why doesn't the hotwater selection put only hotwater in the washer.sometimes water feels cold

doing a wash earlier and was surprised when I selected hot wash that the water was cold! Checked hoses and inlet hotwater filter and all were ok. Is there a problem that it doesn't put only hot water in the washer? Washer is new,only one day old.
Because you washer isn't directly connected to your water heater so the first bit of water to come out is what is in the pipes between the washer and water heater
