So Far Great Washine Machine

Verified Purchase:Yes
We had a Maytag Bravos unit for several years. Had purchased it mostly due to it's NAME/Reputation for durability. Well it started acting up with the F1 errors....unable to communicate with the control sensor or such...found that this was a common error with this brand/model as well as Whirlpool...made by same company(Because they both took the same electronic control module)? Tried replacing the $120 control module myself which was posted as the most common problem/solution, but didn't work(got a refund), and wasn't going to invest in hundreds of $$ to try to get it repaired, so opted to replace it. After many reviews read, settled on the LG unit...partly because of it's Direct Drive washing drum, and also it's 10 Year warranty status, and that it wasn't a Maytag or Whirlpool brand. Installed it myself in the UPstairs washroom including LEVELING it, and put it to use that day. Others reported in their reviews that it didn't fill up with enough water...but I think they were used to the very old agitator types that were as tall as the wash drum, and needed lots of water to function. My old Maytag also had a LOAD weight/volume sensor and would only fill with enough water to just cover/submerge the clothes, so that the low profile agitator could work most effectively. I like the removable soap/softener trays for easier cleaning, but they get flushed with water during the cycle and so far are staying quite clean.
The Whites cycle is rather long, but designed to truly get them clean and white with bleach. Have also used the bedding cycle(tremendous capacity), and really like the speed and effectiveness of the Turbo Normal cycle, again it adjust the wash time with the weight/size of the load. Also like the NO SLAM lid feature, and it is rather quiet, not necessarily HUSH quiet, but it doesn't bother us watching TV in the next room with the doors open.
In some reviews I read folks talked about linting, but with the Maytag and this one, you need to wash similar types of clothing material together to reduce that occurrence, and we haven't had that problem with either unit, with self cleaning lint filters.
We've had it just a few months, so only time/years will tell whether this was the durable investment that I'm hoping it is compared to our previous ~7 year old Maytag unit. Hope this helps someone.
I would recommend this to a friend!

what is the difference in a washer with a agitator and one with out

This washer also has an agitator of sorts, the bottom of the tub has a separate textured circular plate, it has ridges and such and acts similar to an agitator. The washer uses less water, so this structure can create currents as it rotates back and forth similar to the old school 18" tall or so agitators, but it is gentler on clothes.

Does the edge of the washer lid show scratches and/or scratch easily?

We've had it for just a few months, but the lid is quite durable, has a stainless steel surface that is pretty strong, and washer body seems to be either enamel or powder coated=baked on plastic coating.

Can someone tell me how long (minutes) it takes for a regular cycle? I was reading the comments where someone mentioned over 2 hours.

The bright whites cycle is over an hour, but the normal cycle is less, and even less with TURBO mode, but it also depends on how many clothes, the unit measures/weighs what's in the tub and adjust the wash cycle accordingly, so less clothes, less time, more clothes, more time.
