Someone mentioned a proprietary cable adding a HD. Is this the SATA cable from the drive to the motherboard, or power supply cable. Most power supplies have extra connectors for accessories?

Adding an additional Hard Drive
Reviewed responses and opened up the tower. Yes there is an internal power supply and you will have to add a power cable (proprietary?). There is an additional 5.25 bay and an additional SATA connection on the motherboard to add another HD.
Now, where would I get the power cable that converts from HD to motherboard and is the power connection next to the SATA on the mother board? Apparently power supply runs through MB and need to connect to it?

You can use a spliter on the current hard drive. I would highly recommend getting a SSD as they are so much faster and you have less issues with crashes as there are no moving parts.

I bought a new laptop,no dail up modem,what do I need to get online..
It depends on what you are using for your internet service. Are you using cable, satellite, DSL or? Most new laptops are set up to use wireless internet through a high-speed internet provider and not dial-up as dial up is so so so so very very very sslloooowwww. Most digital media will not be properly usable on a dial-up service.

Microsoft Works error needs to be reloaded
The first time I tried Works 9 word processor and tried to use the spell check I got an errror message that it was defective and needed to be reloaded. I have no disc's but I made backups as instructed first thing. My question is, since the defect appeared the very first time I used it, wouldn't the backup be defective too?
That could be the case so I would recommend going to Microsofts website and register your product. After you do this get online with a tech and have them troubleshoot your install for the issues as it could be the program or a hardware incompatibility.

Most any laptop can do what you need, the biggest determiner to performance is your budget. A decent laptop should be between 600.00-900.00 and I would suggest a chip that is I5 or equivalent and up with a non-dedicated graphics card so you get better video and rendering of your work.

There is no way for someone to give you an answer to this question as stock is always changing as well as models almost every month. Just go find one that meets your needs at a price you are comfortable with when you are ready to make your purchase.

If you have ok credit BestBuy will either give you an in store only card to use or if you have better credit you will get a BestBuy credit card. When you are approved you will be able to take advantage of whatever financing promo is going on at the time, usually 18mo no interest if paid in full before the 18mo is up.

What is the easiest way to get Windows XP installed on a new Dell Inspiron 15(1545) laptop?
You will need to find an old install disc for windows XP that has an unused install code. Then if your laptop has a cd drive put it in the drive and install from there. The other option is to go online to Microsofts website and purchase the outdated operating system and follow their instructions for installing it.
