Incredible Suction Power and Great Accessories
on March 5, 2024
Posted by: k1zit
If I was rating this LG CordZero Stick Vacuum solely on performance, it would get a perfect 5 star rating. This is by far the most powerful stick vac I've ever used. After turning it on for the first time and feeling it's power, I had to check LG's website to see what the suction power rating was. According to LG's website, this LG stick vac produces a whopping suction power of 265 air watts!! That is certainly amongst the strongest suction power available on the market (if not the strongest). When you power on this CordZero stick vac, it immediately starts moving forward on it's own thanks to that powerful suction (and this is just on the medium setting). It almost feels as if the stick vac is providing some type of glided assist. The higher performance setting, "Turbo mode", provides an insane level of suction. I'm coming from last year's LG CordZero stick vac which had 210 air watts of suction power and the added power on this 2024 model is significantly noticeable. It left my carpets spotless! I had to do very few passes in order to pick up all the debris. There's also been a few other notable improvements to this new model. One of those is that LG has now added wheel casters on the main Dual Floor Max nozzle attachment. This makes it significantly easier to push the stick vac around heavily carpeted areas. This will be truly appreciated by people with a lot of carpet in their home. For me, this was a game changer coming from last year's model which did not include any wheel casters and was therefore a bit more unruly to push around. Another improvement that I love is the LED strip that LG added to the front of the main Dual Floor Max nozzle. There are several nooks and crannies around my home that are dimly lit due to the light not reaching far enough to these areas. Having illumination at the front of the stick vac is a much welcomed feature! I'm able to ensure now that any and all debris has been picked up. LG also improved the Kompressor lever. On last year's model, I would occasionally have an issue with clumps of dust getting behind the Kompressor lever when using it to compact the dust. I've been using this new LG CordZero stick vac over the past week and I've yet to get any dust caught behind the lever or dust bin.
The other highlights of this CordZero stick vac system is the cleaning tower and it's attachments. I'm glad that LG didn't change much in terms of the cleaning tower as it already had a near perfect design. The tower is purposefully designed to hold all of the included attachments, it has a spare charging compartment for the spare battery, it makes emptying the dust bin super easy, and changing the dust bin bag is quick and simple. The cleaning tower gives you an option of either setting the dustbin clean cycle to "auto" (whenever you dock the vacuum) or you can set it to "manual" so that you have to press the "start/stop" button whenever you want to empty the dust bin. Replacing the dust bag is as easy as accessing the dust bag door and pulling on the dust bag lever to take out the bag. The top of the bag ingeniously auto-seals to prevent dust from spilling out. Simply grab another dust bag, align the little rail tabs, and insert. Done!
LG also packed a lot of value with the included accessories & attachments. This CordZero system includes 2 lithium batteries, the main Dual Floor Max nozzle, a Power Mop Pro Nozzle, motorized Pet nozzle, crevice tool, 2-in-1 combination tool (crevice/brush mode), an extra pre-filter, extra mod pads, and extra dust bags. The Power Mop Pro Nozzle is one of the best attachments in this CordZero system. All you have to do is open the water inlet, fill it with water (add some cleaning solution if desired), then attach the mop pads to the velcro strips on the bottom of the attachment. Once powered on, you simply press the "Spray" button to dispense the solution and begin mopping. There's a decent amount of scrub power with this attachment and the mop pads did a great job of removing some sticky dried sauce spills on my kitchen floors along with some other hard to remove grime. I was very pleased with the final cleaning results on my hard floor areas. The crevice tool is also a must have for me as it makes getting in between tight corners and gaps a breeze. I use this tool practically every time I vacuum now. Lastly, the LG thin Q app is yet another feature that I found practical for the future use of this product. While my experience with the cleaning performance was flawless, I love that the thin Q app receives telemetry data from the vacuum and reports on its current status in case any issues are detected. My favorite section of the app is the "Smart Diagnosis" feature. If you ever encounter any clogs, obstructions, or any mechanical issues with internal components, this is a handy feature that you can use to see what may have gone wrong. I love that there's also a "product manual" button which allows you instantly access the original product manual if you've lost the hard copy or don't feel like digging it up.
As you can tell by now, I'm a massive fan of this new LG CordZero stick vac system. It actually makes me look forward to vacuuming. So why didn't I give a full 5 star review? While this new 2024 model took several impressive steps forward to improve upon last year's model, there was one area where it took a couple steps backwards. Don't get me wrong, the overall build quality of this LG CordZero stick vac, tower, and attachments are very solidly built. However, I can tell that LG cut a couple of corners on the build quality for this year's release. See my attached picture of last year's product body as compared to this year's. On last year's model we got a gorgeous aluminum silver plated exhaust filter hard cover. This year's model has a bland black plastic hard cover that leaves much to be desired. You can also see the beautiful chrome accents on last year's model whereas they were removed from the product body this year. The grip handle is also better constructed on last year's model. Although it's equally as comfortable, the seams of where the rubber grip meets the handle is not as seamless as it was on last year's model. As a result, the rubber grip has a bit of side to side play. Not a huge deal, but we shouldn't be going backwards in build quality. The only other area of improvement I would like to see in the future is slightly longer battery life. Each battery lasted me 15 minutes on the medium setting and about 7 minutes on the Turbo setting. Both batteries provide me with just enough run time to thoroughly clean the upstairs and downstairs of my 1400 sq. ft townhome. On the flip side, it's hard to complain as I understand that intense suction power is going to demand a lot of battery power. And in almost every scenario, I will always take more suction power and performance over slightly more battery life.
Overall, I'm very impressed with this new LG CordZero Wet/Dry Stick Vacuum as a whole package. Not only does this stick vac provide incredible cleaning performance, but the cleaning tower and all of it's attachments are thoughtfully designed with a purpose in mind. It has made vacuuming and mopping around the house for me as convenient as possible. This is one those products that will take a menial task and actually make you look forward to it. If you're looking for a high performance wet/dry stick vac accompanied by fantastic accessories, I highly recommend you check this LG CordZero wet/dry stick vac.

This Is What Years of Refinement Looks Like!
on March 4, 2024
Posted by: k1zit
I've been using Alienware gaming laptops for several years now. After using this Alienware m16 R2 over the past week, I can tell that it is a result of years of product development and refinement. While Alienware laptops have always excelled in delivering top tier performance, I would once in a while find some areas for improvement in the build quality of certain components. In the past, this has included things like squeaky display lid hinges, subpar touchpads, and the overall build quality of the laptop. Alienware must have been listening to community feedback as this new Alienware m16 R2 is the most premium gaming laptop that they've delivered to date. They've also made some other improvements that I'll cover in this review.
In terms of design and construction, Alienware nailed it. I'm a huge fan of the minimalist and sleek design of this laptop along with the gorgeous dark metallic moon colorway. The only hints of branding that you see on the outer shell of the laptop is the usual Alienware alien head logo and an etched "16" on the outer lid (denoting the size of the display). When closed, the laptop is less than an inch in height which is impressive considering that this laptop has a built in ethernet adapter. The entire outer display lid is made from a very premium aluminum. The rest of the laptop shell is constructed from a mix of high quality grade feeling plastics and aluminum parts. The entire laptop has some heft to it and feels top notch. The hinge action when opening the laptop lid is buttery smooth. The individual keys on the keyboard feel substantial and premium. The touchpad is by far the most premium touchpad I've experienced on any Alienware laptop in the past. I'm also a huge fan of the placement of the I/O ports. I love that the AC power input is located on the rear of the laptop. This provided me with an unobstructed gaming experience whenever using it. On the left side of the laptop there's a multi-gigabit ethernet adapter with a 3.5mm headphone jack. On the right side there's two USB-A 3.2 ports with a micro SD card slot. And finally, on the rear of the laptop, you have the AC power input, a 2.1 HDMI output, a thunderbolt 4 output, and a USB-C display port output. I also love that the AC power brick is finally a compact size! Gone are the days of carrying around a massive power brick for you gaming laptop.
The Intel 16 core Ultra 7 155H CPU combined with the RTX 4070 GPU makes for some monster performance on this m16 R2 laptop. I feel that this CPU and GPU is the perfect combination to run games at the intended resolution of 2560x1600. It also houses 16GB of fast DDR5 5600 RAM (2x 2800Mhz). It goes without saying that this laptop is a multi-tasking powerhouse. I tested running an emulated virtual environment (i.e. EVE-NG) and deployed various network and security appliances to tax the CPU and memory. It ran multiple nodes without a hitch. I tested opening several chrome tabs while running several music streaming apps, video streaming apps, and even ran a game in the background with all of this going on. The experience was flawless. Not only was I absolutely floored by how smooth my games ran at 1600P on this laptop, but I was equally impressed at how fine tuned Alienware's thermal performance has become. This is an area that I've noticed Alienware keeps slightly improving upon with each major iteration of their gaming laptops. What really stood out on this laptop is how cool the entire surface area around the keyboard felt. In the past, the surface area around the keyboard (including the keyboard itself) usually tended to get pretty warm. On this m16 R2, the entire surface area, including the keyboard, felt cool and unaffected by whatever game I was running. One important thing to note is that in order to optimize the performance, the AC power adapter should be plugged in when gaming. I noticed that when the power brick gets disconnected, the performance is reduced due to no longer having the same level of power delivery available to the GPU. This results in a lower GPU core clock and thus a lower frame rate. I typically noticed about a ~20 FPS loss when it wasn't connected to the power adapter. I've included the benchmarks below for some of the games I tested.
***All tests performed were with laptop plugged into AC power which provides higher performance due to the added power delivery to the graphics card***

I didn't think that I would really care for the Alienware command center software but it actually turned out to be super useful. For starters, I love that it automatically applies the "Performance" preset every time you launch a game. This ensures that you can squeeze out as much performance as you can from the included components. It also displays purposeful metrics like the temps of your components and core clocks. It also allows you to fully customize the lighting accents around the touchpad, the alien head logos, as well as individually changing the RGB lighting of each individual key on the keyboard. While the built-in speakers aren't going to vibrate any windows, they sound great for built-ins! There was no distortion even at max volume. It also gets decently loud. Another key feature I was impressed with was the display. 2560x1600 resolution provides a perfectly balanced pixel density to performance ratio to pair with an RTX 4070. The 240Hz display with GSYNC provided an incredibly smooth experience either when gaming or just casually navigating around on my desktop screen. While Alienware doesn't list the display's panel technology, to me the beautiful color reproduction and white uniformity is on par with an IPS panel. While I do wish that it was capable of producing slightly more than 300 nits of peak brightness, it still produces a pretty bright and vibrant picture.
Overall, this is my favorite gaming laptop that Alienware has delivered to date. The performance is impressive, it has top notch build quality, it has very good thermal performance, and it does all of this in a sleek package. If you're looking for a high performance gaming laptop and/or a productivity power house with a sleek package to boot, look no further!

Get Ready for Indoor Smoked Goodness!!
on January 2, 2024
Posted by: k1zit
Where has this been all my life? I've been having a blast smoking all kinds of foods indoors with this GE Profile Indoor Smoker. To provide a bit of context, this appliance was originally kicked off by the talented FirstBuild team and was originally dubbed the "Arden Indoor Smoker". After doing some research, it became clear that the team kept a very close relationship with the BBQ'ing community (even bringing in BBQ experts) in order to keep improving the product. I believe this is an important element to highlight as it truly speaks to the type of effort that went into creating this five star product. It appears as though GE saw the potential of the product and brought it under their "Profile" line of appliances. So now we get the same great product, but with the confidence of GE standing behind it. After using this GE Profile Indoor Smoker for the last week and a half, the efforts of all involved truly paid off. I've smoked the tastiest rack of lamb I've ever had, a scrumptious smoked bourbon maple chicken (whole), a very juicy brisket with some gorgeous bark, and a few other foods like salmon and chicken thighs.
In terms of construction and design, this GE Profile smoker receives top marks. It has a very modern and sleek design that will look stylish on any countertop. The unit is constructed mainly from metal, premium plastics, and glass. It feels extremely durable and sturdy. The large door handle on the cavity door is complimented by a prominent open and close action that feels very satisfying to operate. The buttons on the menu panel are very thoughtfully designed. They include buttons which turn on the light inside the cavity, clear the smoke if you need to access the food, and allow you to modify the various cook modes. I'm a huge fan of the large knob used to navigate the menus. It's easy to access preset cook modes for various foods, empty pellets, change smoke temps and levels, toggle auto warm on/off (including what temp you want to set warm for), and several other selections. Although there's several options in the menus, nothing ever felt overwhelming. Every selection is to the point and there isn't any clutter of unnecessary or redundant options.
The appliance measures at 16.3H x 16.5W x 20.4D and weighs 55 LBS. GE recommends that you leave 4 inches of space on each side; especially on the top of the appliance. For those thinking of putting this underneath any kitchen cupboards, I highly urge that you ensure you have the required 4 inches of clearance between the top of the appliance and the bottom of any kitchen cupboards. The top of the appliance gets rather hot during the smoking process and you don't want it heating any surfaces right above it for several hours during a cook. The appliance is outfitted with 2 removeable rack supports which install on the sidewalls of the inner cavity. These rack supports hold upto 3 wire racks. At first, I was hoping the inner cavity was a bit bigger to accomodate more food. However, after using it to smoke various meats of various sizes, I think it's actually the perfect size. Any bigger and it would start to lose it's appeal as a "countertop appliance". I've been able to smoke a whole chicken on a single wire rack, 12 large chicken thighs using 3 wire racks (15 thighs if medium sized), 3 full size rack of lambs (1 rack on each wire rack), and a 10lb brisket! I did, however, have to cut the brisket in half and use two wire racks to support each slab of meat in order for it to fit. For most moderately sized families, this GE Profile indoor smoker will offer plenty of space.
Setup was extremely easy. The smoker came with a counter guard (protects your counter from spills), a drip pan, 2x side rack supports, 3x wire racks, temperature probe & holder, a metal wire tube brush for scraping/cleaning, a 1 lb premium blend pellet bag to get you started, operating manual, and a little bonus cookbook. All of the parts were extremely easy to clean with dish soap and water. I also cleaned the inside of the appliance with a damp towel and a bit of soap. At this point, all that was left was downloading the GE Smart HQ app on my phone, adding some pellets, and priming the auger. To sync the app with the appliance, I had to select the category of appliance in the app, hold the "Settings" button down on the appliance for 3 seconds, select my home Wi-Fi network, enter my Wi-Fi password, and alas, it successfully connected (if a new software update is available for the appliance, you will be prompted at this point). Next was adding pellets and getting the auger ready! For those new to smoking, the auger is simply the metal corkscrew inside the appliance which feeds pellets from the hopper (compartment which holds the pellets) to the burnpot which creates the delicious smoke for your foods. Once I filled the hopper nearly to the top with pellets (will hold upto 2 cups for a 4 hour smoke), I went into the settings to prime the auger. This process takes 1 minute and 30 seconds and helps ensure proper smoking performance and helps prepare the feed system. According to GE, you should prime the auger upon first use and also whenever the hopper has been completely emptied of pellets. The last thing to do was fill the waste bin with some water so that it puts out discarded pellets that are heated. This entire setup took me less than an hour. I do have to mention that prior to the setup, watching the "Getting Started" video on GE's YouTube channel, as well as watching some of the videos on FirstBuild's channel, really helped me get familiar with the appliance and its features. It also helped make setup an absolute breeze.
Once setup was completed, I smoked various foods throughout the week. I love the short yet tasty recipes that the included recipe book has. I actually used a couple of recipes from it and made the smoked bourbon maple chicken as well as the smoked rack of lamb. They were some of the tastiest meats that have ever graced my palette. Although the GE Profile smoker comes with the starter 1 lb bag of premium blend pellets, I purchased a variety pack (from Kona) of 8 x 1 lb bags of various flavors (e.g. apple, hickory, oak, mesquite, cherry) as I wanted to experiment with different flavors. The cooking modes are pretty straight forward. Under the "Customize" option, you can select for the appliance to smoke your meats until it reaches a desired temperature target or you can select a desired cook time. You can also do a mix of both where you select a certain cook time and monitor the temperature using the included temperature probe. The best part is that you can monitor the temp right on the Smart HQ app while you're away from the smoker. You'll also need to select the temperature at which you want to smoke your food (can do a maximum smoking temp of 300F). The included smoking presets are "Chicken", "Brisket", "Pork Butt", "Pork Ribs", "Wings", and "Salmon". While these provide a great "set and forget" option, these presets are also fully customizeable. You can increase or decrease the temp target, cook time, smoker temp, and smoke level. The appliance will remember these settings next time you select the preset again.
The smoking performance was very impressive and was almost a flawless experience. Getting my food in and out of the smoker with the various wire racks, which accomodates different height setups, was a pleasure. The only thing that I'm not a huge fan of is the way the temperature probe attaches into the appliance during a cook. I'll preface this by saying that this is really only an issue if you want to preheat the appliance first (which I almost always want to do) so that it reaches it's smoker temp prior to putting the food in. The male end of the temperature probe attaches into what appears to be a 1/4 inch female input jack. The issue is that there's a small metal door that covers this input jack. Once you've preheated the smoker and you've put your food in, you need to open that little metal cover (see picture) in order to insert the temperature probe. However, it will of course be hot to the touch. I usually have to use a fork to pry it open while I insert the probe. Not a huge deal, but I think the temperature probe aspect of the appliance could use a bit of a design improvement. However, given how incredible this appliance has smoked my meats, and how thoughtful the rest of the design & features are, it didn't warrant docking a full star. The smoke elimination technology is also a pretty incredible feat. I have a large air purifier in my living room that has an LED read-out of the air quality. During my smoke sessions, it only elevated ever so slightly due to the wonderful smell of the smoke (but no actual smoke was released into my home). My air purifier actually detects much worse air quality when I cook with my air fryer or on my cast iron skillet. The only other minor caveat is when you'll want to periodically open the door during a cook to maybe baste or glaze the meat. Everytime you plan on opening the door, you'll want to clear the smoke from the inner cavity by selecting the "Clear Smoke" button. This process takes about 10 minutes to fully clear the smoke. You can probably see by now that if you're basting or glazing every 15-20 minutes, this can become a bit of a timing game as you'll need to clear the smoke 10 minutes prior to opening the door everytime.
Overall, I'm extremely impressed by the GE Profile Indoor Smoker. By no means is this a direct replacement for a proper outdoor offset smoker, but for an indoor countertop appliance, I'm amazed. This is the perfect appliance for those foodies who either live in an apartment, don't have access to a backyard, or simply just want the convenience to smoke indoors during those rainy or freezing cold days (or scorching hot days too!). If you're someone who either loves to BBQ, are new to smoking, or perhaps just wants the convenience of smoking indoors, I highly recommend this smoker!

A Phenomenal UST Projector With One Major Caveat
on November 11, 2023
Posted by: k1zit
The Epson EpiqVision Ultra LS650 has been my first foray into laser UST projectors. Until now, my go to for all of my home cinema needs has been OLED, quantum dot ULED, and Mini-LED displays. I've typically always avoided projectors because of the amount of space that standard throw projectors take, the added cost of companion projector screens, and the lack of brightness and contrast leading to dark images looking washed out. To say that home projectors have come a long way is an understatement. The level of excitement and enjoyment that I got out of watching my favorite movies and TV shows on this LS650 was comparable to the first time I upgraded from stereo TV speakers to an enthusiast grade 5.1 home theatre setup about 20 years ago. Watching some of my favorite childhood movies, like the Star Wars prequels, brought back a rush of nostalgia and made me feel like I was in theaters again watching them for the first time. I can't explain the giddiness that this experience is likely to cause, but it's something that has to be experienced in person. Also, going from my 75 inch TV to a 120-inch image was a much bigger difference than I anticipated. Just think of the difference from a 55" to a 65" inch TV. Or a "65 to a 75" TV. Those 10 inches make a significant difference. In my case, adding another 50 inches of screen real estate created such a cinematic experience, that it had me revisiting so many of my favorite movies.
For starters, the construction of the Epson EpiqVision Ultra LS650 feels extremely well built. The unit is mostly constructed of high grade plastics. A sleek silver metal grille conceals the integrated 2.1 virtual surround speakers included by Yamaha. Although the projector unit feels very premium, it only weighs about 16 lbs. This makes it a breeze to move the unit to various locations around the house. Once it was situated on my TV stand, setup took less than 10 minutes. Epson recommends setting the front of the projector about 32 inches from the wall for a 120-inch image and about 27 inches for a 100-inch image. The image is re-sizeable. By using the resize button right on the remote control, you can re-size from a 60" to 120" image to accommodate various setups and room sizes. Since I wanted to experience this in all of it's glory, I had to go for the 120-inch image. If you plan on utilizing the full 120-inch screen, I would highly recommend measuring about 32 inches from the wall so you have an idea of how far out the very front of the projector will sit. As soon as I powered on the projector, I was prompted to pair the included remote via bluetooth which was quick and easy. I was then prompted to connect to my home Wi-Fi SSID and sign into my google account. I was finally greeted with a familiar home screen and my favorite TV UI; Android TV OS.
The Android TV OS on this unit is something that I wanted to make sure I covered because it's where the major caveat comes in for me. Netflix does not provide native app support on the Android TV OS of Epson's line of streaming capable projectors. I was scratching my head at first when I couldn't figure out why the Netflix app wouldn't come up when I searched for it on the Google Play store. I also couldn't cast Netflix content via my Samsung S22 Ultra to the projector. I did reach out to Epson to confirm that native Netflix app support is not supported and that there does seem to be a different licensing agreement between Google and Netflix which limits the Netflix app support in some Android TV devices OSs. This is rather unfortunate as I'm used to having built in Netflix app support on all of my other Android TV OS devices at home with no issues. The good news though is that you can connect other sources via HDMI, such as a PS5 in my case, and run Netflix on that source. If you're a big Netflix fan like me, it's important to keep in mind that you'll need to toggle between sources whenever you want to launch Netflix. All other apps that I used natively on the Android TV OS such as Disney+, Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, Hulu, and Bally Sports worked flawlessly without any issues.
In terms of the visual fidelity and experience, this is one that has to be experienced in person. I played various 4k content from various apps on Android TV, PS5, and a high end 4k Blu-ray player (Panasonic DP-UB820-K). Watching classic titles like Avatar, Return of the Jedi, The Dark Knight, Alien, etc., on a 120 inch screen with the cinematic digital projection look gave me goosebumps. I couldn't help but to feel like I had an empty movie theater to myself. I must preface this by saying that I'm playing the projection image directly onto my wall. Epson does make a SilverFlex 120" super mega projection screen that can be accompanied with this projector for an additional cost. I can only imagine how amazing it would look on that screen as it already looks really good on my wall. Bear in mind that the texture of your wall may impact the way the image looks, so a projector screen is always the optimal way to go. Getting back to the picture quality at hand, the 4K HDR picture was crisp and clear with great contrast (has a rated dynamic contrast ration of over 2,500,000:1!). I must note that I did have to use the included focus lever (found on the right of the projector) to adjust the sharpness of the image as it was a bit blurry on startup. It was super easy to do and took less than 10 seconds. The whites and blacks that this projector is capable of producing were very respectable. The blacks are of course not as as inky or as deep as something like an OLED but that's the tradeoff when going with a projector. The colors look bright and vivid while not appearing oversaturated. Skin tones looked organic and accurately represented. One of my concerns when using this projector was that I was going to need a pitch black room in order to get a decent image (which of course poses concerns for day use). I'm happy to report that due to Epson's 3-chip 3LCD technology that is capable of delivering 3,600 lumens of color and white brightness, this projector can be used even in brightly lit rooms. However, during my testing, contrast looked superior in a fully dark environment. If you're planning on getting this, I do highly recommend a fully dark room for the best picture and experience possible. Playing games on my PS5 was another fantastic experience. Although I couldn't find any specs regarding the input lag, I could tell it was more than acceptable. Fighting bosses on Elden ring requires extremely tight timing and I had zero issues slicing through enemies with my uchigatana and moonveil. Sporting events are also taken to a whole other level with this projector. If you're a sports fan, you're in for a treat!
There are a few things that I feel are important to mention as they could be viewed as cons for some people. The fan noise on this LS650 does tend to get a bit loud if you are listening to the volume at lower levels. Because I was usually either blasting the audio through my Sennheiser AMBEO Soundbar Plus or listening though Hi-Fi headphones, this was never an issue for me. This is something to keep in mind though for low volume listeners. Another potential con I wanted to mention is the slight shadow or halo effect that you'll sometimes see on the edges of the screen. I believe that this is just due to the nature of ultra short throw projectors and the angle and short distance that they project at which causes a bit of shadow on the edges. Wasn't a big deal for me but something to note for those who expect to have perfect and seamless edges. Lastly, if you're using a premium projector of this caliber, I think it's reasonable to assume that you probably already have your home theater audio bases covered. If you don't, the built-in 2.1 Yamaha DSP audio features two full range 5W speakers and one 10W subwoofer for a total of a 20W output. To be honest, it doesn't sound too bad for such small drivers. At moderate volumes, dialogue sounds clear and there is a bit of boominess on the bass. However, at higher volumes, the sound just doesn't match the grandiose scale of the image. I highly recommend investing in a proper home audio theater system to pair with this projector to get the most out of your home theater experience.
Overall, this is one of the most exciting entertainment products that I have used in a long time. The phenomenal image quality combined with the 120" inch screen created the most immersive cinematic experience I've ever had right at home. I also like that I have the option of adding Epson's 120" inch SilverFlex rejecting super mega screen if I want to take this already glorious experience to the next level. The minor drawbacks are something to be considered though. If you're someone who likes to watch their content at lower volumes, you'll want to take the fan noise into consideration. If you're a Netflix buff, you may want to ensure that you have another HDMI source that can natively run the Netflix app. If you're someone who's serious about their movies and TV shows, and you want to bring the cinematic feel of a movie theater straight to you living room, you've gotta check out this Epson LS650 ultra short throw projector!

The Ultimate Health Station for Home Use
on October 20, 2023
Posted by: k1zit
This has gotta be one of the most comprehensive health tools that has become available for the consumer market in recent times. This body scan is so much more than just a scale that takes your weight measurement and calculates your body mass index. At first, I was a bit skeptical of all of the metrics that Withings claimed they'd be able to measure with this Body Scan scale. However, after trying it for myself and also researching the great lengths that Withings went through to properly calculate these metrics, this is a health tool that I plan on incorporating into my daily or weekly routine (hopefully for the rest of my life so long as Withings keeps making products like this!). If you live an active lifestyle or whether you're just concerned about your well-being and overall health, this could be a very useful tool in assessing some of your critical health metrics from the comfort of your home.
In terms of the setup, it was very straightforward. All I had to do was download and open the Withings app, hold down the button on the top left of the scale to turn it on, and then use the key code displayed on the scale to pair it to my phone via Bluetooth. The scale immediately performed the latest firmware update to ensure it's features were up-to-date. Before getting certain telemetry results (e.g. vascular age and total segmental body composition), the scale requires that you weigh yourself at least 5 times so that it may accurately assess and produce these measurements. Weighing yourself is easy and takes about 50 seconds to a minute to do a "full scan" of all of the various metrics. You simply grab the retractable handle, place your thumbs on the electrodes, and then place your feet in the center of the stripes (electrodes for your feet). Within the Withings app, you can customize which metrics the scale will test for which can either minimize or lengthen each weigh-in session.
The amount of useful data that become available on the Withings app after a few weigh-ins was incredibly impressive. One of my favorite metrics is the "segmental body composition". Not only does it show you how many lbs. make up both your muscle and fat, but it also produces a 3D body render that shows your average fat & muscle mass percentage on your arms, legs, and torso. You're able to click on these areas of the 3D rendered body and see how you rank or compare to other Withings users of similar age and height. When looking at my body composition graph, I was able to see the progression of my muscle, fat, and bone mass. These results are available for the week, month, quarter, and year. I love having the ability to see if I'm gaining fat and losing muscle (or vice versa) along with the historical trajectory of when these changes occurred. On top of this, you also get your visceral fat index, your lean mass levels, and your water mass. The visceral fat index is a metric of keen interest to me since it helps gauge the healthy levels of the fat behind my abdominal muscles. It is the fat that wraps around the major organs like the liver, kidney, and pancreas. This is the type of fat that is most linked to health issues so I like being able to keep a close eye on it. Fortunately, my readings came back as healthy but I'm ready to take on a more active and healthy lifestyle if I start seeing my levels trend upward. You can also pair your smart watch's native health app, Google Fit & Health Connect in my case, to track additional wellbeing metrics like steps and your sleep activity. This data can then be imported into the Withings app for a more holistic view of your health. When you pair this additional data with the Body Scan scale & Withings app, you get additional useful statistics like detecting signs of sleep apnea, the quality of your sleep, breathing disturbances, fitness levels, etc.
Some other metrics that I found to be really useful was my electrodermal activity, my vascular age, and my ECG results. The electrodermal activity (EDA) score that you receive is based on your nervous system's control of the sweat gland activity in your feet. By simulating the nerves to measure the sweat gland activity in your feet, Withings is able to produce a score based on how your nervous system responds. EDA will help track your average stress levels over time based on the intensity of happy or stressful emotions which will ultimately affect your sweat gland activity in your feet. Your vascular age is another useful metric if you're especially vigilant with your cardiovascular health. As I get older, this is becoming increasingly important to me. The vascular age is determined by measuring the "Pulse Wave Velocity" from the blood ejection in your heart to the blood flow in your feet. The score helps you get an idea of your artery health and evaluates an age for you (as compared to other Withings users of the same chronological age) based on how well those arteries are pumping. Once the Withings Body Scan scale was able to calculate my vascular age, thankfully it was stable and right on the dot with my expected age range. The ECG test on this scale is very impressive. It uses a 6-lead electrocardiogram that is FDA cleared for detecting signs of atrial fibrillation. When you activate this feature, you do have to consent to allow Withings to take this measurement. I was happy to know that my results came back as "Normal Sinus Rhythm" and it gave me a comprehensive graph of all of my readings. It also allowed me to instantly share the results as a PDF within the Withings app. I actually just got an ECG from my doctor a few months ago as part of a routine checkup and I was impressed to find out how similar the data collected by Withings was to the ECG done at my doctor's office. The presentation (graphs used) along with the results on the Withings app looked very similar to the paper print out of my ECG from my doctor's office.
And now to finally address the pink elephant in the room: How accurate is all of this data? Without having specific studies or sources that I can reference or cite, I can't say definitively. However, when researching how Withings tested the validity and accuracy of this data, I was pleased to discover that the Body Scan was designed in collaboration with health experts and doctors in order to assess the accuracy and usefulness of the data. Withings has validated metrics like the "Pulse Wave Velocity" by comparing the results to a sphygmomanometer, which has been the gold standard in measuring cardiovascular health for years. Also, the fact that they went through the arduous effort of seeking FDA approval for their ECG speaks volumes. As someone who has always been into fitness and in tune with their body most of their life, when I correlate my segmental body composition data to my actual body shape and mass in real life, it certainly seems pretty accurate. I think the important takeaway here is that this Body Scan scale can provide some serious biomarker data that can help build a baseline for your health metrics. When you see drastic changes in these metrics, it could be a good idea to consult your physician to make sure everything is in good working order.
Overall, I'm a massive fan of this super advanced Body Scan scale. It has allowed me to get a holistic view of my health while tracking productive or detrimental changes to my well-being. The scale has been extremely easy to use, Withings did a phenomenal job with the app by even including tutorials and explanations of what everything means, and the biomarker data that it produces is invaluable to my health. This is all at the comfort of my own home. The scale is also very well built with a long lasting lithium battery that is easily charged by a USB-C cable (Withings claims up to 1 year per charge!). If you're someone who wants to take a deep dive into the different factors that are affecting your body's health in both a positive or detrimental way, this could be a valuable tool to help you assess and reach your health goals.

An Unrivaled Home Wireless Experience!
on October 13, 2023
Posted by: k1zit
Throughout the years, I've used several different Wi-Fi home networks setups. I've used standard home Wi-Fi SoHo routers, Ubiquiti home Wi-Fi setups, and even a small business Cisco Meraki network setup. While they have all had their advantages and disadvantages when it came to ease of use, the level of configuration control over your network, the level of security they provided, etc., there was always one residential product that stood out to me when it particularly came to wireless performance; The Netgear Orbi Home Mesh WiFi system. From the first time that I tried Netgear's Orbi home WiFi mesh system when it debuted about 7 years ago, I knew it was something special. The wireless range of the Orbi satellites (due to the antennas they use), combined with the consistent wireless stability, left me very impressed. Since then, whenever my friends or family have asked me to recommend a home Wi-Fi system, it's always been the Netgear Orbi. I'm happy to report that the same level of Wi-Fi performance that left me extremely impressed back in 2016, has left me very impressed yet again with their latest implementation of a WiFi 7 home mesh system.
I think it's important to note that at the current moment, there are very few electronic end user devices in the US that actually support WiFi 7. This of course hasn't stopped manufacturers, like Netgear, from being able to adopt this early technology in their latest flagship home network devices. Netgear also has a great track record of periodic OTA firmware updates which is important because it will allow this product to evolve as WiFi 7 matures over the years. In terms of future proofing, I'm confident this product has me covered. While the current flagship smartphones and tablets in the US don't support WiFi 7, they are right around the corner. For example, the Samsung S24 Ultra, which is just months away, is expected to ship with WiFi 7. Even though the Iphone 15 Pro models don't support WiFi 7, they do support WiFi 6E which also yields a great wireless experience. I tested this Orbi 970 WiFi mesh system with an Android Samsung S22 Ultra (WiFi 6E capable), an iphone 14 pro (WiFi 6 capable), a Samsung S9 Ultra tablet (WiFi 6E capable), and various hardwired desktop PCs.
The setup on this Orbi system was very simple. It includes an Orbi router and two satellites. The router comes preconfigured with a WiFi SSID and password. I downloaded the Orbi app on my mobile device, as per the QR code instructions on the router, and simply followed the prompts. The connections are clearly labeled on the router ports. I just connected the ethernet cable from my ISP modem to the 10Gbps internet port on the Orbi router and connected the 2.5Gbps LAN ports to my hardwired computers. Yes, you read that correctly! The router comes with a 10G ethernet internet port, a 10G ethernet LAN port, and four 2.5Gbps LAN ports. The satellites have two 2.5 Gbps ethernet ports and one 10G ethernet LAN port. This is perfect if you host high performance devices like NAS storage or file servers with 10Gbps or 2.5Gbps NICs. Once the Orbi router detected the internet from my ISP modem, it prompted me to update the WiFi SSID and password to something of my liking. Once this was done, it was time to setup the satellites. I basically placed the satellites in different locations throughout my home. I tried keeping the router and modem in a central location in my home and placing the satellites in the two furthest reaches of my townhouse. Once the satellites were in place and powered up, I just held the "Sync" button and they paired with the router after a couple of minutes.
In terms of wireless performance, this Orbi 970 WiFi mesh system is incredible. For reference, I have a three story townhome that is about 2500-3000 sq feet which includes my garage and backyard patio. My office and bedroom are located on the third floor and my kitchen and living are on the second floor. I've always had a few dead spots in my kitchen and parts of my laundry room; the two areas where I usually like to consume content while reluctantly doing dishes and/or laundry. I've also occasionally noticed quality degradation when watching 4k content on my TV in the living room with my old WiFi setup. You would be able to tell the resolution scaling down from 4k to around 720p/1080p when the signal would become poor. I've used Wi-Fi scanning apps in those areas of my house before and usually get around -78dBm RSSI which is pretty terrible signal quality. I would get buffering quite often in these areas or WiFi disconnects. I was also on WiFi 5 on my older setup so I never achieved my full 500Mbps x 20 Mbps speeds from my ISP when on wireless. Since I now have the Orbi satellites near these areas of my home, and because my devices can now take advantage of WiFi 6E, my signal quality, wireless speeds, and stability, has drastically improved. No matter what area of my home I go to, including my garage and patio, I now usually get anywhere from -25 dBm to -65 dBm RSSI (i.e. Excellent signal quality). In any section of my home, I now also get my full speeds over wireless. In fact, because my ISP allows burstable speeds (depending on their network congestion), I now also get whatever extra burst is available on top of my full speeds (see screenshots). I've been doing a ton of 1440p streaming on my mobile devices, have been streaming a lot of 4k content on my smart TV, have been playing a lot of CS:GO (hardwired), and also tested downloading large files from SharePoint. Overall, the experience has been flawless. I've also been using a Wi-Fi scan app to test the roaming between satellites and whenever my devices roam from satellite to satellite, it's a seamless transition. No disruptions whatsoever.
Are there any cons to this Orbi 970 home WiFi mesh system? There are but I believe they're minor for the average home user that just wants the best wireless experience. If you're looking for extreme control and visibility of your network or want a robust set of firewall features, you won't find them here. While this Netgear Orbi does have a basic built-in firewall which blocks unwanted connections from the internet, has built-in DoS protection, and prevents intrusive port scans, there's not a lot of manual security options you can tinker with. It won't do things like Geo IP filtering or allow you to build QoS profiles. Netgear does try to push the "Netgear Armor" software, but that's more of an endpoint protection suite for your devices. The Orbi router does have a basic access control section to block or allow incoming connections from certain devices on your LAN though (sort of like parental control for your home network devices). It also allows you to do port forwarding, setup a guest wireless network, setup static routing, and setup VLANs for bridging (although, according to the manual, this is more so used for IPTV bridging with your ISP and will not actually allow you to do 802.1Q trunking on the LAN ports).
Overall, for the large majority of people (including myself), this Netgear Orbi 970 home WiFi mesh system will provide an unparalleled home network WiFi experience. Your wireless experience will of course be subject to the quality of the RF spectrum in your environment. If there is a lot of noise or congestion in the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz bands where you live, there isn't much you can do about that. However, products like this can help make a significant difference. This Netgear Orbi system will auto select the most optimum WiFi channel depending on the quality of your RF environment and will also utilize the 6Ghz band (when using a WiFi 6E capable device) which has much wider channels than 2.4/5Ghz bands. It's also a band that is barely used since there isnt a saturation of WiFi 6E devices yet. This Netgear Orbi 970 home WiFi mesh system has provided me with the best wireless experience at home that I've ever experienced so far. I would highly recommend this to anyone who has large living quarters that isn't currently getting the WiFi range and coverage they need or to someone who still hasn't made the switch to WiFi 6E yet and also wants to future proof themselves with WiFi 7.

A Mid-Tier Powerhouse!

**** NOTE: Make sure to install BT/Wi-Fi antenna for BT devices to function properly ****
I would give this ASUS G16CH gaming desktop 4.5 stars if I could. The reasons for not giving it a perfect score is probably the picky PC enthusiast in me speaking. I have been using this new G16CH gaming desktop from Asus for the past week now. I must say that for a gaming pre-built, this is an extremely solid and well built machine. Not only are the core components that Asus selected for this build of high quality, but Asus nailed it in the aesthetics department as well. The mid-tower case that was chosen has a sleek and refined look to it. Most of the case is constructed from a light premium plastic with the exception of the side glass panel and the side aluminum panel near the rear of the motherboard. The case also features a handy lever that can be pulled down to hold your gaming headset or neatly tucked back in when not in use. There's a convenient strap in the upper rear side of the case that can be used to carry the desktop; a neat little add-on typically only found on Asus cases. The RGB lighting accents are done tastefully and help accentuate it's sleek symmetrical look. I love the boomerang shaped RGB accent on the front of the case. Changing the RGB lighting is as easy as downloading the Asus ROG Armoury Crate software. However, I did wish that the front lighting of the case could be controlled independently of the RGB strip inside the case. Asus also did a great job with the cable management in the front and rear of the motherboard (see picture with the side panel off). I couldn't find any information on Asus's website regarding the PSU that is enclosed by the case's PSU shroud. After removing the side panel, I was able to confirm that it's a 750 watt 80 PLUS GOLD PSU manufactured by a company called "Great Wall". I had never heard of this company but after doing some research, it appears that they are a reputable OEM PSU supplier for other companies. Apparently they manufacture some of Corsair's branded products like their CX and TX-M lines of PSUs. Solid choice by Asus and more than enough power to run this machine.
In terms of performance, I've been very impressed with this mid-tier pre-built gaming PC. The Intel Core i7-13700K with its 16 cores and 24 threads combined with the RTX 4060 Ti was able to keep up with all of the latest games I threw at it. It did so with all settings on high or maxed out at 3440x1440 resolution. This is where I can't stress enough how well of a sweet spot the 1440p and 1080p resolutions are for this gaming PC. While the 4060 Ti paired with this i7 is certainly capable of running games at 4k, you'll likely be hitting the 25-40 FPS range which is not desirable for most. I paired this gaming PC with my Samsung G8 1440p OLED and it's a match made in heaven. All the games I ran such as Dead Island 2, Jedi Survivor, and Doom Eternal, ran at 65+ FPS @3440x1440 with all settings on high or maxed out. I could have also squeezed out much more performance by selecting medium or lower settings. Games that weren't as demanding, such as CS:GO and Overwatch 2, ran at 175+ FPS at 1440p. The Asus ROG liquid AIO cooler performed well in terms of thermal efficiency (it also looks beautiful!). In all of the games I ran (non-synthetic benchmarks), I never saw CPU temps exceed 65°C on any of the 16 cores. This was with an ambient room temp of 75°C. The ASUS cooler on the 4060Ti also performed phenomenal and I didn't see temps exceed 65°C on the GPU. The included 1 TB NVMe SSD is also a high performance drive. My load times were always blazing quick! I ran CrystalDiskInfo and it appears to be a Micron 2400 1TB NVMe M.2 so definitely a top quality choice by Asus. I've compiled some of my benchmark results below which include synthetic benchmarks, real world gaming performance metrics, and an SSD benchmark. I've also included some thermal metrics.

As you can see from the metrics above, this mid-tier pre-built gaming PC puts out some serious numbers. The only small caveat that I think is worth mentioning as it pertains to performance is that with textures fully maxed out at 1440p, the 8GB VRAM buffer on the 4060Ti gets close to it's limits. This should definitely not be a cause for concern but it's something to look out for in case you're someone who likes to run custom high res texture packs that are sometimes made available by the modding community on certain games. Multi-tasking was also a breeze on this gaming PC due to the 32GB of DDR4 3200 RAM. Looking at CPU-Z, these are a pair of 16GB SK Hynix memory modules. Again, thanks ASUS for the high quality component selections! I tested opening several google chrome tabs, running a video streaming service, playing music, opening MS office applications, all while browsing and doing various other tasks. The PC remained incredibly snappy and fluid with no signs of bottlenecks.
Despite all of it's positives. There are a few areas that I feel could use some improvement. For example, the 80mm rear exhaust fan produces a very low coil whine that can be heard when everything is silent. It sounds almost identical to the very low hum that refrigerator compressors make when you listen closely. It looks like a very generic 80mm fan and I wish Asus would have gone with a higher quality part here. The radiator fans are generally quiet but they too produce a very small amount of coil whine (can only be heard if it's extremely silent in the room). I wish that Asus would have gone with higher quality static pressure radiator fans that typically don't produce any type of coil whine. Another area of improvement would be adding some front intake fans to the case. Asus's webpage for this PC states that it is "airflow optimized" and even shows a graphic with air coming in through the front and bottom of the case and then exhausting through the rear and top. However, without front intake fans, we're not maximizing the amount of intake that could potentially be directed into the chassis. With that said though, even without front intake fans, my thermals during my testing were still very respectable as was seen in my benchmark results above. Another thing I'd like to point out is that there's a weird little glop of silver paint on my NVMe cover and screw (see picture). Not sure how that got on there but something to point out to QA/QC. Since this is only cosmetic, it's not a big deal for me. Lastly, I initially had some issues connecting my wireless Xbox controller via bluetooth to the PC. It turns out that it's because I didn't have the bluetooth/Wi-Fi antenna connected to the two screw-in connectors on the rear of the motherboard. This was entirely my fault but I would have thought that motherboard and case manufacturers would have figured out how to integrate the BT/Wi-Fi antenna into a cleaner design by now. A very minor gripe but something to look out for in case you're having Wi-Fi or BT issues.
Overall, this is a very solid mid-tier gaming PC that delivers a ton of performance for those that are looking to run their games in the 1440p or 1080p formats. For me, 1440p is still the sweet spot these days since I don't mind sacrificing a bit of pixel density for higher refresh rates for a more fluid gaming experience. This would also be a great build for a power user that not only games, but also does some content creation and editing. Although I did have some minor gripes with the exhaust and radiator fans being a tad noisy, the rest of the core components of this build are of high quality. The fans are also the least of my worries as they are are fairly inexpensive to swap out. For those that want to take the guess work out of building a custom PC or simply don't have the time to plan out a fully custom build, this Asus G16CH would be a fantastic choice!

Unrivaled ANC and Comfort!
on September 27, 2023
Posted by: k1zit
For as long as I've been traveling, my ANC headset manufacturer of choice has always been Bose. I've tried other active noise cancelling headphones in the past and they've never quite performed as well. Very few headsets have also been as comfortable; especially for prolonged flights. After using these new Bose QuietComfort headphones, I'm happy to report that Bose is still the king in these departments. As a long time fan of the QuietComfort series of headphones, I love that Bose hasn't deviated from their tried and true formula and has given us much of what we've come to expect while throwing in some minor upgrades. While these new QuietComfort headphones have become my number one choice for travel and commute, I still think that Bose has room for improvement.
Starting with the build quality, these new QuietComforts are mainly constructed with a premium plastic material but also house some aluminum components like the adjustable earcup sliders on the sides of the frame. The adjustable sliders have a sturdy ratcheting mechanism that allows the earcups to stay in place even when engaged in physical activity. I wouldn't take these running, but they did a good job staying in place during some heavy resistance training sessions. I love the choice of these lightweight materials by Bose as it makes these the perfect companions for long travel sessions. The memory foam lining on the underside of the frames along with the earcup cushions provide unrivaled comfort. I've had the pleasure of trying several comfortable headsets in the last couple of years but this new model of QuietComforts are in their own league. The leather cushions on the earcups are soft and malleable but have enough firmness to quickly return to their shape. They are also very breathable. I never found my ears getting sweaty or clammy during long listening sessions.
In terms of audio performance, these QuietComfort headphones provide a premium HiFi experience that you can enjoy for hours on end with virtually no head fatigue. These QuietComforts have a very open and somewhat airy soundstage, which is impressive considering these are closed back headphones. The mids and highs come across very clear and there is a decent amount of separation between them. Instruments are easily discernable and vocals also sound full and organic. While I've noticed that Bose did slightly improve upon the low frequency on these new QuietComforts from it's predecessors, I would have liked to have seen just a tad more bass whilst still retaining the rest of it's default soundstage. While you can download the "Bose Music" app and select the "Bass Boost" preset to increase the amount of bass, I noticed that this preset tended to muddle the mids and highs quite a bit. As someone who will be using these headphones a lot while watching movies and playing video games on my travels, the added bass while still retaining those beautiful mids and highs would have been much appreciated. Despite this minor gripe, movies and music of all genres still sounded great. The active noise cancelling remains extremely impressive as always. The Bose Music app now allows you to tune the level of ANC depending on your environment in case you have important things going on around you. Up until now, this is something that you haven't been able to do on prior QuietComfort series headphones.
When it came to the bluetooth performance, the QuietComforts performed well by providing a constant connection with minimal distortion within a range of about 30-35 feet. The QuietComfort headphones also support multi-point connection for up to two devices. Switching between bluetooth sources was seamless for me and I never ran into any issues. For the most seamless transitions, I recommend pausing the current source that you're using, and then pressing play on the source that you're switching to. This worked flawlessly for me every time. The one thing I would have liked for Bose to improve upon in this category is the bluetooth version. These QuietComforts are still using Bluetooth 5.1. I've noticed that other flagship competitor headphones are already utilizing bluetooth version 5.3. Bluetooth 5.3 takes advantage of neat features like reducing the device's power consumption by discarding repeated data packets or optimizing data transfers which reduces the chances of data being lost. Lastly, I would have liked to have seen higher bitrate codec support like aptX HD or LDAC. However, they seem to only support the standard AAC and SBC codecs.
Overall, these are great sounding headphones with some of the best ANC on the market. They're also the most comfortable headphones that I've used to date. These would make an excellent travel companion on long flights, subway/train commutes, loud airports, or virtually any environment where you want to tune out the world around you. I still think that Bose has some minor improvements to make in regards to including the latest bluetooth technology and codecs. I also would like to see the default soundstage tuned with a little more bass in the low end in future QuietComfort versions. Despite these minor gripes, these QuietComfort headphones are a solid offering for those looking for the best ANC experience along with comfort.

My New Favorite Premium Earbuds!
on September 6, 2023
Posted by: k1zit
I've been using the Technics AZ80s everyday now for the past week and a half. Out of all flagship earbuds I've owned in the past, these are by far the best sounding earbuds I've had the pleasure of using. However, do bear in mind that if you're looking for headphones that produce loads of maximum volume, these AZ80s are not it. While they produce a respectable level of volume, these earbuds are more geared toward providing a premium Hi-Res wireless audio experience. What you end up with is a very balanced and optimally tuned soundstage. Not only do these sound great, but they're also feature packed. They have some of the best ANC I've ever used, multi-point connectivity, great battery performance, support for SBC/AAC/LDAC codecs, IPX4 water resistant (for earphones, not the case), a plethora of earpiece sizes and shapes to find the right fit, and a supported wireless Qi charging case.
In terms of the audio performance, on the default EQ setting (i.e. "Direct"), you get a very wide and open soundstage. Vocals are incredibly clear and rich, treble & mids sound crisp, and the bass is perfectly balanced (punchy bass with a decent level of depth). While the default EQ preset is perfectly suitable for most music genres, the Technics "Audio Connect" application is a must download on Android or iOS due to the copious amounts of customization options available. I've used these earbuds extensively with my Samsung S22 Ultra. If you're on Android, then you're in for a special treat; LDAC enabled audio! In order to enable the LDAC codec I did have to enable LDAC in the Audio Connect app first. Only then was an LDAC toggle option available under my "Bluetooth connection settings". Music with LDAC enabled on my S22 Ultra plus the Technics AZ80s is a match made in heaven. The music genres I've listened to the most while using these AZ80s has been electronic/techno, country, hip hop, metal, classic rock, jazz, and classical. The EQ presets "bass+" and "super bass+" complemented the electronic/techno and hip hops genres perfectly. For classical, country, and jazz, I loved the "dynamic" and "treble+" presets. The result was a a very clear, clean, and open sound stage that really allowed me to discern the different instruments. Of course, you also have the option to create your own custom EQ presets. I'm a huge fan of "Multipoint" feature with these AZ80s. They allow you to have up to 3 bluetooth devices paired at the same time. As far as I know, these are the only earbuds on the market that allow for up to 3 devices. Do bear in mind, however, that having LDAC enabled only allows for up to 2 devices. Switching between multiple devices was flawless for me. I noticed that for the most seamless transition, it helped to pause or minimize whatever content I was listening to between switching over to another device.
The fit of the Technics AZ80s on my average sized ear canals are very snug and comfortable. In fact, these might be the most comfortable in-ear headphones I've used. I was pleasantly surprised as they are fairly large earbuds in comparison to some other earbuds on the market. I've taken these to the gym and have done resistance training, I've ran with them, and I've also rowed with them. I'm happy to report that these are great workout companions that shouldn't fall out of your ears so as long you choose the correct earpiece size. Also, since they're IPX4 certified, getting sweat on them wasn't a concern. Technics includes 7 different earpiece silicone sizes all the way from various extra small sizes all the way to extra large so that you find the most comfortable fit as well as the best seal for ANC. Speaking of ANC, it is bar none the best ANC I've experienced on any in-ear headphones. Not only did it do a fantastic job of drowning out all the background noise around me, but it allowed me to customize the level of ANC that I wanted applied to my surroundings via a slider wheel on the Audio Connect app. The same goes for the Ambient Sound settings which allows the earbuds to detect natural voices around you and emphasizes those sounds over your music. This is such a useful feature for me at work as I tend to work with earbuds on. This allows me to hear my co-workers if they're trying to get my attention which also beats having to pause the music or take my earbuds off.
These Technics AZ80s have proven to be the complete package for me. Not only are they the best sounding earbuds I've heard, but they come packed full of premium features that are useful for my everyday life such as ANC, multipoint, and their versatility in the gym. They also have a long battery life providing up to 7 hours of life (real world use for me with LDAC enabled and high volume was more like 5 to 5.5 hrs) plus 24 hours of backup battery with the charging case. The charging case is also Qi certified so it can be charged wirelessly! A 15 minute "quick charge" session also provides an additional 70 minutes of playback! If you're looking for a premium audio experience in a portable form factor, I highly recommend checking these out.

Samsung Knocks It Out of The Park!
on August 30, 2023
Posted by: k1zit
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra has made me fall in love with tablets all over again. Not only is it an absolute powerhouse with a gorgeous display, but it packs a ton of very useful features. It's also one of the most beautiful pieces of tech that I've had the opportunity to get my hands on lately. From a design and construction perspective, the S9 Ultra boasts a razer-thin chassis with beautifully chiseled edges. It houses a very sleek and premium aluminum frame and back that is very rigid with almost zero bend (even when applying a lot of pressure). The massive corning gorilla glass screen is a generous 14.6 inches with wafer thin bezels. The S-Pen neatly, and magnetically, nestles into a dedicated S-pen slot that's integrated into the back frame of the tablet. The entire package looks like a work of art.
I've used several tablets from both of the well known ecosystems and after using the S9 Ultra, in terms of the full package, I'm convinced that it's currently the best tablet on the market. The careful UI design that went into the S9's Android OS is simply on another level. For example, I love how Samsung has thoughtfully placed the navigation bar with the home, back, and recents shortcuts in a small footprint at the bottom right corner of the tablet. This makes it so that you can easily and effortlessly reach over as you're using the tablet. This seems like a small thing but it's a big deal in practice when using a screen of this size. I've also had a blast using the S-Pen on the S9 Ultra (I also like that the pen comes included and you don't have to buy it separately like with some other competitors). Since I already use an S22 Ultra as my primary phone, I'm happy to report that the S-Pen on the S9 Ultra brings all the same features we've come to know and love. Having the ability to instantly crop images or text using "Smart Select" or being able to instantly select an image to impose your own hand-written captions using "Screen Write" is something that has become part of my daily life. I think having these features on a tablet for productivity work is immensely valuable and has become a must for me at this point. Also, if you're already invested in the Android ecosystem, you're going to love some of the native features found on the S9 Ultra like "QuickShare". Quickshare allows you to seamlessly and instantly share images, videos, and files between your Samsung phone and the S9 Ultra. Another great feature is the "Call & text on other devices" option. This allows you to link the S9 ultra to your Samsung phone and allows you to send/receive calls and text messages directly from your tablet. However, this feature does not work with Verizon and AT&T phones which was a bit of a disappointment.
In terms of performance, the S9 Ultra with it's Qualcomm snapdragon 8 gen 2 processor has been flawless. The Qualcomm Adreno 740 GPU with ray tracing is also equally as impressive. I benchmarked it by running Wildlife on 3D Mark and it scored a whopping 14,656 with an average framerate of 87.76 (see screenshot). This is amongst the best scores that you can get on a flagship today. To test real-world performance, I fired up Alien Isolation and paired my PS5 dualsense controller via bluetooth to the S9 Ultra. The gaming experience was nothing short of amazing. Graphics looked stunning, there was no noticeable lag between the S9 ultra and my wireless dualsense controller, and the game ran at about 35-65 FPS with the highest graphical setting option selected. Considering that this is a very graphically demanding game, I was very happy with the performance. For more conventional tasks like browsing the internet, watching videos, listening to podcasts/music, etc., the S9 Ultra effortlessly devoured everything in it's path. Closing and opening applications is very snappy. Toggling between applications and navigating through different menus within the apps feels incredibly fluid thanks to the 120hz AMOLED 2X display. It's a bit difficult to describe but whenever I use the S9 Ultra, it's so fast and snappy that it almost feels as if it knows what you're going to do before you do it on the actual display. The touch registration on the display is just that fast.
The S9 Ultra has features that deservedly earn it the title of being Samsung's current flagship tablet. The display is by far my favorite part of the tablet. The 14.6 Dynamic AMOLED 2x 120 HZ truly is a display that must be experienced in person to truly appreciate it. It's the best display I've ever used on any mobile device. Being an AMOLED 2X with support for HDR 10 plus, you get true black levels that are deep and inky. Color accuracy has also been improved with the AMOLED 2X display over its predecessor whereby colors were a bit oversaturated. Colors are still vibrant and vivid but skin tones and warmer colors seem to be represented more accurately. The resolution is an extremely high 2960 x 1848 which makes 4k and QHD content look phenomenal. Images are crisp and crystal clear. I also love that unlike other flagship tablets currently on the market, videos take up the entire screen giving you an immersive experience. The sound on the S9 Ultra is also very impressive. The tablet comes with AKG tuned quad firing speakers with Dolby Atmos support. These things get loud! Not only that, but the highs and mids are very crisp with very minimal distortion. The low frequency has a bit of boominess to it without any distortion either. The only thing to watch out for is where you place your hands while holding the tablet. I have noticed that when I'm holding the tablet, my fingers will occasionally cover the speakers. When this happens the sound will distort due to your fingers trapping the sound. When I first noticed it, I thought it was maybe the volume level causing the distortion but then I quickly realized that it was due to my hands covering the speaker. If you notice any type of audio distortion, watch those fingers!
Overall, this is the best tablet I've ever used. Because of it's ability to function both as a productivity powerhouse and a top tier media content device, it will be accompanying me on all of my travel. I also haven't even mentioned how this S9 Ultra is IP68 certified (dust/water resistant), has an expandable microsd card slot, has a fantastic camera, and also has an incredible 11,200 mAh battery. I played a full hour long session of Alien Isolation and still had a whopping 87% of battery left! After my time using the S9 Ultra, I highly recommend picking up the smart cover accessory. Not only does it fit like a glove, but the built-in stand is really sturdy. The magnetic cover for the S-pen is also brilliant (see pictures). If you're looking for a high performance tablet with one of the best displays on the market, I highly urge you consider the S9 Ultra.

Listen to your favorite songs anywhere with these Bluetooth Audio Technica headphones. They fold inward, letting you conveniently store them when not in-use, and the fitted ear cups prevent outside noise from interfering with sound quality. These Audio Technica headphones run for up to 40 hours on a single charge and have 45mm large-aperture drivers for clear, powerful sound.

Can the 50XBT be charged using a wall adapter like an iPhone cube charger?

It sure can! You would simply need to connect the included USB cable to the wall charger and the other end (Micro-USB side) to the headphones. Just bear in mind that the cable that Audio Technica includes is extremely short!!! (1 ft) so you may want to purchase a longer one or use a longer one that you may already have at home.
