a bit of confusion with the HEPA filter. The dust bin says to clean weekly by tapping it and to not wash it, the manual says it’s ok to wash with water and fully dry out over a 24-hour period. I am not exactly sure which one is correct, but my old shark ION robot I did wash the filter (which had the same warning on the dust bin) and it worked out fine. Now for the quirks that I mentioned earlier. The robot has just stopped at different times and gone back to the base station, the app displayed an error that it got stuck on an ‘uneven’ surface. Also, it did get stuck under a chair and displayed the error that it got stuck on a boundary strip. That time it just stayed put and didn’t go back to the charger. Another quirk is how you have to open the dust bin…. it’s hard to explain, but you have to hold it with one hand and use the other hand to both depress the button and lift the top open at the same time. I prefer the old design much better. The dust bin filter seems to get a lot of dust trapped in it and I am not sure how well it cleans after that, but you will have a good amount of buildup on that. The navigation 2.0 seems a bit jerkier in it’s movements than the previous model, but I think this new version has a rougher time navigating around my home, but with that being said, it seems to have a better chance of not getting stuck which my pervious model would get stuck once in a while. I really like being able to ask Alexa or Google to start the cleaning and I find that feature to work pretty well. The app will give you stats like how long the robot has been cleaning, it’s current charge level, it will beep so you can locate it, pause cleaning, of course start cleaning. Over all, I am looking forward to this robot doing a good job keeping my floors clean between our regular vacuuming.

Not bad, but better options out there...

The GE C-Sleep bulbs provide 800 Lumens of output and use 10 Watts of power. They connect via Bluetooth to my Google home/mini very easily. They do have to be within a certain range, they recommend that the google device be in the same room, but I have mine in the kitchen and it controls it fine in my upstairs master bedroom. There is a C by GE app that you can download and use instead of using a google device, but I did not try that out. The box says that the lights can phase through three different outputs from cool (white) for the morning, to soft white (during the day) to warm (yellowish) for the night. However, that feature is ONLY available if you use the C by GE app and not google home. Maybe that will change in the future. If you want to be able to control the lights from outside your home, you will either have to get the C-Reach bridge device or use a smart plug to do that. Chances are you won’t have a need to control them that way though, since I found that schedules work just fine to simulate someone being home and most of the time that I do use voice control is when I am first coming home and my hands are full of stuff or I am already in bed. These are a pretty inexpensive way to install smart bulbs in your home, but I wouldn’t put them everywhere. I prefer the Philips hue products over these, but they are a lot more expensive. This is a good set for usage in certain areas, say in bedrooms.

Fast speed, but no Ethernet ports on plug-in nodes
on November 14, 2018
Posted by: jago
from Sparks, NV
The Linksys Velop Tri-Band Mesh Wi-Fi system is very easy to set up using the Linksys App. The units are small and fit in with just about any décor with a modern, but not too modern look. My wife even allowed me to place one in the kitchen so that was a plus for the design in my book. The three nodes easily provide coverage throughout my 2300 sq ft. house and the entire back yard area, front yard, and garage. They are rated to cover a 5000 sq. foot area. The AC4800 version comes with a regular size node and two plug-in nodes, which will fit in the bottom outlet and leave the top one open for something else. I was really hoping that the plug-in nodes had an Ethernet port or two on them like the regular nodes do, but they do not. They strictly provide Wi-Fi coverage only. They are well packaged, and the presentation of the devices is top notch. Something I have come to expect from Linksys. I easily connected the main node via the RJ-45 cable that was included in the packaging and just followed the set-up procedures in the App. I didn’t have to update the firmware immediately, but I did have to do one a few days after install. The update took about 5 minutes for each node and then the system rebooted. My cable modem speed is 100mb down and 13mb up. I am seeing speeds faster than that in the times that I have checked. I have not noticed any slowdowns or buffering while multiple devices are streaming in our house either. I tried to max it out by streaming Netflix on both TV’s, and YouTube videos on 3 tablets and 2 phones. No issues to report there. Linksys provides a 3 year warranty with these so I am sure I will have no problems. These also give you the ability to set up a guest Wi-Fi and you can toggle it on or off using Alexa. My guests have been impressed with that feature. Over-all, I am very impressed with the speed and ease of use so far with these and you can easily add additional nodes as your needs require them. I have tested both tri-band and dual-band nodes at the same time and had no issues. I suspect speed would be degraded to the slowest device on the network, but even the dual-bands were plenty fast for my needs.

Sweet Chromebook, very portable.

The HP x360 Convertible 2-in-1 Chromebook looks great in my opinion. I like the white top contrasted by the cloud blue bottom part. The nice big 14” touchscreen is bright and has a pretty good viewing angle as well. The screen is responsive while in tablet mode as well as in laptop or tent mode. The Intel Core i3 processor and 8GB of RAM has been able to handle everything that I have thrown at it so far. It does have the Intel UHD Graphics 620 built onto the processor that shares the 8GB of RAM and it handles video playback pretty good and the few games I tried also played well. I don’t think it can really handle graphic intensive games though. The speakers are positioned right above the keyboard and they are provided by Bang & Olufsen Audio, very impressed with the sound, and they don’t sound too bad in tent mode when they are pointing away from you either. The built-in HD webcam and dual microphones worked well as I video chatted with my family and friends. They were impressed with the quality and sound. The backlit keyboard is one of my favorite aspects of this device. Typing feels natural and smooth as you press the keys with your fingers. I had no issues with typing at all and in dimly lit situations, being backlit really helps. The portability of this device is just about perfect as well. It measures 0.6” thin and weighs 3.7 lbs. Very portable and the screen is big enough to actually do some work on. Battery life has been really good as well. I haven’t been able to get the advertised 14 hours out of it, but I have been getting around 9-10 on average which would get most people through the day. I am very impressed that a USB type A port was included along with two type C ports. End of the day, this would be a great laptop for work, but I do find it to be limiting due to the Chrome OS. For example, if you need full versions of Microsoft Excel, you can’t get a real version that supports Macros (as far as I know) with Chrome OS. There are probably other shortcomings with Microsoft office products that exist, but I only tried to use Excel. I am sure the more I use Chrome OS I can learn to work around these issues. I did have this lock up on me while watching videos using chrome and I had to power it down by holding the power button.

If you do have to do that, you will probably be waiting a bit for the upgrade to complete. My cable modem speed is 100mb down and 13mb up. I am seeing speeds faster than that in the times that I have checked. I have not noticed any slowdowns or buffering while multiple devices are streaming in our house either. I tried to max it out by streaming Netflix on both TV’s, and YouTube videos on three tablets and two phones. No issues to report there. I did have a node status light turn orange and another one turn red at one point and I simply turned those ones off and then back on and they came back with a blue light. I will keep monitoring them for continued issues. Linksys provides a 3 year warranty with these so I am sure I will have no problems. These also give you the ability to set up a guest Wi-Fi and you can toggle it on or off using Alexa. My guests have been impressed with that feature. Also, each node has two ethernet ports that can be used for wired devices near those locations. The only node that you can’t use both ports is the main node that has to connect to your ISP (internet service provider) with one of the ports. Over-all, I am very impressed with the speed and ease of use so far with these.

Backlight keyboard, good specs, nice Chromebook

The Acer Spin 15 Chromebook is not very portable, it’s a very large device to lug around and will barely fit in my backpack that is meant for up to 15” laptops. It is also pretty heavy for a Chromebook at 4.85 lbs. It does have an Intel Pentium processor with 4GB of RAM and a 32GB eMMC flash memory. The screen is fantastic though. It is a full HD screen (1920x1080) and is bright and the viewing angle is really good. There is a very welcome headphone jack, two USB 3.0 Type A ports (one on each side), 2 USB 3.1 Type C ports (one on each side), Built in wide angle 1280x720 webcam, microSD slot, backlit keyboard, stereo speakers (located next to the keyboard). The speakers sound a lot better than most due to their placement. They face up and you can actually hear them when watching a movie. Battery life is rated at 13 hours and I believe I will get close to that with moderate use, but of course if watching a movie, expect that time to do down dramatically. During normal usage of typing a report and web viewing, it seems to be responsive and fast. I have had no issues with speed or battery life while doing that. I did try a few graphic intensive games and it did struggle a little. I suspect due to the 4GB shared memory. Using this as a tablet is a bit cumbersome and bulky due to its large size. Watching a movie in Tent mode is not great with the sound since the speakers are now facing away from you while positioned that way. Using BT headphones or wired ones fixes that issue though. In summary, I think this is a fine tablet for a student who needs to do school work at home, but for a power user or someone who likes to take your device with you, you may want to look elsewhere. I have uploaded a photo of the Acer Spin 15 next to my wife's Samsung ChromeBook plus (12.2") for comparison.

Navigate your desktop precisely with this Corsair Dark Core gaming mouse. It uses low-latency Bluetooth for syncing with compatible devices, and its 16000 DPI optical sensor provides high accuracy performance during game play. This Corsair Dark Core gaming mouse has a contoured shape and interchangeable textured side grips for a comfortable feel in hand.

Asking the people that bought this mouse, have they fixed the wireless connection issues ??? Any software updates to address the problem ??? Thank you in advance.....

I have been using it for a few days now, I did do a firmware update right away and I haven't noticed any connection issues yet. I have been using BT and 2.4GHz dongle.

Only at Best Buy Defend your home from intruders with this SimpliSafe security system. Its wireless design provides reliable, multilayer protection and avoids interruptions from cut phone lines and power outages, and it connects to an app for remote operation. This SimpliSafe security system is easy to install and customizable to homes of any size for flexible use.

Can more entry sensors or detectors be added to this unit afterwards? Or is the maximum amount four/one?

I am not sure if there is a max number of sensors, but you can add more if you need them. I am just not sure what the number is. But if you are planning on putting them on an area with many windows, they recommend getting a glass breakage sensor and motion sensor to cover those areas.

Will currently installed SimpliSafe sensors, etc. work with this new base unit, or will they all need to be replaced? Thank you.

I believe they need to be replaced with the new sensors. I saw that someone asked this very question on Facebook and simpisafe responded that the new unit only works with the new sensors.

Listen to your playlist in peace with these Sony headphones. They have a 40mm dome driver to deliver the full depth of audio, and the noise cancelling feature minimizes outside disturbances for a better listening experience. These Sony headphones have a battery life of up to 30 hours for extended jam sessions.

What walkman are compatible with these headphones?

only the tape walkman. j/k I think most devices can pair with this. You also get a 3.5mm cable and a 3.5mm jack on the headphones so yes, an old tape walkman will work.

They have a 40mm dome driver to deliver the full depth of audio, and the noise cancelling feature minimizes outside disturbances for a better listening experience. These Sony headphones have a battery life of up to 30 hours for extended jam sessions.

Do these headphones have the same cracking problem that the last version had! I am planning to buy them soon and I want them to last for the price. Thank you.

I haven't noticed any crackling with these, but I have only had mine for about a week.

Perfect portability is assured with this Dell XPS two-in-one laptop. All the data is stored on a 256GB solid-state drive for everyday security, and the 13.3-inch screen produces high-quality images and text for easy use. An Intel Core i7 processor and 16GB of RAM keep this Dell XPS two-in-one laptop running smoothly.

is there there an option of dvd?

just look for a usb type C (or type A) dvd drive, but if you mean an internal one, then no, not an option

Hi. I just bought this and the screen continually adjusts the brightness/contrast automatically. I've searched everywhere and did the fixes stated online but with no improvement. Has anyone else had this issue? Thanks!

mine does the same thing. I don't have a solution though.

Hello, I bought the my xps 2 days ago. I am really concern about the cooling system because it is way too warm. Compare to my friend MacBook Air, it's Much warmer. Does anybody feel the laptop too warm? Even when It is just on charge Or in light use...

mine gets a little warm, but not too hot. I think its pretty safe and i don't fear it getting too hot that it will burn itself out. However, I haven't had mine running super intensive processes for long periods of time.

Can I add additional ssd on this laptop? Is it expandable?

its a sealed device, and there is no place to install an additional SSD, but you can get a microSD and use that for storage as well. You can probably make windows think its another HD and use it as extended storage.
