I do allot of design work with Adobe software and needed to look into a new device to replace my 2015 13 inch MacBook Pro with retina because the battery was shot from many hours of use and charge cycles.
The 13 inch MacBook Pro served me well but over the last couple years (and I still love the apple operating systems) but the screen size just didn't have the realestate I needed to really feel comfortable working in the programs I use without feeling like the screen was too congested— especially when trying to multitask or have open menus in adobe programs. Over the years my projects have also (on average) grown in scale and I had I got more into the illustration aspect of design and I really felt like I needed a bigger canvas to draw on without scrolling around so I could keep my pen strokes feeling natural and fluid but not lose detail.
After first buying a top of the line brand new 2017 15 inch MacBook Pro with touch bar And returning it because: (a.) I found the lack of ports and being forced to use USB-C far more annoying than I expected (b.) I found the physical keys for brightnesses, volume, etc. to be much more useful and reliable than the touch bar which in my opinion is not only gimmicky and useless but also makes tasks that were once simple, and immediate when using now absent physical keys MORE difficult. (c.) it has no pen, and no pen option. (d.) I felt it was overpriced (even for apple) (e.) the battery life was nowhere near what apple claimed. (f.) the unit was defective right out of the box- it had dead pixels on the screen, needed multiple restarts which stopped after a few updates, and after a week of use the screen started to display multiple lines and visual artifacts associated with the screen having a loose connection to the computers video output (I.e. it seemed poorly built and I would say even feels flimsy and breakable to me.
And this is coming from a long time apple user who currently has an iPhone 7, Apple Watch and IPad and prefers iOS/iPhone/iPad to Android, and MAC OS to windows.
It was time for me to move on because windows just offers a better value with way more options for a full portable computer (iPad is still cool but it has limited function) and if I was going to do windows then for me a pen tablet was mandatory to maximize it's usefulness.
So, I tried the surface book... which was better than the mac but still just as expensive and still has an awkward design and the screen is NOT 15" so it was just too small. Plus the units wierd hinge makes the it take up allot of space while being stored. The battery was also much worse than the MacBook Pro which was honestly very good for its size but not just not the best and certainly not what apple claims. Anyway, overall the Surface Book was just not worth the price mark up compared to other computers. Not to mention this surface book also had multiple dead pixels. So after I returned that I decided I would wait a while before I got a new computer... and then shortly after I had given-up I saw this baby! It seemed to have everything I was looking for! Designed like a new MacBook Pro SHOULD have been, 15" touch screen, dedicated graphics card, all the best storage, speed and specification featured in the Surface Book Pro and MacBook Pro combined (or better) but for half the price of either, better battery life, nicer looking than the surface book and as good looking as the MacBook Pro but more durable and sturdy feeling.
The pen that comes with this HP Spectre even uses the same N-trig technology as surfacebook made by the same company as the surface pen. It feels the same looks the same, and is the same size.
I know that people have complained about the pen that came with other models of the HP Spectre line but this model does not have that problem. I have personally drawn on both the surface book and on this HP for 10+ hours and there is no dectable difference in quality whatsoever.
This is a great computer it's not only the best but the best price and it even comes with Avery nice carrying sleeve which also holds the pen.
