My Big Fat Greek Wedding: the little film that could. Everyone by now knows the story of this five-million-dollar film that went on to gross well over 200 million dollars. That being the case, why aren't we seeing a bigger release for this DVD? Not that it's a bad disc, it really isn't. It just seems there's so much more that could have been done for such a significant release. The image, which HBO has wisely included both 1.85:1 anamorphic and full-frame transfers, is a fairly solid presentation. Colors, while generally muted, come across nicely, while the darker scenes are dense and don't show any signs of breakdown. Skin tones are very warm, a real plus for this film. The sound, a 5.1 Dolby Digital track, is certainly adequate for this small romantic comedy. In other words, it's not going to test your sound system in any way. Still, the auditory elements are nicely translated to home video, with clear dialogue and a very pleasing quality. What is lacking with this title are a significant number of supplemental features. Other than some decent biographies of the cast is a commentary track from stars Nia Vardalos, John Corbett, and director Joel Zwick. This track is often "matter of fact," but has enough humor and anecdotes to keep it moving along. Vardalos and Zwick contribute more than Corbett, but each has plenty to say about their experiences. People tend to love or hate this film. Those that hate it will steer clear of it, while those that loved it will now have the ability to watch it over and over and over.
The film that shot Marisa Tomei to stardom comes to DVD in an excellent package. The disc boasts a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1. English and French soundtracks are rendered in Dolby Digital Surround. English and Spanish subtitles are also accessible. Supplemental features include a commentary by director Jonathan Lynn, theatrical trailers, and television spots. Fans of the film will be thrilled with the look and sound on the disc. Tomei's Academy Award-winning performance loses nothing on the small screen.
Along with 28 Days, the DVD of Notting Hill is one of the most satisfying and complete DVD packages for a romantic comedy. Starting with a widescreen, anamorphic transfer and Dolby Digital Surround and 5.1 Audio, the disc presents the film and its supplemental material in a lavish way that befits a Julia Roberts blockbuster. Extras like an entertaining commentary with director Roger Mitchell, producer Duncan Kenworthy, and writer Richard Curtis, production notes, and cast and crew biographies shed light on the making of the film and the people behind it, while the travel guide to the Notting Hill area, "Hugh Grant's Movie Tips" (which basically consists of Grant joking around with the crew, and the bookmarks that cue up the film's musical highlights capture Notting Hill's witty, romantic spirit and setting. Deleted scenes and the theatrical trailer round out this entertaining and substantial disc, which reaffirms that films other than special effects extravaganzas can make effective use of the format's extra features.

I'm really disturbed that this is recommended as a product to buy if you want to watch DVDs on a laptop. It's not plug and play and the CD included is useless because you have to buy/download drivers. It would be better to just hit yourself over the head with it in hopes of hallucinating the movie you are trying to watch. Worst product ever!!

I love this because of the way it protects my watch. Made it a bit too bulky for me, but not bad. Plus, i don't bump my watch so I didn't feel like I needed it. If you are rough with your watches, then it is a good buy.
