An OK Dryer

I have now had my new Whirlpool dryer for six weeks, and it gets used probably twice a week.
I like the 7.0 CF size of the drum in this dryer. Especially the queen size sheets tumble more freely than they did in my former dryer with a smaller drum. Because the drum is white and the illumination is better than in the old dryer, it is easier to see inside -- especially to see dark socks.
For all the supposed benefits of the sensor determining when the clothes are dry, the dryer often overdries the clothes. After years of doing wash, I think I know approximately how long it takes to dry different kinds of items. I have been experimenting by setting a kitchen timer when I turn on the dryer, and then I check when the kitchen timer goes off. Generally the dryer is still on. Opening the door and feeling the hot items inside, I can tell they are dry, even though the timer on the dryer indicates the machine will run for another 10-12 minutes. I have called Whirlpool Customer Service to ask if I am following directions correctly, and I am. But the dryer usually runs longer than it needs to run.
If the dryer does operate for the full length of the cycle, there is a chime that sounds to indicate the machine is shutting off. The chime is useless. Its volume cannot be adjusted to a level making it audible two rooms away.
In order to open the dryer door, someone puts his fingertips behind a latch handle flush with the door and pulls forward. The angled space behind the handle is less than one inch deep, making a tight squeeze for a man with thick fingers or a woman with long fingernails. A protruding handle through which someone could fit two or three fingers and get a good grip would be far easier to operate.
Finally, shoppers who are considering this dryer should be aware that the top is not horizontal, but slopes forward. Where the rear of the top meets the control panel, it is an inch and a quarter higher than at the front edge. The result is that anything smooth and lightweight which is set down on the top can slide forward and drop to the floor, including freshly folded laundry items.
I question how well some features of this model dryer were thought through before the appliance was put on the market.
