Lightweight and very comfortable - good sound

These are some very comfortable and lightweight over the ear “earbuds”. It’s very easy to forget that you have them on for these reasons. They are open design, so they don’t actually go into your ear, but the little speaker projects the sound into your ear drum and in my opinion, these sound really good, especially when you factor in the price point. This feature allows you to hear the sound around you without some fancy ANC or hear through technology. This helps with battery life and the lightweight design, I am sure. They are not very expensive, but they do feel like they are very good quality. Touch controls are included here as well with a simple single, triple or long press to volume up/down, EQ change, or track forward/backward. The physical button is used to answer calls, activate the voice assistant of your device or power up/down the headphones. Multipoint connection allows you to pair with more than one device which is a great feature. Battery life is rated at 30+ hours with the case being able to recharge your buds on the go and you have the option to wirelessly charge the case as well. Sound quality has been great overall, and the only complaint, on sound, that I have is the lack of bass, but it is not a deal breaker for me. I will mostly be using this for my long conference calls that I found my old earbuds would stress out my ears and these will not do that to me. Another small complaint I have is it does take you some time to figure out where the touch controls actually are, but once you get used to it, it’s just fine. A two-year warranty rounds out my review of these and I do highly recommend these to try out and see for yourself.

Easy to set up & has what you need to get started

SimpliSafe really has an easy to install system that works based off your home Wi-Fi with a 4G LTE connection for a backup. The main unit also has a battery built in so if you lose power in your home, you will be covered with power and connection. The monthly service is currently $21.99 for the basic service, and I have seen the price increase over the years, but I find that to be a reasonable monthly fee. This kit comes with everything you need to start protecting your home, but you will want to expand it. Inside the box you will find the Base station, keypad, motion sensor, 4 window/entry sensors, and a yard sign. You can very easily expand your system, as I have, to include many more devices. I have purchased about 10 more entry sensors, another motion sensor, a glass breakage sensor, keypad, and some water sensors. So to put it another way, you can add much more to this system. They also have cameras that you can purchase to keep an eye on your home. However, the cameras require the more expensive plan to use them to their full potential, you can just lot into them and view the live view with the cheaper plan. If you have an alert from a motion or door sensor will alert the SimpliSafe staff to call you directly, so be sure to program their number in your phone, then you can either accept the alarm and they will call the police, or you can cancel using your safe word. Other alerts, say from your water sensor, will just send you a text or call you and let you know it has detected water. This has been very helpful on a few occasions when a bathroom toilet has overflown and I was able to stop it before any damage occurred. The SimpliSafe app is also a great tool. You can arm/disarm your system, see the current status, and set up authorized users among many other tools at your disposal. I really have been a fan of the system, and I have recommended it to my in-laws and my family and they have all purchased their own systems and they love it as well.

Powerful, large and in charge

As a gaming fan, I was super excited to get my hands on the ASUS ROG Strix G18, an 18" 2.5K 240Hz gaming laptop with Intel’s new (AeroLake) Core Ultra 9 HX, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 with 16GB of DDR7 RAM, and a large 2TB PCIe SSD. The Eclipse Gray color is sleek and modern looking, but subdued and, this almost goes without saying, is a powerhouse machine and a great desktop replacement that I was looking for. Traveling with this beast is possible but weighing in at over 8 lbs. with the power supply, well, there are better options for that need. Additionally, the ASUS ROG Strix G18 comes equipped with 32GB of DDR5 RAM, offering even faster performance and improved multitasking capabilities and easily handled whatever I threw at it. This model runs on Windows 11 home, which provides a smooth and modern user interface. However, I wish it came with Windows 11 Pro instead, as the professional version offers more features and customization options.
One of the first things that caught my eye was the amazing 2.5K (2560x1600) display with a 240Hz refresh rate that is G-SYNC compatible. We gamers know how important smooth and vibrant visuals are, and this laptop totally delivers some impressive eye candy indeed. The colors pop, and my games run smoothly, even in the most intense moments. The 18" anti-glare screen size is very large, bright (500 nits advertised) and very vibrant as I mentioned before.
The performance on the ROG Strix G18 is seriously impressive. The Intel Core Ultra 9 HX processor, paired with 32GB of DDR5 RAM, makes multitasking and running heavy applications a breeze. I can switch between gaming, streaming, and other tasks without any lag. The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 graphics card is top-notch, and when I play COD Black Ops 6, it can sustain a Frame Rate of over 120 and the graphics card temperature hangs around 71 degrees C, that is with the Graphics settings set to Ultra in the game and a resolution of 3440x1440. When I step that up to the highest setting to Extreme, it dips just a bit to around 110. Very smooth performance with out any issues or hiccups, and the GPU temperature stays in the acceptable range in my opinion. I tested with the 3D Mark Time spy and it scored a 20526 high score.
Storage is usually something I worry about, but the 2TB SSD has more than enough space for all my games, media, and files. The fast read and write speeds mean minimal loading times, so I can jump into my games quicker and stay productive with the tasks that I have to accomplish.
The laptop's Eclipse Gray finish looks sleek and professional when you turn off the RGB options using the “stealth mode option”, this will turn off the RGB Aura light bar which surrounds the base of the laptop that gives it the appearance of floating on your desk, and also the keyboard RGBs. The main chassis is mostly plastic, and the lid is made of aluminum and allows for a little flex, but despite that it still feels solid overall. Asus has come up with a great toolless access system to the underside of the laptop that allows for easy upgrades to the RAM and SSD among other components. You simply slide the rubberized lever and pull towards you to lift it off. Easy as can be!

The laptop also includes multiple ports, which is great for connecting all of my peripherals. It has two thunderbolt USB Type-C, 3 USB Type-A, HDMI 2.1, and a 2.5G Ethernet port, audio jack, and power input, giving me plenty of options for connecting my gaming accessories and other devices. The only drawback is that it doesn’t have a SD/MicroSD card slot built in, but that is not a deal breaker for me.
The keyboard is comfortable to type on, great tactile feedback and solid travel for the buttons and has customizable RGB backlighting, and the Q/W/E/R/A/S/D/F and spacebar keys are see-through which adds a cool gaming vibe. The massive trackpad is also a pleasure to use as well with a nice solid clicking feel.

Overall, the ASUS ROG Strix G18 is an incredible gaming laptop that offers top-notch performance, stunning visuals, and plenty of storage. It handles everything I throw at it with ease and provides an immersive gaming experience. If you're looking for a high-end gaming laptop that can tackle the latest games, replace your desktop, and more the ROG Strix G18 is definitely worth checking out and if you register your device with ASUS, you will get a complimentary year of accidental damage as well which is just icing on the cake.

Leveling up the S9000 Prestige

The Philps I9000 Prestige Ultra is one fancy shaver that has taken the Philips S9000 Prestige shaver that I have been using for the last few years (and I really love it) to the next level. It has a digital screen that you can cycle through to change shaver modes, and it also reminds you to run the shaver head under water to clean it, it shows the current battery level, about (of charges, runtime, # of shaves and firmware), turning on or off the Light Guidance, and travel lock activation. Speaking of the light guidance feature, this is a ring on the top of the shaver body that will change different colors depending on the amount of pressure (and can be set to include Motion as well) from the shaver head. Green is the optimal pressure, but it also illuminates yellow and blue. I haven’t been able to find the sweet spot in the limited amount of time that I have had it so far, but it is fun to try and keep it green. I do find that when the green light is on, the cut is still really good, and my skin is smooth as can be. Norelco really has a great shaver with this one and one of my favorite features of this model over my previous S9000 model is when it comes to clean it, I can now just press the button on the head to pop up the blades from the bottom and is flips up on a hinge, my previous model I had to pull the shaver blades off by pulling on them. This also comes with a stand so you can display your shave with pride and also charge it at the same time if you need to, but after 8 shaves so far, the battery is at 88% and when I charged it initially from the box, it charged very quickly. However, here is my only main complaint about this, the charger seems to be unique to this model, whereas I have always been able to use my latest charger with all of my previous Norelco shavers. Also, you are only given a USB Type A charging cable and no power brick. This seems to be the way Philips/Norelco does things these days since even the toothbrushes come with a USB Type A cable now. Not a big deal but at this price point, they should have included a full charging option w/o you having to find one of your old phone chargers to use for this. I did find a way to scan the QR code in the blue shaver booklet and it leads you to a USB Adapter link where it seems to can order a Splashproof adapter for your device, but I was not able to complete the request so perhaps it will be a feature offered later on down the road. Registering this with Philips/Norelco will get you a 7-year warranty (according to their website) so be sure to do that so you can rest assured for the next 7 years and from my personal experience with this company, they are very good to work with on warranty issues.

Great Entry level smart thermostat option

I was looking for a newer replacement for my Ecobee 4 thermostat since I have been using it for the past 3 or 4 years. This thermostat still works perfectly, and I have zero complaints, and I have invested in 5 additional smart sensors to go with it. When I had the chance to check out Ecobee’s new Smart Thermostat Essential I was excited to give it a shot. The first thing I did was inquire if my existing smart sensors were compatible and I found that they were. However, I failed to do a full check of the features that my ecobee 4 had vs the new essential thermostat. I should have known by the lower cost that it would be missing something, and I found that it doesn’t have a speaker and Alexa smart assistant is not included either. I use this feature a lot on my Ecobee 4 so this was a deal breaker for me as I didn’t want to add an additional device in my kitchen. However, the higher priced ecobee thermostats now will have Alexa built in, so this is just a cost saving measure for those who don’t want or need a speaker and just need a smart thermostat, which this REALLY excels at. With that out of the way, I really love the ecobee brand of thermostats, they are very easy to set up, you can get a mounting kit to hide imperfections in your walls, the screen is clear and bright and will even dim when it doesn’t sense motion and then light up when it does. Setting temperature via the thermostat screen is simple and intuitive. The ecobee app is great and allows you to control it from anywhere when you connect it to the 2.6gHz wireless network in your home. You can easily set up schedules and incorporate the smart sensors (both 1st and 2nd generation) to help with temperature regulation in your home. There is also an ecobee website that you can log into with your account, and it will give you a very detailed look at your usage with graphs and charts. Although I wasn’t happy with the loss of the Alexa feature on this thermostat, it’s low cost and features are great for those who don’t require Alexa or speaker functions. I am confident that this is a good fit for those who are looking for an inexpensive option to enter the smart thermostat space and provides great value for your money with a very high-quality product.

Best portable battery I have used

This Insignia 30W 10k mAh charger is a nice little addition to my go bag that I keep in my car. I really like the small and light frame that it has, but it does feel well built as well. With these types of chargers, it’s always a challenge to find a cable to use to charge, but this unit has a USB Type C built right into it and I find that to be my favorite feature of this. The cable also doubles as a handle if you want it to be with the clever design of how it’s attached to the battery pack. I also appreciate the little status screen to see how much charge is left as a percentage and an estimated time of depletion or until charged. The Type C cable that is built in is bi-directional, so you can use it to charge up the battery as well. The battery pack has the ability to charge up my Galaxy S24 Ultra twice and the 30W of power lets my phone charge up fully in about an hour or so. This also works for most Apple devices and I use it for my Galaxy Watch Ultra in a pinch as well (Thanks to Samsung removing the ability to use my S24 Ultra as a wireless charger for this watch)

Chunky lid latch and well built

This is a very well built hard cooler and it was just what I was looking for to keep my drinks cold and one benefit of this cooler is the FrostVault dry zone that this has, it’s basically a storage area that is underneath the main ice storage and the coolness transfers down, but not the water itself. So gone are the days of having soggy cheese or meats, you can store them here instead. Ninja claims this will keep your items cold for days, but I only tested for 24 hours with 20 lbs. ice and 10 soda cans, and 10 small water bottles and I had very little ice melt over that day. I kept it in the house since it was warmer than outside during this time of year. I really like how well this is built. The walls are very thick, and the lid has a nice rubber seal around it. The latch for the lid is very large and chunky and you can even attach a lock to keep your items safe. The bottom dry zone has a latch with a bright orange section that shows that it is secure. The easy carry handles come in handy, and you and a friend can share the load easily or you can carry it yourself. I appreciate that the drain plug has a lanyard attached so you won’t lose the plug, and you can unscrew it a little bit to just get a trickle of water draining if you wish. I am looking forward to using this on my next adventure and with the 5-year warranty, it will be around for a long while.

34" of pure curved perfection

The LG UltraGear 34” OLED curved monitor has changed my thoughts on curved monitors and now I found that they are great for me to use, especially when it comes to gaming. This monitor features very high-end specs and performance numbers that you would expect from a gaming monitor and has taken my gaming PC set up to the next level for sure. The HDR true black 400 really makes the colors pop and look fantastic. The 240Hz anti-glare / low reflection OLED screen is curved in a way that it helps you feel like you are more immersed in the game as you play. The resolution is not 4k, but to be honest, I don’t need 4k currently, and the 3440x1440 (WQHD) looks great with this size of this monitor. The pixel count is great, but I do think if you go up to a larger size, you may notice the pixels more, but this 34” is perfect for this WQHD resolution. I am using this with my Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 powered laptop, and I am very happy with the results. The anti-glare coating does not cause any issues and helps with the normal glare of the lamp that is positioned behind me in my room. The monitor stand is hefty and holds this monitor very nicely, it is an L shaped metal and plastic mount that allows you to adjust the height, angle, and swivel it, and the design allows you to pretty much back this up right against a wall which is nice if you have a shallower desk. The connections on the monitor include all the options that you would need. 2 HDMI 2.1 ports, a DisplayPort 1.4, two USB type A ports and an upstream USB port as well, and finally a 3.5mm DTS Headphone:X compatible audio jack rounds out the ports. On the back of the monitor are LED lights that you can customize with different colors if you wish, they are off by default, but you can adjust in the general Settings of the monitor. Speaking of the settings, you access them by the joystick type button on the back of the monitor right in the middle. It took me a little bit of time to find it and it does take a little getting used to in order to turn off the monitor and navigate using this, but it is not that bad. Overall, this is one fantastic monitor that I am happy to be using and it is a bit on the pricey side of things, however, add the fact that you get a 2 year warranty that includes screen burn in and you have a great option to take your gaming sessions to the next level as well.

The Razer Wolverine V3 Pro Xbox controller has exceeded my expectations! The controller is packaged nicely and the storage case is a nice touch! Its compatible with my Xbox Series X (and S) and also my PC, Although admittedly I didn’t use it that much on my PC, I just tested for compatibility.
One of the first things I noticed was how well it fits in my hands. The build quality is impressive, giving it a premium feel that stands out from other controllers I’ve used. It feels sturdy and durable, which is a big plus for any gamer. There are plenty of buttons and they are customizable! This allows you to map the buttons to suit your play style and preferences. Each button feels premium in its travel and overall feel. I don’t foresee any problems with this holding up to some intense button mashing sessions that I frequently have. The wireless connection has been stable, and I have tested with walking away to my other rooms, which are about 30 feet away and had no issues with connectivity.

The wireless connection has been stable, and I have tested with walking away to my other rooms, which are about 30 feet away and had no issues with connectivity.

inexpensive price, great sound and features

Colorful, lightweight, stylish, and great sounding earbuds that will really impress at this price point. That is what I feel about these earbuds in one sentence. I love the color options; I have the blue ones and I enjoy having a different color than my other pairs of earbuds that I own. These are very inexpensive for what they are, and they certainly don’t feel like they are around $60 at all. They do have some impressive features that you can access using the Sony Sound Connect app such as setting up 360 spatial audio, custom EQ settings, finding lost earbuds, and much more. You don’t need to set up custom EQ settings to get good sound, these sound good right out of the box and they work well and I enjoy the mid to high frequency they produce. Connecting them to multiple devices at the same time also works well and you can seamlessly transition between two devices with the multipoint connection that these offer. Another welcome feature is the ambient sound that and it works pretty good and I have no complaints about this. The physical buttons on each earbud can be set to single, double, triple tap, and also long presses and continuous presses. You can set each up with different customizations to your liking in the app. The fitment of the earbuds is great, and you are provided with S, M, and L size silicon clear tips to select from. These do not have active Noise cancellation, and this helps provide the long life of 11 hours and I found that the outside sound is blocked pretty good without having an active NC feature. The pill shaped case also provides an additional 11 hours of battery life, and a quick 5-minute charge will give you an hour of life to keep the music going. And to add on about the case, its well-built and the hinge feels good. You are not given a USP Type C charging cable, but I have plenty of those lying around so I wasn’t worried, also Qi/wireless charging is not an option on the case. The earbuds also do not have wear detect sensors, but again, at this price point, I really don’t expect features such as that. Overall, these are great earbuds for the money and even offer some features the more expensive models offer.

It is set to a defult of 2 hours, but you can change it to up to 4 hours if you wish.

Why is it so expensive?
Price is all relative. I didn't find it to be that expensive. It has a great speaker and it simply works really good. Its priced $50 cheaper than the Echo and the speaker quality is as good if not better.

Yes, you need an ISP (Internet Service Provider), such as comcast cable, At&T uverse, etc.

We live in the country, and can only use satellite internet. It is not a real strong signal, and can be affected easily by weather. We also have a log home, which blocks the signal in certain areas of the house and porch. Would this help in our situation?
It won't help with your satellite signal, but the wifi signal in your house could potentially improved.
