Great coffee maker, especially for strong coffee

My fiance and I purchased this coffee maker with the intentions of replacing an old drip coffee maker model that just stopped working one day. We were considering a Bunn coffee maker at first, simply because we wanted our coffee fast. We walked in the Best Buy and could not find a Bunn on the shelf, and the Ninja Coffee Bar just happened to be on sale. So we figured why not let's give it a try. The first pot of coffee we brewed was so incredibly strong that neither of us could tolerate it and we ended up dumping it down the drain. We actually had to experiment for a couple days, making several pots of coffee that we did not like. It turned out that in order to make the same type of coffee we were having with the old drip coffee maker, we had to use almost half the coffee grounds. Doing this allowed us to eliminate the bitterness, and we absolutely love the coffee it makes now!
My suggestion is to not use the permanent filter, go ahead and buy some paper cone filters instead. To each his own, & I know everyone will have their own individual tastes, but I found the paper filters helped eliminate a lot of the bitterness that we were finding.
Also the machine is very easy to clean. The basket comes out rather easy, and cleans up well. The water container I find pretty handy, it's pretty nice not having to fill the carafe with water and transporting it to the coffee maker. Also the electricity we save by not having the burner element running nonstop while the coffee maker is on is pretty nice as well. I find that as long as I leave a half a pot of coffee in the carafe when I go to work in the morning, it is still pretty warm when I get home almost 10 hours later. So there is no detriment to not having a burner on the machine. 2 hours after I brew, the coffee will still burn my tongue.
Overall it's a good buy, although you may have to experiment a little if you're used to a drip coffee maker. The flexibility of making espresso type drinks and multiple cup size options make this a great buy to replace an old drip style coffee maker.
